Upscale Asian restaurant. I went for the sushi. They offer a lot of options if you like spicy fake crab. At least I think that's what it was. The sushi restaurants start making a lot of their rolls with "spicy" ingredients. They are cutting their costs by blending ingredients. Not my favorite choice in a sushi place. They have a good menu of sashimi and nigiri sushi. I was in the mood for some rolls. They were good. There are LOTS of Sushi options in the neighborhood. So sorry, SO SAD. Tadashi was one of my FAVORITE two sushi spots in the Austin area for years (the other is probably not what you're thinking). Just superb; a true dining experience. Treated like the regular I was, always phenomenal service, offered me special off menu items on every visit, the freshest fish, exquisite presentations...just wow. And a great happy hour to boot. Thennnnnnn... About a year prior to my last restaurant visit, I had ordered an extra large assortment of items ($$$$) for delivery for a special occasion at home. It had been a while, but I noticed immediately something was "off." Bottom line, everything was just sloppy and not as fresh as it always had been in the past. I chalked it up to delivery versus dine in. There was something in the back of my mind though that told me that Chef Sun would never have let those items leave the restaurant. Fast forward to in-house dining again. Visible wear and tear on the restaurant interior (looks old). A few plates were even chipped. Might sound nitpicky, but in my humble opinion they need to reinvest some money into the restaurant to get it back up to its shiny self. The service was lackluster, slow, cordial but not necessarily friendly. Some of my favorite menu items (such as the yummmmmy sea bass) are no longer available. Prices were significantly higher than they used to be; however, that's everywhere right? Pft. Decided to order some "safe" dishes that had always been personal favorites. Go to "Red Hill Tower" was served first. The presentation was all right. Not as meticulous as it used to be. When I dug in mixed it all together I noticed how horrible the knife work was. I mean they butchered the tuna. Knife skills are very important in sushi. Many chefs train for years. Flavor was a-okay with all the house sauces, but for 20 bucks it left me wanting more. Gyoza was greasy and chewy. Rice in California Roll was on the dry side. Katsu was also quite dry and lacked flavor. Admittedly the vegetable tempora was pretty tasty. Not surprisingly, I was informed that the restaurant had been purchased by new owners quite some time ago. All of the changes are so apparent, and none are positive. Quality control and pride of stellar presentation and service has disappeared. Tadashi is now (sobbing) sadly just another subpar sushi restaurant with much higher prices than most. Goodbye my old friend. I have no intentions of returning. :( read more

Review for Tadashi - Hill Country Galleria (3 stars) I honestly came to Tadashi fully expecting to give a 5-star review. I figured, what could go wrong? The setting was beautiful, I was seated outside on a lovely evening, and the waitress was friendly, even though the service was a bit slow. The highlight of the night was the chicken wings. They were 5-star plus--cooked extremely well, succulent, and the meat fell right off the bone. At $11, they were absolutely worth it, and I would come back just for those. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't live up to expectations. The hot sake was not properly hot and was priced higher than other Japanese restaurants in the area. The egg rolls were raw inside, which was concerning from a health standpoint and not something I would order again. I came in expecting a 5-star experience, but because only one item truly stood out, I can only give this a 3-star review overall. Randomly ordered sushi from Tadashi (I'm not from around here) and was pleasantly surprised with what I got. I fully expected TINY portions and to be hungry after my meal but I wound up pleasantly full and happy with the quality... Minus the fact that the salmon skin handrolls are TINY AS EVER. The hamachi Kama was delicious, perfectly cooked and they gave me extra rib meat, which was an unexpected surprise! The salmon belly sashimi (fatty salmon) was a real treat (it's my favorite) and I didn't realize I ordered 2 orders, but I'm thrilled that I did. The salmon (not fatty) was also delicious. The salmon skin hand rolls were also good but SOOOOOO small. Basically almost no salmon skin at all. Tadashi DID however listen to my request for no rice or vegetables or sauce, so that's nice! Over all, I definitely rate my meal a 4/5. A 4 purely because the salmon skin handrolls were just SOOOO small and because this meal of mine was OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. read more

