I really appreciate the speed and the willingness to bring more free chips! Normally I go straight for the tacos, which are always a hit. The specials on the back of the menu are SO worth checking out for some more unique finds. Today I tried a torta (forgive me forgetting the menu name) with birria that was absolutely fantastic. The combinations are also a great price, especially if you can make it for lunch. Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention the happy hour. You can get some great deals here and they have an excellent drink selection. Alongside the alcoholic beverages there are also non-alcoholic smoothies with the same flavor options as daiquiris, so great options there too!!

We're awash in Mexican restaurants where we currently reside, and I would be perfectly fine not…read moreeating in most of them: same boring menu of tacos, fajitas, refried beans and yellow rice. Plaza Mexican is a cut above most. The decore is eclectic, walls covered with a zany mix of brown gunite-like gravel, white and silver tile, faux brick, etc.--a definite Aztec vibe, I believe. We went there with one of our toddler grandsons and our daughter. We ordered table-side guacamole, enchiladas, street corn, fried plantains, and a novel Philly cheesesteak burrito. Well our little guy loved the guacamole, eating almost the entire bowl. For the adults, it could've used a lot more lime juice, and seasoning. The street corn was okay, but could have been sweeter. My burrito was a cheesy mix of lightly sautéed green peppers, onions, and queso cheese. I was slightly disappointed with the meat. It was definitely ground beef, and I expected more like a minute steak. But it was an interesting dish that I would probably order again. The menu said it had mushrooms, but they were hard to find. I washed it down with a draft Negra Modello. Our grandson and daughter liked their enchiladas. Our server was pleasant and on the ball; she gave us excellent service. You're lucky to have the plaza in town. I know it has been in business quite a while and they do a great job!

We walked in expecting a typical dining experience with a menu but found out things had changed…read moredramatically. Our hostess, who we later found out was the owner, explained to us that if we wanted food, we could order it from outside where there was a traveling chef with a pizza oven. This was a big change from the usual menu and what we had expected. We decided to go with the flow, take a seat at the Ouija board table, place our drink orders, and go outside to order food. This week the chef had a woodfired pizza oven. Keep in mind, cider is the focus here. So, my husband's old fashioned was made with cider. Hearing this, I asked for my cider on the side rather than in my cosmo. We learned that the owner's background is movie set design and that she worked on movies like Harry Potter, so the decor was a combination of old industrial plant and haunted house. The bar had "potions" with smoke oozing out. There were also skeletons and skulls throughout the restaurant along with spooky photos that changed from normal to scary. She even allowed us to explore the different back rooms one of which she called the "swamp room." The pizza was good, and we enjoyed listening to the live music which wasn't overwhelmingly loud. Overall, everyone was kind and made us feel welcome. We later ordered the blueberry cobbler for dessert which was warm and tasty.

For an area with slim vegan pickings, this felt like a gold mine. We ended up trying a few menu items and they were all delicious and tasted quite fresh. My biggest gripe was that the risotto was made with a medium grain rice rather than a traditional Arborio, and that the prices for food were on the higher end given the portion sizes. The cider flight was delicious. There is plenty of seating, include extensive outdoor seating that looks out to the forests surrounding. Indoors is filled with spooky, eclectic industrial decor. The staff were friendly and thoughtful. It's a gem of a spot!
