Found this lowkey dank joint that is hidden in El Monte-- I enjoyed the items we ordered, that is, the wet burrito and fish tacos. I love how they don't skimped on the sauce, and take the time to make the meal look presentable. I know my partner enjoyed the seafood tacos because he returned the following week for their shrimp tacos. Thank you for accommodating us. We will be back!
Ambiance: 4/5 This place is a little hole in the wall. A hidden gem in El Monte that is pretty ghetto from outside. The inside is hot as heck because their AC isn't working, but they have a nice outdoor seating area. Food: 5/5 On Tuesdays and Thursdays they have a fish taco deal. They use to be two fish tacos for $1.50 but now it's $2.50 (don't let the sign outside mislead you, it is outdated). The fish tacos were light and a bed of cabbage and some cream sauce on two flour tortillas. It's a great deal for $1.25 a taco. Service: 5/5 I believe this place is family owned. The family working the counter is super sweet. The fish were battered and fried to order. It all came out fairly quickly. Note: They do accept credit card but it's a 4% charge. I suggest bringing cash.
Ordered the carnitas green wet burrito, very delicious with a nice kick to it, would def order again.
I was at work the other day, hadn't packed a lunch and was tired of the usual stuff I get in the area. I text my wife asking what for a recommendation and she told me about Taco Burger Place. She said it's local, has good reviews, and something different than what I would normally get at lunch. I decided to give it a shot. It's very hole-in-the-wall, so I know it would be great. I ordered five tacos (two fish, two al pastor and a carne asada). It was about 20 minutes before they were ready but I didn't mind because they were being made fresh. Got back to work and devoured them. In order, my preference was the fish tacos, then the al pastor and then the asada - all really good, though. I will be back at some point and try some of the other items on their menu (especially looking forward to the breakfast burrito). Come check them out - the lady behind the counter was also super kind.
(FOOD) TWO fish tacos for 1.50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays?!!??? They come out piping hot and suuuuper crispy. BEST fish tacos hands down for the price. It's packed FAT with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. (SERVICE) The lady smiled and is hella nice. (: (VENUE) It's one of those hole in the walls next to a laundromat. I wish they were busier because they deserve it.
We live out of town and make time to come here every time we come to Cali. The fish tacos are the BEST! Anything you get from the menu here is good though ! I recommend this spot , yummiest little spot !! The service is also great, they're very kind !
If you're looking for yummy authentic Mexican food this is the spot! Definitely treasured by the locals, our favorites are the fish tacos and chilaquiles Today my daughter got taquitos (rolled up with shredded beef) and they were delicious! The meat was soft almost like birria I ordered green chilaquiles which were spicy and didn't disappoint. Hubby got the green wet burrito and also super fire! Some fatty pieces of meat in the burrito but still yummy.
Used to come here maybe 10 years ago and came like everyone before, 2x1.00 fish tacos. Remember it as a delicious taco that was extremely reasonable. Went to try recently after ten years and they changed their name but it's still the same cook and people. Theu did clean up the inside and made it a little brighter, a little cleaner but same size. Had a shrimp, fish, cabeza and al pastor taco along with a burger and fries. Had the tacos with handmade tortillas but those come at an extra charge per taco. Shrimp and fish were just like back then, pretty good and a solid meal. The sauce is a little mayo-y but you can actually see the fish inside is fresh and not a old frozen patty. The cabeza was decent but the pastor was a definite miss. No pastor flavor at all. Would def come and get the fish and shrimp tacos again. 3.8/5. The burger and fries were a little salty and patty is a small frozen patty but it isn't bad. 3.5/5.
This place is great for a quick taco pick up. Forget the glitz and glamour of nicer looking spots, this is a real family operation. The taste of the tacos are a solid seven. And for the price you cannot beat it. There are a few things displays could do better like the seasoning, but it's charm is on being a "whole-in-the-wall". I suggest to come in on a taco Tuesday and get something to hold you over for dinner. You won't be able to beat this deal.
Drove past this place all the time and was finally lured in by the 2 for 1 fish taco banner. Parking is a shared lot in the back. It's not that big, but it didn't seem crowded. Service is good. Basic Spanish skills is helpful, but they're good with English. It's not a big deal in person, but they prefer phone orders and it's just a tiny bit more complicated. The ladies there were very nice though. Gave me excessive extras when I asked (salsas and plates). Originally, I stopped by for my own lunch. I got home and ended up sharing them. Next thing I know, the family decided they wanted them for dinner as well. I ended up putting in a phone order for about 30 tacos later that day. I was quoted 30 min, but it was probably closer to 40. For the sale price, I really can't find anything to complain about. At $.75 a taco, the small piece of fish is understandable. I like how crunchy the fish is, even if a lot of it is from the batter. I think my 30 taco order overwhelmed them because they started getting skimpy on the sauce and cabbage for some tacos. Overall, the food was still good. I wouldn't pay full price for the fish tacos though, so catch me here only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We were able to place our order in person then eat outside where they have about 3 tables. It's a great spot to stop during a San Gabriel River bike ride from Encanto Park! We got 3 Carne asada tacos and 3 chicken tacos. All of them were on point and perfectly seasoned, with lime wedges, green salsa, and red salsa. Both salsas were delicious as well. The tortillas were super tasty and fresh too!

