Stopped by Table 59 on a whim after dropping off my brother at UC Merced and was pleasantly surprised. Beautifully decorated interior, great customer service, good food and great prices. We ordered a Cobb salad, the UC Merced burger, the shrimp scampi, and the chicken Alfredo pasta for our family of four. Everything was delightful and the portions were generous. Came in with my wife and her parents for her birthday dinner. Clean place with a great ambience and Adrian was very polite and accomodating when he sat us and took our orders. I told him it was her birthday and to do his best embarrassing her. I was half joking, not expecting him or T59 to go out of their way to celebrate with us, but him and another member of staff came out after the meals with a piece of cheesecake on a dish with "happy birthday" written on the dish beautifully in chocolate syrup. The waiting time was too long, had to remind server of an additional plate I ordered. One of the plates I ordered, came cold and when I asked if it was possible to just microwave it (I didn't mind if they couldn't, would've eaten it cold) the waiter then proceeded to tell me they had trashed the whole meal and where making me another. By the time the plate was finished being remade the rest of the table had finished eating, to which I asked it to be packaged to go. Took my family out for valentines was very disappointed at the least. Let me start out with the positives we were greeted right away awesome taken to our seats right away and then got our drink order came out great so far. Bread came out nice and warm and the butter was soft very nice ! But that is it when the food started to come out, they brought out two of the five dishes first, and the other three dishes took roughly 10 mins for the other 3 . Spaghetti, noodles were mushy. My steak was charred and cooked to a medium well temperature not the medium I requested they forgot the butter for the lobster. The meatball calzone wasn't up to par. Such a great place here in Merced. My girls and I came in for brunch & was greeted by the owner & waitress. I tried their shrimp scampi and it was delicious, however I have to be totally honest and say that their Linguini Vera Cruz (not pictured) was the best!!! I highly recommend you all try this place with your girls & order mimosa's. If not, go with your spouse or significant other during dinner time. Went to try out Table 59 last night and definitely will not go again. The staff were very friendly but the food was definitely tasteless and overpriced. I got the shrimp trio and the only good thing was the fried shrimp. The shrimp scampi was tasteless and cold. My friend got the bbq chicken pizza, half of the pizza was burnt on top. My other friend got the linguini Vera Cruz pasta and it was flavorless as well as the margarita pizza. read more

Decided to try this place out with the family. I ordered a medium well steak and another ordered a medium rare, both came out well done. We told them and they kindly took our steaks away and redid them. They did offered a dessert for their mistake. Both steaks came out perfect and we continue to enjoy the rest of the meal. read more

My family, including adult children and several grandchildren, ate dinner last night at Table 59. Very sweet server accommodated us beautifully. My only negative comment is my dinner order. I ordered Chicken Marsala. This is the second time I've ordered it and been very disappointed. The sauce IS NOT Marsala, almost looks like they just used Alfredo instead. The mushrooms were not sautéed but just cooked in the white sauce with some chopped onions. So disappointing when everything else is pretty good. Also, my husband substituted Italian sausage for the meatballs on his spaghetti and was served cooked ground sausage. Not exactly Italian sausage. The customer service is unmatched! My boyfriend and I had a hard time looking for a restaurant and we are glad we found this gem. Our server lily was attentive and knowledgeable. The fried calamari was amazing with the tarter and cocktail sauce. I tried the linguini Vera Cruz and the sauce had a spicy mild kick honestly delicious. I have never been so disappointed in a meal in my life. We came here to celebrate a graduation from UC Merced and was expecting the pasta and steak that came from the photos on Yelp. We came on mothers day 5/14, and they had a special "brunch buffet" for mothers day. Okay, we didn't expect this but how bad can it be? Tell me why the buffet food looked like it came from a freezer section in costco. Everything was bland, and even the fruit was not sweet. They had eggs benedict with no hollandaise sauce. Whats the point of that??? They had scrambled eggs that couldn't be any tasteless and unseasoned. Some chicken florentine that was so rich and so unseasoned. They had a meat carving station and an omelet station and the prime rib was just so fatty and under seasoned. The omelet seemed overcooked. The buffet was something is something i'd imagine they give to prisoners. I honestly think they give better food in prison. i wish I took photos to show how bad it was. It seemed everyone had the same idea in terms of enjoyment. I would have taken anything else other than this place. I wonder if the staff or kitchen try their food to see how bad it is. Going forward, i hope they stick to the menu that is shown in the other photos, NOT THE NAASTY ASS BUFFETT! I forgot to mention, they had desserts that are not home made. They are definitely bought from a grocery store and brought in. I don't know what was going on today, but I hope they never pull this again. ALSO, it was $35 per person. For a mediocre buffet. We just had dinner at Table 59. The ambience is 100 times better than the new, cramped restaurants in Merced. It was quiet, intimate, beautiful, and cozy. My calzone was delicious and huge. I took half of it home and I was still stuffed. My husband had salmon that he enjoyed and said he would order again. I went previously for lunch and had a delicious Steak sandwich. They also brought me a complimentary cheesecake for my birthday. The Servers were very friendly and very attentive. Definitely try it out!! We need to keep the restaurants afloat in Merced, especially those that aren't the big chains. BTW, I never, ever leave reviews! read more

