Burrito
Hanaa K.

I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't the typical Tex Mex style restaurant. They had a lot of seafood options. The entire menu was pretty extensive so it can be intimidating. I ended up getting a California style burrito thats massive. He got one of the mixed meat plates. Everything came out fresh and delicious. The grilled dish he for was a little on the salty side but still a lot more than we expected. Prices on the menu can be intimidating but they are very generous with portions. There are dishes that are over $150 and drinks over $75. The drink menu was also quite extensive. So much that it made us think it was maybe too big and they couldn't put our quality food with so many dishes. We were pleasantly surprised. The only thing I didn't care for was the salsa. The smoked salsa was much better. You have to ask for it. For dessert we got pineapple upside down cake. It was just OK for me. It could have done without the caramel because the cake itself was super sweet. The ice cream helped balance it some. We would definitely try other dishes. It was a pleasant surprise. Staff was friendly and there was plenty of parking. We brought some of the steak home and the pieces in the restaurant were ok but the one's we had today were very gamey and chewy. The only steak I could recommend are the bits on the burrito but not for the large mixed meat plates.

Ceviche was beautifully presented but my co-diners didn't love the flavor. Note also how awkward the booth was.

I was really stuck between 3 and 4 stars because the value of the food and drinks for the price is unreal, the menu is overflowing with options, they have a designated vegetarian section on their menu, and our actual server was lovely. But a few things just didn't hit right and it affected the meal. First, when you walk in the decor is confused. I was told this was formerly an Applebee's and while a definite effort was made to make it feel different the bones and layout were definitely dated. In particular, there were no freestanding tables and only booths, which would have been fine except the booths were all 2 or 4 seaters, and we were a party of 6. There was one corner booth that could accommodate more than four people and we asked to be seated there - even though the restaurant was mostly empty and nobody was using it - but the host refused and insisted a 4 person booth was for 6 people. We eventually asked a group of servers if we could move and they said of course so we did and it's a good thing because the food dishes were so huge there is no way we would have been able to get all the food on our original table and our elbows would have been constantly knocking each other. Then the single booth that was large enough to accommodate us was bizarrely shaped like an oval and you had to slide aalllllll the way around the oval to get out, plus the table was too big for the booth on the long sides so some of us ate with the table really close to our bodies. Honestly this part of the experience put me in a less forgiving mood for the rest of the meal. That may seem like a nitpick but keep in mind that a big selling point of the menu here is large sharable group items, like overstuffed molcajetes and huge party platters. It's a menu designed for groups but they have no comfortable group seating. If this were more of a sexy, intimate date space with a menu geared in that direction, I would have less to say about the seating problems. Additionally the levels and partitions throughout the restaurant made it feel really cramped. There was an effort to give it a seafood theme with a fish tank and nautical themed wallpaper, but there were also these rattan light fixtures and fake greenery and pink neon signs everywhere which didn't make sense (one said "cheers") so there was nothing here that made me realize upon entering that it was a Mexican restaurant. The booths were 1970s orange and clashed with everything else. Honestly I would have guessed tiki bar or SE Asian if the name weren't in Spanish. I didn't taste anyone else's food at my table. I didn't get the sense that anything was bad but I also didn't sense that anyone was overly impressed with anything other than just the sheer size of the portions. Everyone felt fine after eating so safety wasn't an issue but I was told the ceviche two others ordered had kind of a strange flavor. I found my meal mediocre. I got the elote appetizer and it was way too creamy/mayonnaisy without a lot of flavor, though it was cute for them to serve it with an individual mini bottle of tajin. I ordered a baked shrimp en cocotte kind of dish in a poblano sauce and, again, it felt too cheesy/creamy without enough kick from the poblano and I don't love shrimp with that much dairy. I love poblano sauce so, while there was nothing objectively wrong with this dish, I was underwhelmed. The shrimp themselves were cooked nicely. My shrimp also came with a slice of garlic bread and a scoop of flavored rice which were both tasty but not the main event. It also came with veggies but the menu showed broccoli which I can't stomach and, to her credit, when I asked the server to sub nopal she didn't blink. The nopal, however, was a whole paddle and it was tart, a little firm for my taste and kind of slimy. Personally I prefer nopales to come in strips and be well cooked and seasoned. This was very bare. All in all I would give this place another shot because the value was great and service was good once we got past the original seating issue. The menu was large and diverse so we barely grazed the surface of their offerings and it may be that there are other stellar items we just didn't get a chance to try. But I also would not come again in a group larger than 4 people because of seating limitations, which takes a lot of the funner, higher value group platters off the list of options. I would highly recommend this restaurant tear down some of the partitions and get rid of the booths on the bottom tier to make room for movable tables.