We saw a lot of reviews praising their fish tacos, so we decided to come on Taco Tuesday after seeing a sign advertising 2-for-1 fish tacos, though we ended up paying full price, so I'm honestly not sure how the promotion works based on the sign out front. Their English is fairly limited, so be prepared for a bit of a language barrier. After ordering, we ended up getting 4 fish tacos and a wet asada burrito with green sauce. Here are my thoughts: Fish Taco - Delicious. The fish is fried and comes fully dressed with sauce. We opted for the handmade tortillas, which were fresh and absolutely bomb. The handmade tortillas were an extra $4 each, which I didn't fully realize at the time since the menu was in Spanish, oops. Still very good. (4.5/5) Wet Asada Burrito - Tasty and solid. The burrito itself was good, and I especially enjoyed the rice. Everything tasted great with the salsa smothered on top. Definitely a satisfying dish. (4/5) I'd definitely come back now that I have a better understanding of their menu (I was pretty lost not speaking Spanish). We did have to pay cash since they said their card machine was down. Overall, a pretty good experience. Parking: They have a parking lot in the back. read more

There's no place you'd rather be on a "Taco Tuesday" or "Taco Thursday" than Taco N Tento. The specials they run on those days are 2 fish tacos for $1.50. The best part? The tacos are actually really, REALLY good. They are in the true style of Baja California, Ensenada - Mexico as you can get this side of the border. No joke. The tacos are a little pricer on "no meat Fridays" (all you Catholics out there know what I'm talking about), but they are still good, and a decent value at that. My niece loves the shrimp cocktail here and can put away the whole thing by herself. They serve fries here, made to order, for those picky little children who won't eat seafood yet (ahem, my five year old). Full disclosure: I've been coming here since I was about five years old, and this place brings back fond memories of childhood, grubbing with the family. What I'm saying is, I'm super partial to this place, as THE place to come to get your fish taco eating done. read more
Pros: This place is great. They have nice people working there, food that taste great and will fill you up, and very affordable for anyone. I will go here again. The place is small so it isn't good for big groups. What also stands out about this place is their chairs are neon bright..nothing crazy just out of the ordinary. read more

Yelp challenge 17/100 Made to order when I came here on a Saturday afternoon, the pescado (fish) tacos were some of the best I've had in the san gabriel valley and also extremely affordable! We were the only customers here and 6 freshly fried/grilled piping hot tacos were served within 5 minutes of ordering. Only 1.50$ per fish taco but on Tuesdays and Thursday they give you 2 Fish Tacos for 1$ what a steal! Camaron (shrimp) and asada (beef) tacos were also ordered and I couldn't tell a big difference between the shrimp and the fish since they were both deep fried... XD Asada tacos weren't exciting. This is a pretty tiny "hole in the wall" type joint on the corner of Ramona blvd and Durfee ave in the city of El Monte located near the 605 freeway. Will be back to try out the burritos! read more

