This place was recommended to me by a friend. My wife and I went and honestly, after being disappointed with the quality and price of tortas throughout Denver, this place was a breath of fresh air. Great quality and flavor at reasonable prices. Service was good and the location was clean and inviting. I got the super Cubano and it was tasty but a bit dry. I like my tortas a bit wetter, not ahogadas but with a good amount of homemade salsa on the inside. Other than that I think the quality to value ratio was dead on. If this place had a salsa bar, It would have easily earned all five stars from me. I will definitely be coming here again to get my torta fix regardless. Las Tortugas has several locations in the Denver Metro area and finally had the opportunity to try the location on Parker & Peoria. I had the Hawaiana, which has ham, pork chop, pineapple and oaxaca cheese. It also comes with avocado, refried beans, tomatoes, onions, mayo and choice of chipotle sauce or jalapenos. I had the chipotle sauce as jalapenos can have a bit of heat or a ton (I like some spice but don't enjoy when my mouth is on fire) The bread is baked for each of their locations. The sandwich was delicious and filling. The space is smaller than the location on Monaco. It does have some tables to eat at and restrooms for customers only (they will give you the code). Las Tortugas makes a very solid Torta. I will come back again for breakfast, lunch or dinner. read more

Service here is wonderful. They are very attentive (not overbearing) and when I asked about a menu item the description by the waiter was detailed and helpful. The food was flavorful (I had the guac but added salt) and a plate of carne asada burrito. WOW - the flavor of the carne asada was out of this world. I was unimpressed by the rice and beans but does anyone really go for that anyway? I DO think it should be noted that they charge for every single condiment. Even sour cream for a burrito which is odd to me. The salsa and cabbage they set out at the beginning is fresh and flavorful. I would go back for other menu items, nothing was exceptional except the meat (maybe try another dish with the carne asada?) something to consider before going to Las Tortugas is that sometimes the workers get the order wrong. unfortunately today that happened to me. i asked for tacos of a certain kind and I also asked for another order of tacos of a certain kind, they end up giving me two orders of the same kind. I realized that when I had already gotten home unfortunately. so I go back and try to get a refund and they said "we don't do refunds" i said okay well can you at least change my tacos to the ones I asked for? and they said they couldn't even do that either. Honestly I would be content ordering a bean only Torta; sadly my Torta arrived with no beans. :-( what's a Torta without beans?!? Lame Also I ordered the Chorizo Torta and got one with like ham, sausages, and that breaded skirt steak. It was ok. I'm not over the moon about any of those proteins (hence why I didn't order that one) but it wasn't the end of the world. All order mistakes aside; it was ok. Not great, not terrible. The chips and salsa are BAD, just say no. The tacos were decent, but I'm a huge fan of traditional Mexican food, so I requested corn tortillas. Then found out they also had corn tortilla chips with a different salsa!!! Go that way, it was good. The tacos were awesome, but the cheese was wrong. Ordered 2 Gueras and 2 strawberry waters. They forgot 1 of the sandwiches but rushed a second one when they realized. The strawberry waters lack flavor, it is literally frozen strawberries and water. The sandwiches are mostly bread and it seemed a bit stale. The chicken. Is rubbery probably from being precooked and reheated on the griddle. I ate the avocado and the cheese out of the sandwich. This place is amazing along with the other Las Tortugas locations. About this one in particular I love the super friendly service and very courteous staff. The place is great, the price is right and the food, second to none. The location is very accessible, on the corner of Parker Rd and Peoria street, in Aurora, on the edge with Denver. Truly Mexican. This is not a regular restaurant but an inside-street taco stand sort of. So no waiters, no hostesses you place your order, pay for that and just seat in the available table with high chairs. The menu is very extensive and have funny names for each sandwich , called tortas. They are huge. Food is prepared in front of everyone so you know your torta will be handled properly. All good is well seasoned and the prices are too affordable. They also have fruit drinks, made to order, much better and healthier that the sodas, but they have sodas too if that's your thing. Fruit shakes? No problem, they will be prepared for you as you place your order. The staff, fully bilingual, courteous and friendly. Be nice and leave a tip. This is still a restaurant, not a fast food outlet. They work hard for the money. The place is extremely clean, not loud and great atmosphere. But if you can't dine-in, you can order take out, even better, they offer delivery. Check the pricing and conditions, but still, affordable. In the Mexican culture, tortas take place instead of the American burgers, and that's a big staple of the Mexican culture, not only the tacos. You'll be delighted to taste their food and you'll keep coming back for more. I've been in this location several times but Yelp says this is my first check in, not accurate. So I can say this is a place for comfort food that I can recommend. My favorite is the pierna and queso torta (shredded pork leg meat with cheese). They are always super nice and the tortas are made to order, so it does take a little longer than your normal "fast food" place. I had the skirt steak, leg, and 3 cheese torta. As Denverites, we are blessed with multiple locations of the Mexican sandwich vendor Las Tortugas. The one closest to me is at Parker/Peoria and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to fill you in on the delights you can expect to find there. The sandwiches - oops, excuse me! - I of course mean *tortas* at Las Tortugas are piled high with a bevy of fixings and each come with your choice of sliced jalapeños or chipotle sauce (you can't really go wrong with either in my opinion). My all-time favorite, La Camelia, features no less than four meats (ham, steak, pork and hot dogs) and two cheeses (the Oaxacan string cheese called Quesillo and the soft, multi-purpose white cheese known as Queso Fresco). But if that seems a little excessive, fret not - you can order tortas with just one meat and one cheese, or a couple of each, or... well, you see my point. Other add-ons I've enjoyed on my visits have included juicy chicken, lightly spicy chorizo sausage, and fried eggs (my mouth is watering, people), so those are a few more ideas for you to consider. Oh and before I forget, each torta also comes with onion, avocado, tomato, mayonnaise and some refried beans thrown in for free! But in fact, these stacked (and that's a fact) wonders are not Las Tortugas' only claim to fame. Another draw is the selection of waters, juices and milkshakes made with impeccably fresh fruit. In the first category, one of my popular faves is the Agua Loca which enables you to taste pineapple, strawberry and orange in a single cup! If that's not quite what you were dreaming of, how about the equally-healthy Vampiro juice bursting with beet, celery, carrot and orange? If instead you were looking to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours, a papaya, banana, or chocolate shake is sure to fill that void quite nicely. And indeed, I haven't mentioned the dessert options available here. How does a set of four fruits of your choice (topped with either granola and honey or lime and chile powder) sound? Maybe you'd prefer the Chocoflan with its layers of chocolate cake and eggy custard? At LT you've got plenty of options, so hurry up and get over there already. read more

