Stop whatever you're doing and run, don't walk, to this place and get yourself a quesabirria plate. They don't play here with the portions, and while it's definitely a little bit on the pricier end for a place such as this, they do pack on the meat and food well so it somewhat balances out. We spent roughly $100 for 4 people the other night with two orders of horchata and a plate to each person. It's a BYOB establishment which of course in my book makes this place even more of a gem. I was told by the person who recommended me this place that they have a patio which is lit! Down to come back in the summertime for that space. I came in with my wife and tried to grab a seat since nobody acknowledged us when we walked in. We were then stopped by Jessica the owner, and was asked if we had a reservation. We obviously said no, since there's literally nothing on their website that directs us to make a reservation. We were then given a table and placed our order soon after. The wife and I both had ordered their 3 Quesabirria tacos with consome. My wife asked for no onions on hers. What we received was 3 quesabirria tacos with onions and the other 3 tacos with no cheese and with onions as well. My wife didn't want to make a big deal about it, and didn't want to send them back, but it's still the small details that matter. I unfortunately did not notice that my tacos didn't have cheese until I was already finished. I was helping my wife finish her tacos and notices tasted better. Good thing I take pictures, because I immediately went back to my pictures and realized that there was no damn cheese in my tacos. Despite the weird question about having a reservation by the owner, even though I checked afterwards and didn't see anything anywhere about making reservations, and us not receiving our food he we ordered it, the rest of our meal wasn't bad. The tacos themselves were good. They didn't skimp on the meat, but you are also paying for it after all. The pricing is a little on the high side compared to other restaurants serving quesabirria tacos in the area. This place had a lot of hype, especially during covid, but it seems to have died down a little bit. I finally made it to Tacolan!!! My honey and I went to the Instagram famous taco spot located in Logan square neighborhood and had a blast. This cute, quaint spot is located on west Fullerton Ave in the heart of the Logan square community. There was a bit of a wait but not more than 10 min. Our waiter was awesome and very attentive. He ordered the birria torta dinner and I ordered a shrimp birria taco dinner. One thing about birria sandwiches/tacos, they are greasy so this is definitely a treat for once a month. My honey didn't care for the torta, primarily because he's not a fan of wet bread. I wish I'd known beforehand as birria meals come with a side of consomé. But the meat was undeniably flavorful and tender. I had their shrimp birria tacos and BABY!!!!!! They are always . You get (3) tacos per order with a side of beans and rice. The shrimp are huge and perfectly cooked....and filling. I was stuffed after one taco and took the leftovers home. FYI....the tortillas don't hold up well reheated but WHO CARES...the tacos are even better the next day. Check them out! And they have a patio of the street perfect for summertime Chi! The food took forever to come and they got the order wrong. Took the food back to take another 15 mins to bring back the right order. I asked multiple times for sides and each time was told we will bring it but never did. It's 18% gratuity regardless of party size. We ordered a to go separately which also took forever and they tried to charge gratuity on it I will not be coming back here for dine-in. I really wanted to like this place because I seen how famous it has become on social media. Maybe I visited on an off day but the quality of the meal wasn't what I had expected. The service and attention to our table was outstanding. The birria torta was my favorite item we ordered out of the 7 items. One thing I suggest is to level out all of your tables. Second time here - coming from Orlando. First time was so good, we had to come back a year later when in town again. First time we tried the birria tacos! Delicious. We keep comparing others in Orlando to these and they don't come close. Fresh guac & freshly fried tortilla chips were nice and crispy. This time I tried the asada sope and it was larger than I was expecting, which is always a good thing! Did need some salsa to give it extra flavor but I finished it no problem. An update since I didn't order the Quesabirria last time. I ordered the dinner and it came with rice and beans. I would say skip because the rice was ok the drier side while the beans was more beany if that makes sense. Also it was an extra $5 too. The dinner comes with 3 tacos and the sauce. You get complementary chips and salsa if you dine-in. Solid chips, the taste homemade. Salsa is good too, a bit spicy but has good flavor. I usually get the quesabirria dinner with two sides of rice but today I wanted to try something different. I got the birria platter. Steak birria, chicken birria, shrimp birria and regular beef birria. The chicken and steak birria were very good, the chicken might be my favorite after the regular beef birria. The shrimp birria was just okay. I don't think shrimp birria is for me, the textures just did not sit well with my stomach. The rice is amazing. Like, some of the best Mexican rice in the city. The hype is real ya'll, the viral TikTok birria ramen is definitely worth the try! Just a few things to keep in mind before visiting Tacotlan - 1. They're known for their birria tacos and they truly live up to their name (best in Chicago I've had so far). There are so many birria combo dishes that are also worth the try. The burrito is not to be slept on. 2. The drinks (specially the slushees) are out of this world. It adds such a fun token to the whole dining experience. They have a mini drink prep station at the back and you can see all the effort that goes into preparing these wild drinks. 3. The restaurant itself is SMALL - so if you're going there on a weekend, expect to wait. 4. Service is fast and super friendly. I ordered the birria ramen and the waitress mistook my identity for someone that can't handle spice (jokes on her, I'm Lebanese) but she warned me of the Tapatio soup pack and that it can make my ramen spicy. I found that adorable that she was just looking out. 5. The horchata is some of the best I've had in my life. It's not overly sweet and you can truly taste every aspect of it. You also get a refill for half price! 6. 18% gratuity is automatically added to your bill for dine-in (any party size) - there is an option to tip more if you're feeling generous. Our patio spot started off in an excellent spot with a super friendly server who went through the menu and gave us some great recommendations. I've been wanting to try Tacotlán forever and I'm really glad I finally did. Our server was amazing, probably the best service I've received in a restaurant my entire life. I wish I caught her name but she was very helpful and our food came out really quick as well. My friend got the torta and I got the Lalo's on the beach burrito bowl. The bowl had the most delicious shrimp both me and my friend had ever tasted, the steak was also perfect. I only wish my bowl had a little bit less lettuce and more rice but other than that it was amazing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! And the liquid goodness used for dipping was just right! What is this margarita inspired strawberry mocktail that you served me? It's Delicious and Refreshing!
