I have no idea about the food or the ambiance or the service. What I do know is that the owner closed the Maine location late last year and refused to pay his employees. He sent my daughter her 2nd to last check and it bounced. Then it took about a month to get one that did not. She has still not received her final paycheck after nearly 2 months and repeated emails. We filed a report with the Dept of Labor. This isn't a bankruptcy situation, the NH location is still open! The best thing Tacos y Tequila does is create ambience with Mexican dinners served in a gorgeous, casual and modern environment, right down to its dinnerware. The dinner service, however, is made a bit less illustrious with staff whose personalities are mostly invisible. The food is good, yet out of 3 times dining there, I've never raved over a single thing I've eaten or thought about coming back for a dish. The presentation of their drinks and food, however, is impressive. The enchiladas and pineapple rice are good. The margaritas are good. Authentic and well-crafted. The lunch special prices look great and more affordable. I would like to try them and experience the day-time service. We sat down and there was a new server who was training and her trainer was very, very rude to her. I honestly felt bad for our training server... she was taking our orders very slowly because she wanted to make sure that she wrote them down accurately. I ordered last and I ordered fish tacos with the sauce on the side and at this point, the waitress that was training the new server was so fed up with her trainee that she ended up being the one writing down our order. I watched the experienced server write down "sauce on side". When my tacos came out, they were covered in sauce and the experienced server blamed it all on her trainee!!! So unprofessional especially because the training server was SO nervous. I tried to eat it with the sauce so that I wouldn't make the new server's night any worse but I just couldn't do it so I had to ask them to remake it (side note: the chipotle sauce is sooo gross...) The fish tacos were absolutely disgusting. I am not picky, but it honestly tasted like slimy rotten fish gut paste that was deep fried and I couldn't even finish the first taco not to mention there was a hair on one of them, but I was too embarrassed to say anything with already having to get new tacos because my order came out wrong. I just ate the tortillas instead haha. My sister ordered a burrito bowl with guac on it and they forgot the guac and we had to ask for it and my sister's friend ordered a beer with dinner and they brought out my husband's beer and my sister's drink but they forgot our friends beer and he had to ask for it again after our food had already come out. Also my sister said her margarita just tasted like juice. At this point, it was just comical and we asked for a straw and salt and it took them like 15 minutes to bring us a straw and salt and when they handed us the salt shaker, it was just the icing on the cake that the salt that they use in the salt shaker doesn't fit through the salt shaker holes (and they're the type of salt shakers that you can't open). We were just laughing at how horrible the experience was and it honestly made for a very entertaining night. P.s. if for some reason the girl who was being trained as a server is reading this: please find a job where they value you more. The server training you was so rude and short with you when you were just trying your best and I know you can find a job where you are more appreciated for trying your best. read more

Came here yesterday for a 12-person reservation made a day prior. The hostess, a short-haired brunette with dense lash clusters, a septum piercing, and an egregious attitude, told us, "There aren't any tables here for 12 people." We explained that we had made a reservation the day before. She rolled her eyes and indignantly told us, "Well I didn't take your reservation, so I don't know. We have no tables." They had overbooked. Asked to speak to the manager, and he refused to come out. I was a restaurant host for nearly four years. This behavior would have gotten me fired; one can only hope this hostess meets that fate, although the management is so abysmal that they might just enforce this sort of conduct during employee onboarding. Offering reservations that can't be honored is a dishonest and impermissible business practice. If you expect decent service or basic competency, I suggest you walk further down Lebanon Street to Jewel of India like I did. read more

The ground beef was probably the worst I've ever had. It tasted like it had been in the steam table all day and did not have good flavor. The Mexican rice was crunchy and not tender. The refried beans were reconstituted bagged or canned beans. The Barbacoa taco was not authentic. It was made out of brisket or something. The tortilla was dry and the meat was dry. The onions that were on top of the taco were cut probably a week ago. The salsa was OK, but it wasn't really authentic.The chili relleno taste it like it was made from a mix as well, and not with egg whites and flour and baking powder like it should be. The enchilada sauce was absolutely horrible. As a professional chef who grew up in Texas and lived in southern California this would probably be the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my entire life. The chips were warm and just OK. Even the Coke that I had did not taste right. Their mix was off so it was putting out too much syrup thus in increasing their cost of goods and decreasing the quality. At $125 per bib. They are probably losing at least 6% in profit or so because of this. I had to wave down the bartender to even get a drink. The ground beef burrito was nothing but ground beef rolled in a flour tortilla, and then covered with that nasty enchilada sauce that comes from a can. I told the bartender in Spanish that the food was not good and she just shrugged her shoulders And told me I am so sorry. She went on to say that she won't even eat there. It's a good location. It's cute and it seemed clean, but the food was absolutely not good. If you're just needing some rice and beans with maybe a chicken quesadilla or a quick steak taco, I could see stopping in here but do not order ground beef. TnT has these unicorn $10 margaritas and incredibly they actually taste pretty good. Ambiance is casual + cozy, with fast service and wood-resin river tables ill-equipped for daily dozing of tequila and sugar. Warm and colorful lighting adds a nice vibe and native speaking servers and staff add an oft-overlooked air of authenticity to this destination. Mole su poblano and guacamole was not the best I've had, but uniquely spicy and far better than expected for a college town. Prior reviews comparing free salsa to Prego spaghetti sauce are ill-informed: spaghetti sauce isn't spicy and was never delivered for free unless you're auditioning for a live action Lady and the Tramp show starring human beings with more skills in complaining about free food than Yelping about The Bachelor, Paw Patrol Edition. So what does that all have to do with TnT Cliff? Absolutely nothing so keep the focus on tasty $10 margs, friendly service, and entrees far better than any college town taco joint should offer. read more