Food was amazing and large portions. Atmosphere was very pleasant and fun. Our waiter was very friendly.

What my fiancé got vs what he ordered
Leslie B.

My fiancé and I were eager to try this new restaurant as we are both seafood lovers. We walked in on a Tuesday night and found it mostly deserted save one or two tables. Our waiter was prompt and attentive. We had heard it was expensive, but were pleasantly surprised to see the only truly expensive menu items were the huge seafood platters, none of which we were interested in. I was excited to see a variety of ceviche on the menu and had a hard time deciding between the various options. My fiancé also had a hard time deciding and eventually settled on the campechana de mariscos (octopus and shrimp, served with rice and tortillas). Both dishes were HUGE and satisfying. For $19.99 I couldn't believe how much ceviche I got. My fiancé helped me eat it, I ate it, and I still took half home. My fiancé's dish came with salad, rice, bread, and a full plate of seafood, also for only $19.99. How anyone could say this place is expensive is beyond me. Now, for the reason for only four stars. My Ceviche Tropical was supposed to have octopus in it and did not, and my fiancé did not get what he ordered at all. He still enjoyed it, but we looked over the menu several times to see if they mistakenly cooked another dish for him and couldn't find anything resembling what he actually got. We chalked it up to them being newly open and needing to work out the kinks, as we visited within their first month of operation. All that being said, we left full and in agreement we will go back.

Ambiance was great and food was even better! So delicious and excellent service! Our whole group enjoyed their food. The Buffalo wings were also really yummy!

After decades of being in business, the Applebee's at Valley View Mall recently closed. These types of closings must be contagious as the same thing just happened to the T.G.I. Fridays across the street from said Applebee's. It concerns me when this happens in my community as you end up with dead spaces that remain unoccupied for years. Now, I am in no way attached to the failing-chain businesses that leave, but I desire to see new things make use of their old spots. This is why I'm always thrilled to see decent businesses, particularly local ones, move into these vacant locations. Fortunately, a new restaurant has chosen to take on Applebee's former building. What we now have is Mariscos Nayarit Mexican Restaurant. This place is a seafood-heavy Mexican restaurant with a lot of the expected usuals as well. And so, being curious, my colleague and I tried this eatery for lunch. The hostess and waiter were reasonably attentive, so customer service was a positive overall. For my meal, I ordered the Arroz con Camarón. The shrimp had the perfect texture and softness that is achieved when cooked right. Their grilled flavor was undeniably delicious. The queso poured over the rice was velvety and rich giving the dish a nice touch too. The overall experience was pleasant, but there were two drawbacks that we noticed when we were there. The first one was the prices being a little high, well some menu items were very high, and the second one was the lack of an ABC license. The latter should be resolved soon enough, which will help their business pickup, but the former might be somewhat of an issue with the economy being in the shape it is right now. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but I feel the prices should go down a little. Having said all of this, I think Mariscos Nayarit has potential and I look forward to seeing how they do in the Valley View Mall area.

The ribeye and shrimp is what I had.

Ambiance very good, clean and good layout. Service attentive and friendly. Food was upper end on price but you get what you pay for and it was delicious. Large menu with good variety.

The entrance to the restaurant. Each of the windows have booths with customers eating there.