I come here often for lunch and find the team to be friendly, the food to be quick and tasty and the building to be welcoming. The calzones are huge so be ready to take 1/2 home with you or share with two people. My favorite thing so far is the penne pasta with chicken and mushrooms. read more

I tipped because I felt bad but looking back I wish I wouldn't have for the price I payed. I placed an order for catering for my daughters graduation. Ridiculously expensive. Not to mention I picked up the order. Well, except they forgot to pack the kids pizza that I payed for so Adrian had to deliver it to my house. First impression upon arrival the restaurant was dead. Not a friendly face until I mentioned I was there to pick up my catering order.. I was not treated bad. Just not friendly until the chef/father came out with my order and I began to speak to him in Spanish. Then Adrian's demeanor changed a bit. I obviously payed the overpriced amount because I thought it would be well worth it. The food was mediocre at best which is why I now say for the price that I payed, was just not worth it. The tray of Chicken fettuccine Alfredo pasta was okay. More pasta than anything. None of it tasted homemade, in the case you are expecting freshly homemade. (My sister is an Alfredo sauce connoisseur) A tray of fish n chips with the same batter used for corn dogs. Dry fish. Artichoke dip that had a sweetness to it. Eww. Frozen buffalo wings that lacked flavor. Kids pizza was just gross. Sauce tasted like canned tomatoes and cheese was extra greasy and not in the yummy greasy way. Just a huge fail. The garlic bread was pretty good. That's hard to ruin. Perhaps their other dishes are good but it was not our groups experience. I will say that they "gave" (or so they said) us a tray of green salad which looked nice and fresh but required no cooking so there's that. They gave us a large portion of ranch for our 12 wings and a nice portion of store bought italian dressing for our salad. Also, we ordered a side of shrimp for about 4 people who wanted to add it to their pasta...that was, you know small and rubbery which I do understand shrimp overcooks very easily. With that they gave us a large enough portion of cocktail sauce. Not sure why but okay. But again, in our opinion, at that price it was NOT WORTH IT. I would've been willing to pay this amount for a more Italian homemade experience. While this isn't about race because I met Adrian and his father who was very kind and they said was the chef, I do believe that we are the same race. They are not Italian so why would I have expected authentic Italian. Our experience with the food was mediocre. I learned my lesson not to order from a place I've never tried just because they have decent reviews. In my defense I moved out here from a large city and restaurant options near me now are very limited. Needless to say after the not so good experience we had with the food and the unprofessionalism we experienced with Adrian calling my personal cell, we would not only never return but we would never recommend! Would not recommend coming here. Food is overpriced and MID. My boyfriend and I ordered steamed clams, shrimp scampi, meat ball calzone, and tiramisu. The steamed clams and shrimp scampi had an overpowering taste of Jarlic (not even real garlic??) and was extremely salty. For the price, the best part of the meal was the free French bread. The tiramisu tasted like store bought as well. Save your money and go to Olive Garden. read more

