Went to this restaurant because of some folks we knew had gone there and had a good experience. However, I would say our experience for the cost of the meal was certainly less than ideal. We had to return our drinks because they weren't made even remotely correct and the food came out tinged or overcooked whichever way you wanna look at it. The food came out very quickly as well. Food: Overall it was fine, nothing special and nothing outright bad. Confit duck wings appetizer (special) - good texture and flavor, came with 7 pieces, the accompanying ?jam was interesting but was too thick to dip wings in and had to be eaten separately with a fork, was tasty though so would recommend Cod fish tacos - the rub on the tacos was overly salty but it was perfectly cooked and the rest of the taco elements were very tasty and overall was balanced apart from the overly salty fish. Hot honey fried chicken sandwich - Had just a bite of my partner's and it was a good bite although the chicken was a bit tough Value - 1 app, 2 entrees, and 1 beer came out to ~$66, portions were just right Overall had a decent dining experience but the off-putting smell and just okay food doesn't make us want to come back. read more

Millstone is a popular restaurant in New London. We have been here several times and when it's good, it's really awesome. But it's not consistently good. Case in point: we're here for brunch. I ordered the Quiche and my spouse ordered the Eggs Benedict. The kitchen sent a quiche and the eggs flatbread. Quickly changed but it's shades of our first time here when we were forgotten altogether for almost an hour. Having said that, the waitress noticed that and quickly made it right. Once the glitch was straightened out, the food was delicious the quiche was definitely fresh and soft. The Eggs Benedict were also superb with a well made Hollandaise. Presentation was great for both. Our waitress was superb and service was excellent and courteous. Have visited this restaurant in the past with reasonably good experiences, but this visit (23 October 24) was a disaster. After being seated it took about 20 minutes before our order was taken. It appeared that one waitress was trying to handle the whole place. Management seems to have neglected their staffing responsibilities. Food, when it finally came, was barely room temperature and quickly turned cold. Waitress was apologetic about the long wait times, but that did nothing to improve the poor quality of the meal. This experience convinced us it is time to take advantage of other opportunities in the area. read more

This used to be a restaurant I loved to hate. Bad food (bland and gloppy), indifferent service without any ambiance , full of cranky old people. Then they got a new chef and voila, excellent food , kind and efficient service , and although the restaurant looks the same, it just seems more inviting. Our dinner at the Millstone was excellent. The food was prepared perfectly and the waitstaff was friendly and available when needed.

We picked up "to go." No delivery. My mother and youngest sister ordered hamburgers and were pleased with all. My other sister and I ordered the 74 greens salad-delicious! BUT while my sister's salmon filet was delicious and a good size. My added protein was the shrimp. While tasty the shrimp were medium-sized and cost an additional $12 for four. It had been a few years since my last visit. Reservations were made at open table. Indoor and outdoor dining. We sat in the back and that was amazing. Huge wine list. Limited cocktail menu but it's full bar so you can ask for anything. The ahi tuna app was delicious. The spinach dip also delicious. I had the gyro. Not impressed. More veggie to meat ratio and I did not like the bread. It wasn't really bad but I would not get it again. Nice dessert menu. 4/5 only because our waitress had 0 personality. In the neighborhood for impromptu romantic getaway and decided to try the local cuisine. We arrived at around 4:45pm and the hostess checked her reservation list and obliged us with a table. It appears this place books up on reservations early in the day (this was in Mid March and still pretty much ski season). So early timing was lucky. We were given a cozy nook of a table right near the bar which was fine for us since we weren't exactly dressed to impress. The offerings were what I would considered "upscale pub food" and prices were commiserate to that. So when in Rome... as they say .. we opted for the very upscale Lobster poutine. Being with a Canadian, this was a pretty risky choice! The huge pile of shoestring fries came out in a lobster bisque type gravy with medium chunks of lobster and hefty amount of melted curd cheese. The Canadian was blown away with the twist on poutine and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Since the appetizer was heavy, we opted for a lighter fare for dinner - I chose the yellow fish tuna poke bowl and the Canadian choose the salad with steak tips. (Any of the salad options you can add a protein such as steak, chicken, shrimp for an extra charge). Absolutely loved the poke bowl - the tuna was dressed with a light yet tangy sauce! Steak tips on the salad were cooked to perfection. As we were finishing up our meal, a musician was setting up and the tables were getting ready for the evening rush. What a huge disappointment. We've eaten here several times with varying experiences. We sat for an hour before our first course. My gazpacho had a nasty aftertaste. perhaps, the olive oil was old? The Cohoes salmon, the restaurant evening special, was vile. The fish was dried out and sat in an oily base of stewed tomatoes and capers (?). I couldn't finish it. My wife ordered the same dish and her's was equally inedible. Our guest order mussels which came with, of all things, a bed of soggy French fries. What an amazingly stupid combo. The fries were goo. It'll be a while before we go back... maybe when they get a new chef. There are so few upscale restaurants in our area, so it's a disappointment when the one we thought was dependable, wasn't. I'm not going say what I think; I'll let you infer what I think by sharing my experience, completely objectively: - I made a reservation for a "standard table" via Open Table - My wife and I arrive and are seated at a high table near the bar - not a standard table - After dusting off the crumbs to this fully-made table, we wait nearly 15 minutes for someone to arrive at our table - We politely ask our server if we can be moved to an actual table, like I had reserved. (My wife is short and high tables are uncomfortable for her). We are seated outside, which is nice. - We order, and our food arrives shortly thereafter. - After serving us, our waitress asks if there's anything else we need; I request a refill of water, my only drink. - The "crispy" rice noodles in my lettuce wraps are so hard they are impossible to chew, so I set most of them aside. - Ten minutes after completing my meal, our waitress arrives and asks if I'd like a refill of water. I politely explain that I needed the refill twenty minutes ago, when she had first asked me. (At no point during the entire meal did she or anyone stop by our table to see if we needed anything.) She apologizes and explains that they are short-staffed - which, of course, if the standard excuse every restaurant seems to give. - We pay the bill, leave our server 20%, and decide we are never going back again. read more

