Authentic Mexican food in Chattanooga! I finally made my way to Taconooga this week! This place is really cute, small, and casual - a little run down in some places, like the bathroom, but it's all apart of the experience right? I love the booths next to the window - that's where my husband and I sat and people watched as people walked by on the street. The servers were friendly and quick to serve us. They have 32-oz beers, which my husband was excited about. I was personally excited about the salsas on the table - tried them all and loved them all except for the green one. My husband and I split the Guac Mex and for entrees, I got the taco trio and my husband got the Big Nooga burrito. Both dishes were really good! I especially liked the picadilla taco. Oh, and I highly recommend getting the chipotle mayo to pour on top of your tacos - extra sauce is ALWAYS a good thing. The salsa was AMAZING! Wish they sold it by the bottle! The chips were corn which was perfect as I am GF. We ordered chicken tacos and my daughter got nachos on the kids meal. She loved hers and the chicken tacos were perfect with the lime (and adding salsa) they provided! I was sad I hadn't ordered more! I have visited Taconooga a couple of times on trips to Chattanooga and I've never been disappointed. The specialty tacos, especially their namesake with grilled chicken, are worth the $6.50 price tag. I had that, along with a perfectly crispy carnitas taco. It had a few too many onions for my liking but it was still a great meal. It was a little different to pay $4.50+ for chips and salsa, but there was plenty and I did not run out in my short meal. Have walked by this spot a million times and just now tried it. I love the cooler full of yummy drinks if you feel like a cold sugar rush in a hot day. I got three tacos (I ordered a combo but never got the beans and rice). My favorite was the ground beef as it had more seasoning than the other ones. Husband had the fish and shrimp and loved the shrimp ones. The fact they give you three sauces on the table is amazing. I really enjoyed the spicy one pictured in the middle although I personally could stand for an extra hot option. Easy in and out, we would stop in any time for a taco fix. read more

I'm gonna admit, it took me longer than it probably should have to understand the name TACONOOGA, but who would have thought you could find some pretty amazing and authentic TACOS in CHATTA"NOOGA". The place is small and simple. Nothing really fancy. But who needs fancy when you got great food?! Our server was friendly and very accommodating for my two young grandkids. Our food came out fresh and hot in no time. My one complaint was she just didn't come back to the table after we got our food, and i really could have used a few drink refills. Other than that, we rather enjoyed our meal. We parked in the back so it was a short walk to the restaurant. The bathrooms were clean and the employees were wearing masks. And we even took quick walk across the pedestrian walk Bridge across the street afterwards. Next time you find yourself in Chattanooga.. be sure to check this place out! read more

This place is crazy good. We were in town visiting some friends and this is where they took us, and I was so happy about it. The tacos were delicious and huge! Two tacos filled me up from an empty stomach. I got the chicken poblano and the fried fish tacos. The poblano has chicken, cheese and a sort of spinach/artichoke dip on top. It was such a unique but delicious taco. The fish taco had this awesome mango salsa and came with a special sauce that was amazing. The guacamole was also on point. Hard pass!!! Awful!! Ordered a taco salad. Of which was served to me with wet dripping corn and black beans in the bottom of the bowl .. it was so wet and water soaked as if they opened cans of both and poured into a dish straight from the cans ~ then topped with lettuce and cheese. We visited Taconooga on Saturday after wandering around North Shore for a bit. We started with the bean and cheese dip and then had a few tacos (carne asada and al pastor). The menu was surprisingly interesting (I was surprised to see things like huitlacoche!), but everything seemed underseasoned to me - from the beans of the bean and cheese dip to the meat in the tacos. We visited Chattanooga on a mini friends vacation and after walking 8 miles across the bridge and downtown we needed a taco fix... Well we definitely found one here! We started with the mango guacamole (never had it with mango) and it was delicious. I ordered 3 taco al pastor and I must say, they were definitely in the top 3 best I've ever eaten in my life. The meat was tender and very flavorful but what set these above the rest was the corn tortillas. They were the perfect consistency of flavor and bend without falling apart while eating them. So good, I ordered 3 more and they were just as amazing as the first. My wife ordered the taco nooga ( carne asada taco with street corn on top) and she liked it so much she ordered a 2nd one. My buddy ordered the Al pastor torta which was the perfect portion of bread and meat. They also offer 3 house sauces as well. A mild which is kind of like a chipotle (it was ok) but they have a cucumber based sauce and carrot/habanero what was out of this world good. If you are ever walking the Walnut Street Bridge and want a taco fix, Taconooga is where it's at. It took my husband a long time to decide whether or not to move to Chattanooga from New York. He kept trying to convince me, but I didn't want to. Yummmm ~ loved the taco choices. The cactus tacos were on point for sure. Rice and beans were delicious and filling. I liked how the tacos had two shells - I used the first to eat the taco and put the scraps that fell from the first taco onto the second shell. If you love authentic tacos - look no further. I am a taco connoisseur so when I moved to Chattanooga finding a new taco place was a must. The tacos are wonderful, corn tortillas, onion and cilantro on all. My only complaint is they are slightly expensive for 3 tacos. I've been to places where authentic tacos are $2 each. This place is delicious! We ordered it for takeout...a pretty big order and they crushed it! Everything was right, delicious, hot and fresh! The guacamole is SO good I could have eaten a bucket full. The chicken and steak Taconooga tacos were delicious! We asked for the corn tortillas no flour for an allergy and they were SO sweet and careful. Probably the best GF tacos I've had as a Celiac! We came here for our last meal in Chattanooga and really enjoyed it. Really laid back and just good solid Mexican food. My daughter LOVED the empanadas which was a huge plate. I got the fried fish taco and the poblano taco. Both were great. My wife said the Picadillo taco wasn't very special. The Guaca-Mex is really good with big chunks of avocado.
