We actually had a frightening experience here and I would like to warn others, especially people who may be LGBTQ+. I (a woman) came in with my mother today wearing matching clothes. We look similarly aged and I believe the man behind the counter thought that we were a couple. While taking our order, he was muttering to himself, which I assumed was a mental health thing until we heard him say, "I've been waiting on one of these to come in." That on its own seems slightly threatening, but I wrote it off and continued to be nice and pay for our food. He continued to mutter to himself throughout the transaction. We sat down and eventually he was the one to bring our tray out. He continued to mutter under his breath and then he went to clean a table right next to ours. His muttering then sounded agitated and got slightly louder and I heard him say, "... BECAUSE IM A CONSERVATIVE..." twice, and at that point I felt like we might be in a bad situation. I was so uncomfortable that I kept my eye on him for the rest of our visit, and even felt scared when I went to use the restroom. From reading previous reviews, it looks like this employee has been at this location for at least 9 months, so I don't expect management to do anything about it. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends and would strongly advise against any LGBTQ+ people from coming here. The food was normal. First off, it's really hard to hire in Bastrop. For anything. But: 1) this Taco Cabana runs out of stuff like beans and fajita meet by noon. BEANS. It's a MEXICAN FOOD RESTAURANT. 2) the drive through is exceptionally slow and once you are in it, you can't leave. It makes going to Taco Bell tempting which is ridiculous because Taco Bell sucks. Two major complaints. First and foremost, "shrinkflation" has hit this location hard. Breakfast tacos are now appearing on tortillas that are, at best, charitably classified as street taco sized. And whether it's remaining caution from COVID or cost control (perhaps both), there are no condiments available for self service. The staff keeps everything in the kitchen now. Also, the staff has zero interest in serving you, especially for dining in. Someone passed me twice and never offered to help me, then mentioned that someone else would take my order. This is the worst taco cabana location ever. First, the flauta plate did not have a guacamole salad, just lettuce, so we asked for a side thinking they were included And I was mistaken about a guac salad. They weren't apparently but the manager didn't want to budge on that even in the name of customer service. Then when I went online to verify it turns out he over charged us for the sides as well. So no guacamole included and overcharged for sides and then the beans tasted like water. Not runny beans, but literal bean flavored water. Disgusting. Here's the thing that infuriates me about thus TC. It's only mission is to serve food, yet it is always out of items. Right now it's big lids, and Dr. PEPPER. Last week it was bacon, sausage, and cheese. In the post it's been eggs, tea, sweet n low, plates, forks, etc. If the person that orders supplies can't understand how to forecast the sites needs then perhaps he should "over order" so they don't run out. At first this was to be a 2 star. I have stopped here before. I got a Huevos Mexicana plate and the Lady a shredded beef taco. Even with adding a bunch of the sauces it did not have the same flavor as a number of the small taco trucks I frequent. The tortillas are still great, as are the sauces, but they seemed toned down a bit. The scrambled eggs (I may be wrong about this), did not seem like fresh eggs slapped on the grill and scrambled, but rather that "bag or box of already scrambled eggs in a bag to use in some low cost hotels and restaurants. The place was clean, orders came quickly, but what kicked it up a star was a hard-working young lady who ran the cash register, and when no one was in line, washed her hands and was constantly refilling sauces and keeping that counter spotless. In between that, if she had a moment was helping bring out orders. She was cheerful and seemed quite happy to have a job. Watch the traffic pattern there. It is a bit scary. read more

I really wanted to love this place but I am sorry to say, it really wasn't worth the experience. We ordered 2 bowls and the 3 taco plate. First the bowls, were not exactly full. My son's, that didn't have a shell, didn't have much in it at all. Just some lettuce, meat and pico. One would think it would have filled at least half the bowl but it really filled just the bottom. Maybe a quarter of the bowl. ( I wish I had taken a picture but he was starved and the little bit got him started). My taco shell with some mixings really left me saying... I wish I hadn't spent my money here. Really no flavor, no ping. I don't know about the taco plate but my husband didn't say much about it. They gave us chips with each entre which was nice. We ordered on line and it told us to stop by in 10 minutes. Once we got there, we waited 20 minutes for the order. Bottom line is that it's not worth stopping for dinner. This is the second time we've recently complained and although we've been experiencing a little better service a little more often, this latest service is so poor, we won't be returning to Taco Cabana until we see a flashing sign that assures better service with new management, or the place is bulldozed down and replaced with a better restaurant.
