My Miso Butterfish & Mixed Tempura Teishoku.
Clifton C.

I recently had dinner here. My daughter and family live in Aiea and we were looking for a restaurant that was convenient for me to meet them at. My grandson also wanted to have fresh sushi. Yelp reviews were good, so I made a reservation. This is a family run business that serves Japanese food in a friendly welcoming vibe. Service is very attentive. The food is on the pricey side. My grandson did enjoy his sushi, which was made to order and he said the fish was fresh. I had the Miso Butterfish & Tempura Teishoku. I found the Tempura good, but the tempura sauce too salty. The miso butterfish was excellent. My daughter and son-in-law enjoyed what they ordered. IMO the food is good but not outstanding. Portions are generous. Unfortunately, they no longer have a liquor license and charge a corkage fee. They even charge for hot tea. Tadashi is a good option for Japanese food in the Aiea/Pearlridge area. Support local family business.

I only heard good things about Tadashi..Well had to see for myself. Tadashi is located in "Pearl Kai" across kam hwy from the old Sears. The parking can be challenging in the evenings. Alot of eateries, stores and a gym all using the same parking. Tadashi is located deeper into the mall closer to the gym and a 4 or 5 store fronts from baskin & robins towards the ocean. Their storefront is very low key. All the outside windows are obscured with posters..menus and other announcements. Entry is a small unassuming door leading to a sonewhat small airconditioned dining area with a bar (no alcohol but can bring your own with corkage fee) area to the right. The wooden tables and chairs are well spaced out and doesnt feel cluttered. The staff is pleasant and dilligent in their duties. Our order didnt take long. The menu is your typical japanese restaurant fare (I guess not too familiar) Tonkatsu..butter fish..sukiyaki..soup...noodles..not sure if they had steak or salmon because we were told it wasnt available...not sure if they ran out or discontinued? The food was good quality ..portions was good and pretty much manageable (japanese food is always on higher end of price spectrum) Everything was spot on! Service was quick and pleasant..food was quality and tasty ..restaurant seemed very clean but I gotta mention the mens bathroom. It was in house and seemed to be very clean and maintained but (pic) the floor in front of the urinal looked like something out of a horor movie...It was all nasty and cracked and it seemed there was a toilet there at one time....I can just imagine something coming out of the ground while you doing your business lol... they should have covered it up because that was a bit creepy!! Anyways definetely worth it to check out..just avoid the mens bathroom

Tried Tadashi for the first time & it was amazing! The portions were good for price. Their miso butterfish is bigger than most places, very sweet & rich in flavor. Love their pickled veggie sides and miso soup. Babe enjoyed his hamachi bowl. Service was great. Everyone was friendly and on top of it! Ambiance is relaxing. I like how they space out their tables so you have your own personal space. Nice, chill lunch or dinner spot. It's BYOB! Give them a try!

Came here on a Thursday night for my friend's birthday. There was a lot of parking and not too crowded. Tadashi is located at the Pearl Kai shopping center off of Kamehameha highway across from Pearlridge. I ordered the miso butterfish with shrimp tempura Teishoku and it was so delicious! I forgot to take a photo of my food since it looked so good i couldn't wait to dive in. This place makes the best butterfish on the island, a huge generous portion of ordering the miso butterfish teishoku The fish tastes so fresh and so good. Hot green tea is complimentary. My friend got the Shokado bento which was a Chef Selection of Sashimi, Butterfish, Teriyaki Chicken, Tempura, Soybean and Salmon Avocado Rol!, that was $50 but well worth it. Service was friendly and quick and great quiet place to talk story. If you want yummy Japanese food, this is the place to go to.

Decent Japanese at waimalu. Got the tempura and salmon combo. Both were tasty and the soba was nice. Place is spacious and staff friendly

Unfortunately, the quality of sushi has gone downhill.

We were seated right away with no reservations and the host informed us of the 90 min time limit.... We noticed the staff was rushing around to get ready as they just opened 10 mins prior. We ordered the Butterfish tempura teishoku with some salmon, ikura and hamachi nigiri. Also ordered a Chuu-toro tekka. We haven't been here in over one year and sadly the quality of sushi has gone way downhill. Found a bone in the Chuu-toro tekka so our server let the kitchen know and sent it back. Next, the ikura was not fresh so our server returned it. Salmon smelt fishy too. Hamachi was just ok. Rice was not prepared well either... no flavor and texture was quite hard. Butterfish was decent, but overall experience was 1 star. Service was not up to par and the food reflected the staffs lack of motivation. Needs major improvement.

It's a Friday night and came in at 5:00pm right when they opened. Shared parking with other businesses was a little challenging. There were some open tables left, as we were seated. They did stress on the 90 minute dining which already made us feel rushed. There were lot's of staff ready for the reservation guest. I haven't been here for awhile but I got to say the quality of food wasn't the same. We had a variety of nigiri and the rice just didn't measure up. It was a little hard with no taste. The Ikura was a little mushy and not fresh. Chuu-toro Tekka had a big bone in a little roll. We did return those items and they took it off the bill. The salmon nigiri had a fishy smell but it was just okay. On the otherhand, the butterfish was excellent. It was tasty and flavorful. But at that point we kind of lost our appetite, so we just took it home. Probably, it was just an off beat night.

