We mentioned it to Nick, and he very generously took them off the bill, which was completely unexpected and very much appreciated. The shaking beef was my dish, and I thought it was pretty good, although again, it was on the salty side. My husband had the coconut chicken curry, which was very spicy but packed with flavor. The beef stir-fry was probably the biggest disappointment. There were noticeably more vegetables than beef, which my FIL wasn't too happy about, and the noodles weren't very good. He also found the sauce to be overly sweet. Overall, the ambience and service were excellent, but the food was inconsistent and generally too salty for our taste. Nick's hospitality definitely helped make the experience a positive one. At 3.5 stars, I probably won't be returning anytime soon for a meal, but I could see myself stopping by the bar for a cocktail.

We told the hostess when we were ready to be seated at our table. Suddenly, the volume went up on the music and the crowd started arriving. Definitely a party atmosphere! We decided on a glass of wine and a bunch of appetizer dishes to share. The Caesar salad was very creatively presented, but for flavor, I would give it 6 out of 10 stars. The garlic bread, however, was a 9 and a definite recommendation! We also ordered the grilled octopus, which looked a lot different than the pictures we saw on their website, but had good flavor and was cooked well. A solid 7. The Nori Cones were a big surprise. We loved them and wished there were more than 3 to an order. A true 10! Lastly, we decided to go with the tableside tiramisu as a shared anniversary dessert, and it was just plain delicious! The pesto gnocchi arrived looking the part: beautifully plated, artfully drizzled, completely devoid of flavor. I'm not sure what basil did to the kitchen to deserve such a muted representation, but the dish tasted like it had been described pesto rather than made with it. The texture was fine. The experience was not. The server assigned to our table seemed to regard us as an inconvenience he was graciously tolerating. Every interaction carried the faint suggestion that we weren't quite sophisticated enough to be there -- questions were answered with barely concealed impatience, and recommendations were delivered as corrections rather than suggestions. Good service at a restaurant like this should feel elevated, not alienating. The atmosphere is undeniably gorgeous, and the crowd was well-dressed and suitably impressed with themselves. If you enjoy paying a premium to feel slightly inferior while eating forgettable food, this is your place. For the rest of us, there are Italian restaurants that remember hospitality is also part of the menu.

Happy hour runs daily in the bar from 5:00 to 6:30, except on Sundays when they are closed. Best bet is to get there early because the bar seats are limited and most of the diners seemed to be eating, drinking and enjoying themselves for the entire happy hour period. In addition to the traditional seats along the bar, the bar area has one long table for "communal" seating. We were initially reluctant to sit in the middle of this table, but it was perfect as we were able to learn about and see the great food selections from the "regular" happy hour visitors. (They were thoroughly enjoying the ahi tuna entree.) First things first though. The large margarita menu was tempting but we opted for wine from the even larger wine list. La Cigale allows customers to split the 2-for-1 offer rather than require one person to have two drinks. Nice! All cocktails are included in the offer, and one person in our group enjoyed a Ketel One vodka. La Cigale describes itself as a Mediterranean restaurant with selections from France, Morocco, Greece, and Italy. Their wide-ranging happy hour menu includes several pastas, seafood, chicken and meat entrees. Although this is an upscale restaurant, the happy hour options allow first-time visitors to try the various preparations on a smaller scale at a reasonable price. At the recommendation of our communal table neighbors, we split a crock of French onion soup. It was a $6 add-on to the happy hour menu. It was thick, full of onions, covered in delicious cheese, and epitomized how French onion soup should look and taste. In summary: the Best French Onion Soup EVER! One person in our group had the chicken marsala with mashed potatoes. Another had a large Caesar salad with chicken. And two of us had the chicken parmesan with a side of linguini pasta. The chicken was amazingly moist and tender. And the sauce was delicious. At the risk of being redundant: the Best Chicken Parmesan EVER! Unfortunately we were too full to enjoy anything from La Cigale's large list of tempting desserts. Maybe next time. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The Blistered Shishito Peppers had a welcoming mid-heat bite to them. Waited a bit for the main dish of Korean Short Rib Hash to arrive, but it was worth the wait. Huge portion with vibrant veggies and crunchy hash. Not sure the identity of the green sauce but I drizzled extra. Grabbed a Thai Donut off my buddy's plate which was outstanding - not low calorie though. Full belly with an inspiring atmoshpere shared with a bunch of friends. Finishing up the brunch and took a peek into the main dining room where it was shockingly still a ghost town. Even though we were a large group, they accommodated us by providing separate bills, then my eyes widened followed by a confused smirk. The nerve of an empty business to charge a 4% fee (thought at first it was a credit card usage fee but was wrong, who gets this added money and why?) to use a private back room when our twenty guests were the only ones paying the rent and tips today - cmon dont be greedy. The bathrooms were a touch of originality boasting several gender neutral stalls with round acrylic communal wash basins. Geisha printed wall paper keeps that Asian theme going strong throughout. May come back to Kapow in the future...but that outlandish 4% fee still haunts me and hard to digest. Just this alone should have dropped the rating a half star but the ambiance, flavorful food highlighted by an awesome presentation in addition to the assertive friendly staff superceded that one egregious flaw.

The pita was as fresh as fresh could be, the toom was creamy and garlicky. The hummus... oh that hummus! It was so creamy - possibly one of the smoothest hummus I have ever had. His willingness to please his customers really stood out and made for an even better dining experience. They start you off with warm homemade pita served with a delicious garlic dip. Most entrees come with 2 sides and we had the lentil soup and also shared a large Fattoush salad. The dressing was incredibly flavorful and complemented the fresh ingredients perfectly. For our entrées, we ordered a Shrimp kabob and the Chicken kabob, both with rice and a few other garnishes. The clear winner was the lemon oregano sauce on the chicken as it's packed with bright, savory flavor and takes the kabob to another level. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and generously portioned. I look forward to trying other menu items in the future. Overall, it's an OK experience with great staff, but I find it more geared to selling cocktails and over-priced pitchers of margaritas.
