Words cannot express how much I liked this place, but I'll try! I've had Taco Libre bookmarked for a while, so I was stoked when someone suggested to dine here. The decor is, in my opinion, unique. They kind of stick with the lucha libre theme and have the masks and wrestlers as the decor. Much to my amazement, they have some special drinks that are BOGO all day every day!!!! Margaritas and Micheladas were two that I remember. Who does buy a beer get a beer?! Let alone bogo margaritas! I am obsessed with Mexican food, both Americanized and traditional. I was excited to see Americanized items as well as several authentic items. (Tacos de lengua, horchata and tamales to name a few.) I opted for the enchiladas and devoured my food, everything was truly fantastic. I can't wait to go back and try more items! We were in at an odd time of the afternoon, so the place was empty. The waitress never missed a moment. She replaced/refilled drinks as needed and was able to answer our questions about the menu to help us order. It's in a little space in the strip mall before San Pablo as you're heading toward the beach, and somewhat tucked away but can easily be found once you're in the parking lot. It's kind of like La Nopalera and TacoLu, but on a smaller scale and more laid back but still friendly. They had the 2 for 1 Coronas today, and I had one of their tacos, the "Surf & Turf". Well, well...what a pleasant surprise!! I was looking for a good place to eat near the Mayo Clinic while my husband was having surgery. All I can say is WOW!! The best tacos I think I've ever eaten! I had a Chorizo taco and the specialty steak and shrimp taco. Both were absolutely delicious. It's a little hole in the wall located in a strip mall so I wasn't expecting such authentic Mexican food! My California Burrito was amazing. I'm a big guy. 6'4" and 350lbs. When a $12 burrito is two very filling meals for me, thats a heck of a deal! The decor was awesome with tons of pictures of lucha libres. Extremely clean, during this covid-19 pandemic. Everything was spotless. Didn't even ask and they brought my last drink to go. We went here after church a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. I judge a taco joint by the big three.......al pastor, carnitas, and asada. I had all three and was very impressed. I also had a side of beans and rice....also very good. The endless chips and salsa were very good, warm and fresh. My kids had the California burrito and my wife had the fajitas. All the food was very good, hot and freshly made. The guacamole and sauces were home made and the service was excellent. My family and I will be back for sure. read more

Taco Libre liberated my taste buds from mediocre tacos and queso! The chips were crispy and thin, but not too thin. Salsa was really authentic and queso was what i love- creamy and rich cheese flavor, with a nice medium spice kick. Plus unlimited chips is never bad. Tacos were really well made, quality ingredients. Shrimp taco great, except we didn't like the deep fried one with buffalo sauce and ranch. .. but maybe that's your thing. Mr. potato head & carne asada great. Al Pastor was ok, but missing that pineapple sweetness I generally look for. Rice & beans also good and traditional. Service great, loved the vibe inside. I was lead to this place by other Yelp reviewers, and had high hopes for this place. I stopped in for lunch, thankfully ahead of the lunch crowd. I was instantly greeted by a friendly person behind the counter, so I placed my order at the counter, and then sat down. When I noticed others giving their orders table-side, I realized I had mistakenly ordered at the counter (intending to eat in versus carry out), so I made sure to inform the gal behind the counter of that and where I was seated. I have to be honest, I was feeling a little ignored by not having ordered table-side. Everyone around me was getting water, drinks and chips & salsa right away. The beverage I ordered came in a styrofoam cup, and I had to ask for my chips and salsa. While I can't remember the exact names of the tacos, one was a beef steak and the other was a fish taco. The items arrived in a styrofoam container, with plastic silverware, and were very unimpressive-looking. Looking around, other patrons had regular plates and silverware (and do I dare mention the lizard on the back of the chair next to me?). Flavor-wise for both tacos were kinda "meh" for me--certainly not anything that stood out! The fish taco was especially disappointing because I was expecting a piece of fresh fish. The fish had separated itself from the outer batter, making it's own "sack" for the fish, which was even more telling that it was batter-dipped and previously frozen. One Yelp reviewer stated that this place was better than Taco Lu's. I don't agree, and I definitely over-tipped in advanced for having had disappointing service. read more

This place definitely has room for improvement. Not exactly sure how it has so many 4/5 star reviews. To start, I asked the waitress for the draft beer options and simply put, they don't have draft beer. Then I asked for the bottled beer options and she mentioned what she could remember off the top of her head with uncertainty (overall, not a great selection). On to food, my husband and I ordered the specialty tacos which were average, and I'm being nice (if you prefer corn tortillas you must request them as they automatically come on flour tortillas) . They weren't the best tasting/quality tacos we've had. The fish taco looked more like minced fish and the steak tacos, well, let's just say the meat looked like little niblets. On a lighter note, my son ordered the West coast burrito and it was way better than the tacos. I recommend it if you have a large appetite. It's a large burrito with chicken, fries (yes, fries), cheese, pico, guac, and sour cream. It also comes with a side of chips and nacho cheese dip. We also ordered one ceviche tostada and it was good, way better than the tacos for sure! All in all, we most likely won't be back. There are better authentic places around town. read more

Your food when I first moved here was the closest taste of home I could get but I must say over the last three years quality has dropped. You've changed tortillas to something of a lower caliber, and it might pass for the Gringos that don't know any better but not to those of us that KNOW. the true atrocity has come from the ceviche. The general mix is still good, but instead of serving it in the lime juice, at this point it's evident you've started serving it in water mixed with drops of lime...it's disappointing the closest thing I had to a taste of home has resorted to this but I guess the timing worked out.... read more

First time at this little place! Don't let that fool you. Huge flavor! Authentic that can't be found in a lot of other places. Free chips and perfectly spicy salsa. We tried 5 different tacos and a tostado. All were satisfyingly delicious. Can't wait to try more next time and that will be on Taco Tuesday. $2.50 regular tacos and $2.99 specialty tacos. This is my first time here and I found the place on Yelp because I love Mexican food and the reviews are pretty positive overall. My impressions are more neutral than anything as it's decent here but it's just not Mexican food. One issue that immediately struck me is the lack of seasoning in the food. Where is the cumin, cayenne or chili pepper? I had the West Coast Burrito as it had things I like and I figured it would be a safe option to try just in case. It's wasn't bad, it's just bland. The burrito was cut in the middle to show the guacamole and the sour cream in the middle but it was only in the middle of the burrito and not on the sides. The guacamole was so overwhelmed with onion flavor that it was really off-putting (and I love onions!). My wife and friends all tried tacos and all seemed to enjoy them, but weren't overwhelmed or anything. Service was good. The place was clean but for some reason someone decided to spray paint or something and it was really bad for about ten minutes. In summation it was decent, but this was not a winning visit and I don't think I'd go back. read more
