Stopped by for a quick lunch, having seen this spot and wanted to try it. Jack was at the register when I came in. He was pleasant and helped me decide what to get as I had not tried anything and asked for suggestions. I decided on a small nacho and two hard shell tacos. I ordered a half and half tea to go along with my meal. Cost for the whole meal was 11.13 I didn't hear my number being called and Trevon so was kind to bring my food to my table. While sitting at the table in the corner, I could smell cigarette smoke and not sure where it's coming from. Perhaps from the wall needing some work. The food was mediocre at best. The tacos are delicious. The Taco Salad never disappoint my taste buds and the Beefy nachos with Jalapeño peppers fit the appetite for spicy food. The line to the drive-thru was long but I patiently waited and placed my order and it was ready when I made it to the window. This salad is very filling with generous amounts of meat, beans, and cheese. Not sure if I was hungry but I ended up eating the flour tortilla bowl. I rarely eat the tortilla bowl, glad I did because it was good and fresh. Yesterday, I was able to have a nacho meal packaged separately for my autistic son to take in his school lunch--he really enjoys them. However, today I was told this could not be done due to corporate policy and was informed that if I had mentioned his autism, the request would have been accommodated. I don't believe I should have to disclose my child's diagnosis each time I visit. Taco Casa has multiple locations throughout central Alabama. I have to say that I was surprised that I have never been to here before or any of their locations. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food. Now please don't misunderstand, this is not really an authentic Mexican place. It is more a local version of Taco Bell. It is definitely fast food, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I think that Taco Casa also is so beloved here in Alabama is that it is a "home team" and I am guessing that many people still come here because they have been coming here since childhood and it holds some incredible memories. The tacos are definitely more American than Mexican, but again, this is not a bad thing. The taco burger is also an Americanized item, but I can guarantee that many a person enjoyed this very unauthentic Mexican meal. Taco Casa has a signature taste... either you love it or hate it. I love it because doesn't taste like fast food tacos...it taste like homemade tacos away from home. This is not authentic Mexican by far, but if you missed taco night at home or are just too tired to cook... go by Taco Casa. I had a taco, soft taco and a beefy nacho with peppers on the side. So yummy! This place is always clean and the staff is friendly. Right now the dining room is 50% open... with every other table being available. For those of who grew up in Tuscaloosa this Birmingham location is a piece of home. If you went to UA it's also a nostalgic environment. With that said it does the trick but the ones in Tuscaloosa are more packed and friendly. The tacos here are a little skimpy, not sure if they're trying to save ingredients. You can eat in, or use the drive through. The ice is the good crushed kind and the cups will keep all day. If you've never tried Taco Casa. Get 2 extra hot tacos, a small nachos and an ice tea. So for those of you who don't know or aren't in the know, Taco Casa is a Tuscaloosa/T-Town thing. You just have to either love it or don't. If you love it and crave it like I do, then you KNOW how serious this place is. It's not just nostalgia, it's seriously just good American-Mexican fast food. I'm not sure why we have never been here before. We saw a video on Facebook describing Alabama's best fast food. We immediately thought let's check it out! It's so affordable. We got two combos and a taco burger for about $20. It's a step above Taco Bell but not quite the same quality you'd get at a sit down place, more so the quality of a Moe's or Chipotle. The Taco Burger hits. It's a great drunk food type category. I ordered mine sober and it was still a great option. It is like if the McChicken had taco toppings. I like that eAch item can be ordered by hotness. We ordered everything hot but could have had it much hotter. I loved that you could tell the vegetables used, like the tomatoes atop the rice and beans. The enchilada was so good and we used the cheese sauce to dip chips in afterward. Highly recommend a combo with an enchilada. We felt like we had so much food. This is the best fast food Mexican hands down!! I wish there were more locations in the Birmingham area. I lived in Tuscaloosa for about 10 years and thet have multiple locations there. I LOOOOVE Taco Casa. And, I miss it dearly. It's a shame they're only in Alabama; although, I do think there's one in South Carolina, but it doesn't seem to have the same menu. Anywho...I was in town for a quick visit and had to meet my sorority sister's there for a late lunch. I had my usual...beefy nachos and 2 mild beef burritos. The burritos are smaller than a normal burrito, so the two is necessary. And, of course, a large sweet tea. I smashed!! And they have the good crushed ice too. When we first arrived, there were two couples dining in. The tables were social distanced length apart. Staff had on masks and gloves and sanitized everything down after each customer use. Before leaving, it got a little crowded. Glad we arrived when we did. Delicious per usual. I'll be sure to visit again on my next trip. read more

I felt like I had found a hidden treasure. Is this a five star restaurant? No. This is a five star fast food taco place when compared to others of the same nature (you know, like Taco Bell). I have been several times and ordered a variety of menu items between my family. Our favorite is the Taco Pizza. So crispy and they don't short you on meat topping. The burritos are also yummy. The flour tortillas on the burrito seem different than others. They are very thin and soft. Each one comes air sealed in a wrapper before being wrapped in paper. They have two kinds of nachos. Nacho Cheese and Queso. The Queso is better than most Mexican restaurants. You can also add beef to either and that takes it to another level with chips that are always fresh. If your a local then you already know all this, but if not, then what are you waiting for? Go to Taco Casa! And take home a bag of burritos for later. (They freeze perfectly.) read more

Absolutely love Taco Casa, I always stop by on my way home from my appointments in Birmingham. I also always get the messe nacho bc it's my favorite. If you love nachos (any of them) I suggest to sub chili for actual beef or chicken. My fiancé made the mistake of ordering one time & got highly upset bc he thought meat automatically came on it instead of chili. Soo yeaaa, don't make that mistake unless you actually like it that way. Would recommend over Taco Bell lol. read more

Additionally, eating at Taco Casa is like taking a walk down memory lane. This one lone Birmingham location is identical to the sister restaurants in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I first enjoyed Taco Casa as a college student, and thankfully the food hasn't changed a bit! I loved it then, and I love it now! I always order the beef enchiladas and a small bag of their tortilla chips. The enchiladas are smothered in cheese sauce, and come in several heat levels. We decided to share a taco burgers too. It's exactly what you would expect: taco meat, lettuce and diced tomato on a steamed burger bun. We spooned a bit of our cheese sauce from the burrito on top of the taco burger - Yum!! read more

This was by far the worst food I've ever had. I ordered a chicken burrito and it literally came in a plastic wrapping, probably because it was microwaved. Not to mention the one single bite i did take out if it, it shot out a bunch of watery oil. I will NEVER return to this place again, i don't understand the good reviews at all. I completely threw away $20 today when i could have gone to WalMart and bought a $2 microwaveable burrito and been 100% more satisfied. This place is my go-to for Mexican food. Why? Because it's what I grew up eating in Tuscaloosa. It may very well be a Tuscaloosa thing, but I love it here! At one point the quality wasn't as great as the ones in Tuscaloosa, but it has since improved and I can't even tell the difference. I'm obsessed. Many new folks don't get it, so perhaps it's an acquired taste. My husband wasn't too impressed the first time he ate there, but he's since converted. There's definitely a cult following for this place. When we lived in Tuscaloosa, we ate there at least twice a week. I'm just glad I don't have to drive to Tuscaloosa to enjoy the treat that is Taco Casa. Oh and the sweet tea is the best! read more

The food they serve in my opinion is better than Taco Bell. A decent portions for under ten dollar. My meal came with rice, pinto beans and chips but you'll have to pay for a small container of salsa which is under a dollar. Service here is fast and employees have a positive attitude. read more
