Meat and cheese charcuterie
Natalka K.

Just came back from dinner and meeting a friend and being my first time - it was a good experience. It's a small place - seating at the bar and 3 small tables on either side of the door. Rustic with wood panels on the walls. It was kinda of dark, so we needed the little tea lights to see lol. We started with the cheese and charcuterie plate and then split the schnitzel- which wasn't as big as we thought. Sam, our waiter was great and even when asked to turn down the AC as it was a bit too chilly in the restaurant, came through.

I came to Table, Donkey and Stick with some friends back during Restaurant Week to try it out. My overall experience was just OK, although maybe I just didn't order the right stuff. When I walked in, the environment was lively even though the space itself was quite tight. It did feel very cozy, like being in a Swiss cabin. To start, our table got some meat and cheese with baguette. The baguette was delightfully crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, a perfect accompaniment for the charcuterie! We also added some other dishes to try, such as the potato latkes and the scallop carpaccio. The latkes are good, but start getting old pretty fast. The scallops were fresh and I enjoyed them. Next, I got some beef on skewers, which were a bit overcooked for me. I also didn't like the pickled veggies on top. Finally, for the main course I got the duck confit which was WAY too salty. The duck confit itself was salty, the cured pork belly that came with the dish was salty, and the wild rice was salty. I honestly struggled to take more than a few bites of it. For the price point of this restaurant, I expected better quality control over salt levels. Most of the dishes were actually pretty decent, but the main course was a disaster for me. I might come back one day for the charcuterie since that was great and perhaps what they're more known for, but for now I'm still trying to erase the memory of that salt from my head. I really enjoyed the alpine cabin vibe. It was cute and rustic and very cozy. The staff were also very friendly and very helpful. We started with one cheese and one charcuterie, which ended up being my least favorite part of the meal, which is rather surprising for me. The duck liver mousse and soft cheese were both fine, but neither stood out compared to the rest of the meal. We followed that with three small plates, all of which were super tasty. My favorite was definitely beef cheek croquettes. I really enjoyed the mushrooms and the spices and how they tasted with the beef cheek. The roasted squash was my next favorite. I really like balance of squash and sausage and how the fennel taste permeated the whole dish. I did get one or two bites of banana pepper that I didn't love, but overall the dish was really tasty. We also got the apple and sweet onion pork belly which also was pretty good and I really liked the apple and pork combo. I've had pork belly where the texture was a little better with a crispier outside and softer inside, but it was still very good. The large plates were actually my favorite part of the meal. My absolute favorite was the pappardelle. It was so creamy and the noodles were so soft. The meat was soft and tender and fit right in. The chicken was also super good. The jus was excellent with the wild rice and the mushrooms were a really nice touch.

LOVEDDDDD this spot. Like a little hidden gem! Went here with my best friend and we shared everything. Service was phenomenal and food was delicious! Great for a girls night or a date night! Small restaurant so a very cozy feel! I really like that they have seasonal dishes as well.

I get The Trib every day for the last four years (I've lived in Chicago), the same with Chicago Magazine, Chicago Infatuation, Chicago Eater and ten more news feeds concerning food, restaurants and provisions. So how the hell did Table, Donkey and Stick slip under my radar for such a long time? How could a restaurant this good, not be upfront and personal in a city touting its restaurant scene? Leave it to my son and his fiance to lure me and my wife to a restaurant like Table, Donkey and Stick with cuisine this sophisticated; wow is all I can say. There is nothing fancy or complicated going on here and that's fine by me. For me it's always about my experience in a restaurant and T.D.S. passed my criterion by a mile! The menu here is not definable as it has cuisines from everywhere, but I'm feeling "Austrian" here: * The Trout Rillettes had shallots, dill and lemon that were sensational * The Coppa was dried cured-pork, fennel and garlic - crazy good * The Rabbit & Bacon Terrine had black truffles, garlic and pastis that just knocked me out * Duck Fat Potato Galette with yukon gold, sweet potato, cauliflower, thyme and parmesan shortbread - phenomenal * Lamb Meatballs - made the completely right way * Apple / Turnip Salad - Fantastic * Pork Schnitzel - was the "Kicker" that made me feel like I was in Vienna * Pappardelle - with rabbit ragu - beyond good * Desserts we had Sticky Pudding and a Cranberry Tart that was an unparalleled finish to a championship dinner! Their bar kept the level of this restaurant so elevated that I can't put anymore distinction than I have (oh wait - yes I can) except for the service that was equally wonderful. A "shocker" this grand happens very seldomly; but when it does happen, it takes a chisel to knock the smile off of my face!

I visited for an early birthday dinner and this was fantastic. Service was great and ambiance was gorgeous especially out on the patio. The whole place feels like an old house converted into a restaurant! We ordered the pork schnitzel, duck liver mousse, cabra al gofio goat's milk cheese, fava bean dip, and the fried polenta. Out of these, the duck liver mousse was my absolute favorite even though they're known for their burger and schnitzel. The fava bean dip was a close second - we also ordered some of the specialty wine from that day. Really nice start to my birthday!

