Tadashi. (2.5 stars). The BF's appetite is insatiable... I can't say his choice in "food likes" always agrees with mine... but tonight he told me he was full since he didn't eat his lunch until 15:00. I said OK well I gotta eat so I'll try Tadashi. We arrive at Pearl Kai and I ask again if the BF will be eating and this time he says just a little!! I don't know why I bother asking him because he ate more than I did... haha... Plus if I ask him if he wants to try something he always says NO and then eats it!! MEN!!!! Go figure... So we enter Tadashi and are greeted with the infamous, "Irashaiimase"!! Followed by two guys gawking at us from the sushi bar. I felt a little awkward as I asked the server if we could sit at the sushi bar. She said YES so we proceeded to take our seats. The sushi chefs just glared down at us and the chefs looked quite impatient. After looking at the menu I ordered two things and stopped. The sushi chefs just glared at me and made my order. Then I decided to order a few more things and that's when they started to warm up to us and figure out we were there to eat!! I don't know if it was just a slow night but I definitely felt unwanted in the beginning... So here's what I ordered: -Tonkatsu -Ikura Nigiri -Hamachi and Chutoro Nigiri -Salmon Ikura Don -Rainbow Roll -Amaebi Tonkatsu. (3 stars). I think I'm spoiled by Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin [TGB]. The Tonkatsu at Tadashi wasn't bad but it wasn't crunchy and moist like TGB!! I have to say Tadashi's katsu sauce was tasty... and that's coming from someone who doesn't care for katsu sauce! Meh, I tried their Tonkotsu and I'm over it. Ikura Nigiri. (2 stars). Ikura - when fresh and of quality - tastes like the ocean just gave you a kiss! When the freshness and quality is questionable - tastes like a rotten clam just pissed in your mouth!! Sorry, this Ikura was awful!! Even Izakaya Kei's ikura is hands down better!! Hamachi and Chutoro. (2 stars). Thin slices of fish. Luke warm. I'm not sure if it was just me but the fish seemed almost like it was a bit turned?? I guess I'll know shortly... Salmon Ikura Don. (2 stars). Ugh a whole flipping bowl of rotten clam piss balls!!?? Oh great... I did what any smart woman would do!! I gave it to the BF who seemed to devour it! Yes ladies, when it comes to food I know I'm damn well not going to sacrifice my rental space in my stomach!! :) Rainbow Roll. (2 stars). Meh, the crab filling and the luke warm fish made for a very unappetizing bite for me... So what did I do?? Yup, you guessed it... the BF ate it. :) Amaebi. (3.5 stars). Shrimp was tasty. I love fried Amaebi heads! Nothing amazing but considering the rest of the stuff that got shoved to the BF's side... this was edible!! All in all, I would skip Tadashi unless someone convinced me they upped their game. For the dishes above it costs $120. Definitely not worth it to me!!! Izakaya Kei was better than this and it costs the same!! I'm glad I tried it but I left hungry and the BF left full!! Hmph... very unfair!! I have always loved this restaurant but honestly haven't been there for a while. My husband and I made a last minute decision to see if we could get a table. We were greeted immediately and they let us know they currently do not have servers so service may be slow (we've learned to have more patience and understanding since the pandemic started). We were ok with that so they took our temperatures and sat us at a table. The restaurant is as I remember, simple and clean, just with a lot less tables right now. They gave us time to look at the menu. They have some awesome teishoku specials right now (amazing deals!). I opted for the teriyaki chicken/tempura teishoku while my husband got the tonkatsu/tempura teishoku. We also order chuutoro tekka and butterfish ala carte. All the food came out pretty quickly and definitely did not disappoint. The butterfish has always been my favorite and that has not changed. I really have to thank the staff at Tadashi. Although they warned service may be slow, they were attentive, courteous, and efficient. They checked if we needed water or tea and cleared empty dishes regularly. I'm pretty impressed. The food was so good here. I was actually surprised. One of our favorite restaurants a couple doors down was closed so we decided to try Tadashi. I didn't know what to expect, but after our experience, I had to come and rate this a 4 star. The portion for the butterfish teshoku was so worth the $23+. It was a pretty big piece. My boyfriend and I ended up sharing it. Taste wise, it was delicious. It didn't have a lot of bones in it too so that was a plus. We also got a unagi and uni nigiri and mmm were those good too. I feel so short changed when I visit a restaurant with 4 stars & have a 2 star experience. I don't know the area well & we were out for a girls night. One of