Sweet little find in Tumwater, WA. Cool metal Mexican skeletons all over the bar and restaurant, and a 6-foot cigar smoking butler figure in the dining area. I'm a sucker for ambiance. The food!? Actually, pretty good. I ordered the lunch street tacos. Flavor-wise, good, but difficult to pick up. Perhaps they are designed to be fork/knife eaten, but when I think taco, I think hands. Accompaniments were the typical add rice and refried beans. What I found disappointing was the complimentary chips and salsa. Call me old school, but I've come to expect them as part of my Mexican restaurant experience. At La Patrona, only the first serving is comp, after its $3 for each refill. We drive by this restaurant every day so we decided to stop in and try it. The place was full (great sign) on a Sunday around 6pm. There was cool decor and some merch available to buy right as you walk in. We ordered queso for our chips and it was DELICIOUS. We both had an order of the birerria tacos and were blown away. We shared an order of the jalapeño wontons, (highly recommend). Overall, service was great, food was really fresh and amazing. Definitely worth it. read more

We love this spot because it makes you feel right at home. They have a great variety for Happy Hour and the margarita flight is a great price and just the flare to light up your day! The jalapeno popper appetizers, oh they melt right in your mouth and honestly makes me want to get a second order! I love the taco salad too. I try something new everytime and never disappoints! Orders came out quickly and we enjoyed the chips and salsa before our meal. We had the avocado margarita and another traditional margarita. Yum! For our meals we ordered the steak burrito and the Molcajete..... and if you've never had this dish, you have to try it. The best of everything in one big black volcanic bowl. Stopped in for a quick visit with some friends. Waiter was kind. Food was delicious. I had Arroz con Pollo and adult drink Diablo Mule. It was great. The decor inside was awesome.They also said they could make the drink spicy if wanted. While food, staff and drinks were great wanted to give a few tips. 1. Could be loud inside. 2. Corn tortillas can barley hold together the taco easily flop and tear, their tacos have shredded cheese and lettuce . Environment is nice, festive and fun. Hardshell tacos might as well of been out of an old El Paso box. Every side is an extra cost . Makes sense since taco Tuesday is only ground beef , shredded chicken or shredded pork which has potatoes. I've been here a few times and I can definitely say it's very consistent. I've always been welcomed with great service, friendly staff, and of course great food! I've never been disappointed. I discovered this great Mex restaurant yesterday while driving through Olympia (conveniently located off the Trosper Street exit). I was looking for breakfast, though it was 11:30. I found this place by accident. We were looking for another place and got lost and tada...there was La Patrona! It was honestly an experience more than just a meal. I LOVED this place and will be back again and again and again just because it is that great! Let's start with the food. It was delicious. I only ordered soda but the refills kept coming (thank you!). Now, make sure to look at the pictures that others took because it is such a beautiful restaurant. Go into every room and just admire all of the art. Even the restrooms are beautiful. I was in town for a couple weeks visiting my sister. I found this place close to her and I just loved it! Great selections on the menu. I returned 2 more times and even brought my sister. Half off Cadillac margs on Mondays! We sat up at the bar top each time and we were always taken care of by Lalo. He was awesome, knowledgeable and SUPER friendly. There are some new items on their menu and they are simply delish!! The first is the new Chile Rellenó which was filled with cheese and various veggies. Very traditional. Plus fried very lightly. It was as good or maybe even better than any Mexican abuelita that you know. They now also have Deep Fried Burritos. This is NOT your typical burrito and just fried up. My Deep Fried Chicken Burrito was filled with delicious shredded chicken, onion, peppers, CHEESE and more; then topped with their Queso and homemade tomatillo sauce. Second time I've been here where I've tried to speak Spanish to the waiters and they laugh in my face and speak English to me (while speaking Spanish to my boyfriend) because I don't look Mexican enough for them. The fact that this has happened twice is an issue as these were two different male servers several months apart. It costs NOTHING to be kind and speak to someone learning a new language. I'm not trying to make fun of you, I am trying to learn your language to better understand your culture. The waitress we were given after being laughed at (who was white and knew no spanish (not an issue but clearly purposeful)) was very very kind to my friend and I. You would think that a restaurant that plays music and has TVs on with no sound would play sports or some kind of animation, or something that doesn't require sound to possibly enjoy. What you wouldn't expect is to be forced to stare at a far right wing news channel called Real America's Voices - and have to look at Ted Nugent hawking his idiotic hats and banners while you're eating. I can only surmise that management wants it to be known where they stand politically. I can't imagine any other reason they'd have this channel on. It didn't even have the captions - so no sound, no captions (not that I wanted them) just good ole Ted Nugent in your face. Also, the food is bad - made worse by the politics. I had the carnitas platter, it was dry. How are you going to serve dry carnitas? The queso appetizer was runny like warm milk with a bunch of dry red pepper flakes on it. Let me start with the one positive - this place is gorgeous. The decor is spot on and you notice so many small and enjoyable design details. Unfortunately, the food was quite a disappointment. The salsa was quite sugary, my enchiladas were supposed to come stuffed with avocado (though there was none in sight), and my husband found a bone in his shredded chicken. Oh, and the "slaw" had next to no flavor which is disappointing because I thought it was going to be similar to a curtido. And none of our plates came with the little lettuce and pico mixture on the side that so often brightens up and freshens Mexican food. In fact, to add pico to your plate would have been $3.25 extra. Ugh. The cherry on top was their being out of soap in the women's restroom. read more