The sushi flavors here are first rate, i'm guessing because of the freshness. But what we really appreciated was the professional level of service when something goes wrong. Yes, there was an imperfection in one of the dishes served us. Not only was the problem corrected quickly, but the manager came by to apologize and comped that part of the bill, which was about 30% of the total bill. This was really overcompensation for the minor problem but it demonstrated a level of professionalism and customer care only found at the top of the mark. Well done Tadashi! read more

Tadashi is my family's go-to sushi spot. They have gluten free tamari available. The menu is not marked but staff knowledgeable about how to alter rolls to be gluten free. Imitation crab meat (kanikama) will be subbed with whitefish in rolls such as the California and rainbow. The bincho nigiri is my favorite. We also like the Philadelphia roll, hot spring with white fish (and be sure to check if the waiter is there that can make some gf ponzu sauce), and the foxy lady with sriracha instead of the spicy red sauce. read more

My husband found this spot for lunch. So we thought we would give it a shot. Was greeted and seated waiter gave us some time to decide on what we wanted. Got a miso soup and husband ordered a bento box which comes with miso soup. Our toddler wasn't hungry so we shared our food with her. It was nice to see the menu did have a children options. I ordered the Hawaiian roll . The prices were ridiculously high from what I am used to especially for Japanese food. a bento box was over $25 seemed very steep and portions were typical for a bento box and food was fair. Service was good but food was honestly a bit overpriced . So get ready to spend for 2 easily $40 something and up just for lunch. One of our favorite sushi places in this area. My daughter's favorite order is the teriyaki steak meal with a large bowl of miso soup. I love to try different sushi options - whatever I'm in the mood for that day, small miso, house salad with ginger dressing, hot tea...and top the meal off with a sweet plum wine! There is rarely parking directly in front of the restaurant, but plenty of parking within a block or two since this place is at the Bee Cave Galleria. Staff is always friendly! Sushi was fresh and flavorful and I look forward to trying it again. If you have a large appetite, I recommend the bento box lunch which had a huge portion of food: Chicken Katsu, sushi, gyoza, California roll, Tempura roll, assorted tempura and rice. My husband and I went to Tadashi on a date day. We were unimpressed with the interior of the restaurant and chose to sit outside on a beautiful 80° day. We started with the miso soup which was delicious, my husband followed that up with a salad, and our main course was the medium sushi tray which was beautiful and tasty. The service was subpar & nothing to write home about but we had a nice time. I loved the company. :) Overall I would give the restaurant three stars. Walking into this sushi restaurant I was really excited and hopeful. The sushi menu seemed much more extensive and authentic than many other restaurants in the area. The fact that they had sweet shrimp sushi and scallop sushi on the menu was a big tip to me that I might really love this place. However, unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The seafood was of good quality, but I'm afraid the sushi was not particularly good all together. The sushi rice, in particular, was lacking. It was a bit dry and flavorless. I was very disappointed that the rice was so sub-par, considering my (apparently incorrect) assessment of the restaurant and the price of the dishes at this establishment. My SO ordered the chicken teriyaki and he also reported that it was nothing special. I have to say that the quality of the seafood was decent, but that everything else about this place was disappointing. We will not be returning. read more

Do not order - at least through GrubHub. Tadashi adds extra charges on top of what your GrubHub total is. Tadashi charges a convenience fee and delivery fee while GrubHub waives those charges if you are a member. I called Tadashi asking for my card to be refunded for these charges and the claimed it's GrubHub's fault (which is not true). Tadashi is adding on these charges. Check your receipt if ordering from them - it's such a scam. read more

Pricer than their other restaurant, Izumi Sushi, and with a slightly different selection, but the quality remains good. The bento box is larger than any I remember getting at other restaurants, with a special rotating sample added to the classic fare. I got the salmon teriyaki bento box and enjoyed the variety of flavors and the crunchy bed of vegetables the salmon was presented on. I think if I was to go back, though, I would rather try one of their main dishes. I got my meal to-go, but from what I could tell 40%+ of the restaurant capacity was outdoor tables with heating lamps scattered in-among. Its location right next to the movie theater in the Hill Country Galleria means that parking is not great and you'll likely have to walk a bit, even if you're getting a meal to-go. There's no designated to-go parking just for Tadashi, and the limited shared to-go parking was full. It seemed fairly quiet inside the restaurant, but with the doors open to the outside I would imagine it could get noisy during busy shopping times. Would definitely come try it again one day if in the area, but it's not a super quick to-go option due to the parking situation and it's location within the shopping center. read more