the gals saw this place on yelp so we decided to try it. We arrived around 6pm on a Sat. There were many empty tables but we were told the wait was 20 mins. We wandered around Pearl Kai to kill time & didn't keep track of time while we were chatting. Upon return we were seated. Service: - The waiter arrived shortly & notified us that there was a 1 hour wait for anything from the sushi bar! Uh wth??! There was a large party taking up a bunch of tables, but they were nearly finished & the restaurant was not packed. The greeter should have mentioned that when we put our name on the list for a table. - We placed our teishoku (nobody wanted to wait 1 hour for sushi/sashimi) orders. - Another person brought our orders & they arrived 2 at a time. There was a delay between the 1st 2 & last 2 (who happened to order tempura). - Our water cups were not refilled. - Our empty dishes were not cleared when the main courses were served. - They didn't appear short staffed because there were a few wait staff wandering about. Food: - Teishoku is served with Tsukemono, Soba, Daily Appetizer, Rice and Miso Soup. We were aware that all those items would be small plates. The Daily Appetizer was just another small plate & not a marinated butterfish item from the sushi bar as described by the waiter. - My miso butterfish was good. A kinda small portion for $23. - None of the other 3 gals commented on their dishes i.e. the tempura & salmon shioyaki were not worth mentioning. Ambiance: none. Strip mall dining that lacked decor. Tadashi is the best Japanese restaurant/ sushi bar in Aiea/ Pearl City. The owners are always so nice and gracious with all of our special requests. This establishment is located in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center and is a couple of doors away from Baskin Robbins. My husband and I love sitting at the sushi bar every time. They get really busy sometimes so there might be a wait but it won't be for a long time. We get a complimentary appetizer which is a salad with fish and their special dressing/ sauce to start with. We usually order their misoyaki butterfish which is one of my husbands favorite at this place. We also like to order their hamachi Kama which is so worth it because of the amount they give you. The owner and sushi chef Curtis is so awesome and quick to make our orders. If you like uni, you have to try their PB&J...it's heaven! It's basically uni, ikura, and is topped off with a quail egg...it's soooo yummy! Try their salmon (sake) also...mannnn oh mannn it just melts in your mouth! My wife flew back home from the mainland with her sister-in-law's (her brother's wife) mother and she stayed with us for a night. The following morning, reminiscent of a scene from Tom Hanks' movie "Bridge of Spies", my wife and I met with our "guest's" family at a "neutral" location (they mainly live in town so we figured Aiea/Pearl City was somewhere in between us) for what felt like a "prisoner exchange"...exchanging their mother for lunch, I suppose.. Tadashi seemed like a good "neutral" location, with positive reviews from Yelpers and ample parking. We didn't have reservations but it was a Saturday so the place wasn't all that busy. We were initially seated at a table for 5, only to find out there would be three more people joining our group so we had to move to a bigger table. Service was attentive and they didn't mind that we had to wait for over half an hour for the other two folks in our party. I ordered their Tonkatsu Teishoku ($16.95) and my wife ordered the Salmon Shioyaki ($18.50), both served with tsukemono, soba, rice and miso soup. The tonkatsu with the tonkatsu sauce had a nice crispy exterior and tender meat and both the soba and the miso soup were decent. My wife liked her salmon. Our appetizers and entree arrived way earlier than anyone else...so being polite diners, we waited for maybe close to 20 minutes before our fellow diners' meals were served. The time spent waiting for other diners to get their meals (they ordered mainly tempura with cold soba) seemed like an eternity and probably took away from a pleasurable dining experience, although the conversations flowed freely despite this minor annoyance. PROS: - Friendly and attentive service - Food quality and taste were good, not out of this world good, but good - Dining area was spacious CONS: - Dishes were not all served at the same time, or even close to the same time. My firm belief is that competent wait staff and chef/cooks would be able to time meals to arrive at diners' table at close to the same time to avoid having diners having to wait and risk not having meals consumed as soon as they are served.. - Felt the prices were a bit high...although we didn't pay for lunch. All in all, a decent meal but felt servers and cook staff need to coordinate and synchronize efforts for optimal dining experience. read more