I just indulged on a breakfast torta from Las Tortugas, and my belly is happy. The menu is varied-- if you've been to any of the other Tortugas locations, it has the same menu. It was just before 10 on a Saturday, so when the woman at the counter heard I wanted breakfast, she pointed out the breakfast options, and mentioned that we could customize the other tortas by adding an egg. I loved that flexibility, but I ordered the Lambada that already comes with egg, pulled pork leg, and chorizo. This sandwich was big enough to split. My dad ate half, and although I was sad about that at first, I don't know how I could have eaten much more than I did. The bread is thick, and after it is heated on the griddle, it's left with a crunchy outside even though the middle stays soft. All tortas come with Mayo, avocado and jalapeño peppers or chipotle sauce. My only regret is not ordering an agua fresca. The one thing that could have made the meal perfect was a fresh juice. I already want to go back. This location is a bit obscure, but it is really clean and sleek inside, the service was awesome, and the tortas are in competition to be the best in town. read more

I've never been treated so disrespectful as I was when I placed my order online with this restaurant. I called and asked if my order was ready she said yes come. I show up at the restaurant and she said oh it was canceled not her problem, but they had already deducted the money off of my card, so I asked to speak to the manager. Girl was more interested in eating her lunch then trying to help me once she got a manager on the phone and the manager said that the tablet or online or whatever has not been working for over a week and then not her problem call my bank. Tried this place out because I had never had the pleasure of trying a Mexican style sandwich, and I gotta say it was a very nice experience. The sandwiches themselves are about the price you you pay for a large at subway but oh so much better with slabs of ingredients compared to subways handful. Though you dont get to customize it like at some other places, the sandwiches themselves are tasty enough to not need additional input from the customer unless you have specific dietary needs. I really HATE to write a bad review but I had a terrible experience here. I was starving on my way home from work so I figured I'd order online. I was 20 minutes away and it said my order would be ready around 30 I didn't mind waiting for 10- 15 minutes of i arrived early. I get there and the employee forgot to put in or print my order or something because she said "omg I forgot about online orders" I said you know what thats fine Im already here. I waited for 30 minutes and watched people get their food before me when they clearly got there after I ordered as they were ordering when I arrived. She gives me two bottles of coke and I say I didn't order that she said I did so I was like ok fine I-guess I did. She hands me a Flan because I'm assuming she felt bad about messing up my order. She gives me the wrong order and has to take it back. When she gave me the right one she basically took away all the other stuff she gave me and said yeah you didn't order that. I was like yeah I know and left. I paid extra money for extra tomatoes and jalapeño which I didn't get and my food was cold. When I tried to eat it the cheese was as hard as plastic I overall hated everything about it. She didn't even try to rush my order I waited a total of an hour and 20 minutes for my food. read more

Ever since moving back to Denver, I've lamented that we now live a lot farther away from Las Tortas than we used to. Then, while returning from the Cherry Creek dog park the other weekend, E and I took notice of Las Tortugas, which we've somehow managed to overlook for the last two years even though it's right around the corner from our house. How?! We went in around 3pm on a Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner. I ordered off the Tortas Super Especiales list - double milanesa (breaded steak) and cheese. Yum! All the tortas come with the traditional fixin's - refried beans, avocado, onion, tomato, and mayonesa. This one was very similar to my favorite "Nortena" torta at Las Tortas - while Las Tortugas has a Nortena variety, it has chorizo, which I didn't need but sounds tasty! :) I ordered my sandwich with house-pickled jalapenos, which in the end was a very bad idea! Overall, I absolutely LOVED the crunch, spice, and acid they added to my sandwich, the spiciness ended up making my stomach SO upset that I was miserable for the rest of the day. Lesson learned! We will definitely be back, since the Hawaina (pork chop, pineapple, Oaxaca cheese) is already calling my name. I also like that for a set price, you can build your own 2-, 3- or 4-ingredient torta not on the pre-built list. If you're a torta lover, I think you'll really appreciate Las Tortugas! read more

What restaurant doesn't even offer to fix a messed up order, straight up refuses to make reparations and YELLS AT THE CUSTOMER who was trying to be nice by offering to pick up a replacement, when they put something that wasn't even listed in the torta that the customer is ALLERGIC TO?? This was a Build Your Own order, meaning ONLY put the ingredients specified and NOTHING ELSE because ALLERGIES. Absolutely can not eat because of allergies and they won't give any refund or discount or even just replace it!! If you have any allergies don't trust your money here. I've tried this place a few times, most recently for their break burritos. The entire breakfast burrito was just a bunch of greasy french fries with a couple pieces of bacon.
