What a wonderful way to start my Sunday adventures. I had a beautiful latte and the Wentelteefjes, or focaccia French toast with a side salad. The French toast was so nice and thick and the pear jam was a nice touch. I also enjoyed the balsamic vinegar dressing on the salad - it was nice and thick. My server was also friendly and attentive. The only downside was that I would have preferred my salad on a separate plate and wished I had thought to ask when I ordered. read more

I stopped by the Lindner cafe in the beautiful Taft museum. The setting was airy and elegant, with plenty of comfortable seating. The menu is small and served from a tiny kitchen so your choices will be limited. I tried a bowl of the soup of the day - lentil miso and it was tasty. The lentils were cooked perfectly, but some bread would've been appreciated. I had a basic salad and it was also okay, though it didn't need the raw onions and some of lettuce pieces were mushy. Service was quite slow. It took ages to get plates cleared and I never got a drink or water refill. read more

I enjoyed a delightful worktime lunch with a friend at the Lindner Family Cafe at Taft Museum on Wednesday. I made reservations online through Yelp and were seated right away. They have a beautiful outdoor patio to dine outside, but it was too hot to enjoy a lunch outside, so were seated by window inside. We were handed menus and given a few minutes to review, water with lemon was brought to the table. I decided on the Summer Vegetable Galette with a side salad and my friend ordered Croque Monsieur ham & cheese sandwich. Our food arrived pretty quickly and was served warm. My vegetable tart looked & after my first bite was delicious. My friend's sandwich was a bit runny on the cheese - we expected it to be baked, but literally cheese oozed from all over the sandwich. The side greens salad was delicious, fresh greens and vegetables with balsamic vinaigrette. Our waiter informed us of dessert selections he mentioned cheesecake and something else, I asked if they had anything chocolate. He hesitated at first, but then remembered they had a chocolate devils food cake with raspberries & cream - we were sold, we shared & devoured the cake. It was the perfect dessert to finish off our lunch. The cafe is a wonderful break from the hectic pace of downtown and the nearby interstate. Stop by the Taft Museum and enjoy a wonderful lunch in historic and art filled setting. read more

We had the Easter brunch buffet there for a party of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids). The cost was $55 per adult and $30 per child. Words can't even express how disappointing this was. Brunch was served in a makeshift tent outside the museum. I would give the quality of the food maybe a 2 out of 5 stars and the selection of food items was incredibly limited. The service was also horrible - it didn't seem like they understood even the basics of food service or catering. I don't understand why the museum would put its reputation on the line by offering such sub-par brunch. I'm hoping someone reads this review in future years and doesn't make the same mistake we did with our family easter brunch. read more

Cincinnati's best kept secret is just beyond the entryway at the Taft Museum of Art. Inside you'll find large glass tables with patio chairs and an adjoining garden where you can eat outside under an umbrella. A white-collared server presented us with a small but ample menu and listed off many daily specials. The atmosphere and gourmet food made Lindner Family Cafe a perfect spot for our business lunch. I ordered: - Corn Crab Chowder - Croissant with Prosciutto, roasted artichoke and peppers - Side salad with pesto vinegarette - Iced tea The portions were just right and each item had a variety of unique flavors in every bite. The Corn Crab Chowder was definitely the star of the meal with tender shreds of crab in each bite. My dining companion ordered a Sweet Potato Curry soup, which she loved. It's delicious scent wafted across the table. I'll have to try it next time. Our server, Will, was kind and attentive making for an exemplary dining experience. This is the cafe inside the Taft Museum and a great place to enjoy lunch whether you're viewing the art at the museum or not. I've been here several times for lunch during the week because it's walking distance from my office and have been delighted each time. The menu is short, but each time is tasty and fresh with lots of daily specials. There are different soups each day and I've never had a bad one. There's also a quiche of the day, which are quite nice and several salads and sandwiches. Reservations are accepted and might be a good idea for peak lunch times. Service is gracious, but can be a bit leisurely, so not the best place to go if you're in a hurry. Prices are not cheap, but overall a good value I think for the experience. Expect to pay $15-20 per person, including drink and tip. Because of the location, the ambiance is of course charming and definitely try to snag an outdoor seat in the garden when the weather is nice. The clientele tends to be on the older side, but it's a fun place to go with a friend, no matter what your age, for a "ladies who lunch" experience. Note: the museum and cafe are only open Wednesday-Sunday and the museum is free on Sundays. read more

