We came to Taft Diaz after seeing some really good reviews and were honestly pretty excited to try it. Walking in, there was a cool flower art installation hanging over the tables, which was a really unique touch and probably one of the more memorable parts of the space. That said, the overall vibe felt a little bland and didn't quite match the hype we were expecting. Food-wise, the experience was a bit mixed. We ordered a ribeye, but it unfortunately came out pretty cold. We let our server know and he did take it back so the kitchen could warm it up, which we appreciated. The table bread that came out was also on the dry side and not very impressive. The spicy margarita ended up being one of the better parts of the meal. It wasn't actually on the menu, but they made one for us and it was really good. We also ordered fries, which were solid, and the bone marrow (called "Mexican butter") was easily the highlight! It sauce that it came with! 10/10 It was rich, flavorful, and definitely the best thing we tried. ‼One quick heads-up for anyone visiting: there's a nail sticking out of the handrail going down the stairs to the bathroom, so just be careful grabbing the railing on the way down.‼ Overall, there were a couple good items, but the experience felt a little underwhelming compared to the expectations from the reviews. I spent a week in Elpaso last month and we were struggling at finding good restaurants which became a competition between me and my cousin. I looked at this place and said nah! Well he went ahead and invited the rest of the family which I was left with no choice but go! We ate from their lunch menu. We got some appetizers to share and most of us ordered the tacos. I opted for the 2 tacos and a soup. Ok... they need to do something about this soup because I was about the start chewing the container! I believe the soup was my favorite! A very classy place in downtown El Paso. I had desert rain with aviation gin and amaras mezcal, aloe Vera and mint- refreshing and perfect for a summer day. The staff is amazing and knowledgeable. The host even made a tasting menu for me on the spot! House ciabatta with butter Scallop crudo leche Tigre with scallops flown in from Japan. Very fresh! The tostadas very slightly oily but didn't matter Mexican butter was basically bone marrow cooked to perfection with blue corn tortillas Next course was corn chowder and truffle soup very very truflley and really really delish Next Was cacio Pepe very truflled and slightly salty. Probably my least favorite but good none the less Next was steak with endives and really good. He did a perfect medium rare. The food was good. The Stanton breakfast at first seemed really basic but the hash browns were really crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pancakes were a little shocking at first. It almost seemed to have a taste of alcohol but they were very good. Not usually a fan of pancakes but these were good. I had been wanting to come here for quite some time and yesterday was the day. I have a series of appointments post eye surgery and they have to dilate my eye so I can't drive. I have an Army pal who is retired and they take me to my eye appointments; in return, I take them for lunch. Kit is a win win situation and I get to catch up on all the news about everyone we knew. This trip, we came to Taft-Diaz. We were seated immediately and waited in- what took long was for the food to come out! Whoa! The prices for the food we were served was insane. $100 tab for lunch? All we can say is at least the fries were good.