After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Sixth and Sky Rooftop Grille, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example of one of them. Today, before going to watch the That's so 70's Concert at the Mill Mountain Theatre, located in the Center in the Square, where this restaurant is also located, I decided to have dinner there, recalling that I had dined there the first day it opened, and many other times as well, for its one of my favorites restaurants in Roanoke. I made my reservation through Open Table for four o'clock, requesting table 62, which is the one I've always dined at since they opened the restaurant. When I arrived I parked my pearl white Lexus in The Center in the Square Garage, conveniently located next door and operated by PARKRoanoke, where you pay a reasonable fee by scanning a QR code when you arrive, fill out the information about your car and credit card payment and it tracks the time from when you arrived and submitted this information to the time when you leave the parking garage, automatically charges your credit card. There is a door from the garage to the Center in the Square building, where I took the elevator to the restaurant on the 6th floor. Once I arrived at the restaurant at the exact time of my reservation, the elegant and friendly host lady greeted me and took me to my usual table after recognizing who I was. Not long after, Kassidy my server arrived, gave me a warm greeting and took my order. To drink I ordered a Virgin Cranberry Mule. As appetizer I had the Scallop Thermidor, followed by a Side Mixed Green Salad with tomatoes, onions, parmesan cheese, and croutons, with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. As my main entrée I had their 8oz center cut Filet Mignon cooked medium-rare, served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and with herb butter on top. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. My server brought me a glass carafe of water with which she filled my water glass. Even the water here is high-quality and served elegantly. My Mocktail tasted simply marvelous. I enjoyed it to the last drop. The Scallops Thermidor had an amazing flavor, and I enjoyed enmensely. Everything was served at the right timing. Then came the salad which was made with fresh, quality ingredients. And the Filet Mignon was so tender and cooked just right, that while I was eating it I was already thinking on returning to have it again. The asparagus were fresh and just the right thickness to be able to enjoy them to the fullest. And the herb butter gave the mashed potatoes and everything else the perfect flavor. The manager gracefully took time to come and visit me at my table. He genuinely welcomed me and showed appreciation for my visit and for the good customer I've been of the restaurant ever since it opened its doors. Little did he know all the people that I've recommended this restaurant to. For dessert I had the Bananas Foster Beignets. The croissant dough of the Beignets were a bit overcooked, but overall the dessert tasted amazingly delicious. Next time I will remember to remind the cooks not to overcook the Beignets. In conclusion this is and continues to be one of my favorites restaurants in Roanoke, and once again I had an extraordinary dining experience there.

