Happened to be in Iowa Cory for work...and had a free afternoon and drive up to Cedar Rapids to try another bucket list food item for me...Iowa's infamous Loose Meat Sandwich. And aptly named Loosies seemed to fit the bill! This is a very small spot off the road... it when I walked in the staff was smiling and very welcoming...true midwestern warmth! A small restaurant with seating at small tables (1-3 people), counter and stool seating (similar to a bar). I sat at the counter. There were two friendly ladies on and the lunch crowd was coming in and out. I had a fountain root beer. Potato salad - loved it. Properly named as it had more potatoes than onions. Mayo and vinegar based which I had never had. I LOVED it. If you don't like vinegar, you may not like it but I recommend at least trying it. It's GOOD. Mac n cheese - it was slightly spicy and had a touch of herb flavor. I didn't see cayenne in it or taste jalapeños so it must've been something else. It had the right amount of cheesy gooeyness that all Mac n cheese should have. It was good. Mega Loosie - a tasty loose meat sandwich. I had ketchup, mustard and onion on it but there were other toppings. I'm sure it would be good with some sriracha or jalapeños on it as well. It felt like a family cookout with the food choices. Being from out of town, I always like to try local restaurants. This is one for the books. The people are extremely nice and friendly and their food is excellent!l. Their restaurant may be small, but is extremely clean. I ordered their loose meat sandwich with no bun, add pickles, onions, mustard, and cheese. One word describes my meal: DELICIOUS! Also, I ordered their unsweet tea which was extremely good - esp when compared to some of the nasty unsweet tea I get in NC. A quaint tiny little shop, Loosies serves hot and fast loose meat sandwiches. Never had a loose meat before but the name is accurate. This is a messy sandwich you want to be sitting down to eat. Meat was well seasoned and the trio of ladies working today were a hoot. The Mac and cheese is heavily seasoned. Not a huge fan but nothing that lessened my experience. I visited their food truck at Food Truck Fridays in Hiawatha. I had tots and a loosie. Very greasy, just how you would want and expect from a sandwich like this. The meat was moist and delicious. Always looking for a good loose meat, I have this place a try. It's really a cute place in a small wood cabin type building. The parking was not great. Not a lot of places and pretty tight to try and maneuver around. I tried the loose meat with cheese and was pretty disappointed. I ordered it with just ketchup and mustard and it came with everything. Actually almost more onions than meat. I thought the meat portion was very scant and tasteless. The staff was friendly and the place was unbelievably clean. I rather the bar overlooking the street which was fine since I like to people watch. While it wasn't terrible, I thought they were pricey for what I got. Probably won't be going again. read more

Went here on a whim today after driving by on my way home from work. Staff were very friendly and greeted me and gave me the rundown of the menu and what all the options were. Inside was clean but with pretty limited seating (maybe 13 stools around the center where they cook, a couple two person tables off to the side and a bar facing the street). Restroom was clean and serviceable. Ordered the loosie with all the condiments with potato salad while my wife ordered one with only pickle, food was ready promptly and was downright delicious. My only regret was not ordering the larger "mega loosie"! After scarfing down my meal in short order I had a chocolate malt which was pretty good while my wife had a tollhouse pie (from Kathy's pies). Overall a clean and excellent restaurant with no real competition around its location, very friendly staff and great food. No question I'll be coming back to try the hot dog or egg sandwich! read more

I ordered a loosie sandwich, Mac & cheese with meat and a cherry shake online at 125pm on Saturday. It told me my food would be ready at 145pm. I arrived at 144pm and was the only person besides the server inside. At that point the girl asked what I would like. I said I would like to pick up my online order. She proceeded to look at the order and began making my items. The meat was dry. The mustard was in a bowl on the counter where at least a dozen flies were flying around. The cherry shake tasted like vanilla, not even a hint of cherry. When the Mac & cheese was done being microwaved, she bagged it up. I asked her if there was beef on it and then she added it. I spent an extra 10 minutes waiting for food to be prepared once I got there. Needless to say this was my first and will be the ONLY time I visit this place. read more

Ordered lunch takeaway from Loosies today for the first time. Easy to order,customize and pay on line. Chili dog was great! Grilled delicious hot dog with a cup of homemade chili to pour over at home. Chili was tasty with a little kick at the end. Mega Loosie was tasty and not greasy. Good quality hamburger for sure. Y'all!! First off the food coma was real after Loosies!! This quaint little place features an exhibition kitchen where you can sit and watch them cook your food! I've been here 3 times now and the new item on the menu is a grilled tenderloin and y'all, this is the best tenderloin I have ever had! The cook it fresh! This is what a Maid Rite, errrrrr, loose meat sandwich is supposed to look at taste like. These are the sandwiches I grew up devouring at my local M*** R*** before they became corporatized, changed cooking methods, and lost what maid them great. This place makes its own take on the "loose meat sandwich" or "loosie", an Iowa delicacy of loose ground beef (think sloppy joe without sauce) on a bun with your choice of toppings. I'm not super familiar with this dish, but I found it a bit dry and flavorless. The chili dog special, on the other hand, was excellent. The house chili was sweet and they griddled the hot dog nicely. We tried both of the main sides (potato salad and pasta salad), and both were great! Desserts are brought in from local favorite Kathy's Pies. I tried the tollhouse pie (think a big chocolate chip cookie in a pie shell) and really liked it. The locals I was with, however, thought the pies tasted a bit stale and less flavorful than the pies they buy directly from Kathy's. So, in short, skip the loosie and maybe also the pie, and chow down on chili dogs and pasta and potato salad instead! read more

Phenomenal food, fast and friendly service! Loosies is an upscale, clean, homey kind of neighborhood joint that welcomes one and all. When I say upscale, I mean modern, forward thinking and urban - not prices or attitude. As far I can see, no one has commented on the compostable cups they use. This shows an extra level of care for our environment and the area in which we live. Clearly, they thought through their business model and showed they care about more than the dollar. We stopped at Loosies on a road trip up to MN. My boyfriend grew up on "made rights" sandwiches in MN and found this adorable diner that had these; they call them "loosies". This was my first time having them and I must say that I was very impressed. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and he was in heaven! The loosies were amazing, the baked beans were to die for; we shared a chili dog that was out of this world and finished off the meal with a slice of homemade banana cream pie that was delicious!
