I'm overall a fan of Jose Peppers and this location pretty much met expectations of what I've come to expect from this chain. First of all, it's a clean and welcoming space, and easy to get into on a weeknight. I can't speak to weekends, but if it's anything like the one near my house it might get pretty busy on a Friday or Saturday evening. Jose Peppers specializes in tex mex, and honestly I've never had anything bad at any of their locations. If someone wants to get all up in arms about it not being "authentic" that's up to you, but I think tex-mex is pretty great, and Jose Peppers does a fine job at it. On this visit I had two tacos with beans and rice, and it was more than enough food. One other thing I do love about these restaurants is that the kids menu is always a hit, which means for a happy and full family. read more

It's hard to like Tex-Mex outside of Tex when you live in Tex. Jose Peppers is a notable exception. We've had them catered for family parties and stop in for lunch after church when we are visiting in Kansas. The spices are well balanced, salsa has appropriate amounts of cilantro and the white queso is tasty - particularly with spinach. I love that they offer lunch portion meals Mon-Sun. I accidentally ordered from the wrong Jose Peppers. Sue me. But what bothers me is how the staff handled it. I showed up, explained what happened, and mentioned I'd accidentally left my phone at home (so I couldn't even reorder easily or check anything). The girl at the counter just stared at me blankly. No offer to help. No "want to place a new order?" Nothing. The place wasn't even busy. She just stood there useless. Staring at me. I was hungover, phone-less, and clearly needed a little human decency. Instead, I got a blank stare and zero effort. It's not hard to be helpful, especially when your restaurant isn't even busy. Consistent and flavorful. The menu has plenty of options including Tex-mex and traditional. The service is always good, staff are pleasant. Servings are a good size for the $$. It's clean and there's plenty of space. I picked up a to go order of chips and Espinaca con queso to go with taco night at home- and got home with 1/3 bag of chips. We do take out and eat in at Jose Peppers. I love the chicken enchilada plate! I always ask for all beans and no rice. Sometimes they get it right. Anyway, the enchilada's are usually loaded with seasoned chicken and very tasty. I must say their Espinaca cheese dip is the best and their chips are perfectly light and usually fresh. I didn't use to like Jose Peppers, but it has grown on me and now I do like it. It is a more Americanized version of Mexican food, but does not have the fast food or big chain like taste to their food. But, it also does not taste as home made as some of the smaller non chain Mexican restaurants. I don't know if I have ever had anything here that I would say is the best of any of that plate or meal, but I do love their chips and Salsa! You really can't go wrong here if you like Mexican Food. I went with a group of 4 adults and 2 babies, and we were sat in a very long table within minutes. It was pretty tight seating for all of us, and we had to wipe down the booth before sitting. The server brought out unlimited salsa and got us our drinks. My sister and I ordered a full order of tacos (which usually comes with 2), and the server only got us the lunch special with one taco. It was pricey for the amount of food that we got, however, the tacos were tasty. My friends ordered the fajita, which came with two tortillas to enjoy. The little girls got the mac n' cheese with fries. It was nothing too special, but we liked how they split up the order in half and it was a good amount of food. I started my dinner search with "margarita near me" and Jose Peppers popped up and it was 4 minutes from my hotel. Ordered my margarita and the delivered chips and salsa. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa very fresh. My first margarita was a little disappointing, it was definitely a weak mix and watered down. But my carnitas tacos made up for margarita. They were perfect. The steak was cooked to perfection, the spice on them was just right. There was a great blend of fresh onions, cilantro and cheese. The verde sauce was fire! I have a lot of choices for quality Mexican food in my area. We decided to order carry out at Jose Peppers as we haven't been to one in years. Bad decision. We ordered curb side pickup and arrived on time for our order (6:35pm). After logging in and waiting ten minutes I decided to go into the restaurant to see what the hold up was. I arrived to see a lady that I assume was a manager yelling at a young kid '...don't talk back to me and do what I tell you...'. Then they both walked away and I was left standing there alone. Finally, someone told me they were 'working' on my order. I waited another 20 minutes before getting my food and the kid told me that he gave me some free queso for my patience. Which would have been nice if I had even a single chip to go with it. And I had ordered espinaca; but still not a single chip in the bag. Oh, and they had the wrong size lids on the queso and espinaca so you know what that means? Queso and espinaca all over the back of my car. And the food was all cold when I got it home. Not luke warm, cold. Cheese was hard, etc. The order had obviously been sitting around awhile. Never again. I will NEVER order from this place again. Horrible experience. read more