Food is really good. Service, not fantastic. If you have somewhere else to be after lunch, best to go somewhere else. For a (very) leisurely lunch, the food was worth the wait. My boyfriend had the taco salad, and said it was the best he ever had. I had shrimp tacos, really delicious. Loved the lighting inside, and the large windows up front provided a nice view of passersby while we waited for our orders. I enjoyed the meal, but wasn't blown away by the service. Beware: If you're from or in the Upper Valley, steer clear of Tacos Y Tequila! I would rate my experience at a flat zero. We are locals that have some favorite places but figured we would try out a new spot last night. For starters, I called from Sunday last weekend through last Tuesday and kept getting "the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable", which was the first red flag and is still the message if you call today, by the way. I went to their fb page and they don't have messenger set up. I was finally able to find an email address so I inquired about a reservation for last night at 7. They responded relatively quickly and confirmed a reservation was available and booked. Reservation confirmation said to plan for not more than 90 minutes which was great. We arrived early at 6:50 and sat at the bar waiting for the rest of our party, which showed up right at 7. We stood up and said we were ready for our reservation. We had to flag someone down to get our table. Many people working there running around (literally at times) but none asking how they could help. We got to our table finally and ordered our drinks. We had to flag down the waitress to bring us menus after some time went by. We ordered apps right away and needed a minute to peruse the menu. Again, we had to flag down the waitress to order and she was hesitant to take our order. Mind you, it's now around 725 or so. At 7:40 still no food and asked if we could get another round of drinks. We were told "no", there's a private party coming in. We could have water... what??? Still no food a few minutes later and no drinks, we opted to leave. Clearly, they needed us out for their private party. We paid our bill and left. We went to Gusanos instead, which never disappoints. When we got there, we were advised it was busy and only two people waiting tables. They sat us, were friendly as always, had drinks within 5 minutes and had an overall great experience! Highly recommend Gusanos! Plus, they support locals with a punch card and send out discounts when the card is full. They also have the best margaritas around! John & the rest of the crew are just awesome people! I never give negative reviews but was really bothered by the first experience. So, I emailed Tacos Y Tequila to let them know how displeased I was, with lots of details. They reasoned within about 15 mins. Instead of an apology, the email was riddled with accusations of us being late and refusing to order, and ended with them saying " And yes, do us a favor and stick to Gusanos, your business it not welcome with us." I was blown away! All I was looking for was an apology or maybe acknowledging that they probably should have emailed me to reschedule to a better time or date. If the owner or manager had taken the time to actually look at cameras, they would see that everything I said was true. I truly believe in trying to resolve with the business first, but they offered zero accountability and then took it a step further across a line that I'm not ok with! Avoid business with them, they clearly don't care about repeat or local business. They should focus more on customer experience and maybe pay their phone bill or figure out what's actually going on. Also, "cheese dip" was runny like milk and drinks (that we were allowed to have) were subpar. If you want an authentic Mexican experience, go to Gusanos in Lebanon, NH or Casa Jaliscos in Claremont, NH. Both places are welcoming, friendly, efficient, and have excellent cuisine! read more

