This called to mind one time they had in their menu one of the most delicious sandwiches that I have ever had at a deli: The Cuban Sandwich 12". It had tangy Pulled Pork, Black Forest Ham, and Swiss Cheese with Yellow Mustard and Pickles served on a Toasted Baguette. It was so good that every time I ordered out, I kept on ordering this sandwich at McAlister Deli. Then all of a sudden one day when I went to their website at DoorDash I noticed it was missing from the menu there. I contacted the restaurant manager to inquire as to why it was missing. She agreed with me that this was one of their most delicious sandwiches, but told me that sometimes Corporate changes the menu and removes some items, and that in the future they can also bring it back. So I thanked her for her feedback and told her to look at her records and see all the times that I had purchased this sandwich from their Deli, since actions speak louder than words. I then contacted their corporate office to inquire as well and they gave me the same answer. So I had to resign myself to be without that sandwich anymore and stay just with the memories of how good it had tasted when I was fortunate enough to have tried it. Tonight, when I was looking for sandwich places to order a sandwich delivered. I said to myself (since I'm a person of high Hope), let me look at the McAlister Deli site and see if by any chance (although many of times I had repeated this action with no results) they had brought it back. After all, in this Holiday Season anything is possible for those who believe. And you wouldn't guess what happened next. Right there, in their menu, was my favorite sandwich, that I had wished for for so long. Needless to say, I went and ordered it right away through DoorDash without even thinking to go to their website and ordering it from there like I used to. As I waited, I thought of how some things in life are priceless, without being expensive. And how maybe a simple request from one person can make a big difference in an important decision as if to bring it back. But for whatever reason it was back, and once again, McAlister Deli's became one of my favorites restaurants because of this. I followed the progression of the DoorDasher through their app until "headed your way." Then very soon the doorbell rang and the DoorDasher delivered my sandwich, which arrived well-wrapped and in perfect condition. The only thing missing was that it wasn't toasted. As you all know, part of the secret of a successful Cuban Sandwich is this. Which involves using a sandwich press or a heavy skillet to compress and grill the sandwich until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted. It's a distinctive step that gives the sandwich its signature crust and is essential to what makes it a true Cuban sandwich. I truly hope that when the management of the restaurant reads this review, they take steps to see that this doesn't happen again. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Jersey Mike's Subs, near the Tanglewood Mall, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located in a modern small strip mall next to Panda Express on the premises of Tanglewood Mall, this small sub shop has always been there since I knew about it. But now all of a sudden, I was tired of hearing about it, and decided to go see for myself and experience what the hype is all about. When I arrived I parked on one of the parking spaces in front of the sub shop. Its front was all windows with a bright red OPEN sign. Its shop front sign read "Since 1956 Jersey Mike's Subs." Little did I know that Jersey Mike's Subs began in 1956 as Mike's Subs, a single store sandwich shop in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, founded by Mike Ingravalo. Then in 1975, a 17 year old employee named Peter Cancro purchased the business with a loan from his football coach and began to grow it. The company was rebranded as Jersey Mike's Subs in 1987 to emphasize its New Jersey origins, and under Cancro's leadership, it expanded to become the national and international chain it is today. As I got closer to its glass door, the glow of its light inside somehow told me that this was not your usual sub shop. The place was clean and organized, with a wall of black & white photographs celebrating its origin. And a team of friendly and efficient employees behind the counter preparing the subs of the customers lined up. When my term to order came up, I ordered The Original Italian, in white sub buns, regular size. As soon as I ordered, the young lady employee started to slice the fresh meats for my sub and piling them up on the freshly baked sub buns. Then she passed it on to another employee who asked me if I wanted it Mike's Way with "the Juice." Little did I know at the time what that meant, but she described it as with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, spices, and the Juice (a red wine vinigar & olive oil blend). It did not take long for me to assimilate the jargon here. Then, after placing large amounts of these items in the sub, she asked me if I wanted any other ingredient from there, and she placed generous amounts of the items I requested, such as pickles and banana peppers. When she finished, I realized that that has been the Italian Sub with the most fresh meats and toppings that I have ever had. And I understood first hand why they call it "Above the Rest." Around the time promised, my doorbell rang and a very courteous young lady handed me a nicely wrapped Sub with the receipt attached to the bag containing it. Three of the reasons why I continue to like Subway, even though I also enjoy Jersey Mike's and Jimmy John's as well, are because of their soft freshly baked breads, high-quality meats, and extensive variety of fresh toppings they generously pile into the Sub. When I opened the Footlong Sub which was well-wrapped in their trademarked wrapping paper, it looked amazing with the generous portions of meats and toppings which I had asked for. However, I immediately noticed that the bread was stale. So much so that when I held half of the Sub the bread was so dry and leathery that it broke into pieces. What a pity I thought to myself because everything else about it was wonderful and delicious. But the bread being that way took away from the dining experience being the best. I hope both the owner of this franchise and corporate read this review and take action to see that this doesn't happen again. It's the first time it has happened to me at a Subway before, yet in a way it has completely changed my perception of the brand. That is why little details like this one that don't even cost much to have been replaced, make the big difference. I honestly hope this restaurant changes for the better because that is the reason that Subway, the brand has not only survived throughout all these years, but remains up there, even with all its completion.

When it was my turn to order at the counter a very friendly and kind young lady greated me and took my order. I ordered an 8 inch Bellacino's Pride Pizza as my main entrée. It contained pepperoni, ham, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onion, black olives & mozzarella cheese. To drink they had Pepsi products so I had a regular Pepsi with free refills. As I waited I saw that all their employees worked closely together in teamwork. When my food was ready one of their employees brought it out to my table. That was a welcome gesture since in many pizza places you have to get up and get it. The Pizza was 8 inches, just the right size for one person. In most places they don't have this size.
