Amazing people. Food is good as always. But staff is key when it comes to a chain. They are happy to be there.

No luxurious building with expensive decorations and furniture. Just a clean, cozy, and comfortable little building with a few tables and chairs, a counter where orders are taken and paid for, and a small kitchen behind where orders are prepared and taken out to your table by one of the servers. When I arrived to the restaurant that is well known in the area for the $1 tacos on Tuesdays, I was impressed by how small it was. The main room where orders are taken and paid for and with a few tables and chairs for customers to seat down and eat, is souranded by large windows where light can come in as well as people can look in from the street and see a very clean restaurant full of people eating and others ordering items to go. There is a second smaller seating area, this one with walls and smaller windows. As I entered the door, there were several signs both on the wall and standing on the floor. There was an enlarged colorful menu on the wall, and a floor sign with the days of operation and special daily menus. Behind the counter a friendly employee greeted me and took my order. To drink I ordered a Mango juice, as an appetizer I ordered 2 Longaniza tacos, as the main course I ordered a steak Milanesa (breaded steak), and for dessert a Pastel de Tres Leches. I paid with a credit card and then went and sat at a table next to a wall with an outlet where I could charge my cellphone that was running low in power. While I was there several people came to pick up orders to go; a couple of groups of workers, and some families as well. After all it was a Friday evening. When my food was ready one of the servers brought it to me. All the items looked and tasted delicious. The Steak Milanesa was a bit thin but tasted good. There was a small table up front with all kinds of sauces to put on your food. This is a comfortable little place where you can enjoy genuine Mexican food, alone or with family and friends. Nothing gourmet, just good home cooking.

To drink I ordered the Housemade Lemonade. As I waited and examined the menu, I observed the beautiful open space renovation with nice and comfortable furniture and outstanding works of art decorating the restaurant. The server arrived with my drink and a welcoming smile and took my order. For apappetizer I ordered the Chips and Choriqueso. And for my main entry I ordered two Flank Steak and one Pork Carnitas tacos. Two of them Traditional style and one Gringo style. And for dessert the Churrosticks. The iced lemonade was one of the best lemonades I've ever had. Very lemony and the right sweetness. The quality of the Chips and Choriqueso was superb and the tacos were simply delicious. The service was superb. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and provide refills for my lemonade. I can't imagine how good the Margaritas must be at this restaurant / bar. I highly recommend this contemporary restaurant / bar for a place to go alone, to relax, or with family and friends to enjoy some quality time together in a clean and tastefully decorated Mexican restaurant located in a chick location.

For my main course, I ordered the street tacos. One carne asada, pollo, barbacoa, tripa frito. All delicious and flavorful! The salsas also hit the spot. The reason for 3 stars instead of 5, is the fact that service was mediocre. After my food was dropped off, my waitress Joselyn did not check in once. When she dropped off the check, she never picked it up. I had to walk to the front to pay for my meal. Great place, but customer service can be improved. I did share my concerns with management. This small and unassuming Mexican restaurant, Diablos Tacos & Tamales, is located on East 4th Street, Salem, in a small strip mall next to a laundromat. At first it was hard find. I actually passed by it and had to turn around, but when I did, its restaurant front beckoned me with its charming facade. I parked my Lexus in a parking space in front of the restaurant, who's parking lot accommodated a fairly decent amount of cars. The restaurant's front comprised of a bay window and a glass door, with a pine swag along the top of the bay window and a red bow underneath of their simple, yet effective, name with logo sign above the bay window. Humble decorations for the Holiday Season, nevertheless, clearly cheering things up. As I entered the restaurant, I immediately found it quaint, with only five tables. It was very clean and had a warm, friendly environment. Its colorful furniture seemed to give it character and transport you to another place in time. A friendly young lady greeted and welcomed me and had me seat at the table of my choice. I sat at the table next to the bay window, which provided exceptional lighting for my cellphone camera to capture the food served here. I already had a feeling that it would be a genuine Mexican Cuisine, one that tasted as home-cooking as possible. My server handed me a copy of the menu and took my drink order. I ordered an Horchata drink. She then brought me a basket with freshly made tortilla chips and a little bowl of salsa. The chips were thin, crispy, and so tasty that they easily melted in your mouth giving you a joyous sensation. One of the best, if not the best tortilla chips that I have ever had. The salsa was also very unique. It was not thick but rather very liquidy, yet tasty. When my server brought me my drink, I complimented her on the chips and she confirmed that they were made in-house daily. Chatting with my server, I found out that the owners and cooks of this family restaurant were from Mexico City, and that they had opened this restaurant around two years ago. The word "Diablos," in the restaurant's name comes from the owners love of one of their soccer team: "Deportivo Toluca Futbol Club," one of the most iconic and winning teams of Mexican futbol. Also known as "Los Diablos Rojos." The team was founded in 1917 and received this name by the inspiration of one of its best players nicknamed "El Diablo." To dine, I started with 3 Street Tacos Al Pastor (made with marinated pork, chorizo, and pineapple). They were absolutely mouthwatering, starting from their in-house made tortilla, to their filling, and cilantro, onion, and salsa. Then I was going to have a Pork Tamale, but since it was Monday, and they are closed Sundays, at 2 o'clock they were still making the tamales, in order to have them fresh for dinner. So, instead I had a Burrito Al Pastor. You have to see it to believe it. I invite you to view my photographs and video clips to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. For dessert, they were out of Flan, so I ordered their other alternative dessert, Tres Leches, also made in-house. It was the most delicious Tres Leches that I have ever had. By its texture and flavor, one could tell it was home made. For in this restaurant one felt like being at home. I highly recommend it for its quality and genuine Mexican Cuisine, it relaxing ambiance, and its amazing service. All contributing to an extraordinary dining experience.