(^。^) Fish taco that make your belly and wallet happy (^。^) I think I find the cheapest Fish Taco in L.A. 2 Fish Tacos for only 99 cents in Tuesday and Thursday, you heard that right. 2 Delicious Fish taco for a buck, most other place will only do one for a dollar but not for both. You can order multiple fish tacos for the same promotion price too. It located between Ramona and Durfee Ave in El Monte, near the 605 freeway. The restaurant is like your usual Mexican Mom and Pop. There is few tablet inside, you paid the food at front. Fish tacos were my favorite since this is type of taco is hard to make at food. The fish tacos were good, not the best I had. However, for that price is a total steal. I am surprise that this place isn't crowded during lunch time in weekday. This place definite deserves more customer, amazing price and good fish tacos! read more
Years ago, I had a friend who taught at a nearby high school. She told me this was the best fish taco in L.A. I scoffed and didn't believe her. Well, they certainly have amazing handmade tortillas. They are huge! Which means a huge taco. The fish was very mild, bordering on "bland" for some people. That's what salsa is for! Ah, the salsa could have used more kick. I generally like salsa verde over salsa roja for tacos but opted to use the roja when the verde did not do the job. Fish taco $1.50 Shrimp taco a whopping $3 It was $4.90 after tax and I didn't even get a drink. Hm. But they did give us free chips and salsa. On Thursdays, they do two fish tacos for $1. I think that's a stellar deal considering the size of these things. Of course, by the time you get to the second one, the juices, crema and salsa might have soaked into the tortilla making it a bit messy to eat. I enjoyed the fish more than the shrimp taco more. I don't know if it's because the fish wasn't $3! Still, I loved the kitschy atmosphere from the giant marlin on the wall to the neon colored chairs. They also have outdoor seating. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Someone came by several times to check on us. Taco N Tento is on the corner of Ramona and Durfee. There's plenty of street parking and they share a lot with a small grocery and laundrymat. They are very close to the 605 freeway, right off Ramona. I'm definitely going back to try more things on the menu. And they had a huge amount of soups. I counted at least 7 or 8 different types. Mmm, seafood soup! read more

Thumbs up. Must try their taco Tuesdays. 2 fish tacos for $1.50. I'm not a taco person . But this place is yummy. Been coming here every week since April. The young lady at the register is super sweet. read more
Crawl Stop #1 http://www.yelp.com/events/el-monte-please-sir-wont-you-feed-me-fish-tacos As this is a fish taco crawl the review is for the fish tacos only. This place had the best tacos of the entire crawl for many reasons. The tortillas were hand made and perfect texture. Although the hand made tortilla tacos were not part of the 2 for a dollar fish taco deal they were still just $1.50 each and they were at least twice the size of any of the other tacos on the crawl. Fish was perfectly cooked to a crisp and the sauce had just the right amount of tartness with a reasonable amount of cabbage to balance. Although it was said that the fish was a little bland I expect this type of fish to have a mild flavor and it didn't bother me with combo of other flavors and textures. I would go here again. 4 stars read more
My fiance was recommended to Taco N Tento by his friend. We decided to pretty much order a variety of foods on the menu. The fish tacos are amazing. The tacos are huge, fish is fried. It comes with a lot of sauce so I would recommend telling them to put it on the side. Fish taco specials on Tues and Thurs! I loved the shrimp ceviche. They give you so much shrimp and the sliced avocados on top were mmm mmm good. Price breakdown: Fish tacos - 2.50?? (i'm not exactly sure) Shrimp ceviche - 4.50 Carne asada tacos - 1.50 Lengua tacos - 1.50 Nom nom nom. Will definitely be back. read more

Tuesday's and Thursday's are 2 for $1 fish tacos! They come out hot, fresh, and delicious! The actual place is a bit small with only 5-6 tables and the food doesn't come out too fast BUT it's made when you order and not sitting under a heat lamp. Their other items look really good and I'm excited to come back to try their menudo and burritos. read more
During my recent trip to LA, I wanted to try some authentic Mexican Tacos, and boy did this Taco N Tento deliver. The fish tacos here were awesome! The fish is fried and the tacos come with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, limes and sauce. What's so amazing is the size of the tortilla, price, and quality of the fish tacos. They were $1.50 each! As a group of 5, we ordered 20 of them and I was pretty full after 3 tacos. This speaks to how enormous they were. We also ordered the nachos where were $5. Chips and Salsa also came with our meal. Being from DC, I'm sure it's not hard to find $1.50 tacos in LA, but I would probably pay double for these in DC. They were just that good. Overall, if you're looking for delicious fish tacos in El Monte (LA area), look no further than Taco N Tento! -- Check out my other reviews at http://nextstopdc.blogspot.com/ read more

fish tacos - burnt, nasty, and small. they looked good. nothing like the picture posted in the profile. the white sauce tasted like mayonnaise. there was tons of it on my taco. maybe that was the reason why i vomited... maybe not. never. ever. again. read more
taco n tento serves up a nice offering of delicious mexican food. im sure everything on the menu tastes good, but i was only able to try the fish and carne asada tacos. the place is small and very intimate. kinda hard to find if youre heading east on ramona. i passed it and knew i went too far cause i was by the 605. busted a uwee and bam, found it on the corner of durfee and ramona. i got there right before the lunch rush hour (if one exist) and was lucky to eat my food there. the tacos were superb. the fish was crispy and the toppings were added to perfection. the carne asada taco was just as good. definitely heading back when i feel like some good eats. read more
