I like this cute little taco place because it's decorated very colorfully and is centrally located on the corner of Filmore and California. There's plenty of outdoor seating. I like to get a table outside weather permitting or inside looking out onto the street to people watch, it's a great location for this. I usually the get the Nachos which are so filling and great for sharing. I love that they have Margaritas at a causal place.

Baja Fish Tacos - Fried Local Cod with Cabbage Slaw, Roasted Ancho Salsa, and Baja Lime Sauce
Mike L.

Ever since I first came across TacoBar years and years ago, I've been equal parts intrigued and skeptical. The former because both the menu and the photos of the food looked great; the latter because, with all due respect, they're located in Lower Pac Heights. Besides how that meant they were inevitably going to be pricier than the taquerias in The Mission, I also worried that their flavors would be more subdued and milder as well. However, after finding ourselves in the area with a hankering for some fish tacos, it seemed like the perfect time to finally check this place out! Based on how the outside looks, the inside of TacoBar is actually smaller than I thought it would be. That being said, that's not to say they're short on seating, as they can actually accommodate a good number of folks both inside and with their outdoor tables. Similarly, the menu initially didn't seem all that extensive, but it's actually got a fair variety to offer, ranging from soups, salads, ceviches, and nachos to tacos, burritos quesadillas, and desserts. What's more, they also have a wealth of nice selection of meats and seafood, too - carne asada, carnitas, chicken, al pastor, fried fish, grilled fish, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, vegetarian, and more. -- BAJA FISH TACOS - Fried Local Cod with Cabbage Slaw, Roasted Ancho Salsa, and Baja Lime Sauce Pretty decent, but I feel like they could've been better. The cod was moist and I loved how they were as long as the tortillas, but the batter was more crisp than crispy. Also, even though the slaw was tasteless on its own, it added some freshness along with the sauce. -- CARNITAS TACO with Onion and Cilantro Not that I expected this to be be, but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty this was! The carnitas were awesome - plentiful, relatively juicy, well seasoned, and the edge pieces had a nice bit of crust and char to them. Yum! -- CARNE ASADA TACO with Onion and Cilantro Much like with the Carnitas Taco, this came with a mount of meat, but I didn't think it was quite as good. Although the beef also had a nice char on it, it wasn't quite as flavorful and felt a bit dry and chewy, too. While I certainly how generous the portion was for all of the tacos we tried, it almost had to be to offset the price. At $12.75 for two tacos (you can mix and match whatever pairings you like), TacoBar's prices are, as I figured, higher than what you might find elsewhere. And unfortunately, despite how everything tasted better than I feared they would, they weren't quite as dynamic or intense as I had hoped for either. Given that, you could certainly find better for less in The Mission, but if you're already in the neighborhood, TacoBar is more than enough to get the job done, so long as you're okay with paying for the convenience. THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

On a whim we headed to Fillmore Street for a quick bite and a little shopping. We decided on TacoBar, a simpatico corner restaurant with an inviting menu of tacos, bowls, salads and quesadillas. I believe one of the owners came from Nick's Crispy Tacos, a Russian Hill mainstay. After we ordered there was a fairly lengthy wait (15-20 minutes) for a fast/casual spot; I was glad we got an order of chips and guacamole (good but at $9, expensive). The Al Pastor quesadilla had lots of melty cheese, pico de gallo and tasty bits of pork; The Incinerator loved. I got two street tacos, both shrimp, one Baja style and the other, grilled. They had fantastic flavor and crunchy texture with ancho seasoning, Baja lime sauce, slaw and jicama. You can run up your bill pretty quickly if you get any sides or soda, beer or a margarita. It's kind of the BMW of menus, everything's à la carte ("Oh, you want a steering wheel? That'll be $3,800 on top of the base price"). The trio of house salsas, however, were complimentary and zesty but I had to ask for them. Ambiance is casual with seating that doesn't invite lingering: I'm tall and I felt I needed to climb onto the high stools at the shared table in the center of the small dining room. For bougie fast/casual, TacoBar's a good fit for the neighborhood.

Fish Taco

Fish tacos not bad for the filmore- nice crispy and flaky, doesn't feel too heavy and they serve a side of salsas along with it. These are so generously sized! Wouldn't hesitate to stop here for a quick bite if you're in the area.

