I was greeted warmly by the staff upon arrival. The inside of the dining area was clean and cute. I stopped in for a breakfast burrito on my way through town, but could see this being a nice place for dinner too. I ordered an asada breakfast burrito, it was just the right size for me and priced approximately. Every bite was packed with flavor. If I was local to the area, I could see it quickly becoming a favorite breakfast spot. The green chili in the burrito was that good. And the cook on the asada was some of the best I've had recently! read more

Found this lil gem on a whim... We stopped at this tacqueria while in town for work... I knew it was going to be good when we walked in to be the only "gringos" in the restaurant. My intuition was dead on as TEM was fire... Small but specialized menu, excellent tacos, friendly service, and clean restaurant. Worth the stop when in the area. read more

One of the better taco spots and luckily not too far from my house. I had asada quesadilla which was plentiful for the price you pay. Friendly service and fast. Another thing I wish they did was label their sauces so we'd know the heat. One thing I don't like is when a discount is offered but because the manager isn't there they can't complete it for you. read more

This place has been my go-to, but lately they have really fallen off the horse. Got a Lengua burrito and I swear, I touched the burrito and it was cold to the touch. Beans were cold, cheese was stone cold, and overall a bad burrito. Real shame from the burritos I would have here months ago. read more

This place is the best authentic Mexican food I've had in Denver. This being said the sauces are way too spicy for me personally but all of my friends really enjoy them. I love the pescado taco or the pescado burrito. That is my go to! My meat eater friends really like the quesa birria. They have Agua Fresca's and a large parking lot! We visit here quite frequently as the food is amazing! read more

Smallest portions ever. Don't ask for any sour cream as its watery and they charge for it too.

My go to item here is their breakfast burritos. They're available from 8 am - 12 pm everyday. They already have a very minor kick of spice to it if you're not too into spicy food. I like to add their green salsa for extra spice and flavor. Their red salsa is the spiciest but the flavor of that red salsa isn't the best. What I like to do is mix it with the green salsa so I can get that extra spicy that I'm looking for and also a nice flavor of salsa from the green. They have a variety of salsa at their salsa bar. What I wish they had was cilantro, onion, and lemon at the bar as well that you can grab extra of. read more

Coming from LA, standards for Mexican food are probably pretty high. This was pretty good! Like 85% of the quality you can get in SoCal! Service was nice and friendly, and good atmosphere with the Latin music blasting over the speakers. Would probably take off a half star if I could just because the prices are a little high and the salsa bar was tiny and hard to scoop what you want. Great overall though! read more

Great food!! Service was good too. The menu is kind of limited we came to try the poblano/cheese tacos and they were good (maybe a little too much cheese) the poblano flavor was a little lost in all the cheese. But the food was delicious extremely flavorful I cannot wait to come back!! The line was constant and the patrons were happy. read more

Visited El Metate last night. Since my first visit and review , the food and selection has become so good, that it's a Goat in the neighborhood. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Great menu selection. The food is prepared and presented with care. They also serve alcoholic drinks if you're in the mood. Gets very busy around 6pm. Lots of to go business . Limited seating. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Pretty good food, I had the asada burrito burrito. Large burrito and not bad flavor I think there are better asada burritos in the area. I think I will go back and try there tacos which looked really good, severs were friendly and food came verily quickly. The had a nice looking salsa bar, but no containers to get, so had to but directly on food. The restaurant seemed very nice inside. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night with a few girlfriends. They have plenty of seating so we ordered to eat there. The food was delicious and honestly rivaled some of the Mexican food I have eating all my life while living in LA. My The only issue was the food (two tacos took over 25 minutes. My friends said that wasn't normal and normally it takes around 10 minutes. I come to this area a lot so I will give it another go and hopefully don't have to wait as long. I really enjoyed the barbacoa and pollo taco's I had and am looking forward to trying more things on the menu. Overall 3.5/5 stars read more

Delicious food, fast and friendly service, casual vibes. This place is so great that It's oddly hard to say more!! (But I will!) They have a large menu with great options. I am a taco girly so I am always getting their tacos. Every now and then I get carne asada fries, but they never miss. An agua fresca is also mandatory for me and any of them are great! read more

Food and service is always fantastic here! I've never had a taco I didn't like... Recently discovered they have pretty good breakfast burritos as well. A little heavy on the potatoes but still tasty! And such a cute little space, bright, and open! read more

There are few places that I catch myself returning to over and over again, and this is probably my number 1! I have been here at minimum once a month for the last year and the food is consistently fresh and flavorful. The vegan tacos and vegan and gluten free, but I add cheese to them. The roasted jalapeños that you can grab by the salsa bar add even more flavor to the meal. I recommend the salsa verde that is a yellow green color with the jalapeños on your tacos! The burritos are MASSIVE and my spouse can't stop ordering the barbacoa. You could easily make one burrito into two meals. The cucumber agua Fresca is my absolute favorite that I have tried, and is the perfect post hike hydration. I do recommend ordering online if you are in a rush on a weekend evening as they can become incredibly busy and table space is hard to come by- for a good reason!! read more

Taco in point first time here and I will be back very friendly and got 4 taco mix each one up chile was good hot and tasty.