The boyfriend and I recently met up with family friends here for dinner on a Saturday evening. My friend's mom made a reservation for 6 p.m. for our party of four, since it was a Saturday evening and the restaurant has a relatively small interior. The Pearl Kai shopping center is familiar to me, as I've dined at Ricado's and Kuru Kuru a number of times. But this was my first time at Tadashi's, and after our great experience, it certainly won't be my last. Service was good, even though the restaurant was busy, and I like the fact that they immediately give you piping hot cups of tea and keep it refilled during the evening. The tea was super hot--I had to wait a while until I could drink mine without burning my mouth--but it was soothing and delicious. Here's what our group ordered that evening: "Tadashi Roll": Our party of four ordered a roll to share, and we just ordered this one without avocado because my friend's mom doesn't like avocado. This roll was one of the signature items under the specialty rolls menu. It was a triangle-shaped roll with crab meat, avocado, cucumbers, salmon, cooked shrimp, radish sprouts, organic greens, sesame seeds and red tobiko. Talk about the works! This roll ended up being much larger in size--diameter--than I expected, but then again, it entailed a lot of ingredients. I couldn't fit the entire piece in my mouth with one bite. I really enjoyed all the flavors included -- especially the salmon, cooked shrimp and crab meat. The sauce that coated this roll was really good as well. I can see how this is one of Tadashi's signature rolls and I would definitely order it again. "Spicy Salmon": The boyfriend wasn't super hungry, so he just opted for this mini bowl for dinner. It featured one of the following--tuna, Hamachi or salmon--atop sushi rice and wasabi. Tadashi was out of tuna for the evening, so the boyfriend chose salmon and was still satisfied with his meal. He said the fish tasted fresh, and of course, nothing beats the taste of sushi rice. "Soft Shell Crab Salad": I hadn't been eating much greens lately, so I actually really wanted a salad and a side sushi roll for dinner. This salad included so many different elements and it was super flavorful; I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. It included deep-fried soft shell crab, fresh organic greens, crispy wontons strips, cucumbers, tomatoes and a sesame seed dressing. I feared I would run out of dressing for my salad (or out of the toppings in general), but I was pleasantly surprised but how generous the topping portions were. The crab was flavorful and the fried, battered exterior was super crispy. I really enjoyed the extra crunch from the wonton strips. My favorite part of this dish was probably the dressing -- it was light, creamy and flavorful, and I really enjoyed dousing all the fresh greens with it. "Butterfish": My friend's mom always orders this dish; it's her go-to from Tadashi. This entrée features broiled butterfish marinated in a sweet miso sauce; all teishokus are served with tsukemono, soba, a daily appetizer, rice and miso soup. The butterfish is a pretty good-sized portion, compared to that what I've seen at other Japanese restaurants. My friend's mom says she always enjoys the butterfish here because it's moist, fresh and flavorful. It definitely seemed tender and she was neatly diving into it with her chopsticks. "Tonkatsu": I had my eyes on this entrée but since I wasn't starving, I decided to order it another time. It's another option under the teishoku meals, and my friend's dad says he always gets this entrée. It features center cut pork tenderloin breaded in panko and served with a tangy tonkatsu sauce. The slab wasn't as big as the one I love from Shokudo, but it seemed well breaded and juicy (not dry at all). I can't wait to order this during a future visit. read more

I used to come here 2-3 times a week back in 2007-2014. It was my favorite sushi joint and a place where everyone knew my name and treated me so well. I was so excited to come back here since we moved back from San Diego and I'm happy to report that nothing has changed one bit. The same awesome sushi chefs are still here and the sushi still tastes the same- excellent! For old times sake, I ordered the same rolls as usual and they did not disappoint. The Tadashi Roll is huge and a little more on the fishy side. The Caterpillar Roll (my favorite) is generous with avocado on top. The Hot Hawaiian Roll is simple and packs enough heat, not too overwhelming. And I always order a side of Ebi. It's a simple little appetizer that I enjoy before the rolls roll in. The house hot sake is tasty but I wish the wine selection was bigger. All in all, I can't wait to go back again and again. I love this place so very much and I'm glad they remember me :) read more