This is the kind of place that works best atmospherically if it is absolutely FULL of dining customers. With its cavernous high ceilings and huge mural on the wall overhead, you feel engulphed when you walk into a nearly empty room. In fact, we half-expected to hear our voices echo off the walls when we spoke. Now, for the food... If dining were all about visuals, we'd have to give it a 5; but, unfortunately, when it comes to nourishment, man does not live by visuals alone. Our baked meat lovers calzone was beautifully presented, the dough around the edge neatly braided in a way that I've never seen before on a calzone. Impressive. The lazagna was served in the same piping hot boat dish that it was oven baked in with plenty of melting cheese oozing over the sides with a nicely baked crust on it. Seriously, we wanted to love this food. How could anything so lovingly and artfully presented be so bland and uninspired tasting? We ate less than a third of our meal and asked for boxes to take home. We were too bored to keep eating! Were there any authentic Italian herbs and seasonings used in the cooking? The marinara sauce looked orangey like something Chef Boyardee cooked up in the basement on an off-night after he ran out of essentials like oregano, thyme, garlic, parsley, olive oil, and other classic Italian seasonings. If they were in there, you can't prove it by me and I grew up with Italian cooks. There was a large party of Asian men dining across from us. I love all Asian food because of the artful use of spices and herbs. As an Italian American, I felt embarrassed by what they must have thought of such tasteless "Italian food". I wanted to apologize to them and ask them to please not judge Italian cuisine by this one-off sampling. On the plus side, the steamed clams were tender and the broth, if a bit salty, was tasty and the toasted crostini served with it absorbed the broth very well and went down nice and easy. No complaints there. The salad was served with the "Italian" dressing on the side. I don't know what made this dressing Italian, but it did have a nice, pleasant flavor and the mixed lettuces were fresh and crisp. In conclusion, Table 59 has its heart in the right place and the waitstaff is very attentive, friendly, and caring. But, the people in the kitchen need to Boldly GO! and not be afraid to delve into the many delightful condiments, herbs, spices, and techniques that define all good Italian cooking. Trust that the people of Merced will not be scared off by the scent of garlic or the taste of olive oil. Show them what it means to eat Italian, even if the management and staff are not. Table 59 has barely begun its journey and it will need to up its game PDQ if it hopes to make it to the finish line. We want to love this food. Can we? We'll wait a while and try again. I love the ambiance and elegant interior of the restaurant. I chose to celebrate my daughter's Sweet 16 party in one of the private party rooms. The table set up was impeccable with beautiful lighting, music, and a customized menu print out. They allowed for me to bring in additional birthday props like a balloon arch and flowers. My guests were served a delicious garden salad, warm bread with butter, followed by their main course of steak and shrimp, steak and chicken, or chicken fettuccine. Our food was delectable! The steaks were well seasoned and cooked to perfection and the chicken was nice and juicy. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy a slide show and do the father daughter dance. The team was very attentive serving my guests drinks and making sure the glasses for our toast and the cake was served to all guests as the night progressed. My family and guests we raving how Table59 is a hidden gem in Merced! I couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for an amazing night and excellent service for my guests. My wife and I went here for our wedding anniversary thinking it was a very nice and elegant place to eat for our celebration. The place looked nice and clean and the waiters were great. And this is why I give 2 stars. The food on the other hand, I was highly disappointed and unsatisfied. We ordered the appetizer spinach dip which was not very pleasing and the baguette tasted stale. I got the chicken fettuccine and I had to send it back I couldn't even eat it, and I usually never do this as it's very embarrassing but for the price I had to send it back as I wasn't going to eat it.