This is a great restaurant. The restaurant is clean and the ambience is really cool. I like the menu written on the black chalk board with all of the different ways a person can order tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and anything else. The staff is really kind and nice. They have excellent customer service. I enjoy the salsa bar. The first time I went, I ordered the Carne Asada burrito with no beans. I did not get a receipt so I had to guess what number I was because they were busy and I accidentally grabbed someone's burrito because it had beans in it. The quality of the burrito was still good even with the beans. The second time I went, I ordered the Carne Asada quesadilla. It was seasoned so well and delicious. This is definitely the Mexican restaurant. I will frequent in Aurora. read more

I went to Metate for lunch again today--on a bank holiday with unlimited time to go further. There aren't many reasons I brave the city of Aurora's civil engineers' sadistic I-225 crossings. They resemble the Great Wall of China, keeping Denverites at bay. Metate is worth enduring the fecklessly timed traffic lights on 6th, Alameda, and Mississippi. But I digress. My last review here came several years ago. This place deserves another star. While the asada, pastor, carnitas, barbacoa, and shrimp tacos can't lose, new items have been on my plate lately. The menu's expanded nicely. Two weeks ago, enchiladas verdes came Mexican-style w asadero and verde sauce. No green chile, No yellow cheese. Just delicious. Today, birria tacos took sabroso to new heights. Birria is trendy and found all over the Metro. I can't say I've had better. Five Front Range stars for overall taste, quality, and friendly/efficient service. read more

The food was absolutely phenomenal! Even on a bustling Saturday night with a line to the door, the staff moved with impressive efficiency and took our order quickly. I ordered tacos de lengua, tripas, asada, and carnitas from El Mátete--and wow, they did not disappoint! Every meat was packed with flavor, especially the lengua and tripas--tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I'll definitely be coming back for more and the lady's are super sweet. read more

This is the second time we have come to Tacos El Metate and unfortunately we did not have as good of an experience this time as we did on our first visit. Last time we went with a quesadilla...this time we decided to try their asada fries. They were very busy on a Sunday at lunchtime and it took quite a while for our food to come out compared to others, but we figured it was because of the french fries as opposed to basic street tacos. However, after getting our fries we were confused as to why it took so long. At first the presentation was nice and we were excited. After taking our first few bites however, we realized that the fries were very undercooked, it was swimming in a not-so-flavorful cheese sauce which didn't help the texture of the fries at all, and there was not nearly enough asada to offset the ocean of cheese. It is rare that we don't just power thru and eat our meal...but neither myself or my son could bring ourselves to eat more than half the basket...and that was with us starving and sharing. I'm not sure if we will be back anytime soon, and if we do go back, we will make sure to just get safer choice of street tacos. read more

We've been on the hunt for amazing tacos. So far, federal and alameda wins. This place is good, but I wouldn't come back because I do not live close by. The Birria tacos are bland and a hard pass, pretty disappointed. The barbacoa were really good and would get those again. If I ever did come back, I would try the menudo and fish tacos. I was also disappointed the cashier didn't have any recommendations when we asked. Like just tell us the most popular items. That was also disappointing. I would rank this place a solid 3.5 stars. read more

Let me start by saying this place does have some good food , Tonight, they fell short , and for me really shows that although you're spending hard earned money - some businesses , like this one, don't not value their customers. I spent $100 , and one of my buche tacos was just disgusting, to the point that I gagged and spit it out, it tasted off and as someone who eats buche regularly it shouldn't have tasted the way it did. We kindly asked the cashier if there was anything that could be done and she went into the back to speak to whomever was in charge . The solution - nothing , too bad so sad & in to the trash it went . My point here is the principal; to attempt to make things right when theirs something wrong with the community that keeps your business afloat . keep my $3, it wasn't a big deal to make it a big deal .They obviously need the three dollars more than me. read more

I've been going to this place over the past 6-7 years and it has progressively gotten worse and I was sure to take pics before throwing my food away. Whenever I've gone, I've ordered the same items (either Carne asada fries, with shredded cheese not nacho; camaron tacos or asada tacos). I can't even tell you how disappointed I am. The fries were limp, so either undercooked or an old batch of fries that they had sitting. The tacos were literally cold. I let them know the time of pickup (25 minutes out), but the food had been so cold, it seemed like it was made immediately with stuff that had already been cooked. I had a feeling I should've just cooked, but this will be my last time. I had a meeting scheduled for here next week and I can't have my name attached to this experience. Please get it together, y'all. read more

Super good place. Huge fan of their food. It's a tad but in the pricier side but they don't skimp on meat at all. So overall, yes it was worth it. Place is relatively clean and service is quick and friendly. It can get pretty busy during the dinner rush so keep that in mind. They have a self serve salsa bar but they used the tiniest ramekins for it which makes no sense. Their soft drink machine was also broken so that sucked. Overall would absolutely go back. read more

I visit this place frequently and have recommended it to many. However, I must express my dissatisfaction after my visit today. My Carne Asada fries were cold and dry, despite ordering a side of cheese. When I approached the staff to address the issue, my sister-in-law exhibited a confrontational attitude instead of offering a solution. This is the second time I've encountered this behavior from her. Customers deserve to receive high-quality food and service in exchange for their money. It's essential to respect and appreciate everyone who chooses to patronize your establishment. I urge you to reconsider your approach to customer service. Never experienced this when I purchase food after five. However the cashier was friendly. read more