This is a cute little taco spot. We got a grilled fish burrito and was a little disappointed that there was no rice in it as we expected burritos with rice and beans. It felt more like a salad burrito, fish, and coleslaw. For $15 this was not worth it. The taste was OK but definitely needed sauce. The service was quick straight and simple. Not sure if I'd come back.

Cute little spot we stumbled upon. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors! They have a great menu with plenty of options to choose from. the inside is very bright and welcoming great colors giving off a positive warm welcoming vibe. The portions for the food were really big so you get way more than what you're paying for. chips that came out were perfect and hot. The horchata wasgreat not too sweet and not bland and most importantly it wasn't all powdery. The flan was also made to perfection super nice and creamy and smooth. definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area! Shout out Antonio for the amazingly warm visit! Can't wait to come back!!

Tacobar Salad, Baja Shrimp Burrito/Bowl, Baja Fish Taco

This place is really tasty. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is great. It feels so clean and welcoming. We had the fish tacos, taco bar salad, and shrimp burrito bowl and we was very satisfied. I definitely recommend the shrimp bowl. It is a bit pricey for the portions, but the cute colors and decorations make this a nice spot to check out. The staff is also very on top of it. As soon as people leave, they clean the surfaces for new customers to find a spot to sit. The horchata was really good too!

Baja Fish Burrito

Came here today with the wife for lunch after she finished some shopping nearby. I opted for a Baja Burrito, which consisted of generous portions of fried cod, mixed in with salad slaw. It was quite delicious, although I definitely would have enjoyed it even more had they used rice instead of slaw. The wife ordered the Veracruz Fish Bowl which she said she wasn't a fan of. Although there was generous portions of fresh fish, the rest of the bowl was just massive portions of slaw, drenched in far too much salsa. They offer indoor and outdoor dining options. This place gets busy pretty fast as well. When we first arrived, there was only 1 other couple in the entire restaurant dining in. But once I stepped up to order, a massive line suddenly queued up behind me out of nowhere, and the entire place filled up. They appear to get waves of people throughout the day. Service was pretty friendly.

Lamb taco top, pastor bottom. Only 1 teeny tiny piece of pineapple. Sad.

I cannot recommend this place. I ordered 2 tacos (they are small, but each comes with 2 corn tortillas, so you can really make 2 tacos out of one taco.) I ordered one of each of the specials that were on the board outside. A lamb one and a pork one that was advertised to include pineapple. They were about $6 each! the pork and pineapple one had exactly ONE piece of pineapple (about the size of a pencil erasure - see photo). It took about 15 mins to get our food - and others that ordered after us, got their food first - which was just annoying. And they had ordered things that were grilled, I assume burritos and tacos are sorta made from a buffet of cooked items behind the counter line...so why did our take longer than grilled items? Also the counters you eat on could all be a bit cleaner. When you want water to drink - they have it behind the counter and it is room temp. Can't you just have an ice water station like other fast casual places? My hubs got a shrimp burrito he said was "pretty good" - but I didn't try it. there are WAY better places in the city, unless you are desperate - avoid this place.

Birria
Linda Y.

Got some birria tacos here - service was very speedy, so great if you're dire hunger on Fillmore street (it's right on a central street intersection). The tacos were so-so. Liked the onion garnish, but the shells were pretty soggy and the sauce felt a bit like B-tier salsa. It's usually pretty empty inside so easy to talk, but there's no lively crowd for sure.

A few people were already in there eating, and we know this place is good, as a few others in our group and I have been here multiple times. The Taqueria is typical of any other, with bench-style chairs for folks to sit on, a water station, and workers cooking it up in the kitchen. I wasn't too hungry, so I grabbed a Super Lengua Taco, while my friends grabbed burritos, we ended up grabbing 3 complimentary chips and guac/salsa with our order and the food came out pretty quickly. When I saw my Taco I forgot how much they stuffed it and wow, two of these would've filled me up just like a taco; there was so much Lengua that it kept falling off after every bite. The flavors all came together and I scruffed down the whole thing after about 6+ bites! Definitely a place to come to if you're looking for a full meal, or something to snack on!

Normally that's when I question my patience... but when a line is wrapped around the building before lunch even starts you know something serious is happening. Spoiler: it was worth it. I thought the tacos were good then I tried the asada burrito... I only had a few bites and it stole the show for me. I'm still thinking about it, which feels a little dramatic but honestly, that burrito earned the attention. It was that good. Every staff member I interacted with was also incredibly kind.