I can't believe that I haven't written a review for this place! A couple of our friends and our cousins all wanted to have a lunch out since it's been awhile since we all got a chance to do so, since a couple of us had little ones to join or families. We were told from other people that it gets pretty busy here so making a reservation would be best. We did...and it wasn't necessary since it was for right when they opened, and it wasn't busy at all. But still thankful that we were able to make a reservation, just in case that wasn't the case. They have all sorts of food to choose from - nigiri, sashimi, rolls, udon. So many, that it was pretty hard to actually choose what we wanted to eat. My husband and I opted in a few rolls and we also got a udon for our eldest son, in case he didn't want any of the rolls. Food came out pretty quickly and they were pretty good, better than what we expected. The two servers that were working that afternoon was very patient and answered all questions that we had, regarding each roll and what not. Refilled our drinks accordingly, without having to be prompted. They even got a chance to play with the babies throughout lunch as well. read more

Only one table was occupied in the entire restaurant and they said if we didn't have reservations we could not get seated until 7:15!!! This has happened on several prior occasions. Ok, here is the deal, the service here at Tadashi is much to be desired. 1. My other waited at the door while there was at least 3 workers that saw her standing there. No one said a word until someone came out of the kitchen to find her a seat. Really, not even, just a second or someone will be right with you? 2. Our waitress was visibly upset or irritated about our asking if they could add extra noodles to our udon that we ordered and said "I think they are going to have to charge you the price of the kake udon". In my head I was like YOU THINK or YOU KNOW? Cause if she thinks it is, then she should go ask so we can do that or not. The kake udon was 7 bucks and usually extra noodles are about 2-3 bucks. Ok, if the service is bad, it already leaves a bad taste in my mouth. BUT here is the pluses... 1. Star 1....The food was good. The udon broth was delicious and so was the tonkatsu. The sides were good (pickled vegetables, miso soup, soba, and a seaweed salad). 2. Star 2....Another plus was that the tea/water/bus boys were attentive. After I opened the YELP app on my phone, it seemed everyone was a bit more attentive too. Ok, so my husband and I have came here before, but a it's been awhile, should have just went to izukaya instead.... Looked over menu, and order the chefs special choice of 6 premium types of sashimi....which was ur basic ahi, hamachi, tako, scallops, sake, and one other type nothing fancy for like 40 something bucks... Also ordered the small portion of Uni sashimi, I had one bite , and almost threw up, it had an awful taste to where it tasted really bad, not like the uni im used to where it's nice and sweet, We also ordered butterfish... super small for 20 something dollars... Service was mediocre....dishes for wasabi were dirty had to ask for clean ones cause the ones we originally had were sticking together.... For 115.00 for the small amount of food we ordered, I would have rather gone to Izakaya, few doors down.... This place isnt the same....I've had better sashimi at the pearl city zippys location.... Super disappointed... Sad to say this will be added to the list of restaurants we will probably no longer go to.... read more

My wonderful wife & I dined here this evening. The restaurant must've just opened for dinner service when we arrived. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't. However, we were sat immediately. This restaurant was recommended to me by a co-worker. I'm happy we came. The Sashimi IS AMAZEBALLS!!! The fish to rice ratio on the Nigiri's are truly impressive! Everything was absolutely fresh & superbly delicious. We had to get a 2nd order of Shake, Unagi, and the "melt-in-your-mouth" Hamachi UGH, SOOO GOOOOD ;-) Service was EXCELLENT, as well. Very attentive even when the room was busy. Everyone checked on us quite often and refilled our teas & waters. We we're thanked for stopping in by majority of all staff. Mahalo nui loa for an AMAZING dining experience!!! This restaurant was actually very good! We stopped in here because Kuru Kuru had too long of a wait. Now granted, this restaurant serves food other than just sushi. I actually was very indecisive about what to get...but then I ended up getting tanuki udon and spicy tuna. Tanuki udon, in case you aren't familiar is udon topped with tempura batter crunchies, no actual pieces of tempura. it's one of my most favoriete udon. Spicy tuna was not on the menu but I asked if I could get it and yes, you can! I'm not sure how many pieces it was but I think was 8! It seemed like so much more! Our