Because I work downtown, I'm always looking for new places that are easily accessible during the lunch hour, the Taft Museum is a wonderful change of pace from my usual frenzied breaks. The Lindner Family Cafe is a nice, laid back experience at the Taft Museum that has a calming view of the house's courtyard. My favorite part is that the menu changes seasonally and matches the theme of their traveling exhibits. So clever! In addition, there's a different quiche available everyday, so you're certain to find something that's gourmet and different. There aren't many tables, so I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure a seat. The staff is also very friendly and attentive and have come to be very familiar with us, as my mother and I now frequent the cafe nearly every other week. I believe that Taft members also receive a discount at the restaurant. Haven't had a bad meal there yet! It's a nice place. read more

The food is good, which is why you come; although maybe seeing the exhibits on a free admission Sunday also has something to do with it. Otherwise, it's a rather odd dining experience inside. There are few tables, so a reservation is recommended. That being said, there have always been open tables when we've arrived. The interior is strangely nondescript and beige, with tables pushed against the walls. The coffee is extremely weak--like brown water--and you start to wonder if you are really in a nursing home. Now for the good: the food is quite delicious and a side salad comes with all the options. I can't resist the crab cake Benedict. My boyfriend usually opts for the meatloaf, which is made of beef and rice, like the filling in my mom's cabbage rolls. Another strange thing is the service: they are both over eager and unwilling to make eye contact. We were asked four times whether they could clear our plates, which is three times too many. This appears to be a Cincinnati phenomenon though--it always happens when one of us is talking, fork down, and the other one is mid-bite. So, lesson learned: never put your fork down in Cincinnati, particularly not at the Taft. read more

Always a pleasant interlude to a visit to the Taft, one of my favorite museums. The quiches are very good and I enjoy the way 2-3 dishes are tailored to current exhibitions. Service is excellent (the museum staff generally are unusually friendly and helpful). One caution--unfortunately, the space planning is such that visitors arriving from the parking garage must make their way through the cafe to get to the admissions desk, then back through the cafe again to get to most of the exhibits. This leads to some noise and traffic through the cafe, which is small. Particularly an issue when families with children gather for one of the museum's periodic family-oriented programs. Hopefully this problem will be corrected in the next round of museum renovations. Until then, I would avoid the cafe on afternoons when family events are scheduled. Note: the museum's special afternoon teas, which are delightful, are held in a separate large room where this traffic flow is not a problem. read more

Bad, bad customer service. My husband and I were in Cincinnati, Ohio to celebrate our 20th anniversary and a trip to the Taft museum of art could not be left off our itinerary. And if course we wanted to visit the Lindner family cafe. They refused to sit us indoors (and I could not use the outdoor seating area due to health issues) claiming to be fully booked. I walked past the indoor area several times and it was never fully occupied. It was never even half occupied. There were always more empty tables than occupied. And again at 1 pm when we were done visiting the museum, I asked again if the restaurant was fully booked and again the answer was yes. Two tables were occupied, the rest were empty. On their website, reservations are recommended but they also say that walk ins are welcome. I beg to differ. Walk ins are not welcome. Not welcomed at all. Poor service. read more

Perhaps the food is good. I never got a chance to try it because for the Downton Abby special exhibit they required reservations. I called twice, 3 days apart. They don't answer their phones and everything goes to voice mail. They never returned my phone calls. Pretty hard to try the food when they won't let you make a reservation.
