We went to breakfast and they were very busy and under staffed as usual. We both ordered the same thing with an extra bisquit. We had to flag another server to get more tea. When our server brought the order 25 mins later, she forgot the extra bisquit. Fifteen mins later she brings it and a bowl of gravy. She said she was not going to charge us for it do to it being so long a wait. We got our check and sure enough she charged us. No only for the bisguit but the gravy we did not order. My usual order is a bacon and cheddar omelet and hash browns. Food usually comes out quick, which was a plus. The servers are always very friendly. However, the last time I visited, the hash browns were not fresh. It tasted like they were warmed over. There really aren't any other breakfast options in town. I've been here a few times and it is definitely hit or miss, just a few too many misses for me. read more

Our first experience here was not the best and why it has taken so long to update my review is something I can't answer. This place is just a good old fashioned local diner. We mostly come here for breakfast. I work third shift and it's nice to have a place that you can get pretty much whatever you want off of the menu because I don't always want breakfast when I get off of work. Took a ride on the Harley down here from Phoenix one morning for their breakfast and I was not impressed. Actually, let me take that back. The only thing that impressed me was that the place was so busy providing lackluster food and mediocre pricing. Unless you live in Coolidge (and if you do, I'm sorry to hear that-jk) it's definitely not worth the drive. I had the ham and cheese omelet. It had a mixture of tiny diced ham and some other weird pieces of ham that made me think, "Was this on purpose or did they just run out of one type or the other?" Either way, the 2 types did not work together. The hash browns were mushy and the coffee was lacking in caffeine (or maybe she was just giving me decaf??) The one redeeming factor was, as busy as they were, the service was friendly and deserving of the extra star. read more

Tag's Cafe is a solid breakfast/mexican food oriented cafe in the sleepy town of Coolidge. It is worth a visit, if only to savor its "frozen in time" slice of rural AZ small town life. I have been going there for several years as a scooterist. When motorcycling, there needs to be a reason for your ride and finding a place to eat is a primary reason. It is the ideal terminus of a ride and many motorcyclists can be found there on any weekend morning. They are mainly made up of the fierce looking, but docile harley crowd (CPAs by day) and retired road warriors on trikes. The place is very retro, highlighted by an atmospheric, peeling paint marquee sign. Inside is all from the 60's: flip clock, formica counter, cast-base stools, etc. Sadly, there is now no smoking. I'm not a smoker, but the front room used to be filled with smoke and non-smokers were shunted into a less desirable back room. The crowd is local farmers shooting the breeze, small businessmen, and random locals for the most part (except for the bikers). Waitresses are friendly and very quick, as is the food production in the kitchen. They excel with breakfast, having all of the standards and no foo-foo items. There is a decent representation of mexican breakfasts, as well. I have settled in on the denver omelet with hashed browns as my go-to breakfast there. Nice and greasy, but full of flavor. I enhance it with their STELLAR home-made hot sauce. For lunch I normally go with mexican food, although there is a general americana sort of offering, as well. They make a solid red sauce and I normally do cheese enchiladas. Lots of gooey cheese: I must squeeze out a fair amount of it and set it aside. All-in-all a great throwback in time with solid breakfast and mexican food. Visit if you are a motorcyclist, on a drive, or visiting the ruins. read more

Meh. I tried their breakfast and it was OK but certainly not worth a half an hour drive there in a half an hour drive home. That time the waitress is really friendly and attentive. I had the steak with eggs and hashbrowns. The steak was OK. The eggs were good. The hashbrowns were not great. The coffee was OK. The second time I went, I had another signature dish of theirs, which is the chicken fried steak with gravy. It was not impressive. I ordered the clam chowder soup and it came not even warm and it was I have very big challenge to try and find the clams and it had a lot of flower in it. I sent the suit back. I have their cherry pie à la mode, and although it's a really decent price, it's brought from outside the restaurant and it was kind of a weird moist but kind of burnt crust. This a total classic local diner. The place where the locals have come for years and with good reason, the staff know them by name and the place has good food, classic American and Mexican favorites. While my travel mates went for the burgers and fries (which they thoroughly enjoyed), I went for the Daily Special. On this day the special was Meatloaf. mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and Texas toast. The portions are generous. The mashed potatoes and gravy quality. The meatloaf was much better than expected. My favorite thing on the plate though was the buttered Texas toast. So good that I now that I think of it my mouth waters. Toasted to perfection and buttery as all heck. If I go back I am getting their grilled cheese on Texas toast. While you are in town make some time to stop and see Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. My favorite breakfast place in existence as well as one of my favorite parts of moving to Coolidge. Great food, reasonable pricing, great service and an awesome atmosphere. This place has been around since the 1950's and seems to embrace their history. I love it. Also they aren't mask holes. I'll be glad to keep giving them my business whenever I can. read more

We moved to this area and found tags restaurant my great-grandmother work there in the 60s so we thought we would give it a try. We were very pleased with the customer service the smiles people laughing and the food was great and the sizes were even better. We now go every Saturday for breakfast and sometimes go and try different dinner and lunch items. Great little place in town! After a long scary hike on Picacho peak and a tour of the U of A Biosphere 2 this was the perfect place to finally get a delicious warm meal that hit the spot! I got chicken fried steak with gravy hashbrowns, 2 eggs, and rye buttered toast! Way better than Denny's any day and their portions were so generous! Delicious meals for a great price! My husband got the Tag's mexican dish special: green chili enchiladas and shredded beef tacos! We left full and satisfied on our way home to Tempe! Should you drive all the way to Coolidge to try Tag's? Probably not; however, if you happen to be in the area, you might want to check it out. Tag's Cafe is reminiscent of an Old Route 66 type diner. When you walk in, you kind of feel like you've taken a step back in time. You also definitely feel welcome...the staff is super friendly and definitely help make the experience enjoyable. The hubs and I stopped in for breakfast while our car was being serviced across the street. I went with the taco omelette and it was actually really delicious. The shredded beef inside was cooked perfectly and not fatty at all. In fact, the entire meal wasn't too greasy like you'd expect from a diner. So I left feeling satisfied and not stuffed. My husband enjoyed the omelette he chose as well. I'd definitely give Tag's two thumbs up for breakfast and I'll be back to try one of the amazing sounding sandwiches or burgers. read more

I rate this place a zero. 6 years ago it was a very pleasant place to eat at. Now it's a shit hole. The staff was very rude like they hate their jobs. My wife and I came in and sat down had our drinks order and never received them. As we watched multiple guest come in and get there drinks right away. It's a race thing there. The menus were sticky and dirty the tables were very sticky and dirty. Then the waitress wiped the table down with a dirty rag. It was very disgusting. read more

Went for breakfast with my wife on a Saturday am based on recommendations from family member. The meal was possibly the worst we've experienced in years. Served well below acceptable temperature and had to send it back to get nuked. Much of the food looked and tasted as if from a can, bottle, or frozen bag. Today we ate at Tag's Cafe and I now remember why I have not returned in the past year. We seated ourselves immediately, but no one came to the table for five minutes. After ordering, it took at least 30 minutes to receive our food. I watched four other parties who came in after us receive their orders while we waited. No one explained or apologized for the delay. My veggie omelet was lukewarm, the toast was saturated with butter, and the hash browns were flavorless. My husband said his Reuben sandwich was very good, but it was also very small.