server came by several times, to fill drinks, take the order, bring out food...and then every so ofen other people came by to refill our water and tea. They really should pay attention to eachother because two people stopped by one after the other trying to refill drinks that we didn't want refilled. But in any case, nice that you never run out of water here! I enjoyed my udon but the noodles were just slightly softer than I would like. (all about personal preference) Flavor was delish and tons of tempura flakes! Yummm.. I also really liked the spicy tuna sushi that I ordered! Every single customer that walked in they ask "Do you have reservations?" And everyone said NO. This place is a hole in wall place and far from being worthy to ask that. Cleanliness is not to be expected and service was sooo slow. No recommendations from a discouraged family with a child who was really hungry because of slow service and short handed. I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Tadashi's. Would of never stepped foot if I hadn't read the reviews on Yelp. Came in on a Friday evening with my bf, his dad and his kids. We got seated right away. The menu has a pretty wide range of your typical Japanese meals and dishes. They have tempura, udon, sushi, butterfish etc. Typically I'd ordered sushi but wasn't in the mood for that. I ordered the miso butterfish set meal which came with Japanese pickles, miso soup, hijiki, a small dish of soba and a bowl of rice. My miso butterfish was a pretty good size and cooked perfectly. My bf ordered the teriyaki chicken which you can't really go wrong with ordering but it was pretty good and came with a lot of pieces. His children enjoyed their meals as well and ate it right up. I'd recommend Tadashi if you're looking for decent Japanese food in Aiea. It's not like a super fancy restaurant so prices are reasonable. One of the few sushi bar and Japanese restaurants in Pearl City. Beautiful decor and atmosphere, great service, however, the quality of freshness for the sushi is just okay, especially for the price you pay. Most teishoku cost around $20-$25, but the portions are just decent. My hubby had the Tadashi roll, which is crab meat and salmon, it was good. I had the tempura teishoku, the breading on the shrimp and vegetables were very good, light and crispy. For the quality of sushi, I rather just go to Kuru Kuru down couple of doors. However, if you want a nice sit down dinner and sushi in this area, this would be the place to go. read more

Came here for lunch. It was just, ok. I ordered the Beef Sukiyaki and Tempura on the side. Both were ono. The taste was nothing over the top of ordinary. The beef in the sukiyaki was tough and thick. I'm used to the beef being sliced thin. Everyone else on the table had sushi. They have a wide selection and they all enjoyed what they picked out. My coworker had the misoyaki butterfish. Oh man! I love me some Tadashi! I took my beautiful bride there for dinner tonight in celebration of Valentine's Day. We were both very pleased with our outstanding meals. The food is really really good. The price is a little steep, but nowhere close to those fine dining Japanese places which Tadashi's food rivals. For $40 total, she got a huge portion of the best Grilled Butterfish and its complement of Teishoku fixin's, and I got the Sushi/Tempura/Udon Combo meal with a glass of wine. (see the pictures) We saved a little by getting there before 6pm. They offer a 10% discount to early diners. Another bonus: since it was Valentine's Day they gave us a tasty complementary dessert of fresh fruit over a green tea mousse. My one minor complaint: décor... and that could be fixed quickly and easily: Hello Tadashi, it's been almost three years! It's time to take down your multitude of tacky taped up signs decrying your "new" gratuity policy for parties of 6 or more! read more

My brother took me here for my birthday. Everything was sooooo fresh. The unagi nigiri were the biggest slices I've seen. The hamachi Kama was grilled and seasoned to perfection, so moist and meaty. Three large pieces of hamachi Kama? (Market priced $32) It was tender and juicy. Dipped in the ponzu and daikon made this dish even more delicious. A bowl of white rice and a glass of Orion complimented my dish very well. My friend's choice of the miso butterfish was also a worthy dish to order. We ordered a Tataki dish which was a decent cut of fish but there was way too much garlic. If you're a fan this cousin of the onion ( yes garlic belongs to the same family as the onion... I looked it up :) ) you will love this dish. We went on a Monday night and business was slow but the waiter Levi was attentive and very pleasant. It was occupied by local families who seemed to be enjoying the food and company. Yelp 100 Challenge #3/100 I went there on a weekday at 11:06 am for the first