Taft Diaz was on my radar before visiting El Paso, but I wasn't really planning on dining there. I usually have a pretty good idea of where I'll eat whenever I go to a different city and their menu just didn't really grab me. However, I had a bit of time before leaving for the airport to go home, and was in the area still so I looked up the lunch menu. That's when I noticed they have a "power lunch" for $15 which includes an entree, small soup or half salad, and a scoop of seasonal sorbet for dessert. Uh, you can't really beat that, so I walked over to the Stanton House which is where Taft Diaz is located on the first floor. The door was opened for me and I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in. The restaurant is a small space towards the back of the lobby, but it was airy and bright. The furnishings are soft and neutral, and I felt comfortable even though it's a higher end spot. For lunch I ordered two tacos: one al pastor and one tempura artichoke, as well as the Caesar salad. The salad came out first and was excellent - I've eaten a lot of Caesar salads in my lifetime and this one was a bit different yet still delicious. The house dressing was savory and I loved the crispy melba toast pieces. The tacos were very small, but packed with flavor and really a great value for this $15 lunch option. The al pastor was a bit different than the al pastor I'm used to - saucier and a bit spicy. The meat was tender and I liked the toppings - pickled onion and roasted pineapple. The tempura artichoke was definitely my favorite! I loved the textures and the flavor of the marinated mushrooms (sidenote, I would eat a taco with those too). The tempura wasn't super crispy but I liked the softer fry on the artichoke. It made me think of a fried fish taco, but a vegetarian take. I overheard one of the servers recommending this taco to another guest so I think it's pretty popular. I'd definitely get this again. Dessert was a scoop of fresh strawberry sorbet - it was a little icier than I prefer, but the freeze-dried strawberries were a nice texture and the flavor of the sorbet was great. Overall I was so pleased with this meal and enjoyed it much more than my food at Elemi. I'd come back in the future for this lunch special specifically, but they also serve breakfast, brunch, and dinner. read more

We visited this place after seeing good reviews and hotel staff recommended. I like the reviews, the level of this restaurant (food) did not impress me. The server did not pay attention to our food being ready (she was doing something in the kitchen by the bar), so they sat under the warmer for a while (more than 7 mins.) I asked another sever to bring me the food since he attended a table next to ours. He didn't go bring the food, instead did what he had to do and then go tell our server. Food was obviously not at the optimal temperature. The quality of food did not justify the price (did we pay for the contemporary ambiance??) Save your money and go to the burger shop next door. Very small eggs on top, which I figured so which is why I ordered a side of sausage. What I did like were the chips they used for the chilaquiles instead of tortillas... I enjoyed the crunchiness. For main I enjoyed the tacos and my daughter had the chicken. All delicious. Don't miss the interesting wines from Baja Mexico. We had a lovely blend, Ensemble Colina 2016, that was silky smooth with a spice finish ($60). Fun fact, the Baja region where this wine is produced, was where wine was first made in the americas in the early 1600s. They still produce some excellent wine in this region to this day. read more

I came for brunch with friends and try someplace new. We made reservations because some of the other nearby restaurants are often very busy for the same reason. When we arrived, we were the only guests, which was somewhat nice. The service was very polite and attentive. The two cocktails I ordered (Desert Rain & White Witch) were enjoyable. The food (Stanton Breakfast) was okay. A bit over priced for what it was. This place has a lot of potential. This place is kind of tucked away in a building near downtown. Had I not been leveraging Yelp to find a breakfast spot, I doubt I would have found it. But as I was staying at the Paso del Norte for a work trip, I looked on Yelp to find a breakfast spot nearby. All I saw was the main pic of the pancakes and I knew I had to get here. I went in on a Thursday morning around 7:45a. I didn't see the signage immediately, but luckily, they have a doorman standing outside and he said "Are you looking for Taft Diaz?" (which shows that I looked lost). I told him I was and he lit up and was so excited. He was so gracious as he opened the door for me and had a hostess whisk me away to a table. The staff here is SUPER friendly! Honestly, some of the friendliest and most welcoming staff I've seen in a loooong time! So if my rating were based on that alone, it would be a 5 star review. The waitress kept asking if there was anything she could do to make my experience enjoyable, etc. It was just so pleasant. I