ate here with my church friends and it was...okay. do not recommend the quesabirria tacos bc so salty and it was stale. not as stale as the nacho chips, though. the lengua tacos are usually my favorite, but the one at this place was not at all impressive. very little toppings on each taco, even with the other flavors that my table ordered. the real standout that saved the meal was the guacamole. it was too good. i would only come here for that order an that order alone. anyway, the service was good. they bring the food to u, but u got to order and pay upfront. that was a strange layout. they also have a bar on the opposite side of the restaurant, which I did not know connected to one another. there is a lot of seating whether you want the standard level ones or the high chairs by the bar counter. they prepare well with takeout boxes and bags, too, if you decide to take things home. servings here are pretty generous, so anticipate for that! I love the cute little twinkling lights and how there are other nearby restaurants in this mall area. the tables each have silverware utensils, but enough for only one person. We went on a Saturday morning, very nice place. Service was fast and kind. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The chips are fantastic! We ordered the chips and guacamole which was a HUGE portion. Very delicious. I got 2 of the chicken tacos. Now the chicken was grilled and really really good. But there wasn't a lot of flavor in the taco itself. I didn't have salsa on it. It did have onion and cilantro but not enough for my taste. It also had a green sauce on it but really no flavor on it. I did not care for the tortilla at all. It was so thick and tasted like nothing, texture was sponge like. 3/5 maybe I just need to give it another try? Add some salsa, not sure. I really wanted to like it. My husband got a wet steak burrito with green sauce... Now that was delicious!!!! And I'm not a big wet burrito person but holy moly it was fantastic and it was a huge portion. I visited this place with a friend, my mom, and my toddler. The location is inside a building that houses various suites. You walk in, place your order, and then sit down. They give you a number, and you wait for your food to be served. Although we had to wait a while for our food and drinks, it felt like they might have been understaffed. Sis and I hung outwith a friend here and I've been reluctant to come here because they are always crowded and I hate crowds. It wasn't so bad though. You seat yourself and order a the counter. Great, because that means you can move the tables into diferent configurations as needed and nobody gave us grief about it. We tried the chips and guacamole and that was solid. I tried the pork belly taco and carne asada taco and it was pretty good. Even though we liked everything, it was also forgettable. Next time I'd like to try the patio tables because on a warm day, this place is hopping. read more

TLDR; Long waits to order at the counter and long waits to receive mediocre overpriced food. Bring your patience if you want to eat here. I have been to Tumwater Taco a few times since they have opened. They have been understaffed every time I go there. You stand in a very long line to order at the counter. Last night we stood in line for 30 minutes to order. No exaggeration. There was one young man taking orders, delivering food, and bussing tables. One. For a packed restaurant. This poor guy was being ran to death all over the place while three people cooked and one employee was at the bar. This meant long lines to order food, long times to get your food delivered, and many dirty tables that people were bussing themselves to find a place to sit. Many napkins holders were empty, the ice water station was empty, and the general atmosphere was one of chaos. After taking 30 minutes to order food, it took 35 to get it. And 2/7 orders were wrong . The protein portions were small and especially for the price. Main entrees don't come with rice and beans like most Mexican restaurants serve them. My friends chicken burrito had no chicken in it and had to be remade. My other friend has the taquitos which were cooked into oblivion with super hard shells that were overcooked with tasteless meat inside. The fish in the fish taco was fried and bland. I realize Tumwater has limited restaurants so this place will probably continue to be busy due to there not being much competition but the management needs to take a serious look at how they are treating their main employee. They need more staffing. They need improvement on the accuracy of orders and food quality as well. We won't be back until they get this figured out. Standing in a 30 minute line to order mediocre overpriced food is a hard pass for me. read more

