We were in Aurora for a conference and made a reservation for four at this wonderful restaurant. Service, ambiance, food choices, food quality and freshness, and full bar options were absolutely outstanding. We sampled multiple tequilas (and fell in love with Maestro) and had a great time catching up over dinner: quesabirrias, mole de pollo, carne asada, and the El Meson special (grilled steak, bacon-wrapped shrimp in traditional chile relleno with rice and beans). We had no idea this place even existed behind UCHeath Anschutz hospital! The ambience is clean, classy, and inviting, the staff was super friendly, and the food and house margarita were great. We went for lunch so we were able to find parking but I could see where that might be problematic in the evening. When looking for Mexican food, the number of choices can be overwhelming and the results often disappointing. So, we ordered from El Meson with trepidation, but our fears were unfounded. The food was seasoned perfectly without being overly salty or spicy, and the meat was super tender. A good test for me is the chili relleno burrito, and this one was among the best. The elotes was delicious, as well. For families - the kids loved the tenders and fries, and the options were reasonably priced. All around 5 star experience. Next time we'll be dining in. read more

Our go to place for some good Mexican food! They always welcome us with big smiles and warmth. The staff are very attentive and we just love going there. The environment and ambiance is inviting and they have a nice bar area with TVs for those sports enthusiast. Our usual is the steak fajitas. MmMMM!!! We had the pleasure of meeting Miss Liz. She is warm, inviting and friendly. Her staff resonate her same welcoming warmth. They are very attentive and professional. The food is outstanding and prepared to be visually appealing. We had the salsa and chips for an appetizer to start. The salsa is fresh. The salsa has some heat for sure. It's very good. I had fried flour chicken tacos. My son had corn carnitas tacos. They were fresh, hot and ready to eat. Lastly we finished our meal off with splitting the flan. It was so good! We had the nicest server, she is really sweet and helpful, she always make sure our drinks are refilled. We came from San Diego where the Mexican food is really good and this place is almost as good. It's not really authentic but they are as good. I love their crispy chili relleno with rice and beans. My wife has the shrimp taco and she loves it but the salsa that came with the taco, she said that the salsa is a bit on a salty side and she use the salsa that go with the chips. My problem is with the dessert the tres leches is too sweet, the milk that they use tasted like condensed milk and not evaporated milk. My wife and I ate at El Meson de Liz twice in the last three days. The first night, I had a three enchilada plate with flan. Tonight, I had El Meson Special (steak, bacon wrapped shrimp, and poblano pepper). Both meals were excellent. My dinner tonight was one of the most delicious meals that I have had in years. Service was prompt and the portions were ample. My wife's chimichanga was excellent as well. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and quiet enough to enable conversations. Our waitress was great but her assistant was snobbish, the place is over priced and underrated I got pozole with fat and no meat for $20 hardly any garnishments and wanted to charge for extra the beef burrito $13 was literally meat one spoon full and tortilla with a pinch of tomatoes and lettuce. We landed at the Denver airport and looked for a nearby place to have lunch. This was definitely the best place! It's in a very cute multi use area that has apartments and condos as well as restaurants. The food was incredibly authentic. Best Pozole I've had. The salsa was much better than the basic red salsa.