didn't waste any time since I had a meeting at 8:30a that I needed to get back to. And I knew I needed those pancakes, so I ordered them almost immediately. She put them in and I was able to see that a table of 5-6 people put their order in right ahead of me. Unfortunately, that meant my food took longer than normal to come out (I ended up being late to my 8:30a meeting :/ ) So one thing to note for breakfast is that this is a small place with only about 12-15 tables. There was only one waitress for the whole place, so that probably means there's only 1-2 cooks as well. So take note of that if you are in a rush. My pancakes came out and I was bummed that they didn't look like the pic. Well presentation-wise they did; but they were also very burned. So burned, that I was kind of surprised they served them to me. But I had no time to waste since I had a meeting in less than 10 mins. So I scarfed the food down. It was still enjoyable. The butter is soft and spreadable, the maple syrup was the perfect amount and the fruit was delicious. If I ever came back here, I'd make sure I am not in a rush. Because if I had more time, I would have asked them to remake the pancakes for me. And given how nice everyone is there, I'm sure they would have obliged. Also, bonus that my bill was less than $15. It was a great price for the ambiance and a hearty breakfast. I would go back, but just need to make sure I have plenty of time. read more

Ambiance - Inside the new Stanton hotel, the area is clean, sophisticated, and modern with plenty of natural lighting and a white/slate color scheme. Service - Open kitchen concept which was cool to see. There was only one server for two parties and he kept disappearing? It was a bit odd, but he was nice. Just wish he was more present. Food - Had the chicken sandwich, flautas, and complimentary bread. Bread was delicious and fresh as was the butter and green chile sauce. Flautas were beautifully plated and with a unique spin, but was nothing extraordinary. Chicken sandwich had a hint of spice which was nice. The food was delicious, but nothing mindblowing. I was excited to try Taft Diaz but was super disappointed. Started off with the Cheese & Provisions ($28) plate. When the plate arrived, I laughed at the transparent 3 slices of cucumber we were given (see pictures). Not very presentable. Does feed 2-3 people. As an entree I had the seared scallops. Despite we were 1 of 2 tables in the whole restaurant, my dish managed to arrive cold. I first found out about Taft Díaz while looking for upscale restaurants on Google, but then encountered it again while on a downtown hotel tour hosted by Downtown El Paso. The restaurant caught my eye because of its bright yet cozy location and the Shy Lights art exhibit, which are one of a kind! We were happy to see them in action during dinner. We went to Taft Diaz on a Saturday at 5:00pm. We spent about an hour and a half there just enjoying the food and drinks. We were surprised that there was no one else there for the first hour or so, but it was early so kind of made sense. We grabbed a couple drinks at the bar before our reservations. I got the Mal Ojo, which is a beautifully blue margarita made with curaçao. Delicious! We grabbed a couple other drinks while at dinner and the Crimson Blossom was also great. When we seated for dinner, we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful waiter, Francisco. He brought us bread with a garlic herb butter. We ordered a couple ahi tuna tostadas as an appetizer. Perfect size as to not ruin my appetite and had a ton of great flavor. My significant other ordered the corn and truffle soup which was AMAZING. Seriously, get it. For dinner, I ordered the seared scallops. At first I didn't expect the different flavors to go together, but they did. Everything was cooked perfectly and just absolutely delicious. I've been here three times for lunch and every meal was great but this is my first review. Previous meals included salads, tacos and some other tasty dishes I sampled from others. This time around I opted for the spicy chicken sandwich which included a side of fries. I gotta say - I'd pick this over the famed Popeyes chicken sandwich any day of the week! Really good - just spicy enough and very tasty! The fries were a nice combo with it too. Service from our waitress Maria was top notch. We were driving across the country from SF to ATX, and decided to swing by El Paso for a quick breakfast before doing our last stretch of the drive. Was seated quickly and greeted by Leslie, who was super sweet and helpful in helping us lock in our choices. I got the chilaquiles (you can choose rojo, verde, or both salsas, which I did) and my dad got the pancakes with sausage. They were both delicious and beautifully plated by Chef Erick R. and his team! For the chilaquiles, I really enjoyed the rustic earthiness of the rojo salsa mixed with the tangy sour spiciness of the verde salsa together. The egg (which you can request how you'd like it) and the mashed bean paste helped make the dish more robust and protein-rich -- it kept me full for the whole day! My portion was also definitely fair for the price. No wonder it's their most popular breakfast choice! Most of the reviews here seem to be for dinner. So if you're in the area and can grab them for breakfast, do it! I'd definitely go back again for those chilaquiles. read more

