On the corner of COLORADO and ROSEMEAD, at Lucky's Carwash, the little yellow truck stared right at us and beckoned us to come over, order from it, and eat it. While we couldn't eat the truck, the TACOS themselves were pretty good. I ordered the Carnitas and the ASADA. I liked the flavor of the asada more than the carnitas. There were only 2 containers of green sauces put out. Both were pretty good. Boyfriend ordered a beef BURRITO. I didn't like the burrito as much as I liked the tacos. It had a strange mushroom-y taste. I know...makes no sense. Now that I really look at the title of this place, I think I should've gone for a Pollo Taco instead. The SERVICE was kind of disappointing. Our order took a looooooooong time to prepare! I know there's like, only 3 people or so inside the truck preparing mind blowing tacos, but yikes! If you like spicy man the super hot sauce ridiculously yummy just the perfect amount of heat to burn your tongue and intestines. For a good price of $6 I got a steak burrito with no beans. The burrito was skinner than I anticipated but it was nicely wrapped and is probably one of the cleanest made burrito I've encountered. After spending a cool five minutes chatting it up with some fellow taco truck goers and admiring but loading it up with the condiments I took my baby burrito to go. I came for the LENGUA SPECIFICALLY that's all I eat. First off the prices are a bit high $2.00 for "Lengua" Tacos and $7 for a Burrito (which was okay in size" we got 2 burritos & 2 tacos and a coke that came out to $20. The Lengua was not good at all, didn't even taste one bit like Lengua, hardly had any flavor but I couldn't make the flavor of it and whatever meat they gave me was over cooked. The rice was tasty & the beans were good. I was real happy with that order. The quesadilla with carne asada was also quite good. It was real tasty. The cheese was good and that well seasoned meat was a perfect addition to it. Both the burrito and the quesadilla were $5 each. Not cheap but it was worth it to me. The salsas (both red and green) are good. They have plastic containers so you can pack a salsa or 2 for the road. I liked the green one better and went with that on my burrito. It really complimented the flavors perfectly. The guys that work there are super cool... Even though I asked for no cilantro, they still asked me if I wanted cilantro on the side. They gave me diced onions & lime on the side. I never even asked for it but it was great on my burrito. Good folks running that truck. We will be back again and often. They stay open late, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, so it's a great spot to stop for a midnight snack. The tacos are meaty, hot, and tasty. The various meats were tender and richly flavorful. I was picking up an Uber Eats order and to let the cashier know that I was there, one of the other workers yelled out "mayate", which is a derogatory term for black people. Obviously he assumed I didn't understand what he said. Which is a ridiculous assumption in the LA area. Tacos El Pollo opens at 6 pm, which sucks because what if I want a torta for lunch? I ordered two tortas, one carne asada and one al pastor, and lengua quesadilla. I judge a taco spot based on how good their carne asada and al pastor is. The carne asada torta was out of this world. The meat had a smoky flavor and there was avocado inside which was an amazingly pleasant surprise. The al pastor torta was decent, but not amazing. The lengua quesadilla was so so good! The cheese was delicious and there was so much more meat inside then I expected. I also ordered a horchata, after having a bad experience in high school with an horchata, this was my first time having it in a while so I had no expectations going in. We just ordered tacos from here through postmates... It's pretty cut and dry, you pick taco or burrito etc., and choose meat. There is no way to pick hot sauce. We usually just order at the truck. Felt lazy and for that our order was bad enough we might not go back. I put in the comments which sauces we wanted and ended up with bad guac sauce. The pollo was much better than average and not dry at all, but I would have liked it a little bit juicier I think. The Pastor didn't have any pineapple chips in it but appeared to have been cut off a spit. The chorizo was kind of a letdown. Overall though we both really enjoyed our food from this truck. Pro Tip #2: Be ready for the extra's here! Not only do they have tubs of salsa, guac, cilantro, and onions... they also let you grab some free grilled peppers, carmalized onions, and/or beans! Honestly all of these trimmings were pretty tasty and there was a nice lil spicy taste to the salsa. It wasn't hot by any means, but it was a nice lil taste bud surprise. So dissapointed, i heard good things about these guys and now i don't think my friends and i will ever go back. Here are some points about my first visit to Tacos El Pollo: Parking: It is parked at a car wash place on the southwest corner of Rosemead and Colorado. Personally, I enjoyed the asada the best. Since there were so many tacos on my plate, I felt like they all tasted the same after awhile, especially with their variety of salsas! Oh my, I asked the gentlemen to have 2 of each salsas, assuming they only had 1-2 types, but boy I was wrong. He kindly started handed me each type of salsa and I was overwhelmed and apologized because salsa variety for one taco truck is abnormal. LOL Each salsa was amazing, but I preferred the avocado salsa. It is one of their salsas that isn't too spicy, but has a pleasurable hint of a spicy guacamole. All tacos come with complimentary cilantro, onions, limes, lemons, and radishes. Overall: Since my review touched upon the salsa with delight, I would recommend Tacos El Pollo to my fellow salsa lovers. I would like to bring up that I did try each taco without salsa and each one of the them went beyond my expectations.
