He was very knowledgeable about the products and design styles and had a great eye for the overall aesthetic, and so friendly. You can see out of the screen perfectly from the inside, but can only see inside if your face is pressed against the screen. The privacy factor wasn't as important to us, we mostly wanted the airflow. The screen looks beautiful and adds so much airflow and light to our house without our pets being able to burst through. Just about 6 weeks from ordering to install was pretty quick turnaround, as even ordering a screen from Lowe's would have been 6-8 weeks just for delivery. Steep price due to our extra tall doors, but comparable to other vendors. XL doors come with XL costs. Not having to install it, redo the stucco ourselves, or worry about break ins or rust with their guarantees was 100% worth the price.

I think most companies receive their products from the same few dealers out of the area, so all of the other factors - sales, recommendations, follow-up, and installation are where Steve's really shines. Their salesman was a zero-pressure, information-forward gentleman who provided plenty of options and recommendations that would fit our front door and window setup. The front desk staff/logistics/admin were friendly, happy to chat with us, and flexible when it came to scheduling and planning. The installers are absolutely top-notch - these really feel like "local guys from the neighborhood" who care about making sure their work is here to last and be permanent. Just because the main offices aren't in Sacramento doesn't mean they don't care about each customer, regardless of where they're located. The final product is absolutely top notch, and we use everything on a regular basis. We get compliments and have sent friends to Steve's for referrals. Their whole product/installation is a perfect example of buy-nice-or-buy-twice - expensive, but arguably worth it overall.

I called Vortex and setup an appointment to have them repair it. Their tech replaced the parts that were needed ($279) but didn't clean up the oil/grease that was on the door. Big surprise was the $595 service charge that came in the bill. They charge $238/hr for labor and they bill from when their tech "leaves" the shop to when he "returns". According to my invoice, I was billed $238 for driving time 30 minutes each way. Hmm this was NOT disclosed when I setup the appointment and I basically paid them to advertise on the road. Only service company that I am aware of that charges for driving time. Needless to say I will not be using them again!

We wanted to replace all our original 1960s-era single-pane windows with double-pane windows. We…read morealso wanted a storm door for our front door. We got an estimate from Andersen (less the storm door). Their products and installation method were top-notch, but so was their estimated price! So we wanted something more economical. After some research we heard Milgard windows using an "retrofit" installation would be more in our price range. We also wanted a window/door-installation company that gave us a good price estimate (1/3 the cost of Andersen), was in our locale (Tri-Valley) , and had 5-star rating already. So we were happy to find Cal Coast that met those criteria. The initial estimate process was straightforward. Our estimator was friendly and efficient. The format of the estimate came in digital PDF format. It was easy to print, and the details and layout were very helpful with diagrams of what the windows and door would look like with dimensions. One measurement for one window was slightly off. I mentioned that to my estimator. He assured me that was not a problem because if I accepted their estimate, then the next step was for another technician would come out to the house to re-measure the windows more accurately and in more detail. We did accept the estimate, and indeed another technician came out to do detailed measurements. Then we received a revised and more detailed contract in that same great layout! The estimator kindly set our expectations that our windows and door were going to take 5-6 weeks to custom manufacture and about 1 to 2 days to install. Those timings were right on target, which helped us in planning other events in our life. Installation only took 1 day! The crew was great - courteous, hard working, and efficient. They put foam insulation in the space between our window frames and the new windows. The caulking work was professional. I was pleased. And the crew cleaned up after themselves perfectly. Another thing I was pleased with was Cal Coast's production manager helped me apply and get my city building permit for the new windows. The day of installation, the foreman handed me a nice folder with the printed permit with other instructions. I really appreciated that. Also after installation she worked with my city building department to schedule a final inspection by a city inspector. When the inspector came out, because the product and installation were superb, it passed with no problem. Of course, I paid a little more to have this permit processing service, but it was well worth it. Finally, as you can tell from this rather long review, I'm very pleased with our experience with Cal Coast and the Milgard products. I add my 5-star review to others that have gone before me for Cal Coast!
