I'm being generous with a 3 star review. We hoped it would be a great local spot. Stopped for lunch Friday at noon.. Waitress took our order then disappeared. had to walk to front for ice tea, sweetener etc. Wife waited patiently for a soup but her hamburger and fries arrived, "oh we're out of soup". No offers or heads up to order something else. I ordered the Friday special Fried Fish with fries,$10.99. Medium preformed frozen fish portions served. The small coleslaw on my plate was brown and warm, obviously been sitting for along time under a heat lamp. Could not eat it. Waitress was oblivious. Wife's hamburger was ok but both our fries were not fresh or hot. I saw a lot of breakfasts served so maybe that's their thing. Marginal quality food and poor service. Note about masks to those that are concerned. Note on door states that there is " No Mandatory Mask Policy in Coolidge, if that bothers you do not enter! ". Homey, unpretentious local diner. Waitress was nice, coffee was okay, and was kept full. Ordered the Tag special. A pseudo Mexican style combo. Tamale was not home made, tasted like Costco's. I tried Tags when I was looking at new homes to purchase and it was recommended for me to visit for a good "hometown" meal. I arrived before closing, every table was taken but I only had to wait about 2 minutes to be seated and immediately greeted by my waitress. She was very nice, offered water, juice, coffee, and I accepted water and coffee. The feeling was of a quaint little diner with a quiet touch of hometown hospitality. Everyone was pleasant and although they were busy, I didn't wait more than 10 minutes for a hot plate of 2 pancakes (short stack). They were delicious, not greasy or paper thin. They were perfect and served with a side of butter and warm syrup. I will definitely be back to try some of the lunch plates! Highly recommend Tag's, go if you are visiting Coolidge, live in Coolidge and looking for a good local meal, or just want to support a local restaurant by stopping by to have a hot delicious cup of coffee! read more

I felt like we had stepped back 40 years or more. When we stopped in to Tags for our late lunch it was populated with old ranchers, local law enforcement and other denizens of the area. It was easy to sit at a table by the window and watch the world slowly pass by along the main drag in sleepy Coolidge, AZ. Tag's Cafe serves diner food and some diner style Mexican food. I had a combo with a tamale, taco and some other thing that was basically a half in patty of masa fried and topped with cheese and sauce. The food was respectable, not tremendous. I thought the shredded beef taco was the best item. The beef was tender and flavorful - almost like shredded brisket or pot roast. I love these small-town cafes that are friendly, and provide good, classic meals. We stopped for breakfast. Good coffee, lots of choices. The hubby ordered chicken fried steak and eggs and I had their beef patty and eggs. Both were very good. Loved the peppery flavor of the gravy on the CFS. The beef patty was very flavorful and cooked nicely. Service was prompt, friendly and speedy - but they didn't rush us. There were only two things that would improve my rating. We asked for extra crispy hash browns - and they definitely weren't. And the edges of the plates were badly chipped. I know that wouldn't fly in my hometown. But overall, a great place for breakfast! We were working in Coolidge on a hot steamy summer day and the crew and I were getting pretty hungry. I've tried some of the other places along this main drag and was not very happy with either the food or the atmosphere. Mostly chain restaurants with a few Mexican joints that had questionable reviews and were not very impressive. Tag's to the rescue! This small cafe has both friendly service and a nice menu to satisfy just about anyone. Both inside and out have that old timey appearance and feel and with a little imagination you would think you had slipped back in time. Actually the whole town is a interesting trip into the past. We all looked at the menu and realized they had a nice selection of food. Who doesn't like breakfast served all day long? Standards like Burgers, Sandwiches, Soups and Salads, Steak, Shrimp, Chicken and even Liver and Onions. Too much to list them all. That Liver and Onions dish was really calling my name but I decided to keep it simple with the extreme heat outside. Ordered the Biggest Burger on the menu called the Jumbo Burger Deluxe. It arrived with a large portion of Fries and all the fixin's to get me back in action for work. My other coworkers went with different items and they all enjoyed them as well. Everything was fresh and better than similar bigger chain resurants in Phoenix. Usually I'm only down in this area when the team cannot fix or repair one of our machines in the area. On this trip we got everything fixed along with some special training from the senior supervisor (yours truly). Nothing like rewarding ourselves with some tasty Scooby Snacks before heading back to the shop. Like other Yelpers have stated in their reviews. This is not a place that you would make a special road trip to get something to eat. Although if you happen to be in the area this is a great place to soak up some local vibe and some yummy grub. I'm only giving it 1 Star because I have to. What a total waste of time. This was our third time going and have only eaten twice. Those two meals were both breakfast and I didn't think you can screw up breakfast, but Tag's proved me wrong. Today's visit was an absolute waste of time. Our waitress got our drink order and then disappeared. There were people that came in behind us that got much better (and quicker) service than us. It's a waste of good real estate property. I'm not sure where the lower reviews are coming from. The food is solid, the wait staff is sweet, the decor is standard southwest diner, what more do you want? There were three of us, and we all ordered some type of breakfast dish and iced tea. The tea was fresh, the food was delicious and hot. They make their own salsa. If you're in the rural area I'm sure this place is a welcome retreat. We stopped by while traveling through the town. It was a Sunday, and the place was absolutely packed. And this is not a small restaurant. This was not one of our favorite choices. The food was not good, it looked and tasted like it all came out of a can. The DARK gravy on Debi's sandwich was not pleasant. My sandwich had very little meat on it. We really wanted to like this place, but we just can't recommend this restaurant. read more