We have eaten here often. It is very convenient for dinner and a movie since it's right next-door to the movie theater. The food is always very good. Tonight I had the sashimi salad and my husband had a Bento box. I was concerned about the description of the dressing on the salad as being spicy so I asked for the ginger dressing instead. The waiter asked if it would be all right if he brought it to me on the side. I said yes and he brought me the ginger dressing plus the dressing that is intended to go on the salad. He didn't argue with me about it being too spicy. He just gave me the choice which was genius. It turns out that the dressing that was designed to go on the salad was perfect for it, and not too spicy at all. The Bento box was delicious as always. But, the reason for this review is that the service was amazing. Every human being with whom we interacted, the host, our wait person, and the busser, were all remarkably good at their jobs, personable, polite, and efficient. The host was particularly good at seamlessly, making sure tables were ready, quickly reconfiguring them for group size, making sure that set ups appeared when none were there as he approached the table, and that sort of thing. And the busser unobtrusively made sure that no dirty dish stayed on our table longer than it should have. At one point she noticed that I had swiped at the table with my napkin to dry up some condensation, and she quickly swooped in and wiped it herself without being intrusive about it. Thank you! My only wish is they added a salad with the bento but it is s lot of food for the $$ already. Highlighting to Management: Also since this was noted by one other reviewer I just submitted this dinner for reimbursement and noticed with tip the total was $49.54 but credit card statement was $50. Although small difference for me, if done consistently across customers it can add up quickly to some significant fraudulently activity. You may want to do some internal investigating. read more

These people giving 5 Star Reviews must be out of their mind. I've never been to such a terrible "upscale restaurant" in my life. On second thought I wouldn't even consider this much of upscale. Either way the amount of things that were awful that stood out to me on my dining experience here is ludicrous. I made a reservation online and we arrived a little early, so there was no table for us. I asked if it was possible to get a call or text when our table was ready so we could stroll the shops near by. We got a text about the time of our reservation. The restaurant was fairly busy that night. It took quite a bit of time for our server to come grab drink orders from us. We ordered water and a beer in the bottle. Some how he managed to get the order as a draft and told us we should just drink that one and he would get us a bottle after we finished the draft. The first dish we got was the Agadashi tofu. He brought no plates with the dish so we could share. I asked him for plates and he said he had to go find some and hoped he could find some. Took him about 5-10 minutes to "find" plates. That is absolutely crazy to me, that he had to go find some, it's a restaurant that serves food.... that should have plates. Any ways, the dish was awful, it was the most bland, tasteless Agadashi tofu I have ever eaten. There was no flavor to it what so ever. I even split my tofu and let it sit in the sauce for a little to absorb some flavor, and that still didn't help. Our soy sauce bottle was empty so I placed it with the open cap on the edge of our table for our server or any employee actually to notice that it was empty. Multiple people who even brought dishes to our table or walked by didn't notice. When our server finally came back to take orders I let him know and he had to go get help filling it.... I even asked once during our dinner if they had anything besides low sodium soy sauce, and he said the kitchen cooked with it and it's in a barrel back there he might be able to get me some. Never came back with any soy sauce, and I'm sure they do not cook with it with the lack of taste and flavor on their dishes. My friend ordered the $40 sushi chef special and I ordered the Bento box, but the bento box came out much after the sushi dish did, so I was waiting for quite a while without food. It seemed the items were fairly cold in my bento box anyways. I'm pretty sure our server forgot to put in our Kushiyaki orders because those came out basically at the end of our meal. In addition to they were also cold as well. The weird thing was the bacon wrapped asparagus was on a skewer, but the asparagus I guess had fallen out of the skewer and was just shoved somewhere on the dish.... I also asked for more rice and I was told the restaurant was out of rice and there was only brown rice if I would like some. Which is strange for a sushi restaurant to be out of rice. I asked for the brown rice anyways and that took quite a bit of time to bring out, but it was hot at least, so I guess it was made fresh. We ordered mochi and it was absolutely the worse mochi I have ever eaten. It was old and tasted like it had freezer burn. It was disgusting I had to spit it out because it was so terrible. I've had better mochi coming from the grocery freezer! Overall the worse $140 I've ever spent! I would never recommend it or return. I'm shocked they even have business and are rated so high.