Our dinner was a great experience. First of all this restaurant located in regular house made to be restaurant which adds to the cozy feeling. The service is great and they have few communal tables as addition to regular two person ones. They also have a corkage fee of $20 per table which is a good option if you want to bring your own bottle of wine. We tried the following dishes: POTATO LATKES--crispy potato cakes. I wish that horseradish aioli would be more significant in flavor. SLAGEL STEAK-very good quality steak on carrot puree was a nice dish. WITE ANCHOVY TOAST--it was our favorite from the small plates we tried. Good balance of flavors. BEEF CHEEK CROQUETTES--crispy, flavorful croquettes with delicious shredded beef cheek meat. PAPARDELLE-this pasta was amazing. Rabbit Ragu is something we will definitely come back for. Addition of pistachios gave it a nice crunch. PORK SCHNITZEL--perfectly fried, this is how the schnitzel supposed to be made. I was lacking saltiness like the meat was not treated properly with salt but we asked for it so overly it turned out good. Capers are also adding a bit of saltiness to it. Thank you for a nice time spent and very good food served :)

Ok I meant to write this review back in February. This was a Valentine's Day dinner and it was way too expensive for the experience. Favorites? Beet brined deviled egg. That's about it. It was so overpriced for the value and quality of the food. I appreciate the efforts but the whole meal was flat. When we first got there for our reservation, the restaurant was empty. It started to fill up as the evening progressed but overall, we were not impressed by the dishes. My boyfriend got the glazed duck and I got the lobster bouillabaisse - I preferred his over mine. The outside of the restaurant is muted and I was sure if it was open when we first got to the door. I knew the reviews were mixed for this place and I think that was my experience as well.

Go to TD&S when you want evergreen quality. Through the years they have remained steadfast on their top tier quality, inventiveness, ambiance, all while staying cool, current, and down to earth. Quintessential Logan Square vibes - run by people you'd love to hang out with at an art show or house party. We truly did not leave one bite on any plate uneaten and I felt not a drop of shame. Finished off our cheese plate, beef cheek croquettes, latkes, risotto, and pork belly with a delicious freshly brewed cup of chocolatey/nutty drip coffee. I can't wait til the patio is open!!! See you again, soon.

The food and beverages are amazing. Very small restaurant and a great rustic feel. We got the beats and strawberries to start. Then we shared the pea risotto and the trout main. Everything was perfect. And ended with the amazing toffee sticky pudding

Such a cute intimate spot up north and definitely a hidden gem! This restaurant is perfect for a cute fall dinner with the decorations and menu items. We got the pea dip and beef croquettes to start and I loooveddd the pea dip, amazing!! For entrees we got the pappardelle and trout and both were very good as well. Overall the portions were pretty big and we ended up bringing some food home as leftovers. Highly recommend!

Because of that, I decided to stop by again on a recent Sunday evening around 7pm. The second visit was completely different. We got there early, knowing it would probably get busier later. Even so, tables near the bar stayed open the entire time we were there. Instead of seating us up front, they put us in the back area by ourselves, where there was no dedicated server. We basically had to wait until the bartender happened to look over and notice us before we could order. He was friendly when he came by, but having to rely on random glances from the bar is not how service should work. The drinks themselves were on the sweet side but acceptable. The bigger issue was the seating and the lack of attention. We were left alone in the back while open seats closer to the bar remained empty the whole night. I don't want to assume the hostess or manager treated us differently because we're Asian, but the decision felt strange and left us without real service. That person should be retrained or let go. Given how good the first visit was, this one was disappointing enough that I won't be coming back or recommending the place.

The decor, signage, use of color, and absence of screens or TV's all contribute to the theme. The music is also appropriate and plays at the perfect volume to be pleasant without forcing one to raise their voice. I tried the Green Daisy and a House Old Fashioned. The Green Daisy was boozy and had some herbaceous notes. A little tartness and a little sweetness helped balance the drink out and make for a phenomenal sipper. I loved the creativity with this one! The House Old Fashioned was also well done, assembled with quality ingredients in balance with one another. Nothing wrong with a well-executed classic. The prices are more or less reasonable considering the location and overall market, with bevies costing around $16. The bar staff is excellent! Very friendly and welcoming! Final verdict: A spot where I can say come for the drinks and stay for the vibe. It's the kind of place where walking in you are transported a century into the past. It has very comfy seats even at the bar. Their happy is great and is available everyday except Mondays when they're closed. Their lychee martini is really good and comes with cotton candy on the glass, which I really love. My partner rated this 8.5/10. Their espresso martini is pretty good but the Carajillo martini takes the cake. That's my go-to drink now when I visit. I also tried the Sakerita flight, which is a margarita made with sake. The Sakerita flavors were strawberry (8/10 made with real strawberry puree) I think it could've been less sweet, cucumber (7/10 the cucumber puree is strong with this one), and passion fruit (4/10). I usually like passion fruit but this one was really bitter and sour. The chicken Karaage was perfectly crispy and juicy but I didn't not like the dips that came along with it. But I'm not a sauce person usually so take that part with a grain of salt. The Quesobirria rolls were perfectly seasoned and juicy. The consomé dip was sooo good and flavorful. I don't usually like birria but this is immaculate and I definitely recommend getting this. The outside was also very crispy but not too crispy. The tuna pone tacos were immaculate. No complaints. I love this spot and I'm ready to become a regular here.

With mixology being all the rage for the last 20+ years, I almost feel like it's hard to come up with a new drink concept these days. Truce shows that creativity in the world of booze is alive and well, and I count myself lucky to have had a taste. The 'Peas + Carrots' was a surprise win. Scotch, blanco tequila, sochu, carrot, snap pea, ginger, and kukicha. Sounds bizarre as hell, but it absolutely works. I also had a 'Final Say,' a spin on a classic featuring gin, clementine, fino, galliano, turmeric, black pepper, and lemon. The 'I Can't Believe It's Beer' has everything from mezcal and rooibos tea to guava and an aperitivo. I could ramble on about their menu, but I'd say just check Truce out yourself.
