Hillbilly Taco - Raw Chicken

Ordered a hillbilly taco and was given raw chicken at 8 months pregnant. I used to love this place but the service has also gone down tremendously.

After completing the IronMan race we decided to stop by this restaurant and get some tacos . Who doesn't love tacos ? (Tacos are not just for Tuesday) I had the rib-eye cube tacos but in all honesty, the meet looked more ground than cubed. I was really not impressed. I had the tacos the gringo style which includes lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. The meat was just spicy with little flavor. I honestly think that I can make better tacos but after racing, the last thing that you want to do, would be to cook. I also ordered the Three Amigos (Queso, Salsa, Guacamole) and they were good. The chips are good too. The service was good but I had to ask/remind Jacob that I needed water. Jacob was good but he seemed overwhelmed or maybe he was having a bad day. The decor is nice, a very cozy restaurant for sure. Keep in mind that margarita pitches are only served during happy hour and all day Tuesday. If you go outside those hours, you can forget it. I asked the bar manager if they could serve pitcher to a group of athletes that just finished getting beat up and he said "No!" I actually I did mot even finished my statement and I was shot down. So if you are in town and looking for good tacos and a pitcher or margaritas for the crew? Look to another restaurant unless you meet their timeframe. I think the restaurant is good and I would go back of all other restaurants are closed.

This place was awesome! Now I see why it's packed. Happy hour margarita pitcher prices.... So cheap. I tried the spicy jalapeno. Not too spicy. Nice kick and SMOOOOOOTH. Highly recommend. Happy hour has free chips and salsa. Amazing fresh chips and salsa. Good texture and flavor for both. I tried 2 tacos. The pastor wasn't as crunchy as I would like. A lot of juice. That shrimp taco.... ORDER IT. Looked good for your vegetarian friends. Dogs outside. Good for kids as well.

The place itself looks nice and they have a great outdoor seating area.. We didn't enjoy the tacos unfortunately. My husband did enjoy their drink options and beer options but we have had delicious tacos in roanoke for half the price.

Delicious cucumber jalapeño margarita!

Best margaritas! They have my favorite: cucumber jalapeño. Just right right amount of spice and a hint of cucumber. Bravo!

For my main course, I ordered the street tacos. One carne asada, pollo, barbacoa, tripa frito. All delicious and flavorful! The salsas also hit the spot. The reason for 3 stars instead of 5, is the fact that service was mediocre. After my food was dropped off, my waitress Joselyn did not check in once. When she dropped off the check, she never picked it up. I had to walk to the front to pay for my meal. Great place, but customer service can be improved. I did share my concerns with management. Ambiance is nice and upbeat!

As I waited in front of the Host's station to be seated, a friendly lady came out from the kitchen, greeted me with a warm welcome, took me to one of the few empty tables and handed me the menu. It was four pages, but designed very colorful and creative with lots of tiny photos of some of the food items. To drink I ordered an Iced Horchata (Sweeten Rice Water). This cold non-alcoholic drink tasted sweet, creamy, and refreshing, with a prominent cinnamon flavor. First time I had it but I immediately fell in love with this very unique and comforting taste. As an appetizer I ordered a dish with shrimps, which I had seen being served to another table. As the main dish I ordered a Chori-Pollo, which was basically a grilled chicken breast filet topped with Mexican sausage and cheese dip. And a side steak taco. And for dessert I had the Churros. Everything tasted delicious with an authentic Mexican cuisine. Even the loud background music gave the place an authentic Mexican flavor and atmosphere. In conclusion, this is a local Mexican family restaurant where you feel at home in a relaxed environment, enjoying genuine Mexican food prepared by natives of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

