3.5 stars overall…read more They were out of half the choices they have so be sure to ask what's available before you set your eyes on something. Now the meats are cooked really well and are flavorful. At the same time, they are drowning in grease and by the time I ate it the grease had seeped through both tortillas. The tacos are 3 bucks a piece, which is reasonable but everything else on the menu was a but steep in my opinion.

I'm always on the lookout for great "authentic" mexican tacos, and the Taco Boy delivers!!! Being…read morein Birmingham I've only tried a few taco food trucks but this one had been the best so far. My favorite taco is the lengua (cow tongue), and his was seasoned to PERFECTION and tender AF!! I was told that all the tacos were $2, but upon my visit, they decided to increase the prices to $2.50. The lengua tacos are usually priced more at any taco taqueria and here it's $3. With this price change at the day I decided to come is why I'm giving them four stars! On this visit, I had the lengua, cabeza, and the campechano tacos all the way, meaning cilantro and onions. I noticed that they add cabbage as well which was different and next time I'll just request strictly cilantro and onions only. Don't forget your red (spicy) and green (mild) salsas. I have noticed that the taco trucks here don't offer the pickled or grilled vegetables on the side to compliment the tacos. This taco truck is located next to a bodega off Morgan Rd next to Advance Mower. Please keep in mind they accept cash and if you must use a credit/debit you have to go in the store and that may be subject to other fees.

The line really didn't seem long enough for the wait to order but that could have been a customer causing the delay. When they are busy it would be helpful to have more than one person taking orders. We had hoped to find some seating on the patio since it was such a pleasant evening but most everyone else had the same idea and there was not any available tables. Once we ordered it did not take long for our chips and queso to arrive followed soon after by our entrees. They actually offered us a second tray of queso & chips due to an order mix up (we think it was actually supposed to go to a nearby table). The El Matador Margarita (premium white tequila, Patron Citronage & pineapple juice) was good and could have easily been happy with another or even a pitcher. I opted for the Guacin' on Sunshine (shrimp, black beans, pineapple pico, cilantro ranch & guac)) & Tan Lines (mahi, pineapple pico, cilantro, ranch & fresco cheese) tacos and my wife chose the Reef 'n Beef bowl (steak, shrimp, tomatoes, rice, black beans, roasted corn, onions & cilantro ranch). I had requested no guacamole but it came on anyway and they also went overboard with the onion for my wife's bowl. Otherwise everything was good but not as incredible as I was expecting. If it was closer to home, we still would likely at least pick up regularly and we will definitely plan to come back when my daughter & her husband come back in town.

Florida came in looking tough, but by the end of the weekend, they were heading home with their tails tucked. That kind of win deserves a proper celebration, and Taco Mama is always a solid call. Normally, this place is slammed--line out the door, controlled chaos at the counter, and a sea of college kids fueling up. But today? A rare sight. With it being the last day of Spring Break, the students were either on the road back to T-Town or at home enjoying some real home cooking. Either way, we walked into what felt like a private showing. Taco Mama consistently delivers, and let's be honest--it probably helps that you're the architect of your own meal. The "build your own bowl" is the move every single time. We stepped up to the counter (dodging a few lingering students along the way) and went to work. I kept it in my usual lane: chicken, lime rice, black beans, pickled jalapeños, cilantro, guacamole, tomatoes--with extra tomatoes--and queso. I'm sure I forgot something, but at a certain point, when you're piling on that many toppings, you could probably throw it on a pair of shoelaces or your front yard and it'd still taste good. It comes out loaded, paired with chips and salsa--"on the house"... or at least it used to feel that way. These days, let's just say it's probably baked into the price of your burrito bowl masterpiece. Either way, no complaints--it all hits. The atmosphere is part of the charm. Indoor seating with those big garage-style doors gives it an open, laid-back feel. Not a mechanic shop, of course--the only work being done here is adding a few pounds to your physique. If you're trying to convince yourself you're making healthy choices, grab the chicken bowl, maybe hold the queso (or don't--we both know how that ends), and settle in. The old wooden floors and overall vibe give the place some character, and on a day like today, the patio is a great option. Fresh air, good food, and a little post-sweep glow--it's hard to beat. And even for us "older folks," being surrounded by college energy has a way of making you feel just a little younger... at least until you stand up after the meal. All in all, Taco Mama is dependable, customizable, and exactly what you want after a big win. It may not be fancy, but it doesn't need to be--it just works.
