Strategically places at the head of Rainey street, these guys were built for the demand of a late night meal after an evening out. I had a friend in town who wanted to try as many different tacos as they possibly could while they were here and this ended up ranking as one of the best. Taco Baby set up in the parking lot of my apartment, which was awesome, especially during quarantine when it's such a chore to get good food. The tacos are delicious! I got chicken and beef fajita, which is nothing like your typical fajita meat. The meat was stewed in the perfect mix of spices and was just the right texture. Also, the black beans were fantastic and were well-seasoned. My complaint lies with the plain, steamed white rice and cheap, store bought chips. When mixed with the beans, the rice wasn't terrible, but I guess I misread the menu and expected to have your typical Mexican-style rice. And the chips... don't get me started. For the meat to be so perfect, I really wish the chips were at least better quality even if they are store bought. These are the thick, round yellow corn chips you find in Lunchables. Next time I will only purchase tacos because they were well worth the visit. The staff was friendly and the convenience was much appreciated, so overall I enjoyed my experience. read more

We went here for breakfast on the weekend as we were looking for a different breakfast taco location. I was extremely surprised at the length of the wait for this place. The tacos at this place had no flavor. We ordered 3 tacos. The veggie, bean and egg, and egg and meat. The only decent one was the veggie one and it was still sub par... the beans tasted like can beans and the egg was just fried and put in there, no added flavor at all. The service was not good, the food definitely was not good, and the wait was way to long for what you got. If you are looking for good tacos, there are way more in town than here. I had a pair of the chicken fajita tacos while attending the Family Business brewery (delicious beer, btw). Each of my chicken fajita tacos were $5 - the most expensive single taco I have ever purchased outside of a fancy restaurant. Based on the price, I was expecting a delicious taco, but I was horribly disappointed. I found more flavor in the bottle of water I was drinking alongside the tacos. The guys were really nice at the Austin Bouldering Project location and tried really hard, but it was an epic fail... 1. My friend is vegan. Chicken ended up in her veggie taco twice. First time she caught it, they remade it. Second time she didn't catch it in time. 2. Asked for bell pepper and onion mix on the side, ended up getting everything but the beans on the side (small thing but annoying). 3. I never thought I'd write a 1 star review, but yet, here we are. This is based off of Taco Baby's participation with Fooda at the IBM campus in the Domain. It actually saddens me writing it because carrying the food back to my office, it smelled pretty good! But actually tasting the food was a different story. I got a rice bowl with half carne guisada and chicken. Here are the problems that I had with this meal: 1) The rice was just plain white rice. No seasoning. Nothing. And it was under-cooked, so it had a rather unpleasant crunch. How do you mess up plain white rice? 2) The cilantro topping was whole cilantro - stems and all. This to me is almost unforgivable. At least put in the effort to chop up the cilantro so that I'm not having to fumble around trying to remove cilantro stems from my mouth. 3) The meat was not seasoned AT ALL. If we're going to be playing charades at TexMex, for the love of God PLEASE season your meats. 4) Salsas - even though they smelled good, again..no flavor. And with all that, there was the audacity to charge 9 dollars for a flop of a meal. I couldn't even finish the meal and had to throw it away. Again, I HATE writing bad reviews but this was just so over the top bad that there was no way around it. Despite all that, the employees that were serving the food were pleasant and amicable. However, they would do better working for another TexMex restaurant that puts more effort into their food. read more

