I don't know how they do it, but the shell stayed perfectly intact white I munched on it. The lettuce was crisp and tasty, and the tomato was a welcome addition. I had read the reviews and it seems like their specialty is these fried burritos, which are basically a taquito. It's really not a lot of food, and ours were nothing special. If you want a quick "Mexican" snack they are okay. But otherwise I would recommend going to a "real" Mexican restaurant. read more

I have to come out and just say it. This is like my go-to place when I need food I can hold and drive without my shirt turning into an unintentional destination for sauces, flying debri and stray lettuce flakes. The soft tacos with the tart garlicky onion sour cream and beef. I WILL NEVER say no to one of those. If I am Thanksgiving dinner full, I might. But it would be a battle of the bulge and the taco just might make it in. But, what I love, is I can get a 'mini-meal' which means, awesome taco, and I get to indulge my love affair with tator tots and not break the waistline or my ability to eagerly look forward to dinner! I don't like dining in because they just don't seem to get to the tables quick enough to not have to work around someone else's meal. But, for a fast food meal, you cannot beat it and many sit down restaurants could learn something about balancing flavors for something that is truly great like their soft taco. The Manager has that team at the pulse of the community, they are polite, expeditious and eager to help you from the moment you pull into the drive through to the second they tell you to have a wonderful day. Fast food can be tedious work, it is nothing short of amazing that this team is as efficient as they are and as willing to help as you could ever want. The building is going through a remodel and it is still very neat and tidy every time I come for lunch, the cleanliness expectations and standards have risen over the past few years and they are certainly knocking it out of the park at the location in Mount Vernon. The food is great as always. Consistent with portions, taste, and everything else, including the occasional missed items. Chicken cuts could be smaller, and I wish they would open the dine in area (it has been closed due to Covid). It also causes a backup in the drive thru. I enjoy the food at Taco Time but this is another time I've been there that I've noticed that the window that they hand you your food out of is filthy. I thought everybody was doing deep cleaning because of covid-19. Not Taco Time. The window grooves where the window slides are just full of dirt and scum and grease. There were three of us in our group and all three of us arrived and ordered separately. I mention this because as we all met at our table, each one of us commented on how friendly and professional the Cashier was. Her name was Zoe and she almost made me want to work there! I feel like my fast food experiences don't typically produce a noticeable customer service experience, unless it's on the negative side. It's a hard job that many people don't want to do, and I appreciate someone that makes it look fun. The Taco Time on College Way is the only fast food that I eat even semi-regularly. If I need a quick meal to hold me over on my way to, or from the gym across the street I will hit Taco Time, and have been doing so for years. What I am amazed with is how long a few of the employees have been at this Taco Time, some of them have been there for as long as I've been stopping in. That is refreshing to see at a fast food restaurant. The food is always fresh and comes out fast. I really like the Corn Chowder, which seems to be a seasonal menu item, and yesterday when I stopped in the cashier (middle aged woman with glasses, always friendly) knew I would be let down that the Corn Chowder was no longer on the menu, I could tell by her look, because I always order it. So I tried the Tortilla Soup, which I did not find nearly as tasty as the Corn Chowder, so I wouldn't order that again, and for me that the only thing that kept my review from being a 5 star. Always great customer service, clean, and consistently good food. I always tip the cashier as well, they don't have a tip jar, they should have one. Sometimes they get a very surprised look on their face when I tip them. The way I see it, you tip your barista, you tip your waitress, why not give the fast food worker a little something to let them know you appreciate the job they do, and their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. I know its fast food, but I really enjoy Taco Time. They are fast, their food is fresh, and their prices are reasonable. I always buy the beef soft taco. The drive through is reasonably fast for a taco time. The inside is clean and the bathrooms are nice. I also like that they have a Coke Freestyle machine. I love them. Ironically, the four star rating is because something went wrong. I ordered two crisp beef burritos, a crisp beef taco, & a large Mexi fries. I hadn't eaten all day and this seemed like a perfect meal for my lone daily meal. The two burritos and the taco were fantastic. One of the reasons I'm willing to pay sit down prices for fast food, is because Taco Time does a great job. However, the Mexi fries (which are glorified tater tots,) looked as if something horrible had happened. They looked like two film companies were simultaneously filming a Friday the 13th movie AND