I have a soft spot for Taco Bar. My go-to order are the nachos with carne asada or chicken - extra pickled jalapeños - and their signature lime margarita on the rocks with salt. It's on Fillmore street so understandably the prices are higher and they charge extra for most add-ons (ie. Sour cream, cheese, guacamole, chips and salsa), but they do offer complimentary green or red salsa with every order. I miss the pre-Covid days of when the condiments were in squeeze tubes - now the complimentary salsas are in tiny cups. Great Mexican restaurant on Fillmore near my church, so I come here for lunch often. There is no free chips here like the taquerias in the Mission, but there is a Toast loyalty program to accumulate points for discount on food. After paying today, I was surprised that it told me I have almost $5 off from the loyalty program so I used it. It'll definitely cause me to want to come here more often than going to the other Mexican restaurant on Divisadero. I also like that it's a casual paid at the counter restaurant and a lot of seating. There are 3 outdoor tables. I enjoy ordering the steak burrito and ordered it on multiple occasions, but I noticed they also have all of the other meats, fish, and shrimp options too. Gives the burrito that extra juicy moist flavor but won't leave your burrito soggy or tear apart. They offer three different type of sauces but their green sauce is my absolute favorite. It's like the next La Vic sauce. If you love meat, can't go wrong with the carne asada burrito. The size is just right and the meat is perfectly cooked and tender. The Guac is just soo delicious and I couldn't help but eat it with almost everything, along with their salsas which were also very flavorful. Like many times before, we called to let them know to be careful as I have an allergy (doctor tested, not just a preference). They have tons of shrimp on the menu and I wanted them to be careful as I ordered a cheese quesadilla and was worried that they would cook it in an area where shrimp is cooked. I called TacoBar, as I have done many times before and expected to speak to someone who would take me seriously. This time, the guy told me to " place another order" and hung up on me. I called back several times and he either took the phone of the hook or did not answer. The upshot: our food came completely cooked in shellfish. Their delicious Baja shrimp tacos are to die for, and the aguas frescas are always on point. The staff here is always super friendly and always super helpful. There is little in the way of description for those of us who need to avoid spicy sauces and even less is offered in the way of customization. Most Mexican joints in the city will let you talk with the staff as they prepare your food (this existed long before chipotle, thank you Mission) but not here so you basically get what they give you.