In a little house on a short street in Salem, Virginia, one that if it were not painted a bright…read moreorange color, would simply go unnoticed, is housed one of the smallest restaurants that I have ever seen. Yet we must not let its size deceive us, just as we should not judge a gift by its size nor a book by its cover. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Tacos Coronados in Salem, Virginia, is the perfect example. After driving by this Mexican little restaurant the other day on my way to Gusto Pizza for dinner, I thought to myself, "It is in small hole in the wall places like this one that one finds amazing food. I definitely need to return soon to try it out." And today is that day. I set my Lexus GPS to their address and started driving their way, encountering a torrential rain along the way, only being able to see a bright orange spot when I arrived. I decided to wait in my car for a while listening to music. As the rain resided and I was able too see the Mexican restaurant, the first thing I did was take a photograph of it from inside my car, since small drops of rain were still falling from the sky. Once inside, I noticed the place was also painted the same bright orange color, had a counter were To Go orders were taken and picked up, and a modern computer cashier where orders were paid. But what impressed me the most was the cleanliness of the place, and how very organized it was, with well use of space for five booths that each could seat four persons comfortably. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its food. A friendly gentleman came out from the back to greet me and gave me a warm welcome. He appreciated very much that I spoke Spanish and talked to me about the restaurant and its menu. Most of their business is for Take Out orders, but on some days and times it can get full with dine-in customers. One thing that caught my attention was that Chips and Salsa were listed in the menu under Appetizers for $4.50. Afterwards I did my research and found out that Chips and Salsa is not a traditional complimentary offering in Mexico. It is considered an American Tradition. And that some restaurants make it a point to serve high-quality chips and salsa, justifying a charge for them. I ordered a bottle of Orange Fanta to drink and a Gorditas al Pastor (with Pork) Special to eat. Their appetizers in the menu were limited to Chips and Salsa, and Chips and Guacamole. And they had no dessert items. However, they did have Taco Tuesdays, when Pork or Chicken Tacos are $2 each. This was the first time ever that I have had gorditas but my server explained that they were a traditional Mexican street food consisting of a thick masa (corn dough) cake that is fried, then slit open to create a pocket and stuffed with various fillings like cheese, shredded meats like carnitas (pork), beans, and vegetables. Their picture sure looked good on the menu. The name "gordita" means "little fat one" in Spanish, referring to its plump, thick shape. They were crunchy and tasty, full of flavor. I definitely enjoyed my meal of genuine Mexican street food, highly recommend the restaurant for a very unique dining experience with genuine Mexican cuisine and an extraordinary customer service.

This is a family-owned and family-run authentic Mexican restaurant located across the street from…read morethe Kroger gas station of the Towers Shopping Center, in Roanoke, Virginia. I dined here with a friend a year ago and we both loved their Choriqueso appetizer (a thick sauce made up of chorizo and melted cheese) to be enjoyed with tortilla chips. I enjoyed it so much that I checked-in and posted a close-up photograph of a chip being dipped in the melted cheese with chorizo sauce. However, my visit was soured when the owner mixed up my beef chimichanga order for chicken and refused to fix it, which stopped me from posting my planned positive review back then. Hoping they've improved service, because that appetizer was delicious. Today, I decided to return and give it a second chance. I arrived around lunch time and the place was deserted. Only one car parked in the parking lot, which I assumed was the owner's and the only sign of life was a red OPEN sign posted on the front of the restaurant. I parked my Lexus in their parking lot, walked to the entrance, and slowly pulled on the door to see if it opened, and it did. I found the dining room empty and no one around. Then after a while, a very friendly and respectful lady came out of nowhere with a warm, welcoming greetings. She tried to talk to me to see what I wanted to drink, and when I noticed she was having problems with her English, I immediately switched to Spanish, and asked her for an Horchata. Then I proceeded to order the Choriqueso appetizer, and asked her if the chips were included because I noticed on the menu that chips and salsa were listed as an appetizer with a charge. Luckily they were. After she came back with my drink, I asked her for the name of an item I saw its picture on the menu. It was called Molcajete and I ordered it as my main entrée. It was listed as having chicken breast, steak, shrimp, chorizo, cactus, and onions, and was served with rice, refried beans, and corn tortillas. It seems this dish got its name from the bowl where it was served. A molcajete is a traditional mortal and pestle made from volcanic rock that's heated to serve dishes like grilled meats, keeping them bubbling and steamy at the table. In all this time I was the only customer at the table, and only a party of two visited the restaurant while I was there. I believe that it might be the view of an empty parking lot that steers people away. Plus, the fact that Towers Shopping Center has Pancho Mexican Restaurant, one of my favorites, for its decor, ambiance, quality and variety of food, and its amazing customer service. Finally, my server's husband and owner of the restaurant showed up to serve my main entrée since the molcajete was heavy. He was cold and didn't even say hello, just put the entrée on the table and left. The husband and wife had completely opposite personalities. My server came to check on me several times during my meal, which by the way was very delicious with the exception of the steak that was thin and tough. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. For dessert I had a Flan. It was well made and delicious. At the end I ask my server for the bill and while I waited went to the restroom to wash my hands. When I come back the bill is on my table, but my server is no where to be seen, only the owner was out. So I paid him with a credit card at the cashier's counter. He goes to the back and comes back with my slips to sign. I find strange that he didn't allow my server, his wife, to come out to thank me for coming and say goodbye, because with her personality and good manners I know she would have. When I got home I checked the receipt and to make sure I had my credit card and found that it was missing. Immediately I called the restaurant and he answered the phone. He checked around and told me it was not there that I must have it, again with this defiant attitude, and way of saying things. I told him I had checked and it was not here, and asked him to please check again carefully. He finally comes out and tells me he found it inside the credit card machine. I drove all the way back to pick it up. He gave it back to me when I got there, with not even an apology. I hope you understand why I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to dine there again, but to enjoy the positive I would have to tolerate the negative.