a sequel to Platoon in a potato field. Normally, I would just accept it as punishment for eating such fatty food, but in this case I was still in the neighborhood, and so I returned with them. The manager apologized, explained that the tater tots have been, as she put it "hashbrowning," and even said she'd sent emails to corporate about the problem. She offered to replace them or refund them. I didn't feel that replacing them with more "hashbrown" tater tots would be to my benefit, and so I asked for a refund. She handled it with the utmost professionalism and courtesy. The only reason that the restaurant did not get 5 stars is because of the tater tots. Other people might have given and them 1 or 0 for something like that, but the way that they handle the entire issue made me a lifelong Taco Time eater. God save my arteries. read more

Im not sure how Taco Time does it, but their tacos shells dont fall a part when you bite into them. The food as a general rule is always consistent and fresh. They keep sending me coupons over the internet...then upon walking into their store to redeem such coupon ... they come up with excuses to not honor them. It all began when a growling and pain came from within. The trigger was set, I thought to myself, what could possibly satisfy this unwavering beast who relentlessly taunts me every 5 hours of every day? Only one place in all of Mt Vernon Shire came to mind. I left work, salivating for the goodness of what is known as the Taco Time Restaurant. Little did I know, as I left in haste, I had left behind on my desk the only weapon I had to battle this beast of hunger....My wallet, which lay on my desk calm and unaware, I was heading into battle defenseless. Fast forward in time, I am reaching for my precious while approaching the window, when I realize the peril of the situation. My last chance is hope for the apple pay, but at last no dice. The look on Jeri's and Codi's faces, one of empathy listened as I sadly told them "sorry I have no way to pay" and started to pull away. Jeri and Cody looked at each other, then after looking back at me Codi says, "we will cover it for you." Was it my sad puppy-like face? The look of total despair? Did they totally understand, I had driven all this way, waiting in line as dopamine ran through my body as I wait in expectation for my Baja tacos, crispy beef burrito, and mexi-fries? Did they imagine how the shock and sudden deep sadness hit me, when realizing I would only return to work hungry, hopeless, empty-handed and utterly shattered? I used to go to this Taco Time every week and eat their Fish Baja tacos. I am attending the college up the street and when it was closed to everyone but the drive through I was really missing the fish baja tacos. The employees used to be all really nice and it was a very pleasant place to go. A couple weeks ago a friend came from out of town, wanted to get food there, so we went through the drive through, ordered food and asked for 5 hot sauces-then drove a long time to find a place to eat by the flower fields and we had 0 hot sauce. Food was still good but I wish we would have checked. The next week I saw I could walk in-I was so happy, and so I did-I ordered my much loved fish baja tacos and told of our last visit in the drive through, no hot sauce but I said it was good all the same but I will check this time. When my order was put up at the counter I grabbed it, looked in, reached under the tacos-nothing, no hot sauce-no problem, I went back and asked for some. The woman who took my order looked at me like I was a problem, she slapped two hot sauces on the counter and said, 'they're probably underneath your tacos'. They weren't and I was nice, no need to be a bitch. Then yesterday I have a big test and I need to eat, I think, I'll get fish baja tacos and get out and walk before it gets too hot. So I walked to the place, gave the guy my order (it looked like he was new), had to say 'fish baja tacos' 3 or 4 times, he asked another person where the button was for fish tacos, she pointed, he seemed confused. He asked me for less money than I know they cost and I said repeatedly, that can't be right, it has to be more and he insisted it was right. I told him I was walking, that it was food I planned to eat to help my brain take this precalculus test. I ordered hot sauce. My food came, there was no hot sauce, I got some and I went home. The tacos were ground hamburger! Just ground hamburger and for someone expecting to see the only thing they ever order from Taco Time-fish baja tacos with white sauce and cabbage-a mass of ground hamburger looked like brown maggots. I haven't eaten ground hamburger on purpose for 30 years, it looked disgusting. I called to ask what the heck happened and the woman who answered seemed to already know the guy had ordered me beef instead of fish, even though I said fish baja over and over, and even though his higher up pointed to the fish taco button on the register, the woman who took my call said 'what's the matter, you don't like hamburger?' Where did the decent employees go? This used to be a place of kind employees and good food. If the restaurant is in the wrong, why be rude to the customer you have wronged? I still have to take these gross things back and get my money back, we'll see how that goes. I have school, it can't be today. I would have given this place 5 stars before it shut down for walk ins during covid.