My dine-in lunch experience was very good. The pollo magnifico e-mail lunch special included a baked, cheese covered chicken burrito, refried beans, Mexican rice, and complimentary chips and salsa. It was a great value at $4.35. The burrito had a good amount of moist and tasty white meat. Everything was fairly mild, but tasty, with two bottled hot sauces available to spice things up. I liked the fast and efficient service (chips in two minutes and entree in another eight minutes), and the nicely done, clean interior with adult contemporary background music, plenty of TVs, a large bar area, and a patio. We went for a family Anniversary dinner at this location (7 people), they gave us a booth, instead we requested couple of tables put together since we had 7 people, the server was very nice and made the arrangements. The food was delicious (I ordered the Cheese Crisp Salad, which was awesome), our server "James" was very professional and went out of his way with his service, Kudos to James, he deserves a raise! Service was very slow tonight. 15 minutes to get our queso, and that was after asking about it. 20 minutes to get our beers, again didn't get them until after we asked. And finally, more than 30 minutes to get our food. My plate was very hot, and the beans were drying out like they'd been under a heat lamp, and my wife's food was just like warm. Finished my beer about half way through my meal, and was never offered a second one. The manager was running all over the place. Seemed to be very scattered and unorganized. We go here a lot, and usually ask for James, Brett or Austin's tables, because they are great servers and we know we will get fantastic service, but unfortunately Austin was the only one of the three that was serving tonight, and we would have had a long wait. One of my favorite local chains. The chips and salsa are addictive. The espinaca is a great appetizer and I would recommend everyone give it a try. Between two people you can get 2 margaritas and an order of espinaca for $10 each. They also have a great menu selection and are willing to make almost anything vegetarian or gluten free. For the price point the food is fresh and well made. Although it can be in consistent at times, the staff is super friendly and willing to make it right if you mention any issues. read more

It's really quite hard to not enjoy Jose Peppers. Unlimited chips, drink deals, and yummy food makes for an all around great experience. We were seated promptly and the food/drinks didn't take to long I think the reason this needs to be a four star rather than a five has to do with a couple of things. First, there was a margarita deal (2 for $8 which I found pretty fabulous) but it had to be the house margarita and couldn't be substituted for a skinny! I thought this was a bit silly. Second, our actual waitress didn't show up until probably 20 minutes into our visit. She was busy which is completely understandable, but when she did come and ask if everything was alright, we didn't even know she was ours! Lastly, there were very good beer deals going on at the time that we were there. This would have been incredible, but we didn't see them until after we were finished. I just wish that our waitress, or host, had let us know that it was happy hour so that we could have taken them up on the deals! I hate to write negative reviews but tonight was the most disappointing dinner out we have had here. We have had average service in the past but wanted to give it another try. We were seating right away, but took over 15 minutes just for the first person to show up to our table. Drinks took a long time to arrive. We had to remind the server about the cheese dip. We finally were able to order but food took over 30 minutes to arrive and it was all incorrect & my husband never even received his meal. Never saw the server again until she almost delivered drinks to our table but realized they were to go to a different table and she walked off. We ended up flagging her down and telling her to take the undelivered food AND drink off the bill and bring the check. Well I love this place and usually get their tasty Tuesday Chicken burrito special that they are famous for. Every other week they offer a deal at lunch 11-2 for 4.35 which can't be beat. It's the chicken magnifico on Tuesdays or the Monterey burrito on Thursdays. They have very nice thin crispy chips and great salsa although the serving size is quite small. You can always ask for more though. The salsa has always been very nice although different every time as it's made fresh. This visit I had the special Monterey burrito. It was nice for the price but upon cutting it open I only found 3 pieces of dry over cooked chicken. The price is well worth the chips and such but I hope this was a one time deal. Obviously I'll return and recommend you check it out. read more

1st off, the customers in front of us at the hostess stand were not wearing masks and were not asked to wear masks. Very disappointed in that. 2nd, we sat outside since it was nice out. We waited 20 minutes for a waiter to come to us. My friend went inside and told them we were still waiting and it still took several minutes for us to even get our drinks ordered. We ordered the espinaca dip and we received the Chile con queso. The manager swung by and gave an apology lacking any genuine emotion. Then we were served the wrong food. We ordered enchilada platter and crispy tacos and received a burrito and some type of side. Once we explained this was not our ordered we received the correct one. A different manager served us our food and didn't not acknowledge everything that previously happened. Just overall disappointed at this location. Made a large pickup order at the JP at 143rd/Metcalf. Even ordered espinaca. Sent my son to pick it up. He came home with the large order and there weren't any nachos to dip in the salsa or espinaca. Not a single nacho. My son should have checked, but it's not the patrons responsibility to get the order right. That's on the staff. A classic neighborhood spot! Serving up all the usual Tex-Mex favorites. The guacamole and queso are both safe and we always get the mixed chicken/steak fajitas. Meh Mexican. It's good for your run of the mill American Mexican restaurant. I got there Baja Burrito, the description said "topped with sliced avocado" but really it was just one slice, more of a garnish than part of the burrito. Other than that, the burrito was delicious. One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. We visit on vacation and my son has severe food allergies. We order our meal and specifically say no cheese in the tacos. His meal arrives and has extra cheese. We call over the waitress and manager to ask for it to be re-made. To be disbelief, the manager says "sorry but it's already made and you did not specify no cheese. " I could not believe what I was hearing and refused to take the meal back and make it as we ordered. My 6 yr old son was in tears and this so called manager could careless. Additionally, he refused to give his name and charged us for the meal. I tried calling their corporate office, however no return phone calls. I will NEVER and I suggest to everyone not to visit any of these locations. I am still in shock on how this was handled. read more