Two of us had dinner on August 3. My haddock dish was tasteless (the string beans and harissa were fine) . My partner's entree, crab and cod cake, tasted okay, but was missing the crab part --no evidence of crab could be detected. The accompanying string beans and some unidentifed vegetable (scallions?) were burnt and inedible. The quality of the dishes certainly did not justify the price. The most charitable way to put the matter is to say "Someone in the kitchen was distracted." Re-reading my positive review from 8/6/2017 makes me wonder what's happened to this restaurant. read more

Dining out here for the first time in many years, we were pleasantly surprised at the updates to the decor and the delicious meals. Service was pleasant, thorough, but obscure and not interruptive. What a delightful little gem. Took a long drive for my husband's birthday and stumbled upon the restaurant via Yelp. We were immediately greeted by a gregarious duo . Jean and Aaron allowed us to pick whichever table we would like to be seated. Unfortunately our first choice of Lamb chops were sold out but opted for the steak tips. I don't usually choose red meat but something told me to give them a try and they were cooked to perfection. My husband had their French onion soup which he said was amazing. My husband and I decided to give 74 Main a try for our long awaited date night. Sadly, we were left wanting more. The food was mediocre but would have considered it acceptable if not for the extremely slow and odd service. Servers appeared to be simply switching tables on and off which seemed to cause confusion which resulted in an initial delay of service. Our server spoke minimally, appeared confused and apathetic with no real desire to "earn" a quality tip whatsoever. She failed to even check on us once outside of taking the order. As a fellow restaurant person it pains me to leave 3 stars but there is a lot of room for improvement and I think the feedback is necessary to make some positive changes. read more

Getting back to normal! Delicious, relaxed and overall enjoyable experience last night. Last time we were there, we had drinks and apps outside, which was nice. With the rain, we were inside at the bar and it was great! Friendly server.. always a good start:) My date and I shared lobster roll w/slaw and fries... I've been to this restaurant before, and it's been good. Today it was terrible! I recommended that a group of six of us go. The eggs Benedict was cold and the hollandaise sauce was more like a paste that had little flavor. My mother's fish tacos were loaded with sauce that was extremely salty my sister got the quiche special, there was no egg in it. I'm not kidding when I say there was no egg in it. Don't often give 3 stars & am bummed when it's due.... The menu here falls short. My husband & I looked at it for a good 10 minutes and couldn't find anything we really wanted to order so we settled for the corn chowder, the flatbread of the day, and the Smoked Turkey Sandwich.... It took about 15 minutes for the chowder & flatbread to come out. The chowder was ok. A little watery & missed seafood. The flatbread looked like something that would be microwaved. It tasted ok. When we received the Smoked Turkey Sandwich we were pleasantly surprised of how tasty it was. It definitely made up for our first two picks. The atmosphere was clean & reminded us of a hotels restaurant. The hostess & our waitress were very quiet & barely said a word to us. Not that we minded. Maybe we came in at a bad time. read more

My wife and I dined here for the first time a little over a week ago. The hostess was short and not very friendly, only greeting us with "Do you have a reservation?!" She brought us to a booth, where we were greeted by Eliza, a beautiful, smiling waitress who happily engaged in conversation with us about her future plans while asking us about our hobbies and taking great care of us! She was quick to make sure that our water glasses stayed full, quick to replace our cocktails (made by the great bartender Jen), and brought out our food promptly Tbe atmosphere of the restaurant seemed hectic- the brown haired waitress with glasses next to us was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, making it difficult to enjoy our meal We were delighted to have Eliza, who remained calm, cool, and collected. First, the restaurant is now called 74 Main. Second, our experience there was disappointing on several important levels, and if Yelp allowed it, we'd give the restaurant a rating of 1.5 stars. Instead, we're being a tad generous with two. Our issues had to do with food and service. First, we ordered a Mojito for a pre-dinner beverage. Twelve minutes later (no kidding!), our waitress appeared to announce the bartender had never heard of the drink but was reading a book and consulting with servers and would have it ready soon. When the drink finally arrived, it wasn't bad, a concoction of Barcardi and soda, but it really wasn't a Mojito. Oh well .... The service was erratic. Our waitress disappeared for long periods, and we were served by someone who appeared to be a manager. There were delays. The food was of mixed quality. The beef carpaccio appetizer was delicious, the chicken wings tasty. But the snapper was seriously overcooked and tasteless, and the "crispy potato cakes" were soggy and difficult to cut even with a knife. The dessert, a chocolate mousse pie, was good, but the chocolate sauce would have been much better served warm than refrigerated. We liked the attractive interior with booths and small table lights, but we found way too many problems with service and food to recommend 74 Main. read more

I have been here many times. My daughter calls it fancy. Food is upscale. I have had great and occasionally ok meals here. Service is good. Beer is very expensive. My child's cheeseburger was huge. The Caesar salad is incredible. We had the beef satay app that was also great. The rib-eye steak was cut a little thin. When you are paying north of $30 for a steak you expect a good size piece of meat. We will be back to explore more menu options. read more

This place deserves 5 stars for it's placement in mid-state NH, almost in the middle of nowhere. I have been here for several great dinners with my lovely grandmother. Jackpot! You get hot freshly made (can you say homemade?) bread with butter before your meal arrives. The food is inventive and fun - I had the lamb lollipops for an appetizer then tried the cornish game hen with saffron risorro.
