It was my first time visiting the Los Alamitos location and we were not disappointed! The staff was super friendly and our waitress was awesome! I don't remember what everyone ordered, but no one was complaining. I had the birria taco and it was delicious (they only serve one so if you're hungry get a few). We decided to come to this restaurant after my daughter's Flag Football game and it did not disappoint! The service was really good. As soon as we sat down, we are greeted with chips and salsa and they kept refilling them as we looked over the menu. The waiter, Nicholas was really nice, he was super helpful when we asked him questions about the menu. While we waited for our food, he was pretty attentive. When the food came out, everything tasted so good! It came out at the same time, and my family was pretty pleased with what we all ordered! This restaurant is close to LaHS off of the busy los alamitos street. The decor is super Vibey really cute and kind of like a local surf joint. Onto the food. I initially ordered their famous fish burrito, which I asked for grilled and it came out too fishy so I ended up swapping it out for a Carina. I saw that burrito. The best thing about this place is there free chips and salsa. It is light and airy and super tasty and unlimited. Not really a fan of their burrito I thought it was just OK. Called about Taco Tuesday. Asked how much. They told me Taco Tuesday was in house, and then I told them I would be picking them up. $4.25 each she said, which for $2 Taco Tuesdays is about right for takeout at any taco joint. Get there and the bill was $28, not $16. She said oh yeah, they're more when you take them home. This was well, after I asked how much they were for takeout. So you can see from the picture you get about $2 to $3 tacos, costing over $6 each, and enough salsa for about five chips. No thank you. I'll just go somewhere where Taco Tuesday is two bucks a taco, which is what Taco Tuesday is. The five chips worth of salsa was good, and the tacos I put Taco Bell sauce on to give them flavor. I haven't been here in years and thought let me give it another shot because it looks crowded and its still in business. Huge mistake. The food was horrible and expensive. For example, the al pastor taco had no flavor. The albondigas soup was a tiny cup served lukewarm. Fish burrito we got was probably the best of the dishes we ordered but it was mostly full of rice. Service was also lacking as drink refills and check ins were nonexistent. Take it with a grain of salt that another table was extremely demanding and rude but we weren't so it was kind of insulting. I visit Taco Surf in Los Alamitos about once a month and have generally had very positive experiences. In fact, there is a particular server there who has consistently provided fantastic service and has earned glowing reviews from both myself and my friend L. Because of those experiences, I have come to expect a certain standard of hospitality when dining here. I usually order the Baja salad with grilled shrimp, but during my most recent visit I decided to try something different and ordered two tacos, one with grilled shrimp and one with grilled chicken. Before placing my order, I specifically asked the server if both tacos could be prepared with grilled shrimp and grilled chicken, and he confirmed that they could. Unfortunately, the service we received from this mid-aged male server was noticeably lacking. While he was not overtly unfriendly, he was unapproachable and disengaged. He offered only minimal greetings, avoided meaningful eye contact, did not introduce himself, and did not offer any guidance or suggestions. He functioned strictly as an order taker rather than someone interested in creating a welcoming dining experience. After our food arrived, he did not check back to see how everything was or whether we needed anything further. He came to the table only to take our drink order, take our food order, and later drop off the check without being asked. This lack of follow-up meant there was no opportunity to address any issues while we were still eating. The grilled shrimp taco was acceptable, but the grilled chicken taco was extremely disappointing. The chicken was very dry and came with toppings I had not anticipated. While I acknowledge that reviewing the menu in detail is ultimately my responsibility, this situation reflected missed opportunities for the server to engage with us and ensure we were comfortable with our selections, especially given that I had asked questions beforehand and am a regular guest who typically orders something else. When the server finally asked how the food was after we had finished, I was honest and explained that I did not enjoy the chicken taco due to how dry it was and that I would not order it again. Shortly afterward, the manager, Alejandra, came to our table. She initially approached the situation in a friendly manner, which I appreciated. However, the conversation quickly shifted toward justifying the dryness of the chicken. She stated that I should have ordered grilled chicken to avoid dryness, and that chicken tacos are often dry elsewhere as well. Having worked in hospitality for over 30 years, I know that properly prepared chicken can and should be juicy, even in tacos. Achieving that comes down to proper cooking technique and attention to quality. She also explained that the toppings are standard and cannot be modified, which I fully understand and respect. However, what concerned me most was the overall approach to resolving the issue. Rather than expressing genuine empathy or taking ownership of my dissatisfaction, she emphasized that next time I would "know better when I come back." That statement, in particular, was surprising and disappointing to hear from a manager. A more guest-focused response would have been to acknowledge the experience and offer a simple gesture, such as removing the uneaten taco from the bill, not as a giveaway, but as a demonstration of professionalism and commitment to guest satisfaction. This experience stood in stark contrast to the excellent service I have received during previous visits. My intention in sharing this feedback is not to criticize unfairly, but to highlight an opportunity for improvement in both service attentiveness and managerial response. Taco Surf has demonstrated in the past that it is capable of delivering excellent hospitality, and I hope future visits will reflect that same level of care and professionalism. read more

