It was my second time here. Friendly and quick seating. The menu is much smaller than I recall it being but we got the chimichangas. They are much smaller than they were but still good. The rice was a bit bland and the salsa tasted jarred. Overall it wasn't a bad visit, just not my first choice of mexican in this area. It's a lovely restaurant but the food didn't match the prices. I would come again. Would try something different next time. Plenty of parking and room to use a walker or wheelchair. From the outside this Mexican restaurant is located in one of the most largest and attractive architectural designed building of a restaurant that I have ever seen. With a beautiful outdoor front patio and a second floor balcony facing the patio, it sort of captures your attention everytime you drive by it and captivates you with a desire to want to go visit someday. For me that someday was today, the "Cinco de Mayo." Considered a day of celebration with good food, good drinks, and good music and dancing, especially here in America. I'm not sure if you knew but the "Cinco de Mayo" is a celebration of Mexico's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. It symbolizes Mexican patriotism and unity, and represents the ability to overcome great odds. When I arrived at the restaurant, located near the Valley View Mall in Roanoke, Virginia, at around 5:30 pm, their large parking lot was already filling up. Outside in the front patio, a DJ was playing Mexican music under a blue tarp, and customers were seated at very nice outdoor furniture round tables covered with red and blue table umbrellas, drinking and eating, and having a good time under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. I entered the restaurant through their majestic entrance to find an amazing open space interior design with high ceiling, many windows, and an elegant staircase leading to the second floor. The host greeted and welcomed me with a friendly smile and took me to a table in a wonderful location where I could observe the beauty of the entire restaurant. On my way there, we walked by the bar which was enclosed in a glass area with large windows looking to the front patio. Everything was designed to create a relaxed and festive environment in which to enjoy yourself by drinking and dining and having an amazing dining experience, alone, or with family and friends. Soon after having a seat at my table and looking over the menu which the host had given me, my server, a friendly young lady with a great personality came over to welcome me and take my order. I asked if they had any non-alcoholic drinks and she mentioned they had Virgin Daiquiris of several flavors. I ordered a Mango Daiquiri which came in a large glass, was thick like a smoothie, and a wonderful ripe mango taste. I love mangoes. They're my favorite fruit. So this drink tasted like heaven. To eat I ordered the Chorizo Dip, to enjoy with my complimentary Tortilla Chips with Salsa. And as my main course I ordered the Fajitas Texanas. Rather then describe them, I invite my readers to view my photographs and video-clips accompanying this review. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. All the food was amazingly delicious and the server came by several times to check on me, as well as the manager of the restaurant who was very kind and hospitable. For dessert I had the Fried Ice Cream and that's the only thing that wasn't good. The tortilla bowl in which it came in was stale, and the quality of the ice-cream was poor, not creamy as expected. It also was not wrapped and fried, but just a simple scoop of vanilla ice-cream covered with whipped cream. I should have had instead the Churro Cup but my server was not knowledgeable enough about this dessert to describe it to me correctly and in the menu it had no description. But I didn't allow this to spoil my dining experience. I wrote it here to not only make customers aware of this but also the manager so he can take action on this room for improvement positive feedback to make the dining experience just perfect. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant for its amazing atmosphere, genuine food, and wonderful customer service which all contributed to an extraordinary dining experience. read more

This is not the kind of place I expected to find near ROA ap. It's huge and lit up in a Vegas like way. I ventured in and the interior space was really cool. The bar is in its own glassed in room which had an awkward fish tank feeling, but oh well. There was a nice looking outdoor bar space too. The pineapple of chicken and veggies was delicious! This is a complicated review because so much could be great but it falls short. A+ great staff and terrific service A+ atmosphere probably in the summer when opened up with outside patio C atmosphere in bar when closed up on cold nights and winter. The drink machine are so loud its actually very annoying. If cold evening you best eat or drink in the main dining room. D food was rather bland. I had the fajitas grande with shrimp, chicken, and steak. Have to say shrimp cooked well. I didn't like the steak cut so small. and overall there was very little seasoning or flavor. Refried beans as well no flavor. Maybe they have better items - but between the bad bar atmosphere on cold night and bland food I couldn't give more than 3 star on this visit. I was very disappointed..no guacamole like it said and the chicken, instead of being shredded was huge chunks (2) and tasted (looked like as well) it had been pulled from boiling water & dropped in the scarce lettuce. For the price of this salad the true mexican taste should still be there. Your prices reflect the cost of rising product cost but you've skipped the spices that make it a good salad. Wow! Great food, quick and friendly service! Oliver was our Waiter and he was kind and respectful. They had Happy Hour (4-8 Mon-Thur) but my husband wanted to try an Upper Shelf margarita. I went here with three of my friends today, when we walked into the entrance of the building there was a very noticeable smell of sewage/ gas. The waiter was somewhat attentive, it was hard to understand him as he was muttering. After food was served one of the freinds started to complain of symptoms of an allergic reactions he has to peanuts. It was never stated in the menu or by the server there were nuts in the food. No one was really in the mood for Mexican food, but this was the closest place to our hotel and after a long day on the road, close sounded good. Happily, close turned out to be really good! The building is pretty. It looks like a prom photo backdrop inside-- which I know is kind of cheesey but it was nice. Great wait staff, unlimited chips & salsa. Our entrees were huge and tasty ( 2 of our party of 5 took leftovers home). The drinks were ok....a little on the weak side but not anything unusual for frozen mixed things. Overall, very nice. We tried out Rodeo Grande for the first time a few nights ago. It was nicely decorated inside and out. The vibe had a fancy feeling to it, yet the prices were very moderate. I usually stick to the typical Mexican restaurant fair, tacos, burritos, etc. This night however I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and try something different. When I first noticed the Hawaiian Fajitas, I was confused how they would serve fajitas in a pineapple. I then thought to myself "Self, let's do it, let's get freaking fajitas in a pineapple". I relented and gave into my internal monologue. I ordered the Hawaiian fajitas. As soon as they arrived, I was internally impressed. I didn't let this slip out to the others I was dining with as they were skeptical of my choice. I feared showing my approval to quickly. What if I didn't like them? What if my wife was right and they weren't good. I was shaking (mentally) as I took that first bite. With one taste all of my fears and anxiety were alleviated. The whole dish was delicious, every single bite. The mix of the savory and the tropical fruit meshed together like a symphony of flavor dancing on my taste buds. In all seriousness, try it. It's a great dish, and I highly recommend it. Overall, my whole family liked their choices. We will definitely return. read more