I've been coming to Tag's for about a year or so and found it to be wonderful place and yes, a trip back in time. Tag's menu incorporate both southwest and American foods in over sized quantities. Tags is pretty much the local hang out for the City of Coolidge. I've even seen the mayor eating breakfast there. I usually get the biscuits and gravy combo plate when I go there. It's really good. On the weekends in cooler weather a lot of bikers like to stop there for breakfast or lunch while out riding so get there early to get a seat if you're going on a Saturday or Sunday morning. read more

The car club had a small group go down to the ruins at Casa Grande today. After a very, very interesting tour of the ruins, we headed over to Tags for some lunch. They set out their back room for us and it was ready when we arrived. They have a large menu. Some ordered breakfast, some lunch, some just sides. Our waitress did a super job of taking drink order, then food orders, keeping everything moving along and finally getting individual checks to the right diners. The food was very good, the omelets were colorful and flavorful, the burgers were tasty, the chefs salad I had was just the right amount and everything seemed fresh. Prices were about average for the food offered. The atmosphere was friendly, bright and everyone in the place appeared to be happy. Of course it was the first sunny day we had had after three days of rain. Anyway, it is certainly worth a try if you want some good basic food at a good price, in a nice setting. read more

Tag's is one of those honest little diners on the main drag of a small town, just like thousands of others all over America. That's what makes some people, like me, slam on the brakes and make a point of coming here instead of pulling in to the McDonalds across the street. Unfortunately for every such local diner there will always be a handful of out-of-towers who will make the choice of going there and then complain about it ... "it's old, it doesn't serve lattes, the employees didn't pretend to like me, it's not open 23 hours a day, etc". I've often thought that there should be a mandatory class taught in kindergarten about how to eat at diners, drive-ins and dives. I picked Tag's to have lunch at BECAUSE of how it looked, and the fact that I will always choose the local mom & pop diner over a chain restaurant anytime. I didn't read the Yelp reviews until after I sat down so it was easy to ignore the few negative ones. They had no influence on me. We got there late for lunch, about 3 PM and I was happy to see that they served their complete menu, including breakfast, until closing time at 8 PM. Understandably the place was pretty empty but one of the staff told us that there are times the place is packed. I believe it ... they have a huge off-street parking lot. When I go to a new diner, drive-in or dive I like to try a basic no-frills hamburger and Tag's had just what I wanted and it was listed for only $5.99 for the burger and fries (not much more than McDonalds). I liked (see photo) that it was served open-faced with nothing on the meat patty so I could dress it any way I want. The patty itself was thick and cooked medium-well and quite a bit larger patty than you would find as the basic burger in many places. On the side were lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and bottled ketchup and mustard. I'm sure they would have brought anything else I requested. The fries were fresh cooked and HOT and not over salted. There was nothing fancy about this burger and that's exactly how I wanted it. And the amount of food was just right for lunch and a good value for the price. As far as the rest of the place, I liked the honest diner feel to it. Nothing pretentious, no "themes", just someone who's in business to serve good food (and the menu is surprisingly extensive, including a lot of Mexican entrees). Table service was pleasant and efficient, exactly what I would expect in a small-town diner. It's amazing how some people who eat at diners seem to expect Cordon Bleu white glove service! The person in charge who I assume wasn't the owner was friendly and made us feel welcome. No this isn't the best food I've ever eaten and that's not the reason for the 5-stars. Tag's earns 5-stars for living up to the tradition of small-town diners in America and serving honest food at a decent price. read more

This place has sunk to new lows. I honestly wouldn't ever have believed this. Three of us tables sat for our food while all their staff had hot amazing looking meals coming out. Most all their staff was eating at the bar. We had to ask about our food coming out. When it did it was cold and old tasting. The gentleman next to me had his steak over cooked and cold mash potatoes and cold veggies. With an over cooked and unevenly cooked steak. Under fried shrimp. Wasn't fried enough. His soup before his meal took 20 minutes to come out as well. My biscuits were cold. My hash browns were cold and old. But their employees had delicious looking food. The lady employee hostess had said I had been waiting 2 hours to get my food. I said your an employee. If your short a cook and you close in 30 minutes then your open tickets should always come first. The gentleman sitting next me and myself will never come back. The other table still didn't have food and one of the kitchen staff walked out of the kitchen with food and sat down to eat. Still open tickets. Customers are not the priority here anymore. Wish our food was steaming hot and as delicious as their employees food was sitting across from me! I think they took half the ingredients that should have been in my food and added them to their 2 lbs huge burritos the staff were eating. My portions compared to the employees was far different.
