Delicious and such fresh tasting Black Bean Soup!
    Alden C.

Dos Hermanos is an excellent Mexican restaurant that is tucked away in a market area inside of a building in downtown Olympia. Steve and I ducked in here for a snack and we were both quite pleased with what we ordered. We got an order of nachos to share along with a bowl of Black Bean Soup. The soup and nachos were both delicious, fresh and vibrant in flavor. I had a mild craving for nachos for a while and this definitely fit the bill nicely. There looked to be a lot of other promising menu items and I can say I am not sure if you could go wrong with anything off of the menu. We certainly didn't feel that way with what we ordered.

Decently priced Mexican food. The fish tacos came out delicious. Nothing to complain. The supreme burrito was just ok. I picked the burrito because it comes with chips and salsa. The chips were really good. They were thick. The salsa was just OK. The contents of the burrito tasted good but it was poorly wrapped. The ingredients were not evenly mixed so you get beans and chicken the first half, lettuce and sour cream the second half, and avocado the last 2 bites. My friend's burrito came apart and she had to eat it with a fork.

Outstanding food. Fresh high-quality and priced right. Came in for lunch we got our meal quickly.

    Margarita Azul. Cheers!

We had dinner there last night. The Azul Margarita ($14) was bliss, but pricey for a 10-12 oz cocktail. But... The rest of the food was just OK... and expensive... and NO complimentary chips & salsa. You order at the counter and take a seat and then wait briefly to be served. The atmosphere is OK, kind of like a food court, but smaller and with some interesting art. We had a chile relleno entree ($17), tamales (plural on the menus, but you get 1 tamale) entree ($12) and side order of two carne asada tacos (not priced on the menu, but apparently they were $7 EA). Entrees were average size and came with rice & refried beans. Nothing about either meal was worthy of a "wow"; the chile relleno & tamale were good, but far from the best we have had elsewhere. There was very little chicken in the tamale and the masa was very thick - way too much masa-to-filling ratio. The tacos were very good - flavorful steak, chopped onions, and cilantro on a freshly-made soft corn tortilla, with salsa on the side. The man taking our order was neither friendly nor helpful. The ladies in the kitchen who cook & serve were friendly, and we didn't wait too long, except the corn tortillas that came with my Chile relleno didn't arrive until I was nearly finished. The worst part was the extremely high price - our bill (before 15% tip) was $71! There are far better places in Olympia to eat Mexican food for less money. Standard Mexican food & a margarita shouldn't cost over $35 per person. Our go-to place is in Taqueria Y Mas Mi Pueblo in Lacey. Last night convinced us to not stray from what we know to be excellent, reasonably-priced food & friendly, efficient service! Much better prices and larger servings, too! Dang!! Now I feel like going to dinner again, but my dining out budget has been blown!!

    Supreme Burrito

Cute little place in 22 Market, great location near the transit center. Got the supreme burrito and it was alright, honestly wish it was a bit cheesier though.

Side of rice and beans. Nice presentation.

Next best was the bread - it was perfectly soft inside with a crispy crust. Between how oily the dish was and my nose running from the increased spice as I continued eating, I wouldn't return for this dish. The eggs weren't noticeable in appearance or taste- I had to search for them. The "creamy grits" were creamy, but the black pepper taste was STRONG. Definitely ordered the side for the "creamy" factor, hoping when the server said harissa in the eggs would have a mild spice, that the grits would calm my mouth. The amount of pepper made this unsuccessful. But if you like black pepper a lot then you'll enjoy them. My son enjoyed the beignet's. The server was also the host and he was kind. It was easy to get his attention when needed. I didn't see anyone with a grin on their face after taking bites of their food. I looked around quite a bit out of curiosity. So for ambiance, kind and prompt service, and the possibilities of the menu I gave it 4 stars. We only tried the few things I mentioned. I did also appreciate the bottle of water ready on every table. Note that there is no kids menu and it's mostly table seating. So maybe try on your own or with other adults, and leave the kids at home?

Cozy atmosphere. There were 3 employees that night, the woman who initially waited on us actually appeared to roll her eyes when we ordered. She seemed pretty rushed and just didn't want to work that night or something. The bartender was friendly and came for our second round and he actually seemed more welcoming and friendly. The drinks menu is a bit small (compared to other nearby bars). We got 5 drinks, one espresso one which wasn't great and the rest were alright. Nothing that made us go "Oh man, try that!" but they weren't bad either. The food, looks better than normal bar food, which I loved. We ordered "Balls of Gibralter" - North African meatballs, which were *SO GOOD*, so delicious EXCEPT the texture. The flavors were all amazing, but it was as if there was too much egg and not enough breadcrumbs because it gave the impression of being wildly undercooked, even though you could see no pink. If they were firmer, they would've been perfect. They seem to have a rotating grilled cheese special I wouldn't mind checking out next time. The ambiance-lovely. In other words, it's just my thing. I don't need a bar to have a food menu. I don't need it to take credit cards. I don't need it to have TVs lining the walls or be blasting the latest dance music. I do need it to be a place where I can nurse a few drinks and be with myself (or my friends) without such distractions, and the Crypt fits that bill perfectly. BTW, if you need to have the aforementioned things, there are a dozen other places for you to go near downtown. If you want to be more social, or party with a bigger group, they have a patio. On the bar side, the drinks are excellent (try the Rose Rickey) and the staff has always been friendly. The seasonal cocktails can be pricey, but they're damn good, and you're worth the treat. We started with the patatas bravas, gambas pil pil (butter garlic shrimp), oysters (both raw and cooked), and a hummus platter, and everything was excellent. The true standout, however, was the smoked salmon Alfredo--an absolutely incredible dish and one of the best pastas I've had in a long time. We added some chopped jalapeños for extra heat, but honestly, it was fantastic even on its own. The dessert was equally impressive, with a cake that was incredibly moist and the perfect way to end the meal. The wine selection deserves special mention as well. They offer a great variety of Spanish wines that pair beautifully with the menu. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit.