We were excited to try out this place because of the good reviews and the exciting menu items that I saw on the Yelp menu pics. However, I was a little disappointed that some of the interesting items that I saw were not on the current menu - but that's my fault for not checking out the menu on their website prior to our visit. We started out with the Mushroom Barbacoa starter and that was pretty amazing! It was a well-constructed dish with a great flavor profile - the sauce was great. All the ingredients worked well together. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chicken skin chicharrón brought this dish up to another level because it added an extra dimension of flavor and texture (crunch). The mushrooms were delicious - almost tasted like a meat item. I thought that this would have been a great main entree in itself. The flavor was bold and the tortilla was perfect in that it helped tone it down a little so that it was not overpowering. The corn & truffle soup was highly recommended so we gave that a try. I thought it was nice but a bit too rich for me to eat in it's entirety, but my wife thought it was good. I also had the taco Al Pastor pork and it was enjoyable but there is only 1 taco per order. The pineapple added another enjoyable flavor to the dish. For our mains, my wife had the Al Mojo catch of the day which was cod - I think Alaskan?. Her cod was well-cooked and seasoned (a hint of a caramelized flavor) but the risotto was a bit too al dente - too firm to the bite. We've had delicious risotto in other restaurants before and this seemed a bit undercooked for our tastes. I had the seared scallops. The scallops had a decently seasoned but it seemed slightly overcooked as they were a bit on the chewier side. The barley was a bit too firm for my liking - kind of like the risotto. I'm not sure if it was undercooked. However, I don't have much experience eating barley and am not sure if it was done properly and was just not my thing. The positives were that we were warmly greeted by the hostess and had good service from our waiter. The mushroom barbacoa was the highlight of the night. We were in El Paso for 2 nights. We were pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a reservation last minute. A lot of places in El Paso do not take reservations, so this was definitely a perk. The staff greeted us by name and sat us immediately. We enjoyed the decor but the booth felt a bit uncomfortable with the stiff high backs. We had the shishito peppers to start and enjoyed the chicken Caesar salad and the Taft salad. We loved our food but thought that it was a bit overpriced. The violet aviation was also a great choice with touch of lavender. We also ordered a glass of red wine. There was only 2 options for by the glass which I was a little disappointed by. Aguachile: cold dish with scallops, avocado, and other veggies with vinaigrette. Really refreshing. Tasted very similar to ceviche dish. The waiter recommended the Tempura Artichoke taco as one of their best items and guys this was sooooo good. The flavors were perfect and one of the best tacos I've had in El Paso. My husband and I recently did a staycation for a night at The Stanton House. (Amazing) we made a reservation for Taft Diaz for dinner. It is a very small area of the first floor. Quaint little area next to a quaint hotel bar. Very intimate and cozy. We were greeted by Francisco our waiter who was great. He was very efficient and attentive. Immediately we were brought bread for the table. I was starving but this bread was amazing. Don't skip the bread you Keto people. You will miss out. The menu is small but very diverse and unique entrees. We ordered the Meatballs for the appetizer. It came with 4 large Meath balls with large 1/4 pieces of roasted tomatoes in an amazing Italian sauce and a "Brûlée Burrata". I had known idea what it was but it ended up being an amazing mozzarella type of cheese and best of all served with more bread! The dish was so good. Main course, so of course my husband had to order the rib eye ( because why change it up) he is a rib eye connoisseur and has had every rib eye in El Paso. (Well almost) this was hand down the BEST! It was so tender it literally melted in your mouth. It was served with 2 dipping sauces that too were out of this world, a charred avocado, grilled onions, and a side of very tasty mashed potatoes. Amazing! Definitely worth the $75 price. I ordered the seared scallops with carbonara sauce, hatch green chile on little beds of risotto. I was very impressed. I would order this dish again. However I was a bit jealous of my husband rib eye. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant worth the price, the service was on point and the experience was very enjoyable.
