Chicken Power Bowl
Steve D.

I enjoyed the first-rate service, clean dining area and tasty food during my dine-in lunch visit to this new location. My chicken power bowl ($6.59) was ready just one minute after I ordered at one of the two kiosks. It had good amounts of fresh ingredients without any skimping. The employee at the counter noticed I had failed to order a beverage and brought me an ice water - very thoughtful! This location has a drive-thru. Overall, very nice!

Bug in taco.

Never been more disgusted with a food establishment. After eating other items from our order, I opened a taco to add sauce and immediately found a bug inside of it. I tried calling the store and someone picked up then hung up and turned off the phones. I also called and emailed corporate and was told I would hear back from upper management and that never happened.

Secondly, when I went home, I was just expecting tacos, and found this wide array of grilled vegetables in my takeout order. Thirdly, several of the tacos were insanely delicious. The server was pretty chill when I was placing my order. And the music in the background was Bad Bunny style, fun stuff.

The taco was not very good. Quite small and not much meat. The pastor was dried out. The taste was okay. I did like that they gave me a lot of the toppings on the side. I was able to put a lot of onions, cilantro, pineapple, and lime to make the taco taste good enough to eat. I also got a burrito. I usually love beans. But I really did not like these. They were whole pinto beans (I think) and they were undercooked and had a bit of crunch. The texture and flavor was unpleasant. It was a birria burrito and I love birria but everything was flavorless besides the undercooked beans. I threw most of the burrito away and I believe it was a $12+ burrito. The service was fine and the order was ready when we arrived. It was packaged well.

Finally stopped by Tacos El Gallo and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered online without issue…read more Parking on SW Boulevard is always a nightmare, especially in that little area but I was able to find a spot after a few loops around. I wish I would've had more time to look around the market because it looked like they had a lot of good stuff but I'll have to go back and see. They do have tables inside that you can eat at. The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day. Definitely check them out if you're on the boulevard and want some tasty, Mexican grub.

A Hidden Gem in Kansas City!…read more We flew into Kansas City for a quick getaway and, of course, we had to find some good local food! After searching for tacos, we put the car in motion and headed to Tacos El Gallo on Southwest Blvd--and I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two beautiful, spirited Hispanic young ladies who were incredibly welcoming and took the time to explain the menu and help us decide what to try. We went with the chicken, steak, and birria tacos, along with corn elote. We paired everything with mango and hibiscus agua fresca, and let me just say... WHEW! Everything was fresh, but lacked seasoning! The birria tacos were definitely a standout, but honestly, we enjoyed everything we ordered. And the customer service made the experience even better. If you're visiting Kansas City and looking for some authentic, flavorful tacos with great hospitality, put Tacos El Gallo on your list! They will need something special to set themselves apart from the competition, and I am here to tell you that they have just that. For starters, they have plenty of outside seating for nicer weather, an array of taco variations and other dishes that will suit just about anyone's palate, fresh TexMex condiments, and a full bar on site. Their taco game is right up there with the market players (pro tip: if you do shellfish, then get something shrimp) and are made fresh as you order. This visit had us sampling tacos with chips & guac as well as the house margarita. The marg runs $10 and is a great value, plus they have a frozen version that they have mixing on the reg. The tacos were sublime: a pair of featured shrimp tacos that have that SoCal fusion going on. BIG shrimp (I know, oxymoron) adorned with fresh fixins' and served up in fresh corn tortillas - hard to beat. And these are not small shrimp, no, these are a good-sized filling and seasoned just perfectly. Add in their freshly made green salsa with a basket of chips and guac with a kick and you are going to be happy. The bar is pretty solid and a great spot to finish your tacos while washing them back with a beverage. The house marg is a good choice as there is, but check out the 'Party Time', which is a fruity vodka banger of a cocktail. Almost all drinks, save for the frozen kinds, are made in front of you and delivered with a smile. Top-shelf stuff! Parking is downtown OP, so if IYKYK: you might have to walk a few steps, though there are spots in front of you're lucky. Pricing is fair & friendly with most single tacos running $5-ish. But the tacos are made to order and the value is well past the price point. Order at the window in the back (or on the kiosk), grab a table or a seat at the bar, and enjoy!

My lunch was over $16 and honestly one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. I paid extra for grilled shrimp, and they were cold, chewy, and extremely overcooked. My bowl was almost entirely rice. I did order extra rice, but that didn't mean that's all I wanted. There was barely any of the other ingredients -- just a tiny amount of beans and corn shoved into the corner. I was honestly shocked at how different this location was compared to Olathe. I almost took it back, but leaving work again during lunch just wasn't realistic, so I tried to eat what I could. Most of it ended up in the trash. NO guacamole which comes on the bowl. Highly disappointed overall. I also work with and interact with a lot of people daily, and I will definitely be spreading the word around my company about this experience.
