The tortilla chips have that perfect balance of crisp edges and just enough sauce to soften them without turning soggy. The chorizo adds a savory, slightly smoky richness, while the toppings bring everything together with fresh, bright flavors. It's the kind of breakfast where every bite has a little crunch, a little spice, and plenty of flavor. I think I just found my new favorite Mexican restaurant!…read more The ambience here is charming. It's located in what looks like an old house, painted on the outside in a dark red paint. There are roses hanging from the ceiling, exposed brick, and colored lighting (would you notice more as the sun goes down). The wood ceilings really make this place special. There is a small bar in the corner. Don't forget to look up because there is a little door above with the guardian angel and children painted on it, and a couple of stained glass windows. From the minute we walked in, we were meeting with smiling faces. When you first walk in, you are inside the kitchen or at least right next to it. We started with a couple of drinks - a Corona and a Diablito, a sotol cocktail with lots of pureed mango. A basket of chips and a bowl of Green dip or brought to the table, and we were directed to the salsa bar back near the entrance. The salsa bar is fantastic, with several different kinds of salsa. We grabbed what tasted like a creamy tomatillo salsa, a pineapple salsa, a pico de gallo, and a creamy Serrano salsa. They were all so good that we couldn't say which was our favorite. I know that pineapple salsa just sent me over the moon! For an entree, hubby ordered a Sonoran burrito. He said the burrito was delicious, and kept pointing out how good the guacamole and side was. It wasn't especially big or small. I ordered the fajitas (steak and chicken combo) and the minute they came to the table sizzling, both my husband and I were surprised at how large this portion was. It was served with tortillas (you get your choice of corn or flour), black beans, and rice. The black beans were good - - I suppose they just tasted like black beans. I was surprised at how delicious the rice was because it's white and I expected it just to taste like white rice. But there was a creaminess to it and a flavor that I couldn't put my finger on but that I know was really yummy (butter, maybe? Cheese, maybe?? Idk). Good meat in my fajitas was super tender and the veggies were grilled just right. This was a really common really delicious meal. This place had been on my list for a long time and now that I finally been here, I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. While I've had some phenomenal street tacos in LA and Mexico, I've been wanting to explore more of its diversity, particularly the seafood traditions! We came with a healthy appetite and ordered the Mega Molcajete, El Pulpazo, and Camarones Locos. The complimentary ceviche tostadas were a promising start! Fresh, vibrant, they immediately set my expectations high for quality and freshness of the seafood to follow. The Mega Molcajete was a showstopper. The dish arrived as an extravagant spread of grilled meats, shrimp, octopus, lobster tail, fried fish, and more. Visually spectacular, and with flavors that lived up to its presentation! El Pulpazo deserves its own praise. Octopus is notoriously unforgiving. There's a fine line between beautifully tender and unpleasantly chewy. I've had my share of disappointing renditions to know that an impressive char means very little if the texture isn't right. Fortunately, this was executed well! Fantastically seasoned, with a lovely charred exterior, and cooked to the right doneness! The Camarones Locos were another highlight! We loved the flavors of the sauce! Since we had children with us, our waitress graciously accommodated our request to serve the sauce separately to control the spice level! We also had the Mango Diablo, which provided some much-needed tropical refreshment from both the Arizona heat and the fiery kick of the dishes themselves! A few minor drawbacks worth mentioning. The parking can be tricky, as the lot is rather small (we were fortunate to snag the single remaining spot in the lot). This was also not an inexpensive outing. Our bill (for the aforementioned orders above) came in just under $300 (tax and tip included). That said, I felt the experience justified the splurge!

Taco Viva: The Holy Grail of Taquerias! If you've ever found yourself wandering the culinary desert of Phoenix, yearning for a taco experience that transcends mere sustenance and enters the realm of gastronomic nirvana, then my friend, let me guide you to the pearly gates of Taco Viva, located at the divine intersection of 28th St and Indian School. First things first: the Al Pastor Vampiro Con Todo. This isn't just a taco; it's an epic tale of flavor, a Shakespearean drama of succulent pork, crispy edges, and a symphony of spices. Every bite is a soliloquy of deliciousness that left me contemplating the meaning of life--and whether I could justify ordering another one. Next up, the Carne Asada Quesadilla. Imagine if a quesadilla and a steak had a love child, and that love child was raised by gourmet angels. The carne asada was so tender and flavorful that I briefly considered proposing marriage to it. We could've been happy together. And let's talk about those Chips and Salsa. The salsa has a kick that's just enough to remind you you're alive, but not so much that you need to call the fire department. It's the perfect balance, like walking a tightrope between taste-bud bliss and spicy adventure. Wash it all down with their Horchata, a creamy, cinnamon-y dream that's like a hug for your soul. If liquid comfort food were a thing, this would be it. I'm convinced the recipe was handed down by a benevolent food deity. In summary, if you haven't yet experienced Taco Viva, do yourself a favor and make it your next culinary pilgrimage. Your taste buds will thank you, your heart will sing, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without this taco haven in your life. Viva la Taco Viva! read more

