The food is good, the service not so much. There's this lady in the front that always has a mad look on her face and is always really rude when you approach her. Have you ever had difficulty wanting to keep a hidden gem, hidden, but also wanted it to flourish? That's how I feel about Taco Boy. Family owned, and recipes long standing, this restaurant has been my dad and my "secret" breakfast spot for years. I can honestly say (for he and I) there has not been one thing on their menu that has disappointed me. The food is authentic and fresh, and also VERY affordable. So check this... The wifey and I came about 2 months ago. The line was long, so I guessed the food must be good. Then we saw the sign " cash only" really ? Businesses Please we are so out of the caveman days get a card machine. So we left... Glad we did (why?) that part of the story coming. But today we stopped by (brought cash) Well when we ordered , it was just like a lot of what people here were saying. The cashier lady was a rude piece of work, no smiles, and not a bit of service minded personality was displayed here. She must be family to the owner or if they were smart, she would be gone. The food was just ok, not fantastic or great but filling and plentiful. We had a bowl of Menudo and chilliqueles, and topped it of with potato tacos . The menudo was kinda tasteless and watery. The rest was kinda OK. Not sure about a lot of others, but if service sucks... Then usually the whole experience does to. I was done with it after a while. Not sure if I'll return. Now the reason why I was glad to leave last time. We drove north on Rosemead and with yelp's help we found Baja Taco Mar. Wow awesome fish tacos, and pretty good shrimp and really nice potato tacos. Great "hole in the wall" with some authentic mexican food. I had three taco platter, sampling the carne asada, carnitas, and lengua. Was a little disappointed with the pork because it was dry. The steak was delicious and so was the lengua. side of beans and rice was tasty too. drinks offered are mexican coke and Jarritos sodas as well as aqua fresca. Good food great prices. Pretty good food, but be prepared to wait for it...even when you call it in a head of time. The layout of the restaurant is kinda poor being that you always have people just standing around waiting for their to-go orders right by where the cashier is. Makes for a crowded mess. Again Yelp! is missing the half stars for this review. Had there been, this review would be 3.5 stars. The food is not bad and actually pretty good, but the problem is with the service and the layout at this place. Just as previous reviews have stated this place takes long to get you your food, and sometimes just as long to actually order! That's a bad thing because as i said the food is actually pretty good. I think there set-up does them a dis-service. They have a large enough dining room to actually have waiter service, but instead they make you order at the counter and also make you come get your own food from the same counter, this causes the problems. Maybe not for the person behind the counter because all she/he has to do is input the order and call out your order as food is ready. Kinda unprofessional and if they want to take it to the next level, i think waiter service will help this place out ALOT! (just my 2 cents) The counter person never smiled, wasn't friendly at all (at least fake it), and moved like a turtle...she acted as if she was being forced to work there. I love to support small businesses like this and will definitely be back as this place is close to home, but i only speak the truth. I doubt my review will hurt this place as it was and always is packed, only wish they were a tad bit more organized and they would make lots more money for sure. This hidden gem is worth the search. The ingredients are fresh. The tacos are street style and have just the right kick. The Al Pastor was great flavored and the portion filled the two corn layer corn tacos. The taco plate had three tacos with rice and beans. The overall service was very pleasant just a little slow. Before I start my review I want to let erbody reading this that it's a CASH ONLY type of place. I come here every now and then..the only thing that holds me back is that they take a while to get your food out to you. I mean i get it, it's freshly made and all but when I'm hungry I don't want to wait 15+ minutes after I have ordered to get my food. Reason for the 5 stars even after the long wait for my food is because once you get what you have ordered it's always great! Their food is yummy and flavorful. I've never ordered something off the menu and not have it meet my taste buds expectations. I always get someone new to come with me and experience this place and they always leave satisfied!