I dined here with a friend a year ago and we both loved their Choriqueso appetizer (a thick sauce made up of chorizo and melted cheese) to be enjoyed with tortilla chips. I enjoyed it so much that I checked-in and posted a close-up photograph of a chip being dipped in the melted cheese with chorizo sauce. However, my visit was soured when the owner mixed up my beef chimichanga order for chicken and refused to fix it, which stopped me from posting my planned positive review back then. Hoping they've improved service, because that appetizer was delicious. Today, I decided to return and give it a second chance. I arrived around lunch time and the place was deserted. Only one car parked in the parking lot, which I assumed was the owner's and the only sign of life was a red OPEN sign posted on the front of the restaurant. I parked my Lexus in their parking lot, walked to the entrance, and slowly pulled on the door to see if it opened, and it did. I found the dining room empty and no one around. Then after a while, a very friendly and respectful lady came out of nowhere with a warm, welcoming greetings. She tried to talk to me to see what I wanted to drink, and when I noticed she was having problems with her English, I immediately switched to Spanish, and asked her for an Horchata. Then I proceeded to order the Choriqueso appetizer, and asked her if the chips were included because I noticed on the menu that chips and salsa were listed as an appetizer with a charge. Luckily they were. After she came back with my drink, I asked her for the name of an item I saw its picture on the menu. It was called Molcajete and I ordered it as my main entrée. It was listed as having chicken breast, steak, shrimp, chorizo, cactus, and onions, and was served with rice, refried beans, and corn tortillas. It seems this dish got its name from the bowl where it was served. A molcajete is a traditional mortal and pestle made from volcanic rock that's heated to serve dishes like grilled meats, keeping them bubbling and steamy at the table. In all this time I was the only customer at the table, and only a party of two visited the restaurant while I was there. I believe that it might be the view of an empty parking lot that steers people away. Plus, the fact that Towers Shopping Center has Pancho Mexican Restaurant, one of my favorites, for its decor, ambiance, quality and variety of food, and its amazing customer service. Finally, my server's husband and owner of the restaurant showed up to serve my main entrée since the molcajete was heavy. He was cold and didn't even say hello, just put the entrée on the table and left. The husband and wife had completely opposite personalities. My server came to check on me several times during my meal, which by the way was very delicious with the exception of the steak that was thin and tough. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. For dessert I had a Flan. It was well made and delicious. At the end I ask my server for the bill and while I waited went to the restroom to wash my hands. When I come back the bill is on my table, but my server is no where to be seen, only the owner was out. So I paid him with a credit card at the cashier's counter. He goes to the back and comes back with my slips to sign. I find strange that he didn't allow my server, his wife, to come out to thank me for coming and say goodbye, because with her personality and good manners I know she would have. When I got home I checked the receipt and to make sure I had my credit card and found that it was missing. Immediately I called the restaurant and he answered the phone. He checked around and told me it was not there that I must have it, again with this defiant attitude, and way of saying things. I told him I had checked and it was not here, and asked him to please check again carefully. He finally comes out and tells me he found it inside the credit card machine. I drove all the way back to pick it up. He gave it back to me when I got there, with not even an apology. I hope you understand why I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to dine there again, but to enjoy the positive I would have to tolerate the negative.