I went here for lunch with a couple of friends today. We were able to order immediately and found a table easily. It wasn't super busy but a lot of people came and went while we were eating. I got the quesabirria with a side of rice and one of my friends got the marionberry margarita. They also got the fish tacos and someone else got a burrito. Everything was so good! The food was delicious and had great flavor. The rice was a little mushy but that's expected when it's being kept in a constantly hot container. The quesabirra was also a bit greasy on the outside, I ended up wiping the outside of the tortillas with a napkin before I ate and that helped. It wasn't spicy at all and I enjoyed it a lot. My friends enjoyed their food and drink too. The restaurant was clean and wasn't too loud. It smelled good and the atmosphere was nice. There's a lot of parking outside and there is a bathroom down the hall. There's also both indoor and outdoor seating so you can take your pick. Love their chips, guacamole, and salsa! The chips are warm, crunchy, and delicious! Guacamole is wonderful with lots of chunky goodness and presented in a large bowl! The Margaritas and Lemon Drops are fun. Everything is served cafeteria style - which is okay. The whole building is cold and drafty, including the interior of Tumwater Taco. Very strange experience. I give this an extra star because the place is new, clean, and pretty and the employees are nice. They don't actually serve tacos. They have soft tortillas and put a little bit of food on the top. I ordered a fish "taco" and told them I have an onion allergy, so I had to be sure there was none on it. My order took forever. Everyone in my party was served way before me. I took one bite of the fish and it burned my mouth. I think they thought they had to substitute the onion with hot sauce or something. They were kind enough to replace it with a plain "taco," but I found a large metal rivet in it. Thankfully, I didn't chew very hard! My companion ordered a burrito and was served a "taco." Located in the vibrant Tumwater Craft district on Capitol blvd, it's incredibly easy to find and parking is plenty. The ordering process is seamless - simply place your order at the counter, you're given a number, and choose a table. While the inside seating area is cozy, the outdoor space offers ample room to relax. The bar serves up delicious Margaritas and other favorites. Over my numerous visits, I've consistently experienced fast and friendly service. The food, while occasionally inconsistent, is often hot, fresh, and absolutely delightful. The exceptional customer service keeps me coming back, and it's wonderful to see familiar faces. Do I highly recommend this Taco place? Absolutely! Ambiance - located in a newer strip of shops, TT presents a nicely with a cool/hip vibe to it. Married to a tequila bar the restaurant pairs well. On our first visit, I was please with the portion size of the tacos. We found the pricing reasonable for their "nouveau" Mexican fair - and we should know as we have eaten a ton of this type of food throughout the US and Mexico. We felt pretty spoiled on this first visit as we were one of three occupied tables (they had just opened). My wife and I placed our order at the counter, trying 6-7 of their various taco offerings. Food was prepared and delivered to our table promptly. We asked for some additional salsa and she brought us a large sampling of all their homemade salsas... which were all delicious and were quickly gobbled up! The waitstaff and kitchen staff were all great! The bartender on the other lacked tack and couldn't seem to take no for an answer when she asked if we each wanted a tequila flight. But the food was great, a bit pricy sure, but they didn't skimp on the stuffing! On our second and last trip, they were pretty busy and we waited for our food a bit longer. We also didn't get the right order initially and needed to tell them which table had ordered the food and reminded them of our order. Once cleared up and once OUR order arrived, the food tasted and presented the same as on our prior visit! I did go back inside to ask if we could get some homemade salsa and was, rather rudely, told that would be a surcharge - ironically from that bartender from our previous visit! She went on to explain that "we make X (don't remember) number of salsas fresh everyday, and if you want you can buy a flight of them." I responded, "So we've purchased six tacos, and a side of homemade chips and guacamole, and we get no salsa unless we pay more for it?" I also explained that we were never charged on our last visit for all the various salsas we had enjoyed and she responded that they have always charged for their salsa. OK...perhaps opening error on our previous visit? Regardless, I don't believe this warranted the attitude from the bartender (now thinking manager and not just bartender b/c she wanted to know who exactly gave us the free salsa!). This led my wife to wonder if me being in uniform on this visit had something to do with the attitude...not sure, and honestly shouldn't matter. Regardless, what I do know is we've never paid separately (a la carte) for house salsas while having entrees at a Mexican restaurant...anywhere...stateside or overseas...and not about to now! To me, trying to market your homemade salsa like it's a fine tequila is a bit too much. The cost of having a salsa bar should be built into the cost of the food. IDK...maybe I'm just too old school. Don't see us returning...shame too as the food (and even the salsa) is pretty tasty. read more

I had the queso birria tacos and they were very good. You only get two, but the quality is good. 4 stars My spouse had the Sopes with carne asada. The masa cakes were very greasy. . . ick. At first, he liked the steak but then noticed that it had a bbq grilling smoke flavor. Not sure if it was a natural smoke from grilling or bottled smoke. We had really yummy vegetarian dishes! A wet burrito and a couple tacos (mushroom and pepper). Cool vibe in a nice building full of lovely local artists' works, wine and beer in neighboring venues in the building... plus yummy beer options at Tumwater Taco and a full bar! We'll be back! read more

