On a rainy Sunday evening at around 6:45pm I arrived at this small Mexican restaurant and the first lesson I learned was to "Never judge a book by its cover," for when I entered I found an almost full restaurant with just a couple of empty tables. As I waited in front of the Host's station to be seated, a friendly lady came out from the kitchen, greeted me with a warm welcome, took me to one of the few empty tables and handed me the menu. It was four pages, but designed very colorful and creative with lots of tiny photos of some of the food items. To drink I ordered an Iced Horchata (Sweeten Rice Water). This cold non-alcoholic drink tasted sweet, creamy, and refreshing, with a prominent cinnamon flavor. First time I had it but I immediately fell in love with this very unique and comforting taste. As an appetizer I ordered a dish with shrimps, which I had seen being served to another table. As the main dish I ordered a Chori-Pollo, which was basically a grilled chicken breast filet topped with Mexican sausage and cheese dip. And a side steak taco. And for dessert I had the Churros. Everything tasted delicious with an authentic Mexican cuisine. Even the loud background music gave the place an authentic Mexican flavor and atmosphere. In conclusion, this is a local Mexican family restaurant where you feel at home in a relaxed environment, enjoying genuine Mexican food prepared by natives of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. read more

We went in on a Tuesday when the restaurant was mostly empty. They had $2 Birria taco specials which you can't beat. They were pretty big and delicious! The apps were just ok- queso seemed watery , salsa very mild. The corn bowl was good but not out of this world. Service was very friendly , waiter checked in on us multiple times. Very good authentic Mexican. Very casual. Reasonably priced. Large portions. I had the Carnitas platter and my 93 yo mom had the fish tacos. Both were really good, and did not overwhelm my mother's more sensitive pallette. The restaurant sits right off the highway and if you're not familiar with the area, it's best to use GPS. The decor is what I what I lovingly call, Late Apocalypse, where no two pieces of furniture match, but it was clean and the staff was efficient and friendly. The whole experience would have been better had I spoke Spanish, but that's on me. We went on a Thursday at 6:00 pm and there was no wait. I'd go here again and try the Molé and the Birria tacos. read more

Honestly this is one of the worse restaurants Ive EVER been to... let me share my experience with y'all. Semi discriminatory vibes. 1st of all when we came in there was no one to greet us we had to ring a bell for someone to came out -- which took about 2 minutes of standing there waiting while the WHOLE restaurant was empty. 2nd of all the waitress didn't even give us regular plates, to eat on and gave us paper plates. The table next over that came in after us all had regular plates.. not paper ones. -- I go to a restaurant for the experience & vibe. We weren't even offered the free chips they have, but the tables next to us received them immediately as they sat down. -- If the restaurant was busy I would understand. There was 2 people working and literally no one else dining these besides us and another table that came in after. When I went to the bathroom it was DISGUSTING!!!!! The paper towels were on top of the toilet upper lid. Like eww.. Im not going to touch that after I just washed my hands. 3rd of all the waitress never check on us, but did with the other table. She only came out when we were waiting for over 20 mins. -- I ever got up and went looking for her in the lobby. Nowhere to be found. 4th of all the torta sandwich was TRASH!!!! My company ordered the queso birria tacos and those were decent. 5th of all this place gives off dirty janky vibes -- No napkins at the table, condiment lids missing (TOTALLY UNSANITARY & GROSS!) the seating layout also looked very run down and old. I got ignored by the waitresses 2 times while asking for the check. TURNS OUT YOU PAY AT THE FRONT! I wouldn't have a problem if the food wasn't up to par because some places is a hit & a miss. At first glance, the furniture is mismatched and a little run down, but the food is truly authentic and some of the best Mexican I've ever had. They do not serve chips and salsa, which we all admittedly enjoy, like all of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but they do not need to. Believe me, if you have to wait, it is well worth it. It is evident everything is fresh and made in house. If you order a dish that comes with their special side sauces, you do not always get the same thing. You might get any various combo, which is always exciting and delicious to experience. And, one of their sauces is a spicy one that really packs a punch. An absolute must to order is the Tacos de barbacoa Guadalajara style. You can get all of the classic meat selections for them along with specialties such as Lengua (Beef Tongue). I went here on a Saturday afternoon for some tacos. They are located on Williamson Road on the corner of Hershberger. Walking in, the music was very loud at the bar. We chose a table in the back where it was not so loud. The menu is quite large with a lot of authentic Mexican dishes. We ordered tacos, gorditas, and tamales. We were served nachos with beans and two hot sauces to start. The wait staff here seemed new and had to ask about some of our questions about the menu. We were served water, but needed more and had to walk to the bar for a refill. Our food took awhile to arrive, but it noted on the menu that food takes longer than most places as everything is made fresh. The tamales were good and reasonably priced. We had two orders of tacos, which had amazingly fresh tortilla. The taco fillings varied in quality, and we were served one with tripe, even though it was not what we ordered. The gorditas were served as an order of three (they would not sell a single to my seven year old nephew). The gordita was very fresh, like everything here, and steak inside was quite good but overfilled with beans. The restaurant itself is very basic. All food is served on paper plates, and only two paper napkins were placed on our four-top table. We had to steal napkins from tables around us. People funneled into the restaurant while we were there, and most were ordering drinks only. It seems like this is a popular drinking establishment, so beware that it might not be the best family atmosphere. read more

I'll start off with the good: the homemade flour tortillas are good and the waitresses are very friendly and nice. The bad: The carnitas were unflavorful and fatty. The fajitas were also unflavorful and ended up being hard to digest. The worst: We went to the bathroom and not only was it a path through a cluttered unclean "behind the scenes" tour of the restaurant, we found what appeared to be mouse poop in the sink of the bathroom. My husband and I ate dinner at Mi Tapatia for the first time this past Saturday 7/8/17. It was amazingly delicious! My husband had the shrimp diablo and I had the (giant!) shrimp quesadilla. Both dishes were wonderful. The ingredients were fresh and full of flavor. They make their own tortillas. We each had corn tortillas and WOW! That was the best corn tortilla I've ever had. The entire quesadilla was so very tasty. The salsas that came with my dish were way too spicy for me, haha, but my husband, the spice lover, enjoyed them. The green salsa was far more spicy than the red. Each of our dishes came with "salad" - fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado and also sides of rice and beans. Everything was exceptional. I had Jamaica to drink - a hibiscus infused drink - and it was very authentic and flavorful. It wasn't overly sugary like some of the other Jamaica I've had in the area. When we were getting ready to pay, my husband spotted a freezer case with La Princesa ice cream bars, which he loves, so that just ended the visit perfectly! Nothing fancy about the dining room, all the effort has been put into the menu, which is the way it should be. Oh wow!! We found this spot on Yelp and are so glad we did. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. They even make their own corn tortillas!! I had the sope with pastor and it was AMAZING!! My daughter had the quesadilla with carnitas on one of their homemade corn tortillas. It was so big my husband will have lunch tomorrow! Delicious too! Ok here is another great place for a good lunch and probably a good dinner, although I have not been here for that. My favorite thing to order here are the Gorditas. The first time I came here I ordered the Gorditas which come three to an order for only 7.95 and woah!! They were great and really full of all sorts of good stuff inside. I could barely eat all three. It was great tasting and really nice on the wallet. I saw that they also are making lovely mexican sweet bread for breakfast. The food is authentic and fresh. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. Much of it is homemade. Clearly a start-up business, run by cheerful and attentive women, and it's not fancy.