With a cute, friendly, caricature Shrimp Chef design in it's logo, and the slogan: "Fresh Seafood Made To Order," how can one go wrong? Located in an unassuming and relatively small building painted light blue on the outside, and with a simple sign on the roof above the entrance that reads: "COME ON IN / NEW MENU / DON CAMARON SEAFOOD," this very unique seafood restaurant located on Brambleton Ave in Cave Spring, Virginia, is more than just your ordinary Seafood restaurant. It's Mexican heritage cuisine brings to the menu items some flavors that contribute to the seafood taste more delicious than ever before. When driving down Brambleton Ave you can't miss a tall orange sign with the name and logo of the restaurant, placed right in front of their huge parking lot, providing convenient complimentary parking to all its customers. The restaurant building itself looks small from the avenue because is in the back of the parking lot, but once you get closer you will begin to notice the difference. Its log cabin architectural building design seems to give it warmth and as you enter its doors, all the wooden accents in the interior design of the building, together with the blue lighting treatment of the bar, and logo cabin look of the main dining area creates a cozy, warm, and friendly environment, perfect to enjoy a good meal and quality time with family and friends. As soon as I entered the restaurant, a friendly young lady greeted me with a friendly smile, took me to a table of my choice in the dining room, and handed me the menu. One can learn a lot about a restaurant from its menu. In this case, it was a beautifully designed menu, with its name, logo, and slogan on the cover. Open the menu and inside I found a good selection of seafood items, cooked in a variety of styles, with an easy to read font and highlighted with professionally taken photographs of the main items on the menu. Just from viewing the menu you can't help it but to want to return to taste some more of their delicious cuisine. My server, a very friendly young lady with a welcoming smile came by, introduced herself and took my order. To drink I had an Horchata, which is a sweet non-alcoholic drink made with rice and sugar, and very refreshing with lots of ice. They also had domestic and imported beers and wine on the menu. As my main course, I ordered the Camarnes Gratinados (Shrimp covered in bacon and melted cheese), with the two sides of French Fries and Hushpuppies. I found all the items of the menu to be reasonably priced and served abundantly. My food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and you can even watch this in one of my video clips accompanying this review. Everything on the plate was amazingly delicious, quality, and plentiful. The shrimps were fresh, plumpy, tasty, and cooked to perfection. The Fries were the right cut and fried just right to be crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. And the Hushpuppies were amazing. My compliments to the Chef for such an extraordinary cuisine. I believe that the success of good tasting seafood lies in the way it is prepared and cooked. No dinner is complete without a good sweet dessert. So as the grand finale I had a Flan. Now this was no ordinary flan. I invite you to look through my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourself. It was homemade, made with the riches of ingredients, and tasted splendidly. One of the best, if not the best Flan I ever had. In conclusion, I had an extraordinary dining experience and highly recommend this Seafood Restaurant. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Billy's in Downtown Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. From the very first time I visited and dined at Billy's, I fell in love with it. I don't know if it was its history. Its historic building was constructed in 1912 and originally housed the Ritz Hotel. Then in 1979 John and Betsy Williams opened "Billy Ritz," named in homage to the building's history and a former local saloon. For 29 years (1979 - 2007) the Williamses operated the restaurant, making it a popular downtown fixture. In 2007 the restaurant closed and in 2008 the building was purchased by new owners: Neel and Neal Keesee. Following extensive renovations that preserved its historic character, the restaurant reopened in May 2012 as "Billy's". And since then Billy's operates as a popular downtown dining spot with a focus on fine dining, and is celebrated for maintaining a piece of old downtown Roanoke history while providing modern, upscale dining. Or maybe it is, its refined American cuisine with a focus on steaks and fresh seafood, such as scallops, shrimps, lobsters, mahi-mahi, southern salmon, or catch of the day. Or its drinks, a well-curated bourbon bar with an extensive wine list and signature cocktails. It might also be its elegant and historic atmosphere, with a clasic dining room, a trendy outdoor patio, and private dining rooms to host private events and celebrations. Or even its corner location in one of the most valuable and desired areas in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. But even if all of the above are an important factor in my selection, I would say that last but most important of all is its staff; from its managers, its cooks, its bartenders, and its servers. They are not only knowledgeable, professional, and hospitable, but together form a team with the goal of making you feel at home there and having an extraordinary dining experience. That's why I say: "Any day can be made special by dining at Billy's." This Saturday, I went to dine there after making my reservation in the Open Table app. Even though they could not honor my initial table request for a window view table in the main dining room, the manager was kind enough to accommodate me at a window view table of another very quaint dining room facing the outdoor patio. I believe it was table 54, served by the very friendly, kind, and efficient server, Savannah. She first brought me an amazing drink prepared by my favorite bartender. Then she gracefully took my order. I had Four Bacon Wrapped Scallops as appetizer. An 8oz Filet cooked medium-rare with a Lobster Tail enhancement, Cheddar Smashed Potatoes, and Grilled Asparagus, as my main entrée. And for dessert, my favorite, their famous Crème Brûlée. She did an excellent job in making sure I was well taken care of by coming by at the appropriate times and even when she was serving a large table in the main dining room, she made sure to send the principal host to see if I needed anything. As I was dining, the restaurant's manager came by my table to say hello, and that is something I truly appreciate from any quality restaurant I dine at. What an outstanding dining experience. And even if I was only one customer dining there that busy evening, the following day I received a text message from one of my fellow Yelpers who was in town for a week of conferences and was looking for a place for a "friends' get-together. And without any hesitation I recommended Billy's. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a good word is worth many customers. And thus, I give this restaurant a 5 Star and now you know why.

Always heard about Billy's, so decided to give it a try. As…read morewe walked in, we were greeted by Melia, the hostess. She was very cheerful and friendly.I liked how there is actually space between the tables . The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. Our waitress Melissa was excellent. She had some great suggestions on what to try as we were first time guests. The calamari was fresh and crunchy. The glazed bacon was delicious. The lamb chop lollipops were ok, too raw. Caesar salad was tasty and one order is enough for 4 people. My NY strip steak was tender and cooked to perfection. I tried a side of risotto and was definitely not disappointed. I find they have a good selection of wines as well. Billy's is definitely a great choice for a nice dinner!