Tumwater Taco Company is in the Tumwater Craft District building. One of various tenants in this building the Tumwater Taco Company is a great addition to this market place type set up. In this building there are cideries, breweries, restaurants, an art gallery, an ice cream shop and seafood market. If you plant it right you could easily have an afternoon at this place grazing around and drinking at what is offered here. We did this activity on our second visit here and got in Tumwater Taco Company food as one of our places for a snack. We got the chips and guacamole which was really good. Fresh and tasty guac goes a long ways when it comes to snack time! We also split a fish taco which was very good as well with Cod (I'm guessing) along with onion, cilantro, tomato, cabbage and chipolte sauce. To round out our snack fest here we got some nachos (no meat) and really got into those something fierce with cheese, onion, tomato, cilantro and of course MORE guac! They have a large bar menu to select from for all of your margarita, tequila, mezcal, sotol and wine from Mexico needs. We didn't indulge upon this menu as we wanted to visit the two breweries and cideries here at the building but this menu in of itself is reason enough to return back to Tumwater Taco Company and the Tumwater Craft District building! read more

Literally the worst Mexican food I've ever had. $25 for taquitos and a coke. The taquito shells were so hard I could barely chew them and the meat was unseasoned and tough. I would rather have had microwaved taquitos. The only thing giving it two stars was that we were able to get a table immediately, didn't have to wait for service because we could order at the counter, and the atmosphere and location are good. If I needed to hang out until an event I might go there and ONLY have a soda, but I will try every other option in the Tumwater craft district first and it would be my last resort. read more

Absolutely NO complaints. Both meals so very delicious!! We also ordered chips with guacamole and salsa. I am okay with guacamole but not something I typically order or crave; not anymore because I couldn't get enough. It was so good, definitely made with fresh ingredients!!! The service was impeccable for this type of establishment. All staff very courteous and friendly. We never had to wait for anything. Not food or drinks. And the drinks were amazing by the way!!! This restaurant is a quick serve style so you order at a counter and then pay right away. They then bring you your food after a while. They serve a pork belly taco that is absolutely amazing. That's my number one recommendation. Their steak taco is also dynamite. They have a birria taco that is average. It really should be more crispy but it is way too salty. The nachos are served on a platter that is way too small so it doesn't coat the cheese evenly. This restaurant also coats EVERYTHING in way too many onions. Onions are even on items that the menu says shouldn't have onions (like nachos and the pork belly tacos). Would recommend you tell them to remove all onions or you will be tasting onions for hours after dinner:. The rice has way too much of a cilantro taste to it. They have pretty good chips and guac. All menu items are overpriced for what it is. The best way I can describe this is that it appeals to the "white Mexican food" standard. It's mediocre but edible. It isn't "wow". The salsa has no heat. If you have anyone visiting from out of town you can bring them here and they would be like well, I didn't expect Washington to have great authentic Mexican food. The overall vibe is good. It's located in the craft district so if you are looking for drinks and talking with loved ones this could be a good spot. You'll be forced to talk to someone if you order food here because it takes ages to get your food. The last two times I went there it was a 45-60 minute wait to get food and not all tables were full. Overall I do not recommend this place if you want Mexican. There are a variety of other options in the area that well serve better food at a better price and get it to you in 15 minutes. read more

Decided to stop here for lunch. Had their Tuesday special (fish taco $5). It was made with fresh ingredients and tasted fine. I tried the traditional Margarita and it was fine as well. Staff is friendly and the decor modern. They have outside seating which unfortunately is right on the parking lot, looking onto the gated in trash cans. Maybe they can put up some flower baskets in the summertime to distract from that. All in all in OK new addition to Tumwater. read more

In town to visit for two days and I came twice. Great food not greasy and friendly staff. Clean establishment.

Service was great. The food however is NOT authentic. Horchata is watered down and everything had way too much onions. I wish I took pictures. We couldn't finish our food. You can compare it to chipotle. This review has nothing to do with the workers, they are nice people. The atmosphere is really nice. Stopped by the Tumwater Craft District on a whim. Realized I was hungry when walking by Tumwater Taco Company. The fellow who helped us was great and the tacos were really good. I had a pork belly with avocado sauce and micro greens and a mushroom tinga. I really liked the pork belly one. The mushroom tinga was delicious but not sure I would get it again. I wanted to pour the mushrooms and sauce over a steak. My wife thoroughly enjoyed a Al pastor taco and my mom gave high marks to the fish taco. My mom decided she needed a margarita and the charming woman tending bar made her the seasonal special "cranberry blush." I had a taste and it was quite good - well balanced, smoky, and tart. The guy who took our order (I think the owner and chef) asked if we wanted hot sauces when we ordered and I said "just the tacos at this point because I want to see what you have going on." He came by with sample of four hot sauces and chips and told us we needed to try them. They were really good- both chips and the sauces. We will definitely be back.
