This new location rocks. It's my little prize on my way to work when I need to coax myself out of bed (don't judge!). I've been inside to peep the fresh, updated interior, but I typically use the convenient drive-thru, and it's never super busy, unlike the chicken place next door. Potato Oles are my downfall, so I usually order either a scrambler breakfast burrito with sausage (I normally prefer bacon, but theirs can be on the chewy side and I hate when it gets stuck in my teeth) or, lately, I've been getting the Ole Scrambler breakfast bowl. Today I skipped the meat and added extra scrambled eggs, and it was perfect! Cheesy and salty and just enough fresh tasting pico to make it feel like a Mexican food treat. I end up with leftover oles at the bottom, so I save them for the next day's breakfast in my air fryer. read more

Went to Taco John's last night because I use to work there and use to be good food. Prime word USE to be good food. I ordered over $48 worth of food for my family, when I got to the window to pay the guy at the window with his black finger nail polish was cold and not welcoming. I asked to have the food divided into 2 bags as it was going to 2 different households. I could see the guy turn around and complain to his coworkers that I have asked for the world by having the order divided. RUDE MUCH!!! As I am sitting in the drive thru window I watch this guy dump his personal pop and scoop his dirty cup into the ice bin to get more ice into this cup. GROSS!! I asked for hot and mild sauce. $48 worth of food I got 3 packets of sauce. I had to ask for part of my order since I could see it still sitting on the make table. He acted like again I had asked for the world or winning lottery numbers. I will never go back to this store again. I will drive out of my way to find good food and nicer people. If Diane and Pat still own this store you really need to get your people in line. Many health code violations going on here at this store. I've decided to update the review once again and say that I think Taco John's on 1st Avenue is as good as it gets! They are doing a terrific job. First of all, we need to keep things on a level playing field. There are not a lot of fast Mexican food options so basically, it's TJs and the other place (with the bell and lots of purple colors). To judge against anything else would be unfair. This Taco John's (unlike the other location in CR) is very spacious. It's kept immaculately clean, and the service is consistently fast and friendly. Every employee has been friendly and really seems to be having fun at his/her job. That can make a big difference. After many visits in the last month or so, I feel good about giving this place top marks for how a customer will be treated and the taste of the food. The value is on a par with the competiton too. Add in the salsa bar and it's a better value. I still love that pico de gallo. I mentioned one time that I've been a customer since the early 1990s. You know what is different now? They are FASTER and more efficient at handling a rush thanks to the computers. I can come here at 11:30 in the middle of the lunch rush and still get tasty food very quickly. I love it. It's definitely the employees, service, and cleanliness that really sets this place apart. I like coming here and apparently so do the customers. Taco Johns seems to be picking up a lot of business recently. That's great to see. read more

This is a great taco franchise operated efficiently and cleverly located at a unique location nowadays far away from other fast food locations. I've done the drive thru and the sit dOwn and have always been treated great wIth excellent service. The expanded breakfast menu adds flavor to a treaty menu. I prefer anything wIth the potato ole. read more

I was very surprised how good the late night drive thru service was. I am use to the "taco bell drive thru situation"... Which is a bunch of drunk people trying to order food. The food was hot and quick. Plus who doesn't love potato oles and nacho cheese sauce. The service didn't use to be this good maybe they are stepping things up. read more

I looked on the menu and they had gotten rid of the Super Bean Burrito. How could they? I really enjoyed that one. I was pretty much here because there was a church that needed donations and by buying something, a portion went to the church. I really love the Potato Oles. Especially with cheese sauce. It's a good, greasy time. The ice tea was terrible. I had to switch to water. Other than that, it was just okay. read more

7:45 a.m. I rolled through the drive-thru yesterday, ordering a Spicy Chorizo Breakfast Burrito. $3.20 I was shocked when I took a bite and got nothing but extremely spicy pickled jalapeno slices. I took another bite, thinking it was just uneven. Same thing. So I unrolled it and found it was half full of the pickled jalapenos. I tasted the meat to see if it was Chorizo. It was the usual mystery meat crumbles, commercial scrambled eggs and an orange water that seeped out of it. I am guessing the orange water was supposed to be some sort of cheese sauce? It had no flavor other than that of pickled jalapenos. You have been warned people. There is no Chorizo. It is false advertising. If you enjoy a spicy jalapeno pickle roll up, then by all means, order this, but watch out for the woody stems. They are quite hard to chew and swallow. Most disgusting food I have had in a long time. This is not the first time I have had poor quality food from this location. In fact, nearly every time. Taco Bell on 1st ave is so much better since they remodeled and added healthier menu options! read more

For fast food, its pretty good; better than Taco Bell in my opinion. Definitely not sit-down restaraunt quality, but I like to go there once in a while. I like the Combination Burritos and Potato Oles. read more

We love Taco John's- a wonderful fast food choice that our entire family enjoys---- HOWEVER this particular establish had some of the worst service I have ever had at a Taco John's... Matter of fact anywhere. When I went up to the counter the woman just stated at my kids and I. I just stood there- then she asked me if I needed something. We placed our order and as I was finishing up- I realized I ordered for the kids but not myself. I then told her what I wanted and she said- I am sorry I wasn't listening to you. Then after ordering two out of four in my party wanted root beer and it was out. I politely asked if they could restock the root beer because it was out. The employee rolled her eyes and said it would be a while. I then asked if she could fill it from the dispenser at the drive thru. She said they ran on the same system, rolled her eyes and me and snapped orders. Regardless of how rude the workers were the food was good. We however wouldn't recommend nor will we go back to this Taco John's instead we will drive over to the one on Edgewood. read more

I just moved back to cedar rapids from west coast and we didn't have taco johns there, so I was excited to eat there.... I asked it they still had the taco Tuesday deal and the girl on the intercom said " yes, we have hard hell and bean burritos for $.79 each." they just totally lied to my face, well...I bought some, not realizing I paid too much, being from the coast I'm used to paying high prices. And the tacos they gave me were just basically shells, barley any filling at all. I'm taking them thieves to court......! (It's not about the money now) read more