Food is good but service is insanely slow. One time I just sat through it, and the second time I got up and left. The waiter brought us water and complimentary chips and salsa, and then didn't come back to take our food orders for over 20 minutes. Every time we flagged him down he would say "give me a minute" and go back to the kitchen. There were only 3-4 other parties in the restaurant but it looked like he was the only server working. I get that short staffing can be an issue sometimes, but the wait time was frankly ridiculous. It was neither a busy time (we went at maybe 2pm) nor a full restaurant. The one time I did sit and eat, the food was pretty good. Nothing outstanding, but good. Portion sizes were big and prices were reasonable. There's a lot of windows, which makes the restaurant feel nice and open and bright. Really wish service was faster--if it was I would definitely go back. I tried Tacos Y Tequila for the first time with two friends who have been before. One of the newest restaurants in the 3 Lebanon Street building in Hanover, the interior has a nice atmosphere and it became more busy as the night went on. We received fresh tortilla chips and salsa for the table but the salsa had entirely too much of a tomato taste. Think of a jar of Ragu pasta sauce with a few onions added in. This is the first time (confirmed by my friends that have dined here multiple times before and have tried to order it) that the tableside guacamole was available. Unfortunately, the avocados were over-ripe this time so it wasn't the best and it wasn't prepared tableside. I ordered the pina loka, which was green peppers, onions, pineapple chunks, steak, chicken, and cheese sauce served in a carved-out pineapple. While the quantity was large, it was completely different from its description on the menu: there were no red bell peppers, beans, pico, or sour cream, ALL of which were listed as being included in the meal. This was an expensive meal to not receive in its entirety. What was there was pretty dry and I had a couple gristley pieces of steak. Plus I only got two small flour tortillas. Only two! I've seen restaurants give four, even three, but never just two tortillas. On the plus side, they have an extensive drink menu and our waitress was friendly. Overall, Tacos Y Tequila was over-priced for food that was just poor to average in taste. Considering I didn't even get the complete meal I ordered, I will not be returning and would caution others to make sure everything arrives on their plate that should be there. read more

Thank goodness we were with friends and able to entertain ourselves for the 45 min wait to get our first drink. And we had sent people to check with server and make sure she hadn't forgotten to submit the order. Our server seemed to be the one making our drinks behind the bar in between waiting on tables??? I ordered chili rellanos and did not enjoy them. I had to dig through a lot of breading and crazy amount of melted queso to find the poblano peppers. Instead of the light and fresh meal I was anticipating it was a greasy gooey mess. The rice and beans looked great on the plates but were not very flavorful. I love cheese as much or more than the next person but this was too much. I will note that those who got the Tex /mex burritos greatly enjoyed their meals. Needless to say, after arriving for 6:30 reservation and still there waiting for 2nd drinks at 8:30, we were in rush to get check and had a big laugh about 'who wants to order dessert? Nooooooooo!. My wife and I were passing through town and stopped in for lunch. The place/atmosphere look great, but that's about all it had going for it. We ordered 3 street tacos and a chimichanga. With more empty tables than not, it took over 35 minutes to get our food and a table that was seated well after us received their meals first. As for the flavor, there really wasn't much. I only rate this three stars on the basis of consistency. When Tacos & Tequila is at its best, they far exceed a three-star rating. My first visit was amazing. I enjoyed a chicken chimichanga that was absolutely great. The chicken was very tender. I was very excited to have my peers try the following week however the quality had slipped. The meats were pretty dry, unfortunately. I will be returning, but I hope to see consistency around the board. Also, a very common remark I have heard regarding the salsa and somewhat agree with is that it tastes like marinara. I think the salsa certainly could use some more depth. Wow. Pretty bad. It's probably my fault for trying a Mexican place in New Hampshire. The salsa on the table tastes like it has oregano... It's more of a marinara. It's a zero out of ten for spiciness. I tried two other salsas (arbol and tomatillo) and I have to say they were maybe a 1 out of 10. Considering all chili peppers originated in Mexico, this is a poor representation of Mexican food. However, I understand maybe it's designed for New England taste buds. They felt sorry for us and made us a chile toreada. It wasn't fully cooked and needed salt, but unfortunately it was the best thing we ate. The coconut Mojito was excellent. That pulled it up a star. I'm not sure it had any rum though. Service was slow. I ordered a chile relleno that never came. Apparently they were out of stock. That happens. I ordered a margarita that never came either. I know they had those in stock. It took a long time to get my check... They were trying to figure out how to remove the missing margarita. I went to Tacos y Tequila with my teammates and was very underwhelmed. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa, which was something we all agreed to. I ordered the mango ceviche, which was more mango and tomato than anything with very few pieces of shrimp. The chile was also so overpowering and I have a considerable spice tolerance. It made it difficult to even try to enjoy the final bites of the ceviche. It was also served on a plate which was just a curious choice to me - whenever I have had ceviche in central/latin America, it is served in a bowl for ease of eating. All of my friends were equally underwhelmed with their dishes, and I found the service to be quite slow. The food was not terrible don't get me wrong, the drinks are fine, but it was definitely overall a subpar experience. read more