The service was exceptional -- attentive, efficient, and easily the strongest part of the experience. The atmosphere, however, felt average and lacked the warmth or character that would elevate the visit beyond a quick stop. After three previous attempts to dine here, each abandoned because of the overwhelming lines, I finally managed to place an order for the asada tostadas. Visually, the dish made an immediate impression. The presentation was vibrant and carefully arranged, promising a layered and satisfying bite. Unfortunately, the execution did not match the appearance. The tostada felt less like a composed dish and more like a collection of separate ingredients stacked onto a crunchy shell. Each component stood distinctly on its own rather than working together in harmony. Instead of complementary textures and flavors building depth, every bite tasted fragmented as though the ingredients were competing for attention rather than enhancing one another. Parking is challenging but accessible. read more

-Do yourself a favor and just go to Oscar's Tacos!-…read more Due to the convenience, I've been here WAY too many times, so this review is absolutely not based on one bad experience. I've given this place chance after chance, and the biggest problem is consistency. It's always hit or miss. When it's "good," it's honestly just okay. But when it's bad, it's disgusting. I've tried a large portion of the menu because I come here so often, and eventually you get tired of ordering the same tacos, burritos, and tortas. Their carne asada and burritos are probably some of the more consistent things I've ordered. I've noticed that the items that seem to sell more frequently tend to taste okay, probably because they're being turned over more often. But almost every time I try something different, I regret it. Even the tacos are inconsistent. Sometimes the tortillas taste like they were literally warmed up in a microwave instead of heated properly on a comal. There's no slight browning, toasted flavor, or those little doraditas you expect from a good taco tortilla. They're just soft, almost steamed-tasting tortillas. The meat is the same way sometimes it tastes "fresh," and other times it absolutely does not. The caldo de res was another NO. Anyone who makes caldo knows that when you first boil the meat, that foamy, fatty residue rises to the top and you skim it off. Their broth tasted like that wasn't properly removed. It had that chuquío, dirty-meat taste heavy, greasy, foamy, and almost like you're tasting the impurities from boiling the meat rather than a clean, flavorful caldo. That particular taste completely ruins a soup for me. The ceviche was also bad. The lime flavor wasn't fresh, tart, and acidic like ceviche should taste. It was bitter and stale. The best way I can describe it is when you cut a lime in half, leave it sitting exposed for a couple of days, and then taste it. It develops that old, bitter citrus flavor. THAT is what their ceviche tasted like. I've also ordered their fries and received fries completely saturated in oil. They weren't crispy, golden, or even slightly browned. They were limp and soggy and tasted like they had absorbed a bunch of old fryer oil. It was basically like eating potatoes soaked in grease. But TODAY was finally enough for me. I've had their fish soup once before, and it was just okay. Nothing memorable, but edible. I decided to give it another chance today, and I couldn't eat it. The fish smelled BAD. I'm not talking about the normal strong smell of seafood. Fish smelling "fishy" and fish smelling like it's turning bad are two completely different smells. This smelled OFF. The broth itself also had this almost slimy texture that made the whole thing even more nauseating. It completely turned my stomach. Then I got to the cabeza. I've ordered their cabeza before, and normally it has those browned, flavorful pieces that actually taste good. Today, I was literally getting big WHITE chunks of fat. Not nicely browned, flavorful cabeza chunks of white fat. Between that and the fish soup, I was DONE. And this is NOT the first time I've received food here that I couldn't eat. I've actually had to return food on previous occasions. Today I didn't even bother. I was so disgusted that I finally accepted that I need to stop coming here, regardless of how convenient the location is. I genuinely felt sick to my stomach afterward and like I wanted to throw up. I'll also mention that, to my understanding, the same owner has the ice cream place next door. I've tried food there as well and ordered nachos. The chips were stale. So unfortunately, my experiences with food quality haven't been limited to just one item or even one visit. The one thing I WILL give credit for is the cashiers. They are always very sweet and friendly. They know me by now because of how often I've been there, and I've always appreciated how they treat me. My complaint has nothing to do with them or their customer service. I know losing one customer isn't going to make or break a business, but I've spent enough money here and given this place more than enough chances. Food should not be this inconsistent. I shouldn't have to wonder whether I'm going to get a decent meal or tortillas that taste microwaved, meat that doesn't taste fresh, greasy caldo with that dirty-meat flavor, bitter old-lime ceviche, fries saturated in old oil, stale chips, fish that smells like it's gone bad, slimy broth, or chunks of white fat instead of cabeza. At some point, convenience isn't worth it anymore. Too many chances, too many fails. I'm done.

I will start by saying I genuinely like the food here. I am from the Globe-Miami area and this…read morereminds me of home. With that said, the prices have become unreasonable for the portion sizes. I placed an order to go today for 1 regular burro (red chili and beans), 2 bean and cheese burros, and a large rice and beans. The total out the door was $33.73 including tax and their credit card fee. The burros were a bit smaller than the last time I was there and the "large" rice and beans were embarrassingly lacking. It equated to 1/2 cup of beans and 3/4 cup of rice (see photos). The containers were 2.75 inches by 7 inches as a reference. You can see in the side photo that there was less than half an inch of beans in the bottom of this "large" container.