Tadashi in Pearl Kai is one of those traditional, Japanese hidden gems in Pearl City that truly deserves more attention. The teishoku sets are a classic order and a great deal whenever you go to a Japanese restaurant. The portions are generous and come out in a parade of flavor with the multitude of small dishes that lead to the main event. My husband was especially pleased to find natto don on the menu, and is happy he found someplace he can come back to. What made our visit even more special was discovering that one of our servers from Kabuki is now working at Tadashi. It was such a delightful surprise to see her again, making it feel like a full-circle moment. Every birthday in the family, we would celebrate at Kabuki. How has it taken us so long to come to Tadashi? Don't be surprised if this is a staple for my family in the future. If you haven't been yet, make sure to check it out--you won't be disappointed!

Tadashi has the best miso butterfish on the island! Definitely order this if you come here, whether the appetizer or in the teshoku bento. The tempura is also great, not too thick breading and good sized portions of shrimp and veggies. Sushi is pretty good too, we enjoyed the hamachi and maguro nigiri, salmon was decent. Recommend you make reservations as this place gets busy at dinner. Wait staff was quick and didn't rush us, even though we were a big group taking several tables.

Definitely recommend making reservations but if they have space available, they will accommodate walk ins like us! We went for an early dinner around 5:30pm and was able to get a small table but it was packed. Friendly staff and excellent service but they are busy so definitely not a quick dinner type of place. I had the butterfish misoyaki and tempura teishoku to share with my daughter and it was delish! The meal came with some cold soba noodles, rice, and red miso soup. Hubby ordered the Hot Hawaiian Roll and the Hawaii Five O Roll. They were good but I enjoyed my meal a lot more. The chef also gave us some appetizers on the house which was delish! I think it was deep fried salmon with cucumber salad. Yum! It was on the pricier side but we enjoyed it! Lots of regulars with large groups.

Last time I ate here was super long time ago, pre-pandemic even and it wasn't good. Cant remember what I had last time. But this time the food was quite good. I got the Shokado Bento, which had pretty much a little of everything. I really enjoyed it. We were there for a friend's birthday. They had the miso butter fish. It was a big piece for them. Since it was a good experience, we'll start coming again.

I took my Dad here today for lunch for his bday. I got their Tonkatsu teishoku that comes with salad, rice, miso soup, and Japanese pickles. My hubby got their tempura udon set. My parents both got their New York steak set but my Dad got the combo with tempura. My parents wanted the Rib eye steaks but they ran out of that. My parents enjoyed their steaks. Service was good here. They do charge 3% fee if you use a credit card.

We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately. We ordered quickly and enjoyed lots of sushi. The restaurant was busy but not overwhelming. Staff were amazing and we enjoyed our meal.

If you know, you know... and part of me really wants to gatekeep this spot, but Mitch's Fish Market…read more& Sushi Bar deserves the hype. From the outside, it is a hole-in-the-wall, but don't let that fool you. This is by far the best sushi spot on Oʻahu. It is on the pricier side, but the quality and freshness make it well worth it. Everything we ordered was authentic, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. My favorite was the toro nigiri, rich and buttery, and it melts in your mouth. The service was great and I am already looking forward to my next visit!

There is something deeply confusing about Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar…read more Not bad confusing.Worse. Identity-crisis confusing. Because the fish?Excellent. Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

We almost always get the early bird special (4-6pm) and while the prices has gone up, it's still an awesome deal at $22.95. No upcharge regardless of which options you choose. Miso (shiro, or white) soup is Japan status smooth. Something come to appreciate when you get it in Hawaii. I had the Teri chicken and sashimi option. Delicious With miso soup, salad and tempura! Also filling. Comes with a bowl of rice, not sure if they refill since I don't usually finish mine so hubby gets it. He got the grilled saba and sashimi. Sashimi was very fresh (as always) and almost melt in your mouth good! Teri chicken was moist and tasty. Hubby said saba was good, not dry. Service was good, we were asked quickly if we wanted to order drinks and our food, and we were checked on several times. I decided to finally go out of my usual choices and try Ginza out. Ginza is located in the main ward building (the one with the theater), on the side, between Men's Warehouse and L&L. We got seated fairly quickly and was given water. Upon ordering we were also given edamame to nom on while we waited. We also decided to order two rolls, an AAB combo set to try a variety of things and fried calamari for food measure. We got: * Jen's Paradise: 9.7/10, heavily recommend. I was really craving sear salmon and it definitely helped to satisfy that craving. I didn't realize that the roll part itself ONLY has shrimp tempura within the nori (no crab salad, avo, etc). * Bomb: 8/10, clearly I lacked my reading comprehension skills this day because I didn't realize that this was baked... so when it came out and the entire roll was fully cooked I was heart broken. It tasted good, just not what I particular want at a sushi restaurant. * Chicken Karaage: 5/10. I do NOT recommend this. They remined me of mochiko chicken, but these were not very meaty or flavorful. * Fried Calamari: 10/10, fried to perfectly in my opinion, each piece was plump and delicious. * Miso Butterfish: 8.9/10, it was good, flaky and flavorful. Just not something I would order again, but it was good to try esp it is something they're supposedly known for. * Mixed Tempura: 10/10, yum I love mixed tempura, no notes, it was hot and crunchy. I would like to mention that our wait was quite long. I don't know why because they weren't like SUPER busy. It took 10-15 for us to get the miso soup and salad for the combo. +5 for the calamari, +5 for the first roll then a few minutes after for the rest. I feel like 15-20 minutes for our first actual item (calamari) to come is kind of crazy, it kept being brought to the wrong table (2-3 times). Our server apologized so its not a huge deal. Otherwise, I still enjoyed our experience. I would definitely come back again to try the rolls I would enjoy more (utilizing my reading skills a bit better LOL).
