This place is great! Tried it once on a recommendation, and went back twice more. I tried a variety of things, and all of it was good. But, my favorites were the Chicken Crisp Burritos which were a lighter crispier version of taquitos, and their white chicken chili, which was very hearty and had lots of chunks of chicken in it. I was hungry and didn't want anything complicated. I'd had enough of complicated. The sign said Taco Time, and I walked in. The staff looked like they played in bands or ran vintage shops on the side. Beanies, denim, calm eyes. Tattoos down their arms like stories you hadn't earned the right to ask about. Cool in a way you weren't. You felt like an outsider, but they never made you feel small. They smiled when you ordered, asked how your day was like they meant it. It was a pure interaction. The food came fast. The soft taco was hot, folded tight, meat and spice and veggies tucked inside. Lettuce was crisp, the tomatoes real, not pale and wet like in other places. The cheese melted into it without fuss. The Tater-fries burned your fingers in a good way. The hot sauce had a bite. Not just heat -- flavor. Vinegar, pepper, something smoky. You used more than you meant to. You didn't regret it. You finished the last fry, wiped your hands on the napkin, and stood. No need to say anything. The food was good. Honest. Customer service at 3pm on a Friday was phenomenal! This is a fast food chain that competes with TB. They've got an active table doing job interviews and applications today, meanwhile they managed to take six orders in the time it took us to fill our drinks and pick a place to sit. All the employees are clearly hustling yet none are stressed or rude. Food was appropriate and matched what I ordered, a meal for under $7. I used to come here every so often because I pass by it on the way home from work. Today was the last time that I'll stop at this location. Consistently about 90% of the time my basic order is screwed up in one way or another. Today I ordered the two fish tacos meal with a coke. For some reason just one of the fish tacos was absolutely slathered in salsa for some reason and the drink was wrong. I live in California and had never seen/heard of Taco Time but while visiting hubby's family in Washington, they're everywhere ! Nothing special about it really, it reminded me of Del Taco. I ordered the Casita Burrito which had refried pinto beans, lots of melted cheese (I love cheese) , your choice of chicken beef , or carnitas. (I picked chicken) Than topped with zesty enchilada sauce, sour cream, more melted cheese! Cheese galore! Also came with a little salad on the side. Well heck. We used to eat inside here all the time, and now we do take out and they are fast, friendly, and they make the hot sauce fresh. If you are into hot sauce, you can taste that this didn't come out of a jar. We recommend the Natural Soft Pinto Bean Burrito. Or the fish taco. And the shrimp taco when they have the special. No one has ever been anything but quick and friendly, and one time when our order was messed up the manager made it right. Despite having been born in Mexico, living in South Texas, and eating authentic Mexican food all my life, I find myself irreversibly in love with Mexican fast food like Taco Bell and Del Taco. Never having been to a Taco Time before, when I spied it, I was attracted to it like a June bug to a porch light on a hot Texas summer night. The crispy burrito was delicious. I am a fan of Taco Time, all locations. To those of you who protest that this is not real Mexican food, get over it. Taco Time does not pretend to be. And I'd bet, all those food trucks around town aren't altogether close to "real too". Simply, it is Mexican inspired American fast food and darn good at that with fresh, locally (Northwest) sourced ingredients. One star for the food; one star for the service. The order taker ignored me as I approached the counter because he was in conversation with what I assume was an off-shift employee leaning on the counter and chatting him up. "Are you ready for me?" I asked when he finally acknowledged me. He took my order; I paid. As I approached the beverage dispenser, the off-shift employee told me she was frequently annoyed by the number of customers that come to the counter without having decided on their order. I was not one of those undecided customers and told her I was not interested in what she had to say. I told her it as rude - to not promptly acknowledge a customer. When the order-taker brought my meal to the table, he said, "She did not intend to be rude." I took the opportunity for a quick Customer Service lesson which he accepted. I don't know who I'm most annoyed with. 1) The young order-taker that appears new on the job; 2) The sloppy off-shift worker loitering at the counter; or 3) The manager that hasn't properly trained their staff. I went in and ordered my food...patiently waited 15 minutes even though there was only one other person in the lobby (drive through was busy) but they had 7 people staffed. I asked for some hot sauce when she brought my order (you can't get your own right now due to the current covid situe) she rolled here eyes and gave me one hot sauce for 3 burritos. I believe the manager should have suggested she move to another station on the line if she couldn't be a bit more customer friendly. If she was having a bad night someone else should be helping the customers. I felt like I was patient and polite and feel like I should have been treated the same in return. I got the habanero burrito and chicken tacos. Both were very bland and lacked any kick of flavor. The inside of this place is super dated and is in need of some love. First time I've ordered from Taco Time the other night. And this was out of necessity since I was craving tacos and California Taco is closed. I ordered their chicken baja and their fish baja soft tacos together with their taters. My main complaint is the wrap of the soft tacos: they seem to be a little -- and for a lack of a better word -- rubbery, which made eating the tacos a little less enjoyable. I ate the fish taco last and actually "opened" my taco (gasp! lol) and just ate the filling and threw away the wrap it came with. The fish (mahi-mahi as per their billboard ad) was rather tasty and and the flavors was good. Will I be back? Probably. If not to just order their fish tacos and throw out its wrappers. CT does not make fish tacos anyway. lol. As I said in my review of California Taco though, why would anyone in Olympia want to have any other tacos when California Taco tacos are the bomb? I think this is the best Taco Time in WA for the following reasons: 1. Friendly, approachable employees who have never in my experience mixed or messed up anything I've ordered. Ditto the orders of friends and family. 2. The seating area is always clean, as is the lot. 3. The drive through is designed in a way that gives the indecisive juuust enough time to decide before committing to what they're going to get. 4. The food is always fresh, warm, and in the case of the Mexi-nuggets - always extra crispy if you make that request. 5. I don't eat a lot of fast food, and when I do I don't feel so great - the food served @ Taco Time, while fast, and fairly inexpensive, doesn't leave me feeling overfull, ill or regretting my decision for any reason. 6. They have one of those super cool 1001 flavor soda machines, which has multiple varieties of ginger-ale, among other flavors - I feel that the variety in something so unpopular and relatively boring as ginger-ale expresses the variety and mixing potential these machines present, as well as the fun for the creative. 7. I've spoken with people who work there - the food is fresh, not the "food" is fresh or the food is "fresh", the food is simply fresh and real and that's kind of rare these days, making Taco Time outstanding in it's field. 8.