Basically it's a glass of triple sec and ice. I drank the Jumbo version but could not finish what tasted like a glass of syrup. For my main course I ordered the Steak a la tampiqueña and an a la carte cheese enchiladas. When the food was delivered all I received was the enchilada. This was burnt to a white plate. Burnt like a cracker. Could not cut it with a knife it was so tuff. Five minutes passed and my steak was delivered and guess what? Burnt! I mean black flesh crispy burnt. Excellent family run establishment. We went in with a large group-40 plus. We were seated upstairs and immediately the drink orders were taken and filled. Baskets of nachos placed everywhere and the food kept coming. I ordered a sampler platter with quesadillas, wings and other tasty tidbits. Excellent fast service. I also ordered chicken with poblano sauce . A little on the salty side but very tasty. My friends ordered a seafood dish which was presented in a hollowed and halved pineapple, also very good . Let's start with the positives: the building looks fantastic. I'm sure the outdoor areas are especially great in the summer time. That's literally it in terms of positives. The list of negatives is long: the food is quite simply not good. Even the salsa was lacking in flavor-not even the basics with salt. I have no idea what these people are talking about when it comes to the chips-they weren't fresh and also came unsalted. My entree was an absolute joke. Their shrimp tacos are literally the worst I've ever had. It comes as a set of three -each with 4 minimally seasoned shrimp with double corn tortillas. They give you one side of red sauce (not spicy, not salsa, not pico-not sure what it really was) and one side of chopped onions with cilantro. The worst part is that this place is how it is pointlessly expensive. Nothing about their entrees commands the prices they are asking for-entrees hover around the $16-20 mark but it's literally standard Tex Amex fare. Every entree was at least $5-7 more than they should be. Service is also lacking. Our server did the bare minimum. He messed up my order but that's forgiveable. Not checking on the food, regularly refilling drinks, and disappearing for long periods of time aren't. All in all, their nice building gets them an extra star. Otherwise, don't waste your time or money here-it's just not worth it. read more

As others have said, the food lacks flavor. It was some of the blandest mexican food I've ever had. The ground beef appeared to have no seasoning at all and the salsa was a half step up from ketchup. If I could give this place zero stars I would have. My reading is based off my opinion and the opinion of the people in my party. I want to first note this was our first visit to this restaurant and unfortunately for me to say they dropped the ball would be a huge understatement. I will rate each category so that the reader of this has a better understanding of this facility. Let me start off with the Ambience. The restaurant from the outside portrays authentic features and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The outside of the restaurant is very welcoming to passersby. The inside of the restaurant is also very aesthetically pleasing as it was clean, not overly bright and The music was just the right volume. This unfortunately is the highlight of the restaurant. Unpleasant Chemical Smell Throughout the entire meal there was a unpleasant chemical smell/cleaning solution. I don't know if the staff was over cleaning the tables or if it was coming from the bathroom area. But a heavy odor of bleach was very noticeable in the air. Service To put it frankly, the service was lacking. This is not coming from someone who is too picky or hard to please. I used to work in this industry and I know what it takes to make sure you take care of your guests. My wife ordered a three combo meal. Which was supposed to come with a taco, soft taco and enchilada. When the food arrived to the table she got the soft taco and the enchilada however the hard taco was missing. So we politely asked the waitress to bring the taco to the table. After about 10 minutes we never received the hard taco. The manager came to the table not by our requests but to check on us. We told the manager that my wife was missing a hard taco and he went back to get it. 10 more minutes pass by and no hard taco. So we had them remove it from the bill. This is extremely pathetic! To have to tell the manager about a missing item from an order in the manager! Forgot to bring the item. The Food I saved the best for last! And I say this with the upmost sarcasm I can muster. I ordered the fajitas chicken and steak. Usually most Mexican restaurants when you order fajitas you get the onions and peppers and the meat of choice. Usually the onions and peppers are chopped and the meat is laid nicely on top of the onions and peppers to create a nice presentation. However, the presentation of these fajitas resembled cat food. Everything was chopped and mixed together and the chicken and steak looked as if it was taken out of a can. The fajita plate was not even sizzling, it was more lukewarm than anything else. The fajitas themselves lacked even a hint of flavor. The tortillas were not warmed and presented as cool. I am not even sure I would rate this as food. A lot of this tasted like it was out of a can and not freshly made as it should be. Summary I would not recommend this place to anyone looking to try Mexican food for the first time or the hundredth time. It's such a shame that a building as nice as this serves subpar food to its guests. The managers should really look hard into revamping their menu and the quality of the food. There is way too many choices in the Valley view area to be serving poor quality food. read more