The tacos are really good! The Mad Martigan is meaty madness (steak, bacon, pork, and a fried egg). I usually get it on the French Toast taco, which is a genius idea-- if it's their original idea, they should patent it! The other thing is I left my card there the other day (like a dumbass). I called them on a Monday to ask if they had it. The lady said they did but that she was closed on Mondays. I was already devising my plan to find some cardboard and a sharpie and beg for tacos so I could eat that day, but then she offered to drive up to the truck, get my card, and then meet me downtown. Taco baby was scheduled months in advance to serve tacos at our school Fall Carnival. They were friendly and accommodating...and we easily came to agreements about menu and pricing in a May meeting at our school. Then--in a strange turnaround-- a week before the October 18 event, no longer friendly, they insisted that they had never agreed to the previous menu and pricing. We gave in to their new pricing and menu demands to keep them happy and then they did NOT SHOW UP AT ALL to our event...emailing to say that the truck broke down after the event had already started. (at which time they should have already been set up for an hour) We will never attempt to work with them again and, with so many great food trucks in Austin, I would not recommend hiring them to serve food at any event. This was a TXTW participant and we got some fresh delicious tacos and even some free beer. This truck used to be on Congress, but now it's located on South Lamar by the spirits place. The ingredients were very fresh, the meat was seasoned well, and the lady working was really nice. Looks like this new food trailer parking lot may have music sometimes. I saw these guys pop up at this location recently along with a BBQ truck, and the West African cuisine truck. They also have a stand that sells gelato. I got the veggie taco, which I thought was exceptionally good. Most veggie tacos that I've tried before only have veggies and maybe some fresh lettuce or cilantro but Taco Baby's little veggie baby had veggies, cilantro aaaand black beans... super filling! Salsas are tasty, too- both mild and spicy options. As odd as it is, I would suggest wearing close toed shoes. They have little pieces of wood scattered throughout the food trailer area, which by the way has great food options, all paypal deal friendly. I was walking in sandals and got a huge splinter. In case it happens to you, Taco Baby's owner is super nice and provided a cleansing alcohol towelette. They were out of rice bowls when I went but I would probably get that next time for something a little more substantial. It's Friday night so I decide to engage in the age-old, American tradition of...food trailer sampling! Walking down the SoCo trailer food park, a nondescript metallic truck catches my eye. Eschewing the traditional funky designs of most food trucks, I think this is either a manifest of Taco Baby's minimalist approach to tacos or they are brand new and don't have a livery yet. Turns out, as the owner Jamie tells me, it's brand new. We're off to a rocky start, though plausible for a brand new truck still feeling its way around the marketplace: they have ran out of fajita chicken and flour tortillas. I weigh my options of eating either carnitas, carne guisada or mahi-mahi tacos on corn and decide that they'll probably taste great. While I get to know the owner, she has a brilliant idea: add bacon to one of my carnitas tacos. The crunchy bacon adds a new dimension of flavor to the moist and soft carnitas and I tell her she should put it on the menu. While we make more small talk, she offers me a sample of an item she's been pondering adding to the menu: carnitas with KC BBQ sauce and spicy coleslaw. Yeah, Jamie, put that on the menu right now. They also make quesadillas but I was too full to try them. Long story short: don't let the simple options of the menu stop you short of trying Taco Baby. Dropped by because the line going to Mohawks for the Tumblr Planned Parenthood SXSW event extended down the block and we waited for about 2 hours during dinner time. My taco was extremely mediocre. The cheese on the taco didn't event melt--the entire taco was room temperature as if I'd left it sitting out for 30 minutes. The salsa verde didn't have enough flavor for my liking, and I put A LOT of it on that taco. We threw a pool party for our residents and invited Taco Baby to come handle the food for us. We had 5 tacos to choose from: chicken fajita, vegetable, pork carnitas, mahi mahi, and white trash taco- I had one of each, you know just to be safe, and they were all off the cherts!! I actually had to get a second white trash taco. And then a third. If you ever host a special event, I definitely recommend having Taco Baby pull up curb side and let your guests go to town on their delicious tacos. So I really liked my white trash taco. They stopped outside of my office building and it was the first time I tried them. I thought their speed and customer service could have been better. The no substitutions was meh....and the canned coke I got was a bit old and flat. However the food was decent. The other item that stood out was the cleanliness of the truck and those serving. The truck was dirty, dark and the team servicing had grease stains on clothes and I found a hair in my food. Now I am not a prude and have eaten in foreign countries.