time. They just opened and there were a few parties seated. The area is pretty big and can accommodate a bunch of parties. All their tables seem to seat at least 4. My friend hadn't arrived, and the hostess let me know that I could sit at any of the tables. Once I was seated she asked if I would like water and tea. The menu had a lot of selections. I really was interested in the area where they had the chirashi and the butterfish. There was a separate menu for the nigiri. I went up to the chef which I later found out was the owner and another gentlemen was also was the owner behind the sushi bar. I asked what was good today and he politely let me know what fish came in today and some things I may be interested in trying. They mentioned a salmon that tasted better than king salmon. It was in the chirashi so I knew what I was going to order. I also asked where they get their uni and they let me know it was from Japan. Both of the sushi chefs were really polite and very excited to share with me what fish they had for the day. Before our food arrived we had some Japanese small dishes that were good. I did order some Uni and Ikura with quail egg. The Uni was pretty good and the Ikura was fresh. My Chirashi had big pieces of fish in it. Everything was very fresh and tasted great. The salmon the chef did recommend melted in my mouth and was excellent. My friend ordered the butterfish and it had such delicious flavor. It was very moist and not overcooked. We were looking at the dessert menu, but was so stuffed from the meal that we didn't get any. My friend mentioned that the green tea shave ice was good, so we inquired about it. The server mentioned that the shave ice machine was broken and mentioned that the eatery a few doors down had shave ice. We were talking and she mentioned that at least the other location can get some business too, which I felt came from sincerity and I thought that was nice. We both stayed till almost 2:30 pm (when they close for lunch) and at no time did we feel rushed or hurried. During this time our tea and water was filled up constantly. Service: From the time we came in to the time we left our tea and water was always filled. Once we paid for the check they still came by and asked if we needed anything else or more water and tea. Now that rarely happens when I'm eating out so that was great service. Also, our server was very knowledgable on the menu and helped answer our questions. Food: From the butterfish to the chirashi with the thick cuts of fish, we were happy with the food. Also the complimentary appetizers tasted great as well. Thank you for them too! Atmosphere: They had some music playing the background that was not intrusive and it was very laid back. Again, Japanese night. In search for a new Japanese restaurant near my location, I luckily stumbled across this one, and thank you to the fabulous Yelp app, I was introduced to one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. I have never been to Tadashi, so this was my first time. It's a very spacey restaurant. Keep in mind, the entrance door has a knob. Don't try to push it and open it the way I did, or else you'll look retarded LOL! Like many of you, I'm sure you are guilty at looking at other peoples reviews to see what catches your attention. As for me, I am constantly looking for new places to eat. What caught my eye about Tadashi was the butterfish. We were welcomed by a very nice man. The waiters there are nice and always check up on you, fill your waters ... Oh and complimentary tea! Awesome! :) Anyways, I went straight for the butterfish. It took a while for the food, but I understand because it was busy...but OMG! All of you who recommended butterfish is absolutely right! Best butterfish I have ever had, hands down. It was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of sauce drizzled over it. It tasted amazing and I fell in love. I tried to savor each tiny bite of it, and how sad it was for me to finish my dinner. Keep in mind that Tadashi is a little pricey, especially is you decide to get sushi (UNI) ... Hadn't been to Tadashi in a long time, but I just went there tonight with my family and the food is still delicious! We didn't have a reservation, but we got there around 5:30 and we were seated even though we had to be out of there by 6:30 before the reserved party arrived. We were seated and already knew what to order. Our food came out in ten minutes and we left the restaurant by 6:10. The service was quick and efficient. The butterfish teishoku (comes with miso soup, soba, and pickled vegetables) is still the best, albeit a bit more expensive since the last time I ate there. The shrimp and vegetable tempura is still a good choice. Tadashi still is one of the best Japanese restaurants on the island. I recommend putting in a reservation because it is a very busy restaurant. read more

