One thing I absolutely love, is Menudo when i'm feeling a bit under the weather. This place has phenomenal food PERIOD. I went here 2 Saturdays ago and allergies were killing me, I ordered a bowl of Menudo. In Austin good menudo is a rarity, perhaps only a few authentic places serve it right, and I don't mean any of those corporate america Tex Mex BS chains we have here in Austin either... The bowl was Large, they brought it to me still hot, and the amount of tripe and everything in there was bountiful. I mean there was a lot, and that's what I love, large portions! I've been to some Mexican restaurants were they will give you a skimpy amount of food, barely any tripe, the broth is so clear and unseasoned it's like salty water with barely any chili. Oh hell no, not here. You want good menudo and stop by, Definitely top 5. As for other food here, it's phenomenal as well, tostadas, tacos, you name it. First restaurant worthy of Yelping since I joined about a month ago. Nice folks, good service, good prices, clean, and great, authentic Mexican food... just ask the full house of apparently Mexican customers. The wait staff speaks sufficient English to cater to us Gringas (well half Gringa in my case). I've lived in many big cities with lots of cultural diversity, but until very recently have not considered Austin to be one of those "good authentic food cities". This restaurant is amazing. The steak tacos are a perfect choice if you're craving beef, but if you want something more filling, the sope is the way to go. It's a puffy pastry with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, cheese, and meat of choice. If you go on a day that you are feeling under the weather, the Consume De Pollo would be a good choice. It is a chicken soup with rice, shredded chicken, and carbanzo beans. As for the restaurant, there is a inclosed indoor area, and a partially inclosed outdoor area which is good for cool night such as tonight. I gave it a four instead of five stars because I am terrible at speaking Spanish and the menu isn't completely translated. There were some soups that I didn't know what they were as well as a few other menu items. Overall; great authentic Mexican food and pleasant staff. Will be back for sure. read more

My husband being Thai and me being a terrible Mexican with little Spanish, the employees are always so nice and try their best to understand my bad Spanish. My husband and I try to go as often as we can, my favorite sauce is the creamy green one and one of the reds. He always orders 2 sopes 1 al pastor and 1 chicken, I try to order something different everytime, the only thing I don't like is that all the tortas come with beans but that's an easy fix. This place can be a bit confusing for someone who's a) never been here before and b) doesn't speak a word of Spanish. For one, driving up to this place or around it, there's a possibility you might wonder where the entrance is. Sometimes they take your order from a table and you pay the server, and sometimes you just walk to the front and pay with your ticket. I haven't quite figured out their way of doing things, but I just go with it. Everyone who works here is super nice. The menu is in English and in Spanish. I'd highly recommend coming with someone who knows some Spanish. Luckily I read and understand Spanish better than I can produce it. They may pretend to know what you're saying and nod, but they probably don't, so I'd suggest if you really care about getting exactly what you ordered, make the server repeat what you ordered. I've been twice and they misunderstood and got the order wrong both times, even while ordering in Spanish. I said "to go" and they did not understand this. Next time, it's just going to be me putting my best Spanish foot forward, with my grammatically incorrect /Spanglish tongue. "IRSE A CASA, por favor." Shoot, they even made us some huevos rancheros, which isn't even on the menu. He said no meat and she thought he said no beans. Me: "No, no quiere carne, quiere frijoles." I asked for avocado on my taco and I didn't get it. Didn't bother to complain though. On a recent Sunday morning, we came here for breakfast. Never have I been anywhere in Austin on a weekend where a place was FULL before 10am. We were the only people in there with an ounce of Anglo in us. Although, I will argue that it was a Sunday Funday, just in a different context. We sat outside on the patio and we got to experience some live music, and yes one of the musicians had an accordion. With the 3 caballeros harmony in perfect sync, it was quite enjoyable and made me feel like I wasn't in Austin at all. Sometimes you just gotta appreciate the atmosphere, whatever it may be. The