We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday with his bestfriend and his wife and got here at a good time. They were empty. We were seated right away and ordered our drinks. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, which came with soup or salad. I got the salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. My boyfriend got the meat lovers calzone. My Alfredo was so rich that just a little bit made me feel so full. I barely touched my food because I felt like I was going to explode already. Maybe it could have been better if they hadn't put that much sauce in it. The pasta noodles and chicken were swimming in Alfredo sauce. My boyfriend's food was decent, according to him. After our meal, my boyfriend and his bestfriend ordered tiramisu, which tasted like they were store bought and served there for a much higher price. Well I wanted to like this place but unfortunately it's another below mediocre restaurant spot in Merced. The previous spot of Dicicco's wasn't terrible but not sure what this restaurant is trying to accomplish? If Diciccos didn't survive why create the exact same type of restaurant? The spinach artichoke dip was a disaster of nacho cheese, chopped up pepperoni and barely any artichoke or spinach. Served with small crostini already soaked with butter. Probably one of the worst appetizers I've ever had and $11?? The bbq chicken pizza seemed to be frozen pizza crust and possibly frozen toppings. The chicken Marsala was very basic with your standard packaged Marsala cream sauce and steamed broccoli side. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of fettuccini Alfredo... super salty. Italian food has so much potential with fresh flavors and fresh traditional Italian ingredients but sadly you won't find any of those here. I really wish restaurants in Merced would work on the lighting. Every single restaurant has harsh bright lighting like you're dining in a hospital cafeteria. One of the plates I ordered, came cold and when I asked if it was possible to just microwave it (I didn't mind if they couldn't, would've eaten it cold) the waiter then proceeded to tell me they had trashed the whole meal and where making me another. Can't say enough about Table 59. I always choose the ribeye steak when it's on the menu or the New York steak. They cook it to perfection at med rare. A baked potato and veggies complete the plate. Stopped by Table 59 on a whim after dropping off my brother at UC Merced and was pleasantly surprised. Beautifully decorated interior, great customer service, good food and great prices. We ordered a Cobb salad, the UC Merced burger, the shrimp scampi, and the chicken Alfredo pasta for our family of four. Everything was delightful and the portions were generous.
