My boyfriend enjoyed his birria burrito and said it was filling and a good portion. The guacamole needed salt but came with an overload of chips. The woman, with an attitude, there said there was nothing she could do, that only a manager could do something and she didn't know when a manager would be there. The counterperson used her finger to put guacamole on my tacos, but let me cut the chase, the problem seems to be horrendous management. I ordered my meal (fish tacos with guacamole), paid for it, and was told to wait twenty minutes. I did. Fast forward to when I get there. They messed up the order. I had heard quite a bit about the place for years and finally tried it. My overall take was "meh". I ordered take out, in a quest to support local business and my son came home with a steak burrito bowl. It was very average. The steak itself was not bad, a nice marinated taste but there was hardly any of it in the bowl. One does much better at Chipolte. The same for the rice, which was no more than sprinkled in the bowl at the bottom. Instead one found filler stuff, mostly beans and lettuce throughout. Slow decline over the years. I've lived in Warwick since 2007 and was thrilled when they first opened. Everything was perfect. I wish I could say that for it currently. Let me start by saying the staff is dismissive and usually eating behind the counter. They also changed the portions and the amount of guacamole you get for an extra $2.50 is insulting. The prices also used to be reasonable. Don't be surprised if you end up spending $20+ for what you thought was going to be a quick meal. I miss the old Taco Hombre. Prompt service, somewhat friendly staff (a couple ppl couldn't seem to be bothered). Place is pretty open and spacious, but could use a little more of that homey feeling. However, that being said, the thing that disappoints most is the food- its lack of flavor and authenticity. I'm no Mexican food expert, but have traveled to Mexico, have eaten amazing food, and some of the best tacos I've had are here in NY. I think Taco Hombre has the potential to be a killer joint, but it lacks the marinated seasoning that makes Mexican food so good! I had "shredded" taco cheese, and I think the white, crumbly cotija cheese is way better. There's really no use of lettuce in tacos, so eliminating that option and having extra cilantro as a staple would take the flavor level up! Guacamole is on point, but could use more cilantro, jalapeño and maybe diced tomatoes or white onion. Hate sounding SO picky. Real pico de gallo would kick it up a notch, too! I tried giving this place a second chance but was just as disappointed as the first time. It is set up similarly to a Chipotle or qdoba, but it's not a chain. You choose your meat, toppings, and shell and they make it for you. The food is always cold. The meats sit out in metal tubs and don't appear to be warmed at all. I can't even tell you how unappetizing watery chicken is that is also cold and makes the shell extremely soggy and impossible to hold. Both times I have had this experience where I ended up eating my tacos with a fork and knife. Their prices are also pretty crazy for fast food, very Americanized Mexican. My first experience at taco hombre was by far one of the best Mexican experiences I've had on the East Coast. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla with corn tomato and guacamole. It took 10 minutes to grill the shrimp which did not seem to be previously frozen. The quesadilla came out very crispy and fresh. It was the biggest quesadilla I have ever seen and could not eat the whole thing in one sitting. We also ordered chips and guacamole. The chips did not seem like the best chips they could've offered but the amount of guacamole given was very fair and generous This is definitely a little gem in a little gem of a town.
