I've lived Paul's place ever since it was a staple in Long Beach on 2nd and now it's a foundation in Los Alamitos! Huge serving sizes! Great prices! Everyone is slate nice on the staff service and the vintage music adds a classic diner vibe to the ambiance of the place! I always get the pastrami and the fried zucchini!!!! Their burgers are also unmatched and haven't changed their serving size unlike all these other joints! I'm very happy with Paul's place and their consistency to serve our community! We're still coming here regularly - it's on our fast food rotation. Although now my husband mixes it up a bit and doesn't only get the Broasted Chicken. This week he ordered the Pastrami Sandwich special ($17.99 comes with fries) I got the Club Sandwich special ($17.49 upgraded to onion rings for $1.75) Specials come with a fountain drink but I just get ice water for myself. The onion rings used to come with a ranch dressing but now you're only offered ketchup. They have piped in classic 40's and 50's music. Great fast-food type place with good price points! Very generous portions! I ordered two sandwiches, a tuna melt and a BLT. Both were very good and served with a generous amount of lettuce. Both cooked to order. I ordered two sides, both ginormous portions, onion rings and zucchini. They also gave me there good sized containers of ranch dressing! The onion rings and zucchini paired with the ranch were excellent! I ordered everything to go and we ate at home, it all traveled very well! Parking waa easy with a large lot. We have been going to Pauls Los Alamitos since we were teenagers, we are 64 now. Food is always 5 stars, burgers and fries or zuchinni. The young man that takes our order is great. The older lady that gives us the order is mad at the world, needs retraining. When we order zuchinni we ask for 2 ranches, she always gives my wife a hard time about it. Wants to charge us even though the receipt shows we ordered 2 and we always put 2-3 bucks in the tip cup. Dealing with this older lady is almost enough to stop us from returning. Might have to start going to Volcano Burger instead. read more

It's clear that Paul's Place is a favorite among locals! Order at one of the windows and wait for your order to be called. They have lots of outdoor seating in a nice little covered patio area. I got the Club Sandwich, which is loaded! Definitely had to smash it down in order to get a bite of everything. It comes with turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and mayo between three slices of bread. Comes with a pickle spear and pepperoncini on the side. I liked that the bacon was nice and crispy! We also got a side order of mushrooms and zucchini, and both come as pretty large portions that are great for sharing. They're battered and fried, so they're perfectly crispy;. The mushrooms are whole and still maintain their juiciness. I enjoyed the zucchini as well! They also come topped with parmesan cheese to make them extra yummy! They have LOTS of online or phone orders coming in, so it took a while to get our to-go order that we placed in person. read more

If you want to wait 1 hour for a patty melt come here! I first asked Tina if i could get a patty melt in my order and she missed that. Hold this L. Angelo the guy cashier precedes to get my patty melt order on a separate ticket, but he wrote it on my first ticket for the chef. The chef then misses that and the lady calling out orders. Holy AIRBALL. Angelo gave me attitude when I said I never received my order and showed the ticket at the bottom of the receipt pile that he wrote it. Well okay genius why is there no patty melt called out the past hour. Preceded to ask for a refund which he slowly worked towards getting then they brought out the mythical patty melt. Found this place on yelp decided to try it out . Right off the bat noticed no drive through . I ordered some burgers with fries and onion rings . The burger was fire! Had a great taste the buns were nice and soft and the thousand island dressing was on point . All in all great burger . The fries were good also but the onions rings were great had a nice crispy texture and the batter was good as well . The service was cool and the outside was nice small patio vibes . I usually don't like pastrami sandwiches cuz they taste dry and cold, ie that was my experience at The Hat. But I had it here and it was tender, juicy, and hot! I loved every bite of it. I typically get the cheeseburger combo with fries and a drink but I wanted to try something different so I went with the pastrami sandwich and onion rings instead. The sandwich was huge. Easily big enough to share. However, I thought it was dry and could have used a little more flavor/sauce. I don't like pickles so I left those off and that may have changed the taste. The onion rings however were delicious! Another large serving for sharing but you might not want to. They were light, crispy and just right. I use to love the Paul's place in Buena Park so I thought I'd give the Los Al location a try. The outside atmosphere was nice. It may be minor but I ordered the taquitos with no salad. ( I don't like how the lettuce gets mixed into the beans and let's be honest it's just shredded lettuce and 4 chucks of tomato). I said it 5 times and it was written on the receipt. I open my box and there's salad. Smh bummer. It went in the trash. So the food.... Eh... the taquitos were very dry. The shell tasted powdery if that makes sense. Over all I wouldn't go back. I have no idea how, but somehow I've passed this place like 700 times and never noticed it there. A friend recently told me she had it for dinner and raved about it, described where it was and I knew all the businesses surrounding it, but it's so discreet and hidden to me that I never knew it existed. Bummer because I've had it twice since she recently told me and it was delicious both times! The service is quick and the staff is sweet. The food is so fresh and tasty and the portions are massive. I only ate about a 5th of my salad and saved the rest. My kids had a hard time deciding what to order because they have so many tasty things on the menu. So now we just have to keep going back so we can try more. :-) I hope they get some better signage or promote it somewhere or something so they get more business! This place is a mainstay of the neighborhood. :) The food is consistently good, it's your standard short order comfort food menu, but the quality is better than most other places, as is the service! The place is always clean and well kept, and it's always a chill atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. October 2025- 3.5 Stars. I stopped by Paul's Place for a BLT and some onion rings. The BLT ($6.99) was pretty good -- fresh lettuce, crisp tomato, and nicely toasted bread -- but the bacon could have been fresher and a little more generous. It had good flavor overall, but just shy of that perfect BLT balance. The onion rings ($7.99) were excellent -- crunchy, golden brown, and full of flavor without being greasy. Easily the standout item of the meal. I paired everything with a medium soda ($2.81), bringing my total to about $28 including tax for two meals. Service was friendly and quick, and diner vibe makes it a comfortable local spot for breakfast or lunch. With slightly fresher bacon, this would've been an easy four-star visit. read more