salsa bar is amazing, as everyone has already clearly stated. My favorite is the creamier green salsa and adding radishes and different onions with a squeeze of lime. I can't account for most of the menu, but the breakfast tacos are fantastic and so are the fresh flour tortillas. Also, I'm pretty sure they'll make you whatever you want even if its not on the menu. After feeling the love that Tracey S. gave (gives) this place, I just had to try it. I must say I had a Matamoros moment in that I was blown away by the quantity/ quality of the food. This is a true Mexican place that ain't influenced by good ole "Tex". I don't know about you guys, but, I get tired of Tex-Mex, and, am happy when I stumble upon these kinds of places. The pastor on corn rocks! The salsa kicks ass, and, the service is on the spot. I'm not crazy about buffets, but, these guys have a salsa bar going on which they keep stocked fresh with salsa and various veggies, like cucumber. I love cucumbers, they are good for eliminating sodium from you body, and, like Tracey S. pointed out, they cool the sizzle on the tongue after all that salsa! I get my goat on at Taco More. While the goat taco is good (but not as good as La Fruta Feliz's), it must be said that the consome de cabrito is spectacular. For $2.50, you get a 12oz cup full of the rich and bold broth. Lurking at the bottom is a generous amount of shredded meat and chickpeas. I think I need to preface this appropriately. I am a taco snob. I grew up in San Diego and consider myself an authority on good Mexican food. Most of the Mexican food in Texas (I have lived in Dallas, Houston and now Austin) is horrible and the guacamole is disgusting. There is no flavor to the Mexican food in this state. It is almost impossible to get queso blanco in Austin. Queso is not yellow, its white. And fish tacos, jesus I would kill for a good fish taco and not one made with mudfish like tilapia. Ok, rant aside, I lent a friend my truck for the day and to say thank you they took me to Taco More. I am always up to try new things and was thinking it was going to be another austin taqueria. I even asked if it was a food truck because I had never heard of it. When we got there, I had high hopes. It has the atmosphere of authentic. The menu is dual language and they have what I consider more of the authentic meats available. The one thing I did not see was sesos, but they did have cabeza and cabrito(more on this shortly). They have a decent salsa bar but being a taco snob, the salsa is a topping, not meant to overpower the taco anyways. I prefer sweet red salsas over the more potent verde salsas. We order some fresh guacamole. And it is fresh with big chunks of avocado. The right blend of cilantro and lime juice. I prefer more onions but it was good guac. The chips are out of a bag so that is somewhat disappointing. The Guac is good overall, but considering this is Texas and Good Guac usually stops at the border, its great for Texas. I ended up getting 4 tacos. Pollo, Carnitas, Cabrito and Pastor. The Chicken(Pollo) was middle of the road, but good. Not greasy. The Pork(Carnitas) was also delicious and not greasy at all. The Marinated Pork(Pastor) was excellent. A bit greasy but I can forgive for the flavor. Its not overpowering but it is infused throughout the meat. The Goat(Cabrito), omg the GOAT! It was probably the best goat I have had in a decade. I spent some time in south america in the 90's in the military and goat was a favorite dish of mine. This brings back all of those wonderful meals. The goat was sweet and cooked perfectly. I dont know what they cooked it in, but I now have a favorite taco in Austin. I want more Taco More! read more

so, we live in a new 'hood. it's a bit different than our previous hyde park scene, but we're getting into it. one of the ways we're embracing our new locale is by trying the eateries. taco more is like 2 minutes away and it's a treat. i picked up chicken and carnitas tacos with chips and salsa and those bitches were incredible. they were also dirt cheap. here's the deal: i was intimidated by the fact that i didn't really know what/how to order. and, i was overwhelmed by the fact that there were people everywhere in that restaurant, yet no one was helpful in indicating where i needed to go to place a to-go order. i'm also a big fan of goats as living, breathing animals, so i was a wee bit freaked to see goat tacos on the menu (so sue me, i'm not anthony bourdain), even though i didn't order them because i'm kind of a puss sometimes. but that's it. i'll go back there (maybe even tomorrow). i'll eat something delicious that i'll probably feel a little uncomfortable about and it will be awesome. read more