My son and I were craving for sushi near home and wanted to try somewhere we haven't tried before... Other than being short staffed, my son and I enjoyed our first experience eating at this establishment...Not only are the staff friendly, they were also attentive and checked on us often... Great service, the servers are really friendly and helpful with recommendations. A little pricey, but worth the money! First time I tried uni and soft shelled crab and I was not disappointed. Everything was clean, fresh and good quality. The place from the outside looks a hole in the wall that might not be open because they blocked the windows and doors from the inside with white shades but once you walk in it's a nice private place that is definitely date night worthy! read more

Tadashi was empty when I arrived at around 6pm on a Wednesday. However, the parking lot was crowded. We found a small parking area behind Jiffy Lube that had a lot of parking. The service was excellent in the beginning. The only complaint I can make is that the food arrived too quickly. As a came closer to 7pm, service of the server diminished. Not only was it slow, but the different servers were talking to each other from across our table about schedules or table assignments. The sushi rolls were good. As far as my entree misoyaki butterfish, which was recommended by the server, left something to be desired. It was slightly burnt, had bones, and was stuck together. There was no melt in your mouth feeling, nor was it flavorful. I think Tadashi might have been rated 3.5 stars if had ordered something else. 3 stars because the service declined. read more

Getting there: Easy to find and lots of parking in Pearl Kai unless the mall is busy. Ambiance: Bright lights and comfortable, clean tables and chairs await. The sushi bar is fairly long, two-sided and off to the side of the main dining area. Japanese style tea cups and coasters go with this localized Japanese restaurant. Service: Tea levels always full with hot tea and all around good service. Food: Before getting to the items I ordered, two items on the sushi menu that I wanted to order weren't available. I find it odd when restaurants do that unless the place is packed or unexpectedly over-patronized on a given night. This was not one of those nights. The nigiri 2 piece Chu-toro was $9. Unfortunately I ordered the Dynamite specialty rolls that has mayo (not mentioned in the menu description) which I tend to avoid since I'm not a fan of the texture or flavor. For nearly $14 the roll itself has ten pieces which seemed generous but lacked seafood and was mostly filled by other ingredients. Finally a single spicy ahi roll was made with parsley or something which was unusual, and it was $6. Who to bring: Tables accommodate a large party easily, but beware the automatic 18% gratuity (and I believe I saw the sign say for parties of FOUR or more; weird because usually I see restaurants do that for parties of 6 or more, if at all). How much to bring: Depends on how much you order. If you go with one dish or a few ala carte sushi orders you can get by with less than 20 but more likely you will end up with much more. Verdict: Three stars for the food. Might be more enthused about it had I ordered other things which sounded appetizing, but barring the hypothetical I have to say that the biggest drawback is the price (-1 star). Final notes: I suggest you come with a party willing to spend money in order to sample multiple different types of sushi or if you're on a tight budget, go with one of the other meals that comes with sushi rather than trying to fill up on sushi alone. Without making direct comparisons to other restaurants, I think there are better options elsewhere if you want high quality sushi (not counting the conveyor belt sushi joints.) This place is amazing. I come here VERY often and I am never disappointed. Food: 5 Stars The pieces of raw fish are so thick, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth-delicious. The sushi rolls are large and so good. I recommend the spider roll or crunch roll. I got their butterfish teishoku on my last visit and like always, I wasn't disappointed. I also have tried their soft shell crab salad (the salad dressing is so appetizing), and the tempura teishoku. Parking: 5 Stars The lot is huge so it's easy to find a stall because even if it is packed at the Pearl Kai Shopping Center, they open up quickly. Price: 5 Stars The prices are reasonable for delicious Japanese food. You get what you pay for definitely. Service: 5 Stars They have great service. My water was refilled very often. The staff is very attentive and respectful. They are also very patient. I went with my three-year-old niece during my last minute and she is a handful, but the staff waited patiently as she calmed down while taking out order. Overall, you should try this place out.