I've never had an issue CLEANLINESS: This restaurant is clean, restrooms are clean( small, but clean) SERVICE: the waitress' have good service they're always attentive and always bring out the chips and salsa promptly and they are always kind FOOD: the food is always. Solid 3 /5 the chips are a hit and miss, sometimes they're hard and stale. BANG FOR YOUR BUCK: all in all it's ok.. the portion sizes are big but the taste kinda lacks. read more

My review is totally based on the food and not the service. This place has fallen off a cliff when it comes to the food. I ordered the Sea Food bowl it was nothing special but man is it pricey and the smallest portion you can think off. I also asked for a side of guacamole for it, it was brought in a small container usually used for salsa the kicker was it cost $3, I almost fell off my seat. A soda cost $4.25. If you want more bang for your buck do yourselves a favor and instead go to Wahoos or California Cosina down the street. read more

I've been going to this location for over 10 years, but i haven t been there for a moment, until last night, and this place has drastically changed. I ordered the same thing as I have always gotten since I been going there, which was one "veggie taco", with a side of beans. The bartender ( or the guy covering the bar) brings me out a "veggie wet burrito". Okay, no big deal, he made a mistake and I let him know that I didn't ordered and I think the other person in my party ordered it. He tells, me "no" that I did order it and we disagree at that moment, but than I say, okay. ill take it, what the heck. Very big mistakeon my end, the burrito was way over priced, for a tortilla filled with bell pepper, onion and tomatoes, i guess they ran out of mushrooms, priced at 17.95. and tasteless. Now i' ve been in food service for over 30 years there is no way that price can be justified. Not to mention the mole sauce on the burrito tasted more like a spaghetti sauce. Even your salsa with the chip was nothing more than a mild, watered down tomato sauce. I definately will not be returning. And just to be very clear, this is the second time thier staff tried to give me a veggie burrito when i ordered a veggie taco, big price difference. I could speculate why yourbringing out more expensive items but Illleave that up to the readers. And a note to that bartender/server working the bar, it was later confired that you did make a mistake on the order, next time you may want to just take it back and not disagree with your customers. While in Los Alamitos, lunch time was in order and tacos were on the mind. Everyone in our group was tired of eating at the same ol' places so trusty Yelp led us to Taco Surf. Each of us went in starving... And we all left stuffed!!! Between the massive burritos, the loaded tacos, and the refill after refill after refill of complimentary chips and salsa, it's a wonder none of us left there in a food coma. The food arrived timely, tasted decent, & did the job. With limited time and limited options on where to eat while in Los Al, it's nice that we now have a new place to rotate in for lunch. So I've been to this restaurant multiple times because my sister likes it however anything I have tried from here I have never enjoyed. Their salsa is very tomatoey and watery. I've gotten their enchiladas a couple times too and they are also way too tomatoey. I recently got their chicken tacos and the chicken just tasted burnt. One thing I will say is I enjoy the rice and beans and have never had a problem with the service. Really upsetting because I love the atmosphere of the place :( read more