We stopped by this place last month, and when we were looking for something quick to eat we remembered it. It is a walk up restaurant where you order at the window and all of the tables are on the patio. It's a huge patio and the tables are relatively spread out. It's surrounded with pots with plants in it - - somebody clearly has a green thumb. The menu is enormous, and serves everything from Greek food ( I think that it is primarily supposed to be a Greek restaurant?? ) to Mexican food to broasted chicken. There are hamburgers and hot dogs and huge salads. There are different kinds of sandwiches and ice cream. Really there's something for everyone here. On this visit I ordered a grilled chicken salad. It was a huge salad with sliced boiled egg, half of an avocado, croutons and a grilled chicken breast. The chicken breast was absolutely delicious - - not at all dry and clearly marinated in something yummy. It came with grilled pita bread. I ordered Caesar dressing on the side, and I think it might have come from a bottle. That was the one thing I didn't love about the salad. Hubby ordered a chili cheese dog which was delicious and exactly as you would expect a chili cheese dog to be. Son ordered a patty melt. He loved the rye bread it was on, and he can be picky about rye bread. It did not come with fries, and he did not order a side. We have had the fries before and they are fine if you need more food, but this was plenty for us. We did not order the broasted chicken this visit, but we did have it last visit and I can tell you it is 100% delicious. It is a huge order though, and too big for any of us on this visit. None of us were very hungry. There seems to be a constant stream of people coming and picking up food. It's a nice little patio to sit on a on a nice night. read more

Straight up American diner food but easy to order, private parking, reasonable prices and a nice outdoor patio area. Fried Zucchini was DELISH, Philly Cheese Steak was DELISH but my 3D Burger was just ok. I appreciate a Big sized burger (granted my usual order at In&Out is a 4x4 w/ everything on it) but this burger had an old oil taste to the patties. Obviously, my taste buds didn't like that. But the menu is big enough to try again! I'm looking forward to another order of fried zucchini and perhaps adding fried mushrooms too. They have many salads as well for those of you who like to eat raw veggies. Side note: I would have appreciated a side of pickles with my burger/sandwich order. After driving by Paul's Place every time I'm in Los Alamitos, the hubs and I finally made it to this establishment for a quick lunch date. We both got the Cali burger combo. I got mine with onion rings (the photos on Yelp looked so good) and an horchata to drink. The hubs got his with fries and a rootbeer. Everything was delicious and then some. Neither of us could finish our meal but had very happy bellies. We called in our order as we were driving up. This was key to having our food ready as we pulled up to the pick-up counter. There was a line of at least 5 parties in front of us. We found parking in their lot. Their dining room is very welcoming and comfortable. Will definitely return! read more

We usually go to the Paul's Place in Cypress (love it!) but decided to enjoy this "outdoor only" Paul's with it's garden setting & canopy cover. The boyfriend enjoyed the Double Cheeseburger with Fries & a Coke ($16.49). The burger is messy but that's because it's a hefty amount of...well...everything, featuring a delicious charbroiled flavor. The fries were both crispy & tender. Compared to the burger my Paul's Greek Chicken Plate is health food! Actually it is a good "on the healthy side" choice as the 1/2 chicken is rotisserie style & comes with a fresh salad featuring black olives a few feta cheese chunks. You also get some pita bread triangles & choice of Fries or Rice. I chose rice. It's more like a tasty pilaf & the portion is generous! You can use it as a side dish for another meal. The chicken plate is $13.99. Prices like this have become the norm but at least the food offers tasty quality & it's not skimpy. I haven't tried one but their shakes look really good! You order at the window & pick up when they call your number. Service was friendly & efficient. There are several parking spots along the side & back. 50 's classic music completes your casual dining experience whether choosing take-out or staying & kicking it al fresco. read more

I have gone to at least 3 locations, maybe more. It is always terrific and generous. My son and I shared a Pastrami sandwich and a Mushroom burger with fries. The best Pastrami anywhere and I have tried them everywhere. Thick and lean. The Burger was more than excellent too. Have been to the Los Alamitos location for Paul's several times. I've found it's helpful to phone in a to-go order to minimize wait time. They do tend to get busy. Last time I was in I got the club sandwich. It was very good. Food here is generally very good and gets the job done. I have, in the past, gotten the twister fries when I've had a hankering for them. They're usually very good but you pay $8.50 for a box of fries that could feed a family of 4-5. Is there some reason there's no size that's appropriate for one person at a lesser price? I've literally stopped ordering the Twister Fries because of the cost and the fact I end up throwing most of them out. Anyway, the food is good. I've never eaten on the patio here but a lot of people seem to. Prices are.... I guess what we've been forced to consider acceptable in a post-COVID world. We were going to stop at volcano burgers but the line was so long! I decided to search another burger spot in the area and Paul's place popped up on Google. We decided to drive here since it was only 3 mins away and were super hungry. As soon as we pulled up, the sign looked nice and cute, and sure enough, the outdoor dining area was very nice and cute. It gave me a Disneyland diner feel. They also played oldies style music! It gave a good old school feel, all while feeling like you're at a romantic restaurant. They only have outdoor seating and they have 2 restrooms which are pretty small, but clean. The toilet nearly touches the wall. The food was great! The burger was good. The fries were perfectly crisp and seasoned. WITHOUT HAVING TO ASK! My bf's club sandwich was good as well! I think the portions are great. $28 for my cheeseburger combo and his club sandwich alone.
