I've been to this taco place many times. I can only speak to their breakfast burritos, but they are outstanding. Food - 4/5; I guess I'm being a little picky here. The breakfast burritos are great, but not exceptional in any way. Salsa bar - 5/5 Price - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Decor - 4/5; the seating is limited. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend giving it a try. Trying their lunch/dinner is definitely on my to-do list. read more

Stopped by Taco River and tried their Al Pastor, Steak, and Barbacoa tacos all were solid choices! The barbacoa was incredibly flavorful, soft, and delicious, easily my favorite of the three. The steak tasted freshly grilled and was marinated really well, and the al pastor was tasty too, with just the right amount of seasoning. Prices are very reasonable, and I love that they have a salsa bar with a wide array of options, so you can customize your tacos just how you like them. Overall, a great spot for good tacos without breaking the bank. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

We stopped in because of the walkable location in comparison to the hospital and one option that seemed open on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't packed but there was a steady stream of customers eating in and grabbing to go. I loved the salsa bar! And the smothered burritos we ordered were big enough to be shared. I had asada (pretty good) and my partner had al pastor (really good). The guac tasted super fresh and the portion was very generous. So good we went back the next day for just the regular burrito. read more

Don't come during the normal meal time rush; if you aren't brown enough these ladies will make your food AFTER everyone else that shows up and orders AFTER you and their birria tacos not worth the wait. read more

The driest, flavorless Mexican food I've ever had. Everyone ranting and raving clearly has the munchies! Even Viva Burrito is better. I waited almost 15 minutes for cold, dry, bland food. They weren't busy and it's almost like they made me wait to make it seem as though the food was fresh. I'm a pull over and eat person, not a take it to eat at home. Plus I was starving. I will not be back. I don't know who they're making food for but it is not even good Americanized Mexican food and I would not recommend. So sad I loveeee Mexican food but this was just flat out disgusting, respectfully. They charged me for green chile on the asada fries and then didn't even give it. They were all playing around and not focused. They're way better options. read more

I've driven by this place scores of times, hungry but in a hurry with no time. This morning I had time, so, channeling Mr. Keating from Dead Poets Society, I seized the day. The menu presents a dizzying array of choices. I picked three tacos. Carne Con Papa: This had barely recognizable pork chunks with potatoes and green chile. Close your eyes for this one--it tastes great, but the pork defines "mystery meat" on visual inspection. It could be anything. Chile Rojo: This was the best of all, featuring pork in a formidable red chile sauce with beans (and, of course, an avalanche of cilantro/onion). Asada: They're not shy with the cilantro and onions, maybe because the middling asada gets covered up. Not bad, but nothing special. Both chile sauces were among my Denver favorites. Three stars for this chain masquerading as a hole in the wall. If I return, it's gordita time! read more

Awful!!! I work right by here and always see a sign that says Homemade Tortillas so I decided to try. They basically just have tacos and gorditas and added Asada Fries recently. When I ordered I asked the guy if taco plate came with flour or corn tortilla tacos and he looked at me weird and said I don't understand I said again are tacos corn or flour tortillas? He said corn of course because flour would be weird....ok. I'm from Texas and we eat flour tortillas tacos everywhere. I thought rude of him to say that. I also got the Gordita in flour and it was too tough and thick pocket. If you've never had a Gordita it's like a pita pocket filled with Meat cheese and Beans. Okay. Okay. This place does not look like much on the outside, or the inside - but the food. The food is great. I had an Asada Gordita, and it was GREAT! They have a few salsas to choose from - I grabbed the green smooth one, I have no idea what it was, but it was delicious. I need to know what it is... We also grabbed some tacos, and they were really good too. This place is one of those "hole-in-the-wall" type of places - and that is a compliment because those places are few and far between. Dude behind the counter was really friendly, and the lady was nice too. The kitchen banter is done right in front of you while you eat. Which just adds to the whole experience. My 5 star rating of this restaurant comes from the happiness I felt while paying less than 6 dollars for two breakfast burritos. I really was smiling ear to ear while handing my credit card over to the sweet young man at the register. I'm always happy to spend my money at family-owned establishments, but I knew I'd be back to this one even before my bank was notified of the pending charge. I didn't need to taste the burrito to know it was delicious... I don't even care if that makes sense, but I'm pretty sure you get it. Anyone who spends time around the Anschutz campus surely knows about La Peoria. I'd never been before they closed, and it was only after hearing (unconfirmed) rumors about how taco River is just a renamed version of La Peoria, I'm beginning to understand what all the fuss was about. Delicious burrito, family vibes, great price... the only thing I can't brag about yet are the gorditas. They are featured on the menu a ton, so I've just got to take one for the team and go back before the week is up. read more

Boom! Came here a few weeks ago after an appointment at UC Health. Got the Asada and Pollo tacos. Delicious. Then I had yet another appointment at UC Health and came and got an Asada Gordita and it was also extremely delicious. They make the gorditas in-house which was fun to watch them make from the glass counter looking into the kitchen. There is a salsa bar with all kinds of spicy wonders. I tried the HOLY SHIT ITS HOT (there was no label so I made this up) and it had not only great spice (it wasn't crazy hot) but also a fragrant smokey taste. It was in the top left of the case. The staff is super nice and friendly and there is plenty of parking out front. I'm coming back soon since it seems like I'm always at the hospital for one of their $2.30 breakfast burritos. They serve 1$ tacos and really they are pretty darn good. Maybe not the best ever drive across the state good but when you wanna quick & cheap food this beats the hell out of every fast food option j can think of. I mean I can eat here for like 4.50$ with tax and walk out with 4 tacos, a really nice spicy salsa (arbol I imagine), salsa verde and lime wedges -- I mean it feels sort of unbeatable. Let's just cut to the chase, this place is disgusting ~ I ordered the taco plate with barbacoa, beans and rice. The rice and beans shoot the entire plat was cold, so I took it back asking for a refund and, they refused to refund me my money! Had the nerve to say "oh you don't like Mexican food "? How dumb do you sound lady !' What the he!! Would I come and order food if I didn't like Mexican food? I replied " I love Mexican food but, "I don't like Mexican food that dose t have any flavor!" Never mind the fact it was cold, that's what microwaves are for I guess but, the fact that I was trying to add flavor to this bland cold a$$ food pissed me off and the fact that they refused to refund my money pisses me off even more! The management is working out for me as I live in the neighborhood and this place is great when it comes to fresh, affordable breakfast burritos handed to you especially when you are on your way to DIA. I went in to try to order some tacos, but I was told they didn't have service on their tablet to ring things up. A gentleman came in who spoke Spanish and was told the same thing, I thought. They said some other stuff, but I don't speak Spanish. I had a feeling that she would make him food once I left though . I waited on my car and low and behold by some miracle, she was able to make him food. I went in and said it wasn't fair that because I didn't speak Spanish , I could get anything. She ignored me. Salsas are amazing 3 different types all high quality ask for the crema light green salsa amazing for any dish. The smothered burrito is awesome asada quesadilla a good deal